[Q] HELP Samsung Galaxy S2 keeps restarting - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im a noob, so basically I rooted my phone and went into CWM recovery to flash a new ROM but stupid me didnt back up my stock ROM, and also I totally fogot to download a Custom ROM onto my sd card, so I went into CWM and cleared cache, clear data/factory reset, and rebooted but then it kept turning on and kept on doing that, the samsung logo comes on then keeps repeating.
After I went in cwm again and clear davnik cache, wipe cache, wipe data/factory reset a load of time randomly but it still didnt work PLEASEE HELP IM A STUPID NOOB AND I only got this new!!!

you didnt flash anything so it should still be fine, just without your data, you can get into recovery or download mode why not flash a new rom in odin?,your phone is still fine.look for a stock rom to revert

Your phone will take 5 to 10 minutes to boot after clearing cache, so if you are sure your mobile doesn't boot after 10 minutes then you have two alternatives .
1. Boot into cwm, connect your mobile to PC, mount your sdcard via cwm, copy the custom rom and flash it.
2. Download a stock from and flash it via odin
#*posted on the move *#

Flash again
1. Download a new stock rom from samfirmware.com
2. Save it to your pc
3. Get odin 1.85
4. Put your phone in download mode make sure battery is at least 50%, by holding down volume down, power and home key
5. Once in download mode press volume up to continue
6. Now on your pc you installed open odin 1.85 open the program
7. Connect the usb cable to phone first then to your pc.
8. Wait for the first box in odin to come yellow
9. Once it does click on 'pda' and find the stock firmware you downloaded do remember do not extract it nothing.
10. Once you have selected the file it will appear in the PDA section sometimes depending on the stock rom there might be 3 files so you may need to put the other files in the section above and below PDA so make sure you read this before anything.
11. Once done click start
Once the box turns green it will say passed and your phone will reboot and you will have successfully installed the original firmware back again.
Anything you dont understand reply back.

[Q] sgs2 stuck at boot screen

first of all plz don't hate for making a new thread i really searched some time and i dind't find anything that helped me.
my sgs2 is stuck at the boot screen (splash screen with the S and "samsung galaxy sII" underneath).
i can access recovery and download mode. so i did a data/cache wipe and factory reset and than i flashed an original firmware with odin. flahs worked fine but my phone is still not booting. i also flashed an insecure kernel and tried - not working so i reflashed the original kernel - still not working. btw i flashed this one "GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1".
so can anyone help me plz?!
Lol. Funny.

as i said in my first post if you would have read it i already did this and it is not working!
have you tried updating thru KIES?
which region is your handset from?
and you have already tried using the USB Jig too...right? after reading the POST one
If you belong to XEU, Kies would update the phone to KF3.
After updating the firmware normally the phone gets stuck in the boot screen for 10-15 secs first time around. i hope you are leaving it there for a minute or so.
i tried kies but it didnt recognize the phone.
i also flashed kf3 now but it is still not working. left it on splash screen for about 10 mins or so...
Well for starters a question about failed boot would be better answered in a failed boot thread and you dont mention you have read that post in your OP .
Clean flash
Via CWM recovery mounts and storage format SD card System Data Cache and this will wipe all data .
Factory reset .
Phone will now not boot .
Enter download mode .
Open Odin
Download a stock rom and following instructions connect USB cable and flash .
That fails its a service centre job .
jje
ok jjegan can you plz explain that again so a noob can do it too?
Clean flash
Boot into recovery go to mounts and storage format SD card System Data Cache and this will wipe all data .
Factory reset .
Phone will now not boot no OS .
Enter download mode .
Open Odin
Download a stock rom and following instructions connect USB cable and flash .The same method you used .
jje
That fails its a service centre job .
Firstly, you did mention that you tried a factory reset, so the third post from JJE has no merit, so instead of assuming we know everything and rushing to answer, we need to determine the conditions under which your phone is no longer booting.
Was the phone working normally?
If it was, what rom was the phone running in the first place, and what did you do (if anything) before it got stuck at the boot logo?
The last post by JJE is "assuming" you have the CWM recovery, I am going to ask you, which recovery do u have, is it the stock recovery or the CWM recovery. if it's the ClockworkMod you would know.
Did you try a normal reboot or did you try flashing something on the phone before you got the bootloop?
yes the phone was working normally. i didn't do anything before it got stuck at boot. The stock rom with t-mobile austria branding was running on it. i can't say the exact version. The phone began to lag during games and browsing so i turned it off and wanted to turn it on again as it got stuck at boot logo.
no i do not have cwm installed so the factory reset and data/cache wipe was done from stock recovery.
after several on/off switches i tried flashing an unbranded stock rom available in this forum. first ke7 then kf3 but the phone still wont boot. also kies is not recognizing the phone.
thanks in advance.
What you want to do is get in into download mode open odin and
download and extract this
http://androidadvices.com/downloads/GalaxyS2_GTI9100_XXKG3_2.3.4.zip
tick repartition
click on PIT and select u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit,
click on PDA and select CODE_I9100XXKG3_CL401405_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5,
click on Phone and select MODEM_I9100XXKG3_REV_02_CL1040774.tar.md5,
click on CSC and select GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG3.tar.md5,
flash it
after all done perfectly reboot to recovery and wipe partition cache
reboot once again and you are done
if this helped reply me
unfortuantly it didnt work out. i did everything as you described but it still got stuck at the boot screen.
i really dont know what to do any more...
Downloaded but asking for password to unzip?
One of the major do not touch is both repartition and pit file especially for a novice .
You have taken the steps in the Boot loop thread post recovery wipe user data . Download mode followed by flash a stock rom that fails flash Villain rom .
Personally i would take the phone to a service centre and claim it stopped working during a Kies update .

Cannot Perform "Factory Data Reset"

Okay, as the thread title states and as I had searched for a Samsung Vibrant related thread about this issue I haven't found any. My issue as stands is when I try to perform a Factory Data Reset on my Samsung Vibrant t959VUVKD1, 2.2.1 Froyo, it only comes up with this set of words on the recovery screen.

So, as one can see this is evidence of my attempt at rooting and using Clockworkmod Recovery.
What I used was SuperOneClick 2.2 and successfully rooted my phone but then I decided to unroot after finding out ClockworkMod Recovery wasn't able to create a backup on my phone, also, I used a 3e_recovery_installer batch file I found somewhere which managed to unlock my Android system recovery so I could get into Clockworkmod Recovery but ever since I unrooted and uninstalled Clockworkmod Recovery it won't allow me to perform a factory data reset. I was able to do it TWICE after unrooting my phone but now I can't perform the factory data reset and I do not understand why.
Have you tried to odin back to stock or use the toolbox?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Never used Odin or Toolbox before because I've never found a concrete tutorial on how to correctly flash/root my vibrant. I would like to flash but I just don't feel safe about it even though I had downloaded a supposedly stock rom of the UKVD1 rom for Vibrant.

Erm, I used the Toolbox to use "Flash to Stock" and when Odin opened up I selected Pit.pit and it showed a yellow to green color on the first box and my phone turns off then nothing happens. What does this mean?
1. When odin opens select pit
2.click the Pit.pit file after screen change and click open
3.You should be returned to odin main.
4. click pda
5.click pda file and click open.
6.you are returned to main odin.
7.set phone down, click start and do not unplugg
8 let it run till pass, and auto reboot

I did all that just now but now I'm stuck on a looping charging screen or a looping Samsung Vibrant screen. However, this isn't the same as the original T-Mobile screen and even so how do I get past the looping screen?
1. pull the battery
2. insert the battery
3.hold down volumeup/ volumedown buttons
4. insert the usb cable, you should enter download.
5 reset toolbox and select flash to stock, odin should appear,
My experience.
When you are facing boot loop, it's very hard to get in to download mode.
I tried button trick for download mode, but I failed.
So I used adb and tried to reboot into download mode by command.
I repeated it until I could get into the mode.
Anyway, download Toolbox and once u get into the mode,
try to go back to stock. That 'll fix everything.
I also know that the logo changed after I flashed back to stock.
I faced I9000 logo which wasn't before.
FYI: + the version will be eclair, and I couldn't get the official update.
Anyway good luck.

If you never get into download mode.. Try to use JIG.
Another way is to disassembly your phone and do something.
I suggest you buy a JIG.
Problem is, I can easily get into Download mode by:
1. Remove USB Cable
2. Pull battery and re-insert
3. Plug in USB cable
4. Hold Volume - and +
And it's in Download mode
But I want to get the original Smasung Vibrant 2.2.1 UVKD1 Rom back on but it appears the provided files aren't it?
Btw, what is a Pit and and PDA file supposed to be, I'm a complete noob at this point.
The pit and pda files in aio toolbox are the stock rom the vibrant is shipped with, if you want anythig else on it you have to download it and flash it through odin, rom manager, or cwm.

I see. But now when the phone starts up it shows a buncha dots in consecutive order to the Samsung Vibrant screen after I flashed to stock using the pit and pda files and it just loops continuously until I pull the battery. Is there anything that can be done to get past the looping?
Does the pitcure look like a phone....!....computer? If so then you are softbricked and just get back in download mode and re-Odin, but make sure that when you Odin, you DO NOT have the repartition checked. Probably what happened.
If it is not the above, can you get into recovery? Can you now do a factory reset? Wipe cache, dalvik and reset usually clears the bootloop problem.

Unfortunately I can't get into recovery. I also Odin'd with the given Pit.pit and PDA.tar files with Repartition unchecked but that didn't change anything.
I cant figure how you could be in a bootloop coming out of odin. Is the AIO you downloaded for vibrant. I think theres one for fascinate and captivate.

I used the AIO Toolbar for Vibrant as provided by the link by the person earlier. The loop just continues forever and ever until I remove the battery.
The three button method of entering recovery hasnt worked?
You mean hold Power and Vol + and -?
No, it doesn't work.
i am hesitant to advise anything, the fact that factory reset didnt work, and recovery has been removed is troubling. when i get a fail message when flashing to stock ive used eugenes froyo that does not brick. If all else fails you might google it and read the op. Its a pda file used by odin.
What I find strange is that download mode works perfectly fine but nothing else.
what I find strange is coming out of odin and looping, you should come out in recovery with an error message. a cannot mount data or bdata. storage not ready. Removing recovery may have removed more than was expected. check the op on eugenes froyo you have to get back to stock.

Who has the best ICS ROM for At&T Note With Instructions - Donation !

I'm willing to DONATE and PAY for your time - to anyone that can put together a comprehensive set of information to assist me.
I have An At&t Galaxy Note with the 4.03 I717 UCLD3 version loaded on it. I have been toying around with rooting it, and trying to load custom roms, my head is spinning with all the posts.
I'm new, and like many people I have issues when I read the posts on this forum as there is no complete guide to load a new Root, find, and load a new ROM.
When the latest ICS was released a few weeks ago, I went to upgrade and my note will not upgrade with Kies since the counter has been tripped and it has the UCLD3 version on it.
Does anyone have the best ROM to load on the note, or can you explain in clear instructions how to get it back to 100% Stock so I can upgrade with At&t ( I'd rather not this approach, I'd love to get the junky At&t stuff off )
What I'm looking for:
1. A complete guide to root, and load a ROM that has everything the stock phone has, without the At&t bloatware ( IE: 4G, Spen support, compatible with samsung apps, keyboard etc.. )
2. A guide to bring the phone and counter back to 100% stock, so that it can be upgraded by Kies if no one can provide #1 above.
Thanks - I appreciate the help.
1. Get cwm HERE the Odin version.
2.once downloaded right click Odin and run as administrator, then click on the PDA slot and load the .tar you just got
(I'm sorry i don't have s link for Odin, shouldn't be too hard to find)
3 put phone in download mode by powering off, then holding volume down and power, then when prompted volume up.
4.connect to usb that's on a usb port in the back of the pc, no front ports or hubs.
5.when you get a yellow box with a :com: number in Odin hit start.
6a.(optional).no need to root first the Rom is rooted, only reason to root first is if you want to use titanium backup to save your apps and their settings.
For root, you'll need to find the su zip that's floating around and flash that in recovery first.
6b.(also optional)boot into recovery by holding all three buttons, both volume and power, then when you feel a vibrant let go of just the power button, go to backup and restore, abs make a nandroid backup of you're current set up.
7.go here for flappjaxxx latest stock based build.
Put that on your phone someplace you can get to without a bunch of navigating. Internal or external doesn't matter.
8.boot into recovery, go to wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache.
9.go to install zip for sdcard, now if you put the Rom on external the top option "from sdcard" is what you want. If internal the one on bottom that says "from internal sdcard" navigate to where you saved it, then confirm the flash.
Once done, boot into your new Rom and enjoy,
Not completely complete, but your welcome.
No donation needed, but i won't refund it if you were to feel the need lol
Agreed. I switched to twrp but cwm recovery is more user friendly/common
Pm me if you have any?s
ok 1st u will need to download this Root/CWM/ODIN
you will 1st need to put your phone into downlaod mode: power off phone - HOLD VOL DOWN + POWER, once you get the screen that shows Press VOL UP to get to download Mode, (make sure you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed) plug in USB, you will see the COM port in yellow (it does not matter which port number) then click on PDA and navigate to the cwm-touch-i717-120409.tar.md5 and click on start, you will reboot and you have CWM installed that is used to install roms and other stuff (to get in to CWM when device is powered off HOLD VOL UP + DOWN and press the POWER until u feel the 1st vibrate, once you see the 1st Samsung logo, u can let go), then flash Flash Counter Reset through CWM (this will reset your count in ODIN so it will not void warranty. I then use TWRP Recovery Instead of CWM i like the GUI better, just flash with CWM.
ROMS: no as for roms i love Hybrid roms, which makes it a tablet and Phone, i love Paranoid Android you can download here in either ICS or JB, these are already rooted so no need to do all then.
Instructions on Installing ROMS:
1. once you download the roms, move to External SD
2. make a back up with CWM or TWRP, just click on back up and u r done. on TWRP make sure to click on all boxes.
3. Once backed up u will want to do a factory reset, wipe dalvic Cache (in cwm it is under advanced) and wipe cache partition. (some roms will have different instructions but mainly the same)
4. once you r done flashing the rom. reboot and u r done
To Go back to stock you will go here: STOCK ROMS for i717 just download the one u want and you just flash it through ODIN, but if you have CWM or TWRP there is really no need for #2.
Need some help here...
I flash the cwm using odin but then it restarts the phone right after. Then I turn the phone off and go into recovery and I still see the stock recovery.
What am I doing wrong?
BTW the flash count is also going up each time I do it.

does the phone have to be in USB Debugging mode, if so im stuck
Do not worry of USB Debugging mode.
Follow this steps just use kernel from attachments.
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select siyah.tar
- Put your phone in download mode(vol down+power+menu button)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
Ive used Odin to reflash my phone with Siyah 6.04.tar kernel. According to Odin everything was ok but when phone rebooted i got the Samsung Galaxy SII screen this time with the yellow triangle and then the phone goes blank, ie turns off and nothing else
In recovery mode clean cache, dalvik cache and fix permision, if this dont help install new rom.

It is up to you. My is in my signature(I'm satisfied with it).
Maybe try Flash Stock rom ? And then Flash XXLSJ ?
Basically you stuck in a boot loop ...reason behind it is bad boot img., according to me. You can try restoring only system (in advance restore) or the entire nandroid itself, This is only if you have a backup done before.

Did i brick it? Stuck in CM10 loop

i just rooted for the 1st time with cwm then i was able to switch it to twrp. then i made a backup, then installed CM10. but i failed badly...i never deleted the 2 caches.
nor did i wipe it / reset it, for fear i would lose all my settings/apps/contacts/etc... i know i have the backup but i still didn't think it was necessary.
can anyone tell me where i go from here?
i tried holding down all 3 buttons, it just vibrates, then reboots and starts the loop again. i went into recovery mode with vol down & power buttons. since i don't have a tar file for twrp, i had to go with the tar file from odin. then it rebooted but it went back to the loop.
i just pulled the battery out and let it sit for a minute. turned it on and it is still CM10 looping.
thanks in advance for any advice!

You can try using odin and flashing the twrp tar file and you can find that here.
or you can use kies to do an emergency firmware update. It will blitz everything on your phone (except your external memory) and reinstall android version 4.1.2. Then you can root properly and know nothing is botched up.
To update to latest firmware (from any rom even rooted)
1. On a PC open http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
2. Click Download for windows
3. Install Kies
4. Open Kies
5. Write down serial number of phone device (it's under battery)
6. Plug in phone to PC and power up phone while HOLDING volume down
7. Once you see the download screen on phone press volume up
8. On PC in Kies click "tools - Firmware Upgrade and Initialization"
9. Type in SGH-I717 (all caps)
10. Type in serial number
11. Follow directions
12. Once phone reboots you will have the latest OFFICIAL AT&T firmware (JB 4.1.2 as of 6-1-2013)
13. Perform a factory data reset before proceeding (it helps it run smoother)
14. Type in google info and enjoy!
To root the stock 4.1.2 rom
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and Presto!
Your now on the latest software for the i717, rooted, and have twrp recovery installed. Enjoy or flash any rom of your choice!

I see more than 2 options for downloads in twrp. The one you should be using with odin is this one http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/sgh-i717/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-quincyatt.img.tar
don't unzip, open, or do anything with it. Just place it in the PDA section of odin and hit start.
If that fails use kies.
that file i cant find on the link, but thanks 440!!! Odin would get stuck at "Setup connection," so it wasn't working. tried it again and it said it did work, "passed," but still no changes from tthe CM10 loop.
i was desperate not to use Kies and lose everything. so i started messing around with different buttons. i pressed and held both volume buttons and power button again...it powered off and nothing. tried it again and this time i saw the teamwin logo!! i was able to then click restore on the Gnote's screen and now it is restoring my twrp back up from yesterday. i guess that last attempt on Odin paid off.
just rebooted it and voila, all is perfect again.
thanks for your quick assistance 440!!! :good::good::good:
so now if i try CM10 again, when i "wipe" it (i think that is the wording) will that wipe all my txt's, call history, photos, contacts, S memo's, etc...???

Click to collapse
Before you wipe make sure to do a complete back up, download sms backup or super backup to back up contacts, texts etc... Download app2zip or Titanium to back up your apps.
Here's the process I go through each time. Each time you will lose everything but is safer and have a better chance of not failing:
In TWRP
Factory reset
Wipe System
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Install your rom and the gapps
Wipe cache and dalvik again
reboot and let the phone sit for about 10mins, then reboot again and all should be good.
Once phone is up and running, if you did app2zip to back up your apps, you have to go back into recovery and flash that zip and install the backups from sms backup or super backup for your contacts, texts etc....
Hope that helped some.
