i just rooted for the 1st time with cwm then i was able to switch it to twrp. then i made a backup, then installed CM10. but i failed badly...i never deleted the 2 caches.
nor did i wipe it / reset it, for fear i would lose all my settings/apps/contacts/etc... i know i have the backup but i still didn't think it was necessary.
can anyone tell me where i go from here?
i tried holding down all 3 buttons, it just vibrates, then reboots and starts the loop again. i went into recovery mode with vol down & power buttons. since i don't have a tar file for twrp, i had to go with the tar file from odin. then it rebooted but it went back to the loop.
i just pulled the battery out and let it sit for a minute. turned it on and it is still CM10 looping.
thanks in advance for any advice!

You can try using odin and flashing the twrp tar file and you can find that here.
or you can use kies to do an emergency firmware update. It will blitz everything on your phone (except your external memory) and reinstall android version 4.1.2. Then you can root properly and know nothing is botched up.
To update to latest firmware (from any rom even rooted)
1. On a PC open http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
2. Click Download for windows
3. Install Kies
4. Open Kies
5. Write down serial number of phone device (it's under battery)
6. Plug in phone to PC and power up phone while HOLDING volume down
7. Once you see the download screen on phone press volume up
8. On PC in Kies click "tools - Firmware Upgrade and Initialization"
9. Type in SGH-I717 (all caps)
10. Type in serial number
11. Follow directions
12. Once phone reboots you will have the latest OFFICIAL AT&T firmware (JB 4.1.2 as of 6-1-2013)
13. Perform a factory data reset before proceeding (it helps it run smoother)
14. Type in google info and enjoy!
To root the stock 4.1.2 rom
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and Presto!
Your now on the latest software for the i717, rooted, and have twrp recovery installed. Enjoy or flash any rom of your choice!

I see more than 2 options for downloads in twrp. The one you should be using with odin is this one http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/sgh-i717/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-quincyatt.img.tar
don't unzip, open, or do anything with it. Just place it in the PDA section of odin and hit start.
If that fails use kies.
that file i cant find on the link, but thanks 440!!! Odin would get stuck at "Setup connection," so it wasn't working. tried it again and it said it did work, "passed," but still no changes from tthe CM10 loop.
i was desperate not to use Kies and lose everything. so i started messing around with different buttons. i pressed and held both volume buttons and power button again...it powered off and nothing. tried it again and this time i saw the teamwin logo!! i was able to then click restore on the Gnote's screen and now it is restoring my twrp back up from yesterday. i guess that last attempt on Odin paid off.
just rebooted it and voila, all is perfect again.
thanks for your quick assistance 440!!! :good::good::good:
so now if i try CM10 again, when i "wipe" it (i think that is the wording) will that wipe all my txt's, call history, photos, contacts, S memo's, etc...???

Before you wipe make sure to do a complete back up, download sms backup or super backup to back up contacts, texts etc... Download app2zip or Titanium to back up your apps.
Here's the process I go through each time. Each time you will lose everything but is safer and have a better chance of not failing:
In TWRP
Factory reset
Wipe System
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Install your rom and the gapps
Wipe cache and dalvik again
reboot and let the phone sit for about 10mins, then reboot again and all should be good.
Once phone is up and running, if you did app2zip to back up your apps, you have to go back into recovery and flash that zip and install the backups from sms backup or super backup for your contacts, texts etc....
Hope that helped some.

Im a noob, so basically I rooted my phone and went into CWM recovery to flash a new ROM but stupid me didnt back up my stock ROM, and also I totally fogot to download a Custom ROM onto my sd card, so I went into CWM and cleared cache, clear data/factory reset, and rebooted but then it kept turning on and kept on doing that, the samsung logo comes on then keeps repeating.
After I went in cwm again and clear davnik cache, wipe cache, wipe data/factory reset a load of time randomly but it still didnt work PLEASEE HELP IM A STUPID NOOB AND I only got this new!!!
you didnt flash anything so it should still be fine, just without your data, you can get into recovery or download mode why not flash a new rom in odin?,your phone is still fine.look for a stock rom to revert
Your phone will take 5 to 10 minutes to boot after clearing cache, so if you are sure your mobile doesn't boot after 10 minutes then you have two alternatives .
1. Boot into cwm, connect your mobile to PC, mount your sdcard via cwm, copy the custom rom and flash it.
2. Download a stock from and flash it via odin
#*posted on the move *#
Flash again
1. Download a new stock rom from samfirmware.com
2. Save it to your pc
3. Get odin 1.85
4. Put your phone in download mode make sure battery is at least 50%, by holding down volume down, power and home key
5. Once in download mode press volume up to continue
6. Now on your pc you installed open odin 1.85 open the program
7. Connect the usb cable to phone first then to your pc.
8. Wait for the first box in odin to come yellow
9. Once it does click on 'pda' and find the stock firmware you downloaded do remember do not extract it nothing.
10. Once you have selected the file it will appear in the PDA section sometimes depending on the stock rom there might be 3 files so you may need to put the other files in the section above and below PDA so make sure you read this before anything.
11. Once done click start
Once the box turns green it will say passed and your phone will reboot and you will have successfully installed the original firmware back again.

Hi everyone!
I finally decided to root my (old) Galaxy S2.
Sadly, just when I turn it on, it's stuck at the white AT&T screen with the AT&T logo in the center. I've tried everything with taking battery out and whatnot.
I also tried recovery mode with the Vol + and - buttons.
I believe the power button is jammed as my phone automatically turns on when the battery is placed in it. Because of this, I can't even use it in recovery mode. I also searched on the forums that many people have issues with the power button not functioning correctly, but for some reason, I can only take apart half the phone-- as in the plastic piece that covers up all the circuitry underneath, half of it stays on, stuck to it.
Could someone please me out here? I'd definitely like to be able to use my S2 as more of an iPod as I'm using an LG G2.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here!
When inserting the battery turns the phone on, it means that the power button has failed. It needs to be replaced for the phone to be fully useful. It is not the type or repair that can easily and practically be done at home, as it requires some specialized soldering equipment. You can send it out for repair. Mobile Tech Videos in LA will do the repair for $40.00 including return shipping. There is an ebay seller in the Chicago area that will do it for around $32.00 including return shipping. The ebay seller has a youtube video of the repair process which you can watch to see what it takes.
To get the phone going without a power button, proceed as follows:
Use Odin3 v1.85 to install the stock Gingerbread UCKH7 full distribituon from the Download Repository. (This is assuming that the phone is currently running a later version of the operating system, or you don't know which os for sure. You need Gingerbread to be able to complete the next step.)
Next, use Odin3 v1.85 to install the Siyah Gingerbread kernel v2.6.14. Download the tar version to flash in Odin. This kernel contains a touch recovery which will allow you to enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset, so do that next. The phone should now boot into the system.
From the Siyah Gingerbread kernel you can flash the firmware of your choice. Make sure you select a firmware that has a kernel with a touch recovery.
There are apps such as smart screen on that will allow you to turn the display on and off without the power button.
Hope this helps. If you have questions, please ask.
Thanks for the response!
I decided to not replace the lock button circuitry, and just use an alternative app that root will allow.
During this process, will my data be deleted? I have quite a lot of pictures and other texts on it that I'd like to save. I was an idiot for not transferring them out before I got my new device.
Also, I am on 4.2.2 TouchWiz... Should I be weary of anything else on the S2?

I think you must mean 4.1.2 TouchWiz, as that is the latest stock Samsung distribution for the SII. Would that be stock UCMD8, or SHOstock3? What kernel do you have installed? If you have SHOstock3 with the Jebo kernel, that is a touch recovery, and you should be able to enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset to get your phone to boot into the system. The stock kernel of course does not have touch, so it will not be possible in the stock kernel.
You won't lose your pictures. You will lose any text messages if that is what you mean by other texts. Basically, the data partition will be cleared, but the sd card will remain intact. So, anything that you have on the sd card will still be there.
If you install the stock Gingerbread, you will lose everything that is normally in the data partition, all installed applications, text messages, contacts, memos, etc. as they will be overwritten. Performing a wipe data/factory reset also deletes them.

I think my 4.1.2 is stock. I haven't done anything to it.
I have a 2GB Micro-SD card in the S2, but the majority of my pictures are on the phone memory.
I really would like to root my S2 without losing my pictures and whatnot.

You can safely follow my instructions without losing your pictures. Performing a wipe data/factory reset will wipe the data partition, but it will not touch the USB memory, also commonly referred to as the internal sdcard. Below, I will give some additional instructions, in case you need them.

If you are unfamiliar with using Odin, I can post a set of detailed instructions. You can download Odin3 v1.85 from a link in the Download Repository. (see my signature) When you open Odin on the pc desktop, uncheck the Auto Reboot item so that the only two check boxes that will be checked are F. Reset Time, and the one nest to the PDA slot, where you will put the firmware ---.tar.md5 file. After the flash is successful, pull the battery to turn the phone off, then proceed with the next step.

Again, leave Auto Reboot unchecked. After the flash is successful, pull the battery to turn the phone off, then boot into recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. Since this is a touch recovery, you can select items and do all the other functions with screen gestures, so you don't need the power button. After you perform the wipe data/factory reset, the phone should boot into system successfully. At this point, it would be a good idea to copy all your pictures onto your PC as a backup so that you don't lose them.
From the Siyah Gingerbread kernel you can flash the firmware of your choice. Make sure you select a firmware that has a kernel with a touch recovery.

At this point, picking a custom firmware that is already rooted, such as SHOstock3 v4.0 and flashing it from within the Siyah CWM recovery would be the easiest and most sensible way to proceed.
Alternatively, if you want stock, you can use Odin to flash the latest stock 4.1.2, I777UCMD8 which you can download from the download repository, and then root the phone with Framaroot using the Aragorn exploit.

Yes, I would like a detailed instruction on using Odin.
Do I turn the S2 on just by keeping the battery in, then connecting to my PC?
Also, where do I get this tar.md5 file?
Update: Phone finally passed the white AT&T logo screen. Phone is really laggy and seems to have reset my logins and whatnot...

Go to the Download Repository. At near the top of the page, you can find a link to download Odin3 v1.85. Download that to your PC. Then, download "I777UCKH7-REV02-home-low-CL503881.tar.md5.7z" from the section titled I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries. I think it the fifth section down from the top. Use an archiving program to extract the ...tar.md5 file from the archive. This is the first file you will use to flash in the PDA slot in step 7. There is a link to the kernel that you will need to flash second in my previous post. In this set of instructions, you start with the phone off. You should be able to pull the battery and put it back in without the phone turning on again. If you have any other questions, just ask.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.
11.) When complete, you will get a PASS (or FAIL if unsuccessful).
** Solved **
I found the very large backup file in the clockworkmod/backup folder and deleted it. All my prior free space has returned.
I will leave this post up if it may help someone else and I deserve the shame.

Hi,
First post and admitted noob. I already bricked my device once before but got it repaired by Samsung. But, I just can't stop messing around and apparently messing things up.
1. I previously had installed CWM 6.0.3.6 and rooted my device.
2. Today I flashed CWM 6.0.4.5. So far so good.
3. Using ROM Manager I made a backup of my ROM. This restarted the device into CWM and apparently made a backup.
4. I choose to reboot from within CWM and the device restarted into CWM
5. Repeat step 4
6. I chose to restore ROM from within CWM and it apparently restored it.
7. Reboot from within CWM and the device restarted into CWM.
8. I followed these instructions found in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-quattro/help/cwm-reboot-loop-french-gt-i8552-t2805964

Is there any way to solve this problem?
Thank you.

If you don't have a nandroid backup, then you will need to reflash the stock firmware via Odin and start over.
I didn't make a nandroid backup but it doesn't bother me much about losing data. I tried using Odin but I can't seem to understand how to use it.

There are a zillion guides around here, YouTube, etc on how it works. It's basically the same for almost any Samsung.
Download the appropriate firmware for your phone / carrier / region
Install drivers, if needed
Open Odin as Admin
Plug phone in Download Mode to PC
Odin should register phone as COM:XX where XX could be any numbers
Load the firmware in the PDA or AP slot, depending on which Odin version being used
After file is checked, hit Start
Wait patiently
Phone should reboot on it's own
If phone bootloops after successful flash, then reboot to the stock recovery and perform a factory data reset

1. Get TWRP recovery for your device. Flash it using Odin. If you can't flash it using Odin, use ADB and flash TWRP.
2. Here on, if you can successfully flash the stock ROM to your device using TWRP, you will have the device with stock Android running.
3. If you can't flash, enter TWRP recovery and mount all the drives and wipe them. Now flash stock ROM. You will have your device back.:good:

https://ge0n0sis.github.io/posts/20...-mode-using-an-undocumented-feature-of-aboot/
if anyone can use this documentation to bypass mdm mode it will be great
Very good. Very interesting.
But is for developers ...
Code is missing ....
as long as you can get into download mode it is pretty simple Ive done quite a few. Download stock firmware and in odin click on the options tab select nand erase all checkbox and flash the stock files in and it removed the mdm while flashing.
Worked for me
Thanks buddy

For me this worked pretty much, but I only needed step 1. Once inside TWRP recovery, I just needed to wipe to factory reset and reboot. These were the steps for my Eat 24 tablet SM-T280:
1. Install the drivers if necessary
2. Go to Download mode by using Volume Down + Home + Power
3. Download and Extract TWRP compatible with SM-T280 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...covery-samsung-galaxy-tab-a6-sm-t280-t3475381. TWRP is a custom recovery image for Android.
4. Download and Install Odin (this works only on Samsung devices)
5. Use Odin by running as administrator, uncheck Auto Reboot, select AP and point to the extracted TWRP .tar file, then click on start.
6. Once successful, hold home + volume down + power to shut off tablet.
7. Go to TWRP recovery by holding home + volume up + power.
8. Select "Wipe", and "swipe to factory reset"
9. Reboot
This worked for my SM-T280

I'm writing this reply in hopes that it will help anyone else in a similar situation.
Before finding this thread i had zero, ZERO experience rooting/flashing twrp'ing, whatever you call it.
I still don't understand fully what i did by following the instructions in this thread.
I just know it worked.
By using the instructions here and from another thread on this website, i was able to successfully flash twrp [whatever you call it] my Samsung A6 that was in mdm mode.
Prior to following the instructions in this thread, i could only go online with my tablet. It wouldn't let me open any settings, change anything, it wouldn't let me do a factory reset.
Now, i am able to use the tablet as if i had just purchased it.
After following the instructions, and after rebooting, i saw the screens you normally see when you turn on your tablet for the first time. All of the setup, agree to terms, Samsung account setup, available WiFi connections; everything; it was all there just like it's supposed to be.
I was so excited to see the setup screens.
After agreeing and going through setup I was able to use my tablet 100% like normal.
Thank you and thank you to the other users who posted directions on how to do this.
I will soon post my own new thread that will have each step laid out so that anyone in the same situation can easily follow it from beginning to end.
i have 5 device T280 bloked by MDM how can you help me please?
i have 10 device T561 bloked by MDM how can you help me please?
Hi, I was able to unlock a Samsung Galaxy Tab A that was locked in MDM mode by postmates.
MDM blocked any recovery wiping or download mode flashing, so I couldn't flash TWRP.
I was able to set a screen lock (pattern) and turn on "wipe after 15 attempts." After 15 attempts it rebooted and was stuck on the logo screen for hours so I figured it didn't do anything. I was able to reboot into download mode and successfully flash TWRP at this point (I forgot to select NAND erase). I also was able to flash the stock rom, though unable to wipe in recovery first. I wasn't able to get into TWRP.
It rebooted and seemed like before, with the postmates kiosk mode and MDM lock in recovery wipe and download mode flashing. I went back into download mode and tried to flash TWRP again with nand selected. It didn't work, neither did flashing a ROM.
Anyways, it rebooted into the setup screen as if it was wiped.
