SOLVED
Hi!
I've been strugling with this problem for a while now. Every time I go to CWM and pick a zip file to flash, it starts writing log, but as soon as it hits the point "Opening update file", it gets stuck there. I waited for an hour, and it just didn't progress. I had CWM work before. Oddly, I can still install Gapps.zip and CM9nightly.zip(I'm using CM9 now, because there ain't no choice...[not saying it's bad rom, it's just greedy for battery])
And sometimes, it won't get stuck there, but instead it aborts the install and says
"E:can't open /sdcard/update-Arconium-ICS-v7.zip
(Bad)
Installation aborted."
(obviously update-Arconium is the rom I try to install)
I have tried to format my SD card couple of times, but it made no difference.
I've tried wiping data, dalvik and cache. No difference.
I've tried corresponding kernels. Again, no difference.
Is there anything I can do?
All help appreciated. Thank you!
have u try to download one more time this ROM maybe its not good or try to update CWM
I dont think that is kernell problem
ZOMG! Got it work! Dunno how exactly though.
Possible could have been a corrupted zip file.

Good evening,
I have a problem something like this ... the problem is in their own recovery.
I installed recovery, and supposedly installed everything OK.
the worst and go into the recovery agr (Betelgeuse v0.3), the file update meth-cm-9.0.0-RC0-folio100-KANG-r3.zip-signed for the card, already moved to update.zip and recovery not read the file.
He always says "no such file or directory" ... to help, I was "stuck" in the boot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 Android 2.3. the doll is always blue ... never goes away ... not enough to pass the animated image ... I've basically wipe data / factory reset, wipe Dalvik cache and everything .. and is always caught in the same place.
I try to install any rom and I can not install none (cant install oder recovery). what can I do? any ideas?
greetings
i think what i need is a complete odin install... back to stock for wifi
Been running ICS M4 just fine for a while, I did an app update in market and it crashed. rebooted and it freezes on Kang logo. I have done every wipe I can in CWM and I get no where.
Doing 'fix permissions' or factory wipe, neither one will finish, factory will not finish ad just reboot on its own.
i tired installing a diff ROM or two that i have on it already, same thing, freezes on boot animations.
I cant find a COMPLETE odin install.... open to any help and thanks for your time.

they have all the stock odin flashable firmwares available for download there.
oh and if you get stuck at a boot logo loop after stock rom flash, do a factory restore and clear cache using the stock recovery (it happened to me). you can then start over with the root/cwm/custom rom process if you want.
did that, thanks... after odin finished it reboots. says:
# maunal mode #
---Updating Aplications ---
copying ' XAB ' apk
copying common Apks.
holds there for 10 seconds and reboots right back to that as i typed.
If i boot into recovery, as soon as i click the icon to actually goto recovery it reboots to what I typed above.
I have also reflashed cwm recovery and can get to recovery then flash a rom, but it still freezes during boot animations.... ugh.
I fixed it! I used the overcome guide here...
the prob with samobile file was there was no PIT. once I got that out of the overcome DL It was ok and booted just like the guide said... from there i reflashed CWM recovery.tar. since I could boot in to HC I could transfer a new aokp ICS rom and all is good
Hi,
First time it happened. tried everything but still cant fix it.
after a month or two on MIUI, I wanted to move to AOKP JB.
As I always do when switching ROMs, I backed up everything (efs, pictures, apps with titanium, etc) and format the internal sd card within the os to get rid of all the junk.
Then went into CWM (siyah) and wiped data and cache.
And now for my mistake, I foramt the /system instead of / cache.
So now, when Im trying to install the ROM as a zip file threw CWM I got an error 7.
When trying to do it on ODIN, it stuck on 'factory fs', 'cache', or 'boot'.
After some time, I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" message.
Then got rid of it after somehow succeeding installing a different cwm (the stock one) but nothing worked there either, exept installing the Siyah kernel zip from there.
What can I do now to get my phone back alive?
THANKS :crying:

I jumped from S1 to S3, but I'm sure it's applicable. You need to flash via odin stock rom that originally came with your phone. Then root then flash custom rom. Odd tho in past I've done the 5 formats, boot, cache, data, system, sdcard then while still in recovery flash rom. Good luck

The problem is, I really cant remember what was the original ROM version. I bought it end of june 2011.
I cant even remember if it was a UK ROM, or an open europe one, or anything else.

I got my S3 a while ago and only recently decided to install a custom rom. I installed the CM10.1 nightly build and I've been happy with it and all, but upon seeing MIUI on my friend's phone I decided to flash MIUI. Now, when I tried flashing through recovery it hung for a min or so at "opening update package" and then gave me an error saying "E: Can't open /external_sd/miuiandroid_m0_jb-3.1.25.zip (bad) Installation aborted". I have tried re-downloading the rom and all, I've tried wiping cache/dalvik cache and even a factory reset and nothing's worked so far.
This happens no matter what rom I try to flash over CM. Has anyone had this happen and does anyone know how to fix it?

Never happened to me. I can suggest a method that's not been tested, although theoretically there should be no problem implementing.
Although, have you tried flashing some AOSP mods? I'm getting a feeling something might be wrong with your recovery. If that is the case, try flashing siyah and hijack the recovery using stweaks. Then try installing roms again.
Are you installing from the internal or external sd? try the internal, and check the md5

Tried both internal and external, I get the same thing. I'm pretty sure that it's not corrupted since this is the same file that my friend used to flash his s3 to miui.

I have not, will try it.
Edit: Flashed an AOSP rom and it worked fine, then MIUI, the install worked but now MIUI is just hanging on the boot screen.
Edit 2: Okay I got it working, I had to do a factory reset and it just started working.
Thanks for your help guys
So as Wifi was not working on my Xperia u for team canjica's cm 10.+
I decided to install Miui5. but i did a stupid move, without copying the .zip of miui, i went into cvm and format /system, clear data, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, and tried to reboot but nothing happened.
So i went into choose zip from sdcard, and cm10.1.zip was there, but when I tried to install it i got an error saying
E: Error in /sdcard/cm10.1..*big name* kumquat.zip
And the installation aborted.
Now i cant startup my phone, cant flash anyother ram, im pretty scared.. what should i do? Please Help me..
You can flash stock sony rom using flashtool.
So i enter in flash mode and flash generic ftf ?
Before you flash you should do a backup, I am sure you will next time :d
Yes just flash FTF preferrably one you flashed before.
Yes, that's the way.
