ICS Ressurection V1.3 Issues. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. Been Modding my phones for a few years now. Started with an iPhone 3gs. Then moved onto a galaxy s. Ran darkys from on there and then upgraded to an s2 in Oct 2011. I've got experience in Modding but I don't have the correct authorisation to post on the main rom page. Although I'm new to posting I've been viewing this forum for years. I was running the v1.1 of the Ressurection remix rom. Only issue was random app closes and terrible battery life. I've now moved on to v1.3. I installed the stock Sammy ics firmware so went from that to 1.3. Runs like a dream. No errors at all. No force closures or nothing. Only issue is the hot keys and vibration. I want the hot keys to light up when I hit them. And then shut off after 3 seconds, like they used too. I don't want them on all the time. Even tho I have them switched off they make random appearances. And why does swagger mode keep turning on? Can the phone sense Im Swagtastic or summit? Lol.
Any help would be much appreciated.
PS. WESTCRIP doesn't deserve half the stick he's getting in main rom thread. This rom is amazing. So many customization options, speed and battery. If your not able to follow the very basic installation guides and your install went bad... then its your fault.. not his. He's produced the best version yet.

You have to wait for the next update. You can try the thoravukk kernel for the hot keys.

Thanks a lot. I'll happily wait as the rom is fantastic. A few white lights missing won't force me to downgrade the rom.

I know what you mean, amazing rom, the best i've tried by far. People seem to get the weirdest of issues on the main thread.

I am not sold on 1.3.
I had 1.1, upgraded to 1.2, went back to 1.1, upgraded to 1.3 and now back to 1.1.
My device ran much slower and battery life suffered each time I upgraded from 1.1
So far, 1.1 is the better ICS Resurrection for me.
I am trying out Foxhound now but as I am in dual boot mode, the 1.1 is here to stay unless I see a significant performance improvement on 1.3.

I used wanam(I think that's how its spelt) stock ics s2 rom. Then flashed 1.3 over that. Then gapps. Then realised I never wiped cache etc so re-flashed after wipeing cache and this rom is running amazingly. Dunno weather the way I installed made any difference or not. Personally I believe it has. This is easily twice as responsive as 1.1 and I'm also getting 4mb download speeds as apposed to 1.2mb on 1.1 in the same spot on mobile networks. 1.3 is awesome.

Does anyone have a link to the older versions and possibly a change log?

I agree with you. I'm in love with 1.3, and i see that some minor bugs are natural if you are on a bleeding edge technology like this is. 1.1 is more stable, true. But 1.3 is a beauty, the potential of aokp makes me thonk ther's gonna be way better, especially if developed by people like Wes.
I'm using thoravukk kernel. hot keys works better, not perfect. Battery is very good testing it now. You have many governors to play with and supports UC and OC.
Tell me if it helped

download link for 1.0,1.1 and 1.2 http://mirror10.downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2/roms/ResurrectionICSROM/PRO

I had siyah on v1.1 and the battery was terrible. Get like an hour hard use(mainly mine craft pe) which was probably related to something else. whereas today I've been on 4 hours usage with like 63% remaining. Love the feature to put the clock in the center of status bar too with the day and am/pm either side of it.
The kernel that comes with 1.3 is great so far anyways. Everything is completely stable.

I was a big fan of resurrection remix v1. 1, then I was about to try v1.2 but was scared away by all the bugs etc, and plus v1.1 was very buggy, random reboots aplenty, fone becoming very hot around processors etc, so didn't bother. Now he's released v1.3 very soon after 1.2 so I decided to go a diff route & I tried Omega v9. I've been running Omega now for a week or so & I honestly love it. I its rock solid stable, and no reboots at all, had 2 fc issues but they were both caused by apex. It's got the kitchen App so many mods & customizations are only a click away. Also it just works, & I do mean everything. The dev is now working on v10 & I for one can't wait

Is it worth installing v1.3 over 1.1 in terms of peformance, battery life, stability etc...?
Have read some people seem to be happier with 1.1 but surely as a newer ROM 1.3 would be better!
i know its down to personal choice at the end of the day but just wanted to know peoples experience/opinions
Thanks
Saf
On a separete note, did my first flash yesterday to v1.1, am pretty happy i managed to do it, the rush you get....hehe!

Try Omega v9, you won't be disappointed

NO... it's not worth it. Better off going to 1.4 of RR
PS
no more bugs on 1.1 than any other roms after you installed the fixes posted - but most users are not very good at reading about bugs and the fixes for them (even when they are posted on the OP) lol.

[Q] Looking for a little advice

So! My mother is on the lookout for a new phone, and this guy is cheap on Verizons site. Her phone that she has now, the LG Revolution, has constant freezing issues that irritate her beyond all belief, and because I know Android she dumps them all on me. I'm looking for some questions answered about this phone before I decide if this is the phone for her:
I have read on the Engadget Review that this phone freezes often. After custom ROMs are installed (I'm thinking MIUI), is this problem alleviated?
The LG Revolution has this weird issue where it's way too easy to scroll on it, which makes opening icons on any homescreen app drawer a huge PITA.
I basically need to be able to install ROM, drop it in her hands, and feel comfortable that she's not going to run into any hardware issues with the phone. This includes freezing because of memory issues.
Also, the drop of 4G isn't an issue, it's not in the area anyways.
Thanks guys for your comments and advice ahead of time.
This device pretty much poops on the revolution. That being said my device never froze when it was stock. We have alot of rom options from mtd based roms such as android 4.0 ICS v4, CM7.1 stable, Miui, Tsm pool party...also there are some really good TouchWiz Ginberbread roms such as, Superclean v.5, PWGB, Geewiz etc... I currently am bouncing between cm7 and ICS, but I cant say those are the best roms, they all are pretty good. You will just have to try them and see what your mother likes best.
No freezing problems here, although it does bug out on me with random pressings of the back key. Sometimes the phone will enter screen capture mode and take a screen shot every time I try to power it down. Removing the screencapture apk solves this.
Overall it has been a good phone and has served me well. Gotta love that Samsung display!
I havent had this device for that long, but I love it compared to by old Droid X, mostly due to nicer screen, better battery life, and easier hack-ability.
That being said, I personally am curious on what has been done, if anything, to the LG.
Has it been rooted?
Are you running aftermarket software?
Some freezing issues can be solved by changing ram parameters, others by getting rid of certain bad apps.
I personally would like to see if your problems are actually solvable before getting a new and unfamiliar device, just for S&G's of course
It is rooted, and even after messing with the ram settings tweaked it still freezes. The other problem is that it dies way quickly, even with JuiceDefender and a calibrated battery. She's only had it for a week, so she's not yet settled on that one's ways.

I've had this phone for almost two years now and I've never had it freeze up on me. Install the SuperClean3 ROM. Solid ROM for that phone. I currently have ICS but for your mother's phone use SC3.

Does this happen on multiple ROMs, or just on stock?

I'm also a fan of SuperClean. Great rom, with none of the AOSP issues that I find to be annoying enough to avoid. If you want to tweak it a bit, add KGB kernel and maybe a different launcher (I like OMFGB-Launcher) and Rom Toolbox will handle just about everything else. This is my setup, no major tweaks (lag fix, etc) other than zram and 1.2 gHz overclock. Fast and stable.

[Q] Clean and Stable ICS?

Hi, I have been asleep for a while now, so I was not watching the scene on 4.0 ICS recently. Now when I got my phone from second repair in last two months, I have noticed plenty of 4.0.3 ROMs, that seems to be more or less stable, with and without Samsung apps and so on.
Because it would take too long to check all of the roms and keep flashing reflashing modding, and testing, I got little tired of that now, and I dont have time to start studying how to cook my own ROM and do it. So I would like to ask you guys for help.
I am looking for some ICS ROM that would be as clean and stable as possible these days, which means, no samsung apps, no extra features, just clean android as close to stock from Nexus phones as possible. Dev should instead of adding new features focus on making the ROM as stable as possible.
Thanks for suggestions, as my signature says I am now on Simplistic rom, which is pretty good, but just wondering if there is anything even closer to what I am looking for you might see somewhere. Thanks for any suggestions
Official out in a few weeks... wait
Or flash one of many beta roms but may have a few bugs
And search ?!!?!?!? All your answers are already out there
I recently moved from Gingerbread 2.3.6 to AndyX Rom v5.3 which is based on Android 4.0.3 [XXLB].
Very good.....stable....fast...and good battery backup. You can give it a shot.
Official from samsung will contain samsung apps+touchwiz, which I hate, and same does Andy's rom, I have already tried his 6.0 version.

Did a nandroid of good old Hyperdroid. Im using andy's 6.0 version. Froze all the samsung bloatware and using the cm9 launcher. Been pretty smooth, widget locker runs like ass though so just sticking with Face Unlock for now.
Edit: Just needed to update Widget Locker. Working Fine now
Looks like you are already on a good rom. There are no stable roms yet.
I have tried almost all of them. I liked cm9 the most. Looks like it will be a rom which can be used right out of the box. But lacks some features since it is only experimental.
Wait for a couple of weeks, then you should have many stable roms to try out. Or in a month, or think we will have proper cm9

Is with that one the vibration working for ringtones? On simplicity LP6 there are all vibrations except for ringtones... which is driving me nuts when using Instant messengers, where I dont want to miss anything, but tone is ridiculously annoying...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Edit: did anyone found out way how to switch off the phone waiting for second press of home button? it makes the phone feels lazy, when it waits like 500ms for second press, instead of immediate action.
hi there,
I'm using Westcrips LPH resurrection ROM remix V9.3... and really wow ! I haven't had any FC's or i haven't seen any crashes or something like that.. ? Its really weird because Android 4 is still under development... but this ROM is really ready for daily use !
Vibration with ringtone is within this ROM, You could delete the Google apps if you want bu using root explorer, The only thing that I've noticed is that the vibration don't works with notifications..
Ive already resolved that problem by downloading an app called: Sound Manager. And change the settings under 'Notifications' to Vibrate whenever possible.. And it works..
You should try that one

I've been testing the "resurrection remix v9.3 ICS black edition xxlph 4.0.3. full-wipe". Flashed it earlier today but I've had westcrips remix rom since v8.6 and it has some fc's but they are really rare and battery life is quite good. Also touchwiz has been removed and it has both trebuchet and nova launchers. Give it a go if you don't mind doing full wipe You can find a video of the rom from youtube or by searching android development section.

Not to be rude or anything...But is there a reason why this is your first post and you created this account in this month? Coincidence? I think not!
Promotion of your OWN rom? I think so!
Have a nice day!
ive been using this one for a bit, its worked out surprisingly well so far. still needs a few little tweaks but its surpassed my expectations (been on villainrom, checkrom, omega ics previously)
Pure ICS v6.1
The only thing I dont like ICS is battery drain. No matter what ROM I use, it drains my batt 1% every 8min when the display is on. I prefer CM7 and cant wait for CM9 to have its video recording fixed !

I havent experienced that at all, I had it go around 30 hours with 3.5 hours of screen on time and still had 30% battery life the other day. And there was a pretty significant amount of internet usage in that time too

use code *#9900# and disable FAST DORMACY and then see if your battery life gets better.. if you'd like to know what that is, check http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9191759/Fast_dormancy_to_improve_smartphone_networking_and_battery_performance_
I would also vote for "resurrection remix" I'm using the 9.0 version now with the xxlph kernel and beside a few glitches it has been very stable.
Has anyone played with CM9 - ICS firmware, it would be great to know how stable that is.
Im using the XXLPH - but I have been have slight problems with Wifi Scan, it doesn't seem quick enough, not like the other android phones I've used.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

IMHO, CM9 is the best ICS except you can't record video using the camera app. Wait until the devs get the source code. Other than that, this ROM is outstanding! I think next month is ICS month for all

I havnt flashed in a year

Hi, I haven't been an xda user in a while , I used to love tinkering around with my phones all day long.
now, I life has been taking over and I don't have the time to try out new stuff all day long.
that being said, the last rom I tried was a team whiskey bionix v1.3.1 sometime in early 2011 . I don't even think I wiped anything since.
I want a new rom, I feel like my phone is getting sluggish. I don't want to try roms that is going to make the phone slower, or is made for a faster phone (assuming ICS would be out of the question for me)
should I just stick with my current rom and wipe everything? I didn't have any complaints with it.
or are there better ones out now that wont compromise performance.
also another important thing for me is audio quality and saw many recommendations for voodoo sound. I don't have a kernal that supports it. I am running 2.6.32.9 jaeyoon.yoon
so pretty much what is the best rom and kernal combination for me that has no bugs, everything will run nice and snappy on. I don't want to experiment around anymore. I will straight up run the most recommended one.
many thanks in advance
I was in the same boat as you. I loaded Bionix back in February of last year and hadn't touched my phone's ROM since. For some reason I decided to see if there was anything new and sure enough ICS ROMs were available.
I love being on the cutting edge but my phone has to work too. I travel a lot and when I'm on the road I need to be able to depend on the phone working reliably. Looking at the ROMs available I went with the one with the most forum activity - that was ICS Passion. I flashed it first and was immediately impressed. Most everything works with the exception of the speakerphone which, while it does work, it seems like it picks up a lot of background noise.
Since then I've tried a few others but based on reliability and some UI preferences I went back to Passion. There are several battery mods which is nice, I like the Newborn3 battery style myself.
The other thing I've experimented with is the Kernel. I settled on the Glitch kernel because it seems the fastest to me and has no problem with the lock screen. It has Voodoo stuff which I honestly don't use much. The kernel does have issues creating a Nandoid backup but I never use those either ;-)
After using ICS I will not go back. In fact even the newer phones such as the SGS2 hold no attraction for me until there is a good ICS ROM available.
Hope that helps.
First off thank you bigjoe87865 for posting your question as I was in a similar situation. I previously had Axura and it was way too buggy and slugish. I finally had it the other night and started researching posts on the best rom and saw your question.
Second, atatistcheff, you installed ICS Passion and eventually you put the Glitch kernel. What was the reasoning in going about in installing this kernel and not using what was supplied with ICS passion? Would I enjoy my phone with just using ICS?
Was in the same boat as you until this week - long time Froyo user (Trigger and Bi-winning) for the past year. The GB roms always seemed to be too much trouble and not very practical.
After seeing all the positive feedback on the ICS ROMs, I figured I'd give it a shot and installed ICS Passion this week. Was immediately impressed with the speed, stability and functionality. Only problem I has was the battery life - it was simply awful. Saw posts regarding the battery life of SlimICS and flashed it on Friday. Works just as well as Passion, with the battery life I'm used from my Froyo ROMs. My single complaint is that the stock kernel doesn't support Voodoo sound, but I can do without that for the time being.
Long answer short: there's pretty much no reason to avoid ICS at this point - I'm a very light GPS user, so this is not a priority for me.

Passion always had a nagging issue with the lock screen for me. That is every few times when I pressed the power button to wake the phone up it would not respond. I'd have to press several times to get it to wake up. I've seen this issue posted about several times. It's really not serious and as with most issues YMMV. I think you'd be fine with Passion and the stock kernel. I like Glitch because the lock screen issue is non-existant and it seems to work fine with Passion.
You guys want a good ICS rom, flash ICZenwich 1.4, you'll thank me later
For those that want a very good froyo rom then I would go with

Your experience with the new ICS roms and Leak ICS rom

I'm actually proof the ICS Phone Bricker 2.0.1 on may Samsung Galaxy SGH I777 and this is what i found on it:
1.-When i use the Talk app and somebody write to me it make a weird sound again....and again....and again......
2.- I must make around 15 wipes and go back to the factory kernel and root again my cellphone and over 3 hours or more left i make my phone works with my service provider because in ever install of this rom not works.
3.- Going crazy trying to recognize SD card on my PC.
4.- Lag buttons
5.- apk's like Android Overclock, or Chainfire 3D Pro Crashes if u reboot your phone.
6.- Takes a lot of time to sync with my Wireless Access Point.
7.- Some native functions on Setting not works.
Please comment your experiences about this ROMs.
Was on the rooted leaked ROM posted by task but I just restored back to UnNamed 2.2.1 after a couple of days. It bugged me that I was not able to view battery stats and contacts tab was missing in the dialer. I hated the wifi bug of it not being able to reconnect automatically.
I really liked that the stock messaging app did not show mms as slide show and I loved the pattern lockscreen (clock, brighter wallpaper and smaller dots). Never did get the weather to show on there though.
For me UnNamed works better. Might try out SHOstock this weekend if I am not too busy.

im on the ShishirROM ICS and i love this thing! i tried phonebricker and another one and then ShishirROM was the last one i tried and i have been on this ever since. i have yet to notice a single bug that i can find... i came from unnamed and i can say that i dont believe i am going to be going back to it since ive installed this. i have had it on my phone for 4-5? days.
I tried Mystic's rom and was not satisfied with ICS, i've been on unnammed 2.2.1 for awhile and with launcher pro it flys. I used Apex launcher but it still seemed that the rom lagged switching screens. I use email a lot for work and hated that the background was black instead of white like GB. Overall, the rom was well done by Mystic no real bugs I could see but I think I am going to wait for our source to drop and hope who ever did UnNamed makes an ICS rom. I can deal with the battery issues of KK6, I gotta have my speed.

I can deal with the battery issues of KK6, I gotta have my speed.

We have the i9100 source already and the only real benefit from i777 leaks could be NFC if it were included. Ultimatum is a good ICS ROM which will be rebased soon. Phone Bricker is also good I don't know what the OP is doing wrong. Most of it is just waiting for better i9100 firmware to be released along with allowing time for our current kernels to mature a bit.

There is a unified ICS thread for this kind of crap. Please stop littering the forums with all this ICS garbage until we have an official release.

I've tried several ICS ROMs and they've all had some sort of bugs floating around in them. I'm currently using ShishirROM ICS and it's been the smoothest so far.
I think a lot of the problems are with the latest UCLC2 Modem. I was having major heating issues and reverted back to KH7. Now all is well.

I'm actually proof the ICS Phone Bricker 2.0.1 on may Samsung Galaxy SGH I777 and this is what i found on it:
1.-When i use the Talk app and somebody write to me it make a weird sound again....and again....and again......
?????
2.- I must make around 15 wipes and go back to the factory kernel and root again my cellphone and over 3 hours or more left i make my phone works with my service provider because in ever install of this rom not works.
Did you try different modems?
Nobody else is having this issue as of yet.
3.- Going crazy trying to recognize SD card on my PC.
ICS changed how USB storage works, hope you know that.
4.- Lag buttons
Seriously? These are early stages and every build and kernel update makes things better.
5.- apk's like Android Overclock, or Chainfire 3D Pro Crashes if u reboot your phone.
Overclocking/volt changing does not work properly, its in development by the kernel devs (PLEASE DON'T BOTHER THEM)
6.- Takes a lot of time to sync with my Wireless Access Point.
Haven't heard of this problem before.
7.- Some native functions on Setting not works.
I removed a good amount of bloat, but only things that don't work is the "track me" settings as I don't care for it.
If you want it I could have sent you the apks but nobody has requested for it in my thread.
Please comment your experiences about this ROMs.

Oh good Lord. Not only do we have like 2 dedicated ICS threads, this thread serves ABSOLUTELY no purpose. Im not going to allow threads to be started to bash Dev's hard work (THAT STILL IN PROGRESS I might add) and to just whine. If you dont like ICS, then downgrade back to GB. No need to start a thread about it.

CM7 vs. Eclipse 2.2

Help a noob out? I have a virgin DX2 - never rooted - freshly updated to 2.3.5 (was in the soak) - and I'm finally ready to root it and try out a ROM. I've been lurking here for a week or so reading & trying to learn all I can about the process - and I think I'm ready to give it a shot.
Obviously Step 1 is to SBF back to 2.3.4 so I can get rooted, but after that is where I'm running into some indecision. I can't decide if I want to go straight to CM7 from there - or follow the instructions to keep root, SBF back to 2.3.5 and install Eclipse 2.2.
I know both ROMs have their loyal followers and I'm sure either would be a big improvement over stock Blur... and I know it's easy enough to try BOTH of them once I get the hang of all this... but I'd still appreciate some advice about which to try first.
For those of you who've tried both, which do you prefer? What are the pros & cons of each?
Thanks!

I'm guessing you've seen this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632111
Seems to center around Eclipse and CM7 mostly. Eclipse can be a bit more polished in my estimation, mostly due to HDMI, FM radio, less buggy, you know, all the bells and whistles working. For the most part, either way you go you'll be fine.
Currently I have myself and my wife on CM7, we both like it. No real issues to speak of.
I personally perfer CM7RC1 its a solid daily driver very minor issues and I never get bored with it. Here's my overview of both ROMs.
CM7RC1
Pros:
Extremely Smooth.
Lots Of Mods/Tweaks.
Endless Customization.
Gingerbread 2.37
Theme Engine.
Wifi Tethering
Fully AOSP.
Toggles.
Cons:
HDMI Mirroring Is Unsupported.
FM Radio Is Unsupported.
Bugs:
Data Triangle. (Fixed By Reboot, *228)
Battery Exclamation. (Fixed By Reboot)
Some Experience Wifi Connecting Issues. (Fixed By Manual Connect)
Eclipse 2.2
Very Smooth.
Few Mods/Tweaks.
Limited Customization.
Gingerbread 2.35.
Flashable Themes.
AOSP/BLUR Hybrid.
Toggles.
Cons:
Lack Of Customization.
Is Only Gingerbread 2.35.
No Tethering.
Bugs:
Some Experience Wifi Resetting. (No Fix ATM)

I have tried out every x2 rom under the sun and as of right now I think your best bet is cm7. I would recommend running the cm7 mash up script, along with the dual core script, because with both of these the res is flawless.
but of course, I think you should try both of them out because it is personal preference. And if we get cm9 here soon then we will all be happy little cracked out, flashed up, ics'd whores with everything we can dream of for the x2, with some extra feta cheese.

This is a fair evaluation of both ROMs but really it all boils down to personal preference and things like if you need HDMI and stuff like that...I personally never use HDMI or the FM radio...but still liked eclipse and that's what I have on my wife's phone albeit its 2.1...I am sure when CM9 comes out she will like to try it...in short flash them both run them for a week or so and see which one you like and go from there

Just a caution on CM7; I haven't tried the latest release but on the first release the camcorder continuous auto-focus didn't function. It seemed to focus once when you press the shutter button and remain fixed, and sometimes that focus was in error itself. Not a lot of people seem to care about that but my phone has the heavy responsibility of archiving my sons' most important memories for them to look back on when they are older, so I just went back to stock rom. Other than that, CM7 seemed great.
I use CM7RC1 Dual Core Script, Build Prop Mashup, 8 Touch Point Mod, Cron Scheduler, Beats Audio, 3 CDMA Mods. My phone is blazing fast!
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
In my experience the beats audio hack ruined my sound quality. Also the dual core script......Our 2nd core boots up automatically when there's a demand for more memory. Dragonzkiller even stated this is the dual core script thread. Keeping both on at all times pretty much only drains your battery faster. Only difference I noticed with it was the home screen animations were a little snappier. Wasn't enough change in performance for the lack of battery IMHO. Just a few things if you go the CM7 route. Never tried Eclipse so I can't help you there.

Why do these keep popping up...the search bar is definitely not be used...
Anyways...Eclipse is literally a hair slower than cm7 but it is worlds more stable. Wifi on Eclipse far better than cm7's. Cm7 has some SU issues but they can be fixed by installing Super SU from the market and getting rid of the normal SU app.
Tethering is easier on cm7 is strong -- heat is something you'll have to worry about. I've tethered on Eclipse through the use of a Market app so a little more work must be done there.
Downside to Eclipse is that you must go to 2.3.5 to use it whereas Cm7 is 2.3.4. Battery life on Eclipse is better for me. I've had serious computer trouble this past month and have had to do some research for papers on my phone! With the brightness on full, Gmusic/Pandora/power amp going and internet on my battery would last ~6-9 hours.
I should also mention that I have the Second Core Script going and my battery life took a very small. Not backbreaking but noticeable.
Not going to lie ; your phone will heat up slightly more regardless of the rom you're on when you use the script
Personally I enjoy Eclipse much more than cm7. Blue is my favorite color
Come over to the dark side...
Hmm haven't ran into any sound issues yet. As far as the dual core script I understand the core will activate on demand. The thing is this only happens when the CPU becomes so over tasked by processes it create a short lag before kicking in. This script makes that laggy transition disappear. I would only recommend this script for people with the extended battery like me tho.

Obviously, lol... no "lag" or time needed to boot because its already always on...
Did you use the script editor in ROM toolbox to apply it, sealedfate? If so do you check apply on boot, or do you only use it when you see fit?

If you have a X2 now I would say you have to try them both. Run one for a couple of weeks do a nano back up and then try the other for a couple of weeks. Then you can decide which you like better. Or you can do like I did and just keep going back and forth every few weeks because you love them both
I have the script in system/ect/init.d so it applies on boot. Helps a hell of a lot with 3D games.

Actually, like I said in my first post, I'm been doing nothing but searching and reading on here for the past week or so. Eclipse 2.2 just dropped a week ago, so I was looking for fresh opinions from people who had tried CM7 and that version specifically.
I appreciate all the helpful comments from everyone though. I think I'll do like a few of you suggested and try them both eventually... starting with CM7.
Hopefully we can all add CM9 to the list of ROMs to try very soon!

Yep! I've been following his Twitter feed and the "CM9DX2 anticipation" thread on here. Can't wait to see how it goes. Sounds like he's REAL close!
Success! Following Moon Shadow's instructions to the letter, I successfully SBF'd back to 2.3.4, rooted, and installed CM7 without any problems whatsoever. CM7 is up and running! Just need to get my apps reinstalled and I'll be good to go. Man... you guys weren't kidding. The phone is SOOOO much faster/smoother now, it's not even funny. Should have done this a long time ago.
Thanks everyone!
OK, it appears that I spoke too soon. I realized soon after that the Google apps did not get loaded on my phone (Gmail, Maps, Nav, YouTube, etc.), but some of the other apps in that same ZIP file DID get installed (Talk). Also, my old background pic was still on the phone.
I was able to download/install the missing Google apps without any problem and they all work perfectly (including Nav from the car dock) - and everything else has been running flawlessly. The phone is very fast & smooth... no bugs... not a single force close or reboot yet after fairly heavy use for the last couple of days.
So... obviously something didn't go perfectly with my install, but as far as I can tell, everything is fine with the phone. How can I tell if I'm missing anything else? Should I just keep what I have or SBF back to 2.3.4 and start over again? I'm perfectly happy with it right now - but maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

Not sure how anyone might be able to tell you what you might be missing on your phone. It is pretty basic what you get, not a lot of bells and whistles put in by default.
Not aware of a comprehensive list of what you should have exactly.
