[Q] Bricked Samsung Tab 10.1 HELPPPPP - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, today I thought I would venture into the world of custom roms. Since Samsung has failed to release an update I was planning on adding ics. I went to root device and completely wiped everything. I have managed to flash clockworkmod but have no roms on sdcard to install onto device. Now i have a tab with zero software. I have a stock 3.2 honeycomb, and the new AOKP 32. is there anyway to flash these through Odin without having them on sd card already? If not what should I do?
Please help lol.

If you can get in Odin just flash the stock rom from ( samfirmware ) and then redo the ROM installation. Hope it helps

I am completely new. I have clockworkmod on tab. thats it. I have odin on computer. How do I go about flashing that way. I am really over my head here lol. I know when i flashed clockwork it was in pda section and those were tar files. is there a way to flash a firmware without it being on sdcard already and what file do i put through odin. I realize these are simple tasks and all could have been avoided but i missed a step

What tab do you have? Wifi only?

Samsung tab 10.1 4g GT-p7500 its on Bell.
I have clockworkmod installed with nothing else but it will connect to odin

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I found a 3.2 and flashed. What was throwing me off was the files i had were not tar or md5 but rather Rar.
Today was my first venture into android mods, i appreciate all the help. Currently running AOKP build 32 and loving it!

Don't let it discourage you, we all go thru panic moments! Have fun

[Q] [nOOb Q] Semi bricked phone stock -> CM7.1-> ICS-> CM7.1 -> Bricked

Hi there, please go easy on me. I did search XDA, googled other places and tried other things but getting the same. I am coming from iOS, got SGS2 and played a bit with it. Decided to flash new ROM as samsung stock was slow.
1. Rooted my phone with SuperOneClick.
2. Installed ClockWorkMod.
3. Downloaded CM7, put it onto my SGS2 and installed with ClockWorkMod (volume up+power+home)
4. Went further and got mysellf Simplistic ROM ICS XXLPB installed it with ClockWorkMod
5. Wanted to go back to CM7 so tired installing it with ClockWirkMod but something went wring and I ended up with sem-bricked SGS2
Whenever I fire up the phoone, the battery logo appears but is doesnt show itis charging. When I connect to KIES is isnt connecting the only (good) thing is I can put it in a download mode and Odin sees it so I caan try flashing it but whotever rom I am flashing in, I am getting the same "Invalid MD5 value."
I wanna go back to stock rom ERA PL (I9100XXKE4 ERA 05.2011 2.3.3) when I unrar it i got the following files, seems like PIT file is missing. Have a look at the attached. How do I restore my phone with ondin?

Pit comes with each firmware but onSGS2 so far i believe its the same one . Details are on the site you got firmware from follow their instructions .
PIT file is not required and its dangerous for noobs to use .
Invalid MD5 value.
Two reasons why One bad download file corrupted or Two the more usual user is not following the instructions and making their own up .
jje
Thank you for your invaluable help.
can flash cm7 GT-i9100G ????
Go to intratech's thread about firmwares and download from there. And don't use PIT. You don't need it.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 won't boot. Recovery mode not accessible.

Hi all!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which I since a week cannot start. It get stuck on the black/white samsung logo. I cannot enter recovery mode, nothing happens when releasing the power button after pressing volumeup+home+power buttons. I can however reach download mode. I'm not sure what caused this problem, one day I just couldn't start it. I read on forums that many similar problems seem to have occurred when upgrading android but I'm not sure this is the case here (unless the phone made an automatic update while I was asleep). I'm not sure what version of android I'm running, but I'm pretty sure it is at least the ICS.
I would like to hard reset my phone if possible. It seems to be easiest through the recovery mode which I cannot get into.. I read things about Odin, connecting the phone to the computer and downloading android to the phone but haven't quite grasped it. Could anyone explain this option for me or point me in the right direction? Are there other options?
I would appreciate any help, especially since my 1-year warranty expired a month ago!
Best regards,
Marcus

Sounds like the symptoms of a NAND RW corruption. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
Hi Marcus,
I had the same problem few days back.
If it's not broken by you trying something fancy, the best solution is to take it to service centre. If you have rooted your device, had installed some custom firmware or are not willing to visit the service centre for some other reason, please read ahead.
All I did was,
Installed USB connectivity drivers through Kies.
Installed ODIN 1.83
Ensured that Kies or any of its processes are not running in background.
Downloaded the official SGS2 firmware
Flashed the firmware through ODIN.
It took around 10 minutes for the full process and I was having my mobile up and running. Using ODIN sounds scary initially if you haven't used it. I have slowly started gaining confidence in it after using it a few times.
Please note that though the process is well proven to be safe, there is still an amount of risk involved.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Download a siyah kernel(like v4.0.1) .tar file and flash through odin.
See if that makes it boot/lets you into recovery.

both when trying to flash the recovery package and the kernel. Any clues?
mananbdesai: where do I find the "official SGS2 firmware"?
theunderlining: is it enough just to flash a new kernel or do I afterwards need to flash ROM too?

A couple of things..ensure KIES is not running on your computer in the background. If possible delete it completely. Also ensure your phone is connected to a USB port directly on the computer and not via a hub or to a USB port on a keyboard or something. Odin is a finicky s/w..so..
Also, try different versions. If v1.85 doesn't work try v3.4

Go to sammobile.com or a sticky in the Original Android Development section here..has links to all the stock firmwares.

Lol at underlining. if you flash a custom kernel like siyah, you'll be rooted and get CWM. Using that you can install a custom ROM.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
And youll be safe from the 4.0.4 brickbug if you flash siyah.
You flash a kernel for various reasons like it has emmc cap disabled, you can tweak it etc.
You can flash siyah kernel and stop there.Or you can move onto a custom rom.
Whatever, when its done-backup your efs and make a nand backup.
And yesterday I was downgrading my wifes phone onto 4.0.3.I was using odin and kept getting "failed".After 3 attempts I realised I hadnt put the phone into download mode..........how stupids that......lol
hi there, just wondering, after Flashing the stock firmware through ODIN, do you lose everything in your phone? i need to get all the notes that I have in my phone (notes from the samsung stock apps). I dont have any external sd card in the phone. thanks in advance for the reply.

I had a similar problem, stuck at boot with Biftor v12, which happened after I tried to update SuperSU binary through CWM/TWRP. I don't know why it stuck at boot and why it wouldn't reboot to Recovery. Download mode was still working, so I had no choice but to flash new kernel through ODIN and see if it works.
So if your symptoms sound similar to mine, here's what I did to be able to boot again:
I REPEAT, SIMILAR TO MINE. MY SOLUTION MIGHT NOT NECESSARILY APPLY TO YOURS.
1. Download a suitable kernel in tar.md5 format. I used PhilZ-cwm6 v4.93.6 for XWLSN firmware (see OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270)
2. Download ODIN, if you don't have it, found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
3. Once installed, boot your phone in Download mode by pressing Vol Down+Home+Power together until you see a warning dialog. Press Vol UP to get into download mode.
4. Make sure ODIN is running, and NO KIES processes are running.
5. Connect your phone with USB cable to your PC.
6. In ODIN, you should see a COM port with yellow background.
7. Click the PDA button ONLY.
8. Select the kernel file you downloaded.
9. Press Start and nothing else.
10. If everything went as expected, your phone should reboot after a while with a working Recovery.
Only do the steps if you are absolutely sure. This worked for me, and I hope it gives some tips for your problem as well.

Hi Flash-IS-Bright
I have the exact same problem with SuperSU on my rooted Galaxy S2. I updated the SuperSU app, and when I opened it, it recommended me to update the binary, I selected the CWM/TWRP option and then my phone tried to reboot but is now stuck. It can only access download mode.
In doing the process above, you only flashed the kernel? Did this totally work? And all your apps/messages were left intact on your phone?
Any help is appreciated.

when ur updating the binary u should always choose the 'Normal' thing instead of the 'CWM/TWRP' one ma8
if u flash a kernel it will not delete anything on ur phone, all u have to do is to select the right kernel like 'Philz' for example (if ur on a stock JB firmware) and flash the same through 'ODIN' and reboot ur phone

Thanks for your help. I've originally had Jeboo 1.2 kernel on my phone and tried to reflash that again through Odin. It passed, however I'm still encountering the same problem of the bootloop.
Would flashing a different kernel help? I'm on stock JB firmware but with a Jeboo kernel. I am happy to try another kernel (if that would not brick my phone)
Do you have any other suggestions to help me solve this?
Again thanks for your help

You could try flashing hawkerpaul's kernel wiper first and then install another stock kernel like PhilZ or Apollo, and see if that helps.
Neat Rom lite, suddenly struck in boot loop after 1 month of operation.
Dear All,
I have installed the "I9100XWLSZ_NeatROM_Lite_v5.0.1" custom rom and after 1 month of successful usage, today suddenly the phone was dead.(probably due to autoupdates over wifi) . I tried to reboot, but didnt. Tried to restart but got stuck in the logo screen with yellow triangle.
Tried to enter recovery mode, but no use. Only download mode is possible.
Tried to flash the stock rom using odin, but no use, Nand write failed.
Can somebody help me how to come out of this situation. Shall I install a different kernal and see?
Regards,

[Q] I think I've stuffed up "Badly"!!

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this Forum and very new to Android. I have the Galaxy S2 and while attempting to install Clock Work Mod, following the instructions from GalaxyS2Root, all of a sudden the phone locked up at the Samsung Galaxy S2 sceen with the yellow exclamation mark and that's as far as I got.
With great difficulty, I can get into the recovery screen, but I haven't got a clue, what I can do from here.
Is the phone recoverable, or have I just destroyed a brand new phone? I don't have a rom zip on my sd card, so I couldn't install a new rom from the card.
I have tried everything to get it going again, but I think the more things I try, the worse it gets. I think I have now wiped the existing rom off completely and wiped the caches, all because I was panicing.
I even thought of removing my sd card, putting it into my wifes Galaxy Ace and downloading a replacement rom to it and then try to install the new rom back to my phone.
But guys, I'm really panicing here and don't know what to do!!
Can anybody please help me out, or do I now throw a brand new phone into the garbage?
Thank You.............dixie (Help Please)

Just flash a new firmware via odin.It will be new again
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hello,
You could try downloading the rom required and install using odin.
You will need to make sure you get the right version for your phone and use odin to flash.
I've not done exactly what you have before I got into a simple boot loop and had to re flash. Live and learn I guess!

Thanks for your reply,
But how do I connect my phone to Odin and what menu should the phone be in, in the recovery mode?
Doesn't the phone have to be in the download mode?
I can only seem to get into the basic recovery mode, ie volume up + power + home keys.
Regards..............dixie.
Have you tried to get into download mode (volume down + home + power)?
You should be able to do that if you can get into recovery. Once in download mode, connect to your PC, start Odin and choose PDA, then select the tar that you have downloaded (it will be in zip form until you unpack it).
Read some threads about Odin/Download mode before you start and make sure you are happy to proceed.

O'k I did as you told me, but the first strange thing is, when I extract the zip file I get the following: boot.bin, cache, factory fs, hidden, modem.bin, param.lfs, Sbl.bin and zImage.............there is no exe type file!!!
However if I open odin, click on PDA and enter the whole zip file location and press start, everything goes ahead as planned.
I get a "Pass" and the phone restarts, I get the small tune and the blue moving lights on the screen, but then it just jams up, on the S Samsung Galaxy S2 screen. That's as far as the boot sequence goes.......frozen on the Galaxy S2 Screen!!
Any suggestions?
Regards......................dixie.
Pull out the battery, wait a few seconds replace and try to boot again. If that doesn't work, check you have the correct firmware to flash and try again with Odin.
Or have a look at this thread:

Right, for starters you need to give relevant information if you expect accurate help otherwise you're going to end up screwing your device up.
Which model of S2 do you have?
Which rom do you have? (give link)
Which guide did you follow? (give link)
If you can get into cwm its just a case of "wipe data/factory reset" and then flash custom rom of your choice from sdcard. Just go into cwm>mounts&storage>mount USB (this will mount cards onto PC if connected) so once connected copy your rom across.
I recommend the new wannam lite rom if you want new samsung JB based rom.
If you want to flash via ODIN then you should only be flashing a .tar or .md5 file in PDA section. If your extracting a zip and you get all the files you mentioned in your above reply then you have wrong file.

O'k thank you for your reply and thank you to the others that replied.
I was using an incorrect rom to flash and an incomplete rom at that!
I downloaded a different rom, extracted the files and flashed with odin. Now I am up and running and have the phone back to full woking order.
That was pretty scarery stuff and I thought I had bricked the phone for ever, I guess a little knowledge is helpful but dangerous, if one isn't sure of what they are doing.
Thank you once again for your help, it was much appreciated. I'll contact you again no doubt, next time I create a stuff up.

Hi Guys, one last request. I would like to root the phone and after a considerable amount of reading/research, the root file that I require, seems impossible to find. When I do find it and download, the .rar file is empty except for a zImage file!!!
My phone is the Galaxy S2 i9100 running ICS 4.0.3 Baseband Version i9100XXLPQ Kernel Version 3.0.15-i9100XXLPQ-CL223505 Build Number IML74K.XXLPQ.
I bought this phone, while I was visiting China and it has been great, up until I managed to brick it by accident.
Anyway, I apparently need the CF Root for XXLPQ v5.4, which I have downloaded six times, from various sites and every time I extract, it's empty, except for an image file!!!
I live in Australia and use the Telstra Network.....should I change to a more suitable Firmware, or maybe a stable custom rom, or can someone give me a link, for the appropriate working CF Root file?
Much Appreciate and Thank You........dixie.
Ignore the above post guys, a little more reading and I found my mistake.
However, I am still interested in the suggestion of a Custom Rom, which would work successfully, on Australian Networks.

I'm still new myself here but i'm sure ur phone is already rooted from what u said above. When u boot into recovery does stock recovery load or CWM ? if anything other than stock Samsung recovery then your already rooted.
Also u dont need to unzip the rar file its ready as is.
If ur phone is actually not rooted by far the easiest method is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
u dont need an insecure kernel and theres no risk involved even if u mess up. I was a lil hesitant to root my phone but used that method and all went fine, now i've learned so much in the past 2 weeks i'm flashing other kernels and tried lots of roms.
Peace

Yes thanks for the reply. I discovered that I didn't have to extract the root file, as it was already a .tar (stupid me).
So now I have a rooted phone and the Official ICS version XXLPQ, which is working in Australia, but I have noticed, that most of the time the Network is showing "edge".
All I really have to find now, is a good, stable, custom rom, that will also work in Australia.
A couple of observations....
You don't need "a good stable custom rom that will also work in Australia". Region has nothing to do with how a rom performs/your experience with that rom. If you're having issues with connectivity/you're not happy with data speeds, flashing/trying other modems may help. I suggest you read through this thread, at various times people have discussed which modems have worked well with different carriers (particular modems seem to work well for most people using a particular carrier). You can then search for CWM flashable versions of these modems & test them out until you find one that gives you connectivity you're happy with.
The other observation is you're a bit lacking in the 'basics'. I highly recommend you take the time to read through the guides. Knowing the basics makes it less likely you'll bork your phone at some stage, and that you'll be able to solve any problems that come up in a methodical/logical way (as opposed to guessing).
........a bit!!!!!!
Since you are on 4.0 3 ,why don't you flash the official jelly bean XXLS8 update via odin? Than root it with cf root

Use Siyah kernel v6 beta4 instead.

[Q] Ruined my phone...hardbrick?

Hello, I got rly annoyed by CM 10.1 on my galaxy s2. So I decided to get 4.1.2 back. I've noticed, that my PC doesn't recognize my phone in ANY usb port. So I tried to restore backup i've made week ago...and now, my phone just turns on to moment, where's that "Samsung Galaxy s2" screen, and nothing more. I can go to the recovery mode, anyway... what should I do? I just want normal 4.1.2 w/o any CM
Download rom again , install it, restore from backup system and data and voilĂ  everyrhing is normal
Edit : put .zip file from rom you wanted using a sd card to usb adapter

The problem is, I can't find normal 4.1.2 rom, everything is custom or for Odin :/
There is a thread that has stock rooted 4.1.2 jb roms that you can flash through cwm .
This one cant post link sorry
Oh thanks... can I install XXMS1 if I have XXLS8?
Yes. Download what you want for your area and flash. Easy as that dont thank me thank @Sofos. He a top man for doing this. Remember its rooted stock so not completely stock but no difference really. I would go for lsw

[Q] Flash went wrong... Somebody please answer.

Hi, Sorry to post here, but there isn't a section for the 8.9 tabs. That I found.
Ive been trolling all night and morning here and other sites trying to find a solution to my problem, and apparently from what I've seen, no one seems to get an answer to this question or the same for the 10.1 tab
I have The Galaxy Tab 8.9 SGH i957D (Telus) LTE 4G.
Using both Odin 3.7 and 1.83 I have tried to root using SGH-rooted-kernel-V2 from a couple of sources and all I get on reboot is the 2 splash screens, then it just sits on a black screen with the backlight on.
After a few attempts with either version of Odin, I tried CWM recovery, this flashed successfully also, and I can get into CWM recovery and Download mode, but still cannot get past the splash screens.
I have tried the stock ROMs a couple of times and different custom images (DaGrootkernel, DaGOCkernel), but still can't get past the splash screens. My battery drained over night, and I have it charging now in download mode, as otherwise it just loops continuously buzzing and lighting up, but still the same issue, I can't even turn it off as it just reboots as soon as I try.
From what I've seen on here, there are a few of us that need a solution to basically the same issue.
Please... Could one of the gurus on here give some advice as to what us noobs need to do with our semi bricked tabs?
Thanks.

Thanks, I'll have a look there. Just flashed successfully with Odin 3.7 and openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-sgh-i957.tar. open recovery work great, but still no boot past the splash screens.
the file you used is only for changing your recovery leaving your android os wonky. find a original stock rom for your tablet and flash that with odin...that will bring all back to stock. then you can reflash the custom recovery and then install custom roms if you want
simple way of understanding android is to think of it as a pc
recovery = bios
stock or custom rom = windows..linux..etc...
hope this helps

Thanks a lot, that actually cleared things up a bit. Can I read the recovery off my wife's identical tablet and use that? Can that be done with Odin, or what would I need to read that?
Thanks.

This is the stock flash/rom for Telus on the SGH i957D LTE 4G 8.9 model. Try samsung-updates.com and search for your exact model and carrier.
-Download correct stock image for your tablet.
-Unpack the file you downloaded
-Put your device in DOWNLOAD mode
-Connect it to Computer
-Start ODIN and wait for the COMM status to show as connected
-In PDA box navigate to your file and add it to the box.
-Press start
-Sit back and relax.
-Enjoy the fireworks as your tablet comes back to life..
-YEAH!!!
Life is good again...
