[Q] Bricked Nook Tablet 16bg. - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hello all I was hoping I could receive some assistance regarding my Nook Tablet. Yesterday I tried to upload CM7 onto it and in my haste I may have bricked it. I first put CWM on my sd card and booted into that and then in turn tried to put CM7 onto my Nook. I hit install CM7 in CWM and after it installed the screen when black yet still had a glow indicating it was on. I proceeded to let it just sit all night and in the morning it was dead. Now the problem has come that it doesn't seem to want to turn on. I've charged it all day and it still says that it doesn't have enough battery to turn on. I've searched the fourms on how to do a factory reset and they all seem to be good options. The problem I'm having though is that I can't even get my Nook to turn on to even try these options. I've even done hold the power button and N button method but again it just tells me it needs to charge more. Any help would be appreciated. Apologize if forgoing any fourm rules this is my first post and kinda worried about my Nook. Thanks again.

Make sure it's being charged by the official Nook AC adapter.

It is in fact being charged by the Nook charger. The thing is I'd love to try these factory resets I just can't seem to get past nook isn't charged.

with the usb cable plugged into the pc, it will ( should ) get a trickle charge.
.
sorry if you know this ( gotcha ) already. power is a 'software/logic' button. sometimes it'll look like its off when ( in fact ) it is "not" off. . i think you can see the display back light glowing if you look at it with a sharp angle. if you see a glow its hung in a false off...

I have gotten it to in fact turn on now, but it still hangs at the black glow screen after seeing read forever.

Well nevermind it ended up turning off again and I've come full circle with it.

Well I have ended up fixing it by doing the factory reset until it worked! Sorry for making a some what pointless thread was just a very worried nook owner. And again thanks for the insight on everything.

Glad you fix it,please add SOLVED tag to the OP title

[Q] Bricked

I had an interesting scenario yesterday - using a CM9 nightly from about 3 or 4 nights ago. My TP had notification lights flickering away and had been sitting for the evening. I put it on charge and forgot about it for an hour or so. I decided that I'd grab the latest nightly and install, so after downloading, I pressed the power on button for the TP. The notification flashing went out and that was it, goodnight TP.
After lots of button press combos and connecting to the PC etc., I decided to pull the casing off and try pulling the battery to see if that would help. It didn't.
After a lot of charging, I even put the multimeter on the battery terminals and it read 3.6-something volts, so it appears to have charge, but no response at all. I get Android Phone->ADB drivers installed and active, but adb won't see any device.
So... like some others here, my TP won't recover from any of the 'usual' recovery efforts (yep, tried the doctor too). I don't think there's any miracle solution, but if there is one I'd be happy to hear about it.
Given that I've opened the case (which is obvious), has anyone had any experience with out-of-warranty unbricking from HP? How much do they charge etc?
I'd like to hear from anyone who has gone from hard brick to operational out-of-warranty.

[Q] Nook tablet possibly bricked? Just a black screen, tried everything. Help!

Little background of what happened. I was stupid enough to try to restore my 8gig Nook tablet from 1.4.3 to 1.4.0 using the stock firmware from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190 My device got to the part where it says “Please DO NOT turn off your device…..installing new software” Right as it was about to finish, my Nook tablet just shut off and wouldn't come back on ever since. I tried everything from fully charging it just in case the battery died and did the hard/soft reset, but still nothing works. I would like to say that my Nook is bricked, but I haven't found anyone online that have experienced the same thing when their Nooks were bricked. Anyone with a solution to my problem please help!!!
Ouch! Missed the warning that it wasn't for the 8GB? Ouch again! I feel for you! I really do!
Does it react at all to your turn on/off attemptes? What I'm after is if it's totally dead ot "just" dark. Any light flickers r dark grey instead of full black?
I don't have any set solution even if it does react, but that could at least be a starting point for some sort of solution.

Unfortunately no reaction at all. Just a black screen and no lights.
This probably won't do any good at all, but what do you have to loose?
Download the first download mentioned in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836
and burn the repart.img to sd
Unhook the NT from the charger, insert the card and reconnect it to the charger and keep your fingers crossed. I will keep mine as well!

[Q] Not Connecting or charging while on

Ok i rooted with sd_root_NT16or8gbV4_7 and have go launcher installed. This is my wifes nook so she might have installed something that is keeping it from working i plan to look at it closer tonight. My problem is that it will not connect to the computer and it will not charger while turned on with the wall charger or with the computer. If i turn the nook off it charges fine. When the nook is on the LED is green while in wall or computer. Power off and the led turns orange till its full then turns green. Ill post more info tonight but if youve had this problem please let me know what has helped you.

My nook occasionally does this also, but if the green light is on while charging its still charging the battery. Its not recommended to charge the nook while off(one reason why it will turn on while charging.)
ive left it plugged in over night with the screen off and powered on in the morning it was off and had no battery it had about 50% when i plugged it in.

Maybe just the root method not allowing it. Have you tried any other methods? If you have an SD cards around you can try making a boot able cm10 card and see if it charges. It won't affect any of your nook's internal settings, apps, etc.

Just write to an SD card and put it in your nook. If it charges from there then the root method you have is messed up. Make a backup and try another or a custom ROM.
maybe its been rooted for about 6 months though and this is a new problem within the last month. Thats the kicker i guess since it shouldnt update i dont know if there is a setting somewhere that would stop it from charging. Im going to look into the go launcher widges to see if one of them has that option first i think. ill update in about 8 hours once im home. thanks for your help though m8
ok im home and reset go launcher to stock form. my software version in 1.4.0 ota blocked.
still get a greed light on cord and its still not charging. also if i run NookHWTest and try to run the usb/charge it says that the cord is not connected

I found a few threads that suggested to restore back to factory reset and re-root your device. You can use a backup app like Titanium Backup to save all the apps, pictures etc.
Something in the /system directory gets messed up, but no one knows why.
My NT will only start charging if I turn the screen on after I plug it in, or plug it in with the screen turned on. After that, I can let the screen sleep, or turn it off right away.
If I don't do this, the light on the charger stays green and it won't start charging.
Connecting to the computer isn't affected by this, though.

well reset to factory and still doesnt charge while on. The cord works in the other nook so im going to say the port in the nook is going bad. On a side note went to [ROM]{WIP} SGT7+CM10.1+Cherry Picks,By meghd00t. 24/02/13 and it seems to be very stable so far compaired to the others ive tried in the past

Oh, you should have said something about it working with the other one. The ports for these can get messed up all the time. Happens a lot.
Turn the nook off when charging. This is a known bug.

Nook Tablet won't boot after 1.4.0 update.

I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong place, but because I have less than the 10 required posts I am not allowed to respond directly to the thread I needed. I wasn't really sure where to put this.
I've been trying to root my Nook Tablet to CM10 unsuccessfully. I found this http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2012/01/02/nook-tablet-rooting-guide-complete-walkthrough-video/ which led me to believe that downgrading to the 1.4.0 update would be helpful. :good:
I followed the link from this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190 and downloaded the .zip and put it on an mSD. I proceeded to place it in the tablet, turned it on, and the update went through and my screen went black. After a minute or so I hit the power on button, and nothing happened. Nothing works on it now. I've tried hitting the power button for 20+ seconds then the 2 seconds, as well as the power + N button. The screen remains black. I can connect the nook to my computer and the power cable lights up, as well as when it's placed on the wall.
The Nook Tablet (it's a BNTV250) isn't turning on and I'm kinda freaking out. I need to get it to work, and if there's anything you guys can do to help me I'd really appreciate it.

Can you enter to recovery mode or download mode? If not, you probably have a hard-brick.
Are you sure that the files you have downloaded are for your device (this is the cause of the hard-bricks)?

Looking over the link, saw something that I missed last night. "This is for the Nook Tablet 16Gig version only. Do not use with 8Gig version". Mine is the latter.
Well this sucks.
I can't enter any mode because the screen won't even light up. The only evidence that there's anything alive in there is that when I connect it to my PC I hear that the computer recognizes it, then unrecognize it. And the cable lights up. That's it.
Is there anything else I can do? I mean, I brick computers all the time but they never stay bricked. Why would the nook be so irreversible?
EDIT: I just tried the instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 and it just booted and is working its magic. Thanks! Super happy right now.

Nice to hear it!!

NT 8GB, Boot Loop

So, I have a Nook Tablet 8gb that's stuck in a boot loop. I was using it last night to read, decided to go to bed and plugged it into the charger. Upon plugging the tablet in, it powered off, tried to boot up again, and then powered off again. It's now stuck in a boot loop (only shows the 'n' screen for 1 second), and it only does this when plugged into the charger or my laptop. When I remove it from the usb cable, it doesn't even power on at all.
I tried calling the Barnes and Noble customer support, but being that my NT is 1.5 years old, it's now out of warranty and they apparently can't do anything for me. The guy tried walking me through some troubleshooting steps and ended up telling me that it's a hardware problem. Before I toss it out, I decided to check here.
I have looked at other posts and seen similar issues that have been posted about, but seeing as how my NT won't even turn on without being plugged into the cable, none of the fixes on here seem to have worked. I did try downloading the repart.img onto a sd card but I was still unable to get my NT to reset to factory settings.
I'm at a loss at what to do with this paperweight, and I can assure anyone reading this, that I will never own a Nook again because of the horrible customer support, and the fact that the one I had only lasted me 1.5 years. Please help if you can, thanks!
Ok, update to my NT situation... (FYI, this appears to be a h/w issue with my battery vice an Android OS issue)
Just to clarify, I'll give a little more information. I've been doing research all day on my problem, and I feel like I need to specify some things in case anyone else has a similar situation going on. After reading some other posts online, this is what the problem initially appeared to be...
My nook tablet's battery drained all the way to 0% before I plugged it in. After plugging it into the cable (via pc or wall outlet), the tablet would power on, show the 'n' screen for approx 1 second, and then power off. After about 5 seconds, it would power on again, show the 'n' screen, and power off again. Basically it was just stuck in a boot loop and did not seem to be charging up at all even though the indication on the cable showed it should have been charging. When I would unplug the nook from the cable, it would not turn on at all.
Possible solution #1... I read somewhere in a couple different posts that it could be just a battery issue caused by me letting it drain all the way down. Some people resolved their issues by removing the back from their tablets, unplugging the battery for 10 seconds, plugging it back in and then letting the tablet charge. (Removing the back and messing with your tablet's hardware will void the warranty!!!) After watching a couple videos about how to access the battery and remove it, I decided to unplug mine and give it a shot.
Results so far.... After plugging my battery back in, my NT has stopped going into the boot loop. I'm now getting the message to let it charge for 15 minutes and then try to power it on again. This is at least a different screen than the boot loop I was seeing, so some success... hoping in about half an hour I'll have even more success. I will update again when I see something different... crossing my fingers!!!
Yep, unplugging my battery did stop the boot loop, and my NT is now charging. I was able to turn it back on and it's now at the stock setup screen.
Even though no-one replied to the post, I'd still like to thank the Android gurus that do post here and help individuals resolve their problems. It seems like I'm always learning something new when I check out the forums. Please keep up the great work!
Now time to root and have some more fun!!!
