[Q] Nook tablet possibly bricked? Just a black screen, tried everything. Help! - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Little background of what happened. I was stupid enough to try to restore my 8gig Nook tablet from 1.4.3 to 1.4.0 using the stock firmware from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190 My device got to the part where it says “Please DO NOT turn off your device…..installing new software” Right as it was about to finish, my Nook tablet just shut off and wouldn't come back on ever since. I tried everything from fully charging it just in case the battery died and did the hard/soft reset, but still nothing works. I would like to say that my Nook is bricked, but I haven't found anyone online that have experienced the same thing when their Nooks were bricked. Anyone with a solution to my problem please help!!!

Ouch! Missed the warning that it wasn't for the 8GB? Ouch again! I feel for you! I really do!
Does it react at all to your turn on/off attemptes? What I'm after is if it's totally dead ot "just" dark. Any light flickers r dark grey instead of full black?
I don't have any set solution even if it does react, but that could at least be a starting point for some sort of solution.

Unfortunately no reaction at all. Just a black screen and no lights.

This probably won't do any good at all, but what do you have to loose?
Download the first download mentioned in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836
and burn the repart.img to sd
Unhook the NT from the charger, insert the card and reconnect it to the charger and keep your fingers crossed. I will keep mine as well!

Umm what do you mean by "missing an OS"??
Hi Scott,
which XDA do you have? Do you get an error message when the device starts up? I don't know if this would help since the talk at this link is specifically about upgrading to WM 2003 from PPC 2002 and obviously you would need to have the previous OS on the PPC. However if you have an XDA I, this might give you a basis to work off of.

Have a look in the Wallaby FTP folder as well:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wallaby/
Good Luck
basically i bought it off ebay knowing there wasnt an OS on it, when i received the phone i cant turn it on, so how do i put the OS back on the XDA?
its an XDA PW10A1
Pressing the power button and doing a soft reset doesnt work, in fact nothing does, i cant get to the bootloader as the phone doesnt even switch on. The only thing i do notice is when i press hard reset the light near the headphone jack turns red. And sometimes the power light will flicker red, but thats all it does.
Ive got a memory card and I can write to it, if someone can help me get this thing back up and running i would be extremely grateful.

The symptoms you are describing are very similar to those that appeared on my PW10A2 recently.
Try the following:
Put it in the cradle for quite a period, say 15 minutes or so. If it comes up with some screen (whatever) take it out of the cradle, press the power on button while doing a soft-reset simultaneously. When it then comes up with the wallaby bootloader you may have good chances.
I managed (with the help of this forum) to get a new ROM installed from the SD by this method.
ok ill try that! thanks
how did you get the OS rom back onto the XDA?
Also could I be missing the Bootloader on the XDA itself?
ok i tried what you said and nothing works i dont even get a screen flicker!
i really need help as i dont have a phone at the moment and need it for work.

Hmm. Shot in the dark:
Blown fuse on the main board?
Does the LED get lit in any color when you put it in the cradle?
How long did you leave it in the cradle?
Do you have access to another cradle?
yeh i get the charge light when it sits in the cradle (orange light). plus i have two cradles n they both "appear" to charge it. Ive left the phone in the cradle for a whole day and nothing.
Did you do a cold reset?
Does it react (go on) if you press the on-button when it sits in the cradle?
Did you try the soft-reset+Onbutton (enter Wallaby boot loader)?
I'm no expert. I'm only repeating what I learned so far here in this forum
no mate none of those methods work either!
i aint got a clue whats wrong with it!!

[Q] Bricked Nook Tablet 16bg.

Hello all I was hoping I could receive some assistance regarding my Nook Tablet. Yesterday I tried to upload CM7 onto it and in my haste I may have bricked it. I first put CWM on my sd card and booted into that and then in turn tried to put CM7 onto my Nook. I hit install CM7 in CWM and after it installed the screen when black yet still had a glow indicating it was on. I proceeded to let it just sit all night and in the morning it was dead. Now the problem has come that it doesn't seem to want to turn on. I've charged it all day and it still says that it doesn't have enough battery to turn on. I've searched the fourms on how to do a factory reset and they all seem to be good options. The problem I'm having though is that I can't even get my Nook to turn on to even try these options. I've even done hold the power button and N button method but again it just tells me it needs to charge more. Any help would be appreciated. Apologize if forgoing any fourm rules this is my first post and kinda worried about my Nook. Thanks again.
Make sure it's being charged by the official Nook AC adapter.
It is in fact being charged by the Nook charger. The thing is I'd love to try these factory resets I just can't seem to get past nook isn't charged.
with the usb cable plugged into the pc, it will ( should ) get a trickle charge.
.
sorry if you know this ( gotcha ) already. power is a 'software/logic' button. sometimes it'll look like its off when ( in fact ) it is "not" off. . i think you can see the display back light glowing if you look at it with a sharp angle. if you see a glow its hung in a false off...
I have gotten it to in fact turn on now, but it still hangs at the black glow screen after seeing read forever.
Well nevermind it ended up turning off again and I've come full circle with it.
Well I have ended up fixing it by doing the factory reset until it worked! Sorry for making a some what pointless thread was just a very worried nook owner. And again thanks for the insight on everything.
Glad you fix it,please add SOLVED tag to the OP title

[Q] Bricked 101 G8 - Time for a trip to the shooting range?

Hi all,
i just bricked my Archos 101 G8. I've selected "erase SD Card" in Gingerbread/Bull, after 36h of the circle of death, a turned it off, and that's it. If i plug it in, the green LED lights up, i can force-turnoff (10second powerbutton), but notting else. It's not visible in any way on USB (from an ubuntu-kernel-log).
Is there any chance to unbrick the sucker, or is it time to introduce my G8 to my G17 (later the one from Glock )...?
Greetings...

Can't you go into recovery by holding volume down and then power up?

Thanks for your answer. No, it won't even turn the screen backlight on, beside the powerled the sucker is dead :crying:
Hi,
Are you sure that your a101 is charged ? I've bricked my a43 five times yesterday. Last time, the tablet was ''empty''. Even the LED was "bricked" ^^. The solution was to connect the tablet to an USB/AC charger. After ten minutes, the LED was blinking, and 30 min later, i could access to recovery menu to re-install UrukDroid by flashing the installation kernel...
Try this method

Yeah, pretty sure, at least it was on the charger for a week, and it even was on the charger when i bricked it... I'm pretty sure i killed the flash by formating the SD Card, no idea why (i'm a newbie here, i'm not allowed to tell the Bull-Guys there might be a problem with the /dev/ thats formated when selecting Format SD Card inside Android Bull ... Well i guess i have to break out the torx and see if there's a JTAG in there...
And now, are you able to enter in the boot menu by pressing a volume key while you're power on it ? (On all first ARCHOS screen)
It's the only solution to repair it.
If you can't, i don't know other solutions

No, as i said, it won't even turn on after pressing the powerbutton, the green LED is the only thing that happens. No Display, no backlight, no nottin' .
Well, thank you very much anyway, i wasn't expecting that it can be fixed; i just wanted to be sure there's no USB-Flasher like there's for the newer Series or some supersecret UpUpDownLeftLeftReboot-Cheat code ...
I can't find my torx set at the moment, if i manage to revive the sucker somehow i'll report back, not much to loose at this point, jtag away

No jtag reachable, but maybe UART could help you. Here is a thread from scholbert http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199450
BTW we had the rawfs partition mounted in init.rc on /mnt/rawfs. Unfortunately I only noticed this after your post. I already pushed fixes for this to the git.
I hope you can revive your tablet again.

You might prefer to sell it's parts while they are stil valuable. People are looking for parts like LCD etc.

I was flashing back to original 1.4.3 rom and it finished install rebooted twice and then message came up saying the battery was to low to boot please try in 15 mins.

Nook Tablet won't boot after 1.4.0 update.

I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong place, but because I have less than the 10 required posts I am not allowed to respond directly to the thread I needed. I wasn't really sure where to put this.
I've been trying to root my Nook Tablet to CM10 unsuccessfully. I found this http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2012/01/02/nook-tablet-rooting-guide-complete-walkthrough-video/ which led me to believe that downgrading to the 1.4.0 update would be helpful. :good:
I followed the link from this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190 and downloaded the .zip and put it on an mSD. I proceeded to place it in the tablet, turned it on, and the update went through and my screen went black. After a minute or so I hit the power on button, and nothing happened. Nothing works on it now. I've tried hitting the power button for 20+ seconds then the 2 seconds, as well as the power + N button. The screen remains black. I can connect the nook to my computer and the power cable lights up, as well as when it's placed on the wall.
The Nook Tablet (it's a BNTV250) isn't turning on and I'm kinda freaking out. I need to get it to work, and if there's anything you guys can do to help me I'd really appreciate it.

Can you enter to recovery mode or download mode? If not, you probably have a hard-brick.
Are you sure that the files you have downloaded are for your device (this is the cause of the hard-bricks)?

Looking over the link, saw something that I missed last night. "This is for the Nook Tablet 16Gig version only. Do not use with 8Gig version". Mine is the latter.
Well this sucks.
I can't enter any mode because the screen won't even light up. The only evidence that there's anything alive in there is that when I connect it to my PC I hear that the computer recognizes it, then unrecognize it. And the cable lights up. That's it.
Is there anything else I can do? I mean, I brick computers all the time but they never stay bricked. Why would the nook be so irreversible?
EDIT: I just tried the instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 and it just booted and is working its magic. Thanks! Super happy right now.
