Hey everyone,
after putting a lot of thought into how to best backup my photos and videos while on the move, I decided that a tablet would be the best solution.
Now, I will shoot quite a lot of HD video in the near future, which means that even a 64GB tablet won't be large enough. Solution: Backup on a second SD-Card!
So right now I am waiting for the Acer A510 (with support for USB-OTG).
Can anyone tell me if a Dual-SD-Reader like the one linked below will be working on Android, so both SD cards can be mounted at the same time?
http://www.ginzzu.com/rus_level5_tab1.php?lang=NAME_ENG&ot=520&group=-1&oid=169&tab_id=-10
I know that I could also go SD->Tablet->Backup SD, but direct copy would make life much easier.
If anyone has experience with that setup, let me know!
Thanks alot!
Markus
On my Touchpad with CM9 and OTG support you can mount multiple mass storage devices using a USB hub. By default it will only mount one at a time but I use Drive Mount to mount multiple drives. Its free from Google Play but requires root and busybox.
The Acer may do things differently with USB and may auto mount multiple drives, I dont know for sure. As long as that card reader is compatible with Android it should work.

I just received my G Tab yesterday (non-woot) and so far I love it. I installed CWM then flashed Vegan. Something about it didn't feel right, so I switched over to TNT Lite 4.4. I also installed Launcher Pro and have figured out how to use it to customize my "desktop" a little. Basically I have a few random questions.
1) Is there a way to disable the "dock" screen?
2) Is there a way to disable the lock screen that comes up after the screen has turned off?
3) Any recommendations on a good replacement for MS Office that can open, edit, and create documents that are compatible with Office?
4) Any recommendations on a good remote desktop app I can use to access files and software on my laptop?
5) Any recommendations on a compact, portable, hopefully inexpensive Bluetooth mouse?
6) How do I copy files from my laptop to my external micro SD card? Do I have to put the micro SD card into my laptop, or can I leave it in the tablet and copy them somehow? When I plug the tablet into my laptop it only appears to give me access to the internal SD.
7) Any other random apps I should look into getting? I plan to use my G Tab to basically replace my laptop, which I only ever use for surfing the web, email, facebook, etc.
8) In particular, any particular apps I should get for playing video/audio files?
9) Is there a tutorial somewhere I can read about how to find movies and get them onto my tablet to watch?
Sorry to barrage you with so many questions. Feel free to answer none, any, or all of them! Thanks in advance for your help!!!
3) Any recommendations on a good replacement for MS Office that can open, edit, and create documents that are compatible with Office?
Documents to Go.
4) Any recommendations on a good remote desktop app I can use to access files and software on my laptop? Several search.

When I plug the tablet into my laptop it only appears to give me access to the internal SD. Easiest way is to insert uSD into laptop and copy files.
Lots of answers/ choices here best answer is search.
Easiest way to move files (other than sneakernet) is to install Dropbox.
I have a Canon EOS 350D which needs a driver on windows. Canon could solve this with a new firmware but this will not happen. If I have the usb adapter for the SGT is there a solution to copy photo's from the EOS? Or will I have to take the pcmcia card out to copy photo's?(and use a seperate reader).
Is this a strange Q? Or is it simple: If there doesn't exist an android driver for a external usb device you can't connect it?
It annoys me big time, I will own a nice piece of equipment like the tab, but have to carry a usb adapter, a usb cable and a cardreader with me, to transfer photo's from my camera when I'm on the road.(and the hassling with removing cards etc.)
I don't think there will ever be native support for proprietary drivers in Android. I'm no developer so I can't say if you could add support for that camera driver through an app but I don't think you'll get around the sd card reader + USB adapter combo for now.
If you can find Linux/Ubuntu support for it, you MIGHT be able to hack it in with an alternate kernel - but depending on the nature of the support method, the user interface may be suboptimal. (using shell commands to mount, etc.)
Edit: Check Themes and Apps section, new news. There's apparently now a "DSLR Controller" app, not sure how well this will work for you. I shoot Pentax so I can't test it.

If I can also copy photo's with it, it will be great. Thanks, I will check it out.
Hi everyone,
I've been searching for a solution to put together an Android based torrent server. Was wondering if anyone had any advice.
I've been using uTorrent on my Nexus 4 and it's a great little machine for that, but of course 16GB is a bit small for storage. I was looking at solutions like the ODroid to have a super low power system that could run 24/7.
I know that running torrents off an external USB drive is a good way to burn the drive out with all the accessing for seeding, etc... would there be able software solutions that would download torrents, seed them and when that quota is met move the files over to an external drive? Or would there be any way of connecting a drive via eSATA or something that would make the drive less susceptible to burning out?
I suppose I could just run an android device with a large microSD card and then manually move the files over. But it would be great to have an automatic solution.
Thanks for any advice!

check out the raspberry pi. A lot of people use it as a 24/7 downloading box/torrent server.

Hi,
I attach my Nikon D800 through an OTG. My phone finds my camera and I'm able to copy files on to my device, but I'm not able to browse my camera using a file explorer. How can I browse it normally through a file explorer?
The camera doesn't mount under /mnt/ as a normal USB mass storage unit since it's using MTP protocol.
I have an FTP program on my phone and need that to access pictures directly on camera and send them. To be able to do that I need to be able to browse the memory cards in my camera.
I know I was able to do this before, and as I have understood that was possible during android 3.1.x. Now I have 4.1.2 stock rom and not able to anymore.
Some help would be greatly appreciated since I'm dependent on being able to use FTP directly from my camera.
Thank you for any answers.
Best regards,
Trond
Do you have an I9100 ? Reason I ask is this device never got Android 3x. We went straight from Gingerbread (2x) to ICS (4x).
Edit to add -Also, a Google search (which frankly is better than XDA search) for 'I9100 XDA DLSR USB OTG' yields a bunch of threads here that could be useful to you. As this is something that very few people here would use (at least nowdays; it may have been more common when this phone was more widely used by people here), and as these forums don't see anywhere near as much traffic as they did even 12 mths ago, you might be waiting a very long time to have your questions answered. I'd suggest you mine those threads for any info which might be useful.
I would also like to copy pics from my d7100 to my s2 or nexus 7 using USB OTG..is that possible..thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Hi everyone,
I have a big problem with this box and I hope someone with experience will be able to help...
I got a 2TB hard drive to use as media storage (videos, music, pictures...) with my Mi box, but it seems there is no way I will be able to do that, I hope someone will prove me wrong.
What is possible is:
- for the box to hijack the whole drive, encrypt it and use it as internal storage. Unacceptable because I want to be able to use the drive with the data on other systems in case I want to transfer files (I don't even want to try transferring 2TB of data over wifi) and in case something happens to the box or I decide to upgrade to a different one, all my data would be lost.
- to use the external storage as read-only, which is useless, I might as well connect it to my TV then and play the contents...
I want to be able to download stuff to it in Android. For instance I could just remotely send torrent files to it while out and about and by the time I get home they would be downloaded. Or I can set all my pictures to be synced with a folder on that drive...
Regular versions of Android generally don't have a problem with this, but Android TV seems to lack the in-built Documents Android file manager functionality that allows for writing permissions once you select the drive (or an SD card) from within an app like Flud for example.
I was hoping upgrading to Nougat would fix this problem, but it seems it won't. The nVidia Shield has the same problem, but it's rootable and using the SDFix app when rooted saves the day.
Rooting would also allow me to use my PS4 controller with the box and other fun stuff, so I really wouldn't mind doing it, but a lot of people had bad experiences with rooting the Mi Box, so I would do it only if I'm sure it'll work.
Does anyone have any suggestions or is this a hopeless endeavour?
Thank you!
an app called airexchange allows you to access your tv box over your wi-fi and do anything you need, download, delete, move...this is the only and easiest way i found to transfer files from my mi box 4 to my pc. might help. just download and follow the instructions, super easy to use.
