Just an FYI to anyone that has thought about using SVOX but didn't want to pay for the voices. Or, if you use navigation/voice readout on your phone but don't like the standard Android voice.
IVONA speech engine is similar to SVOX but having used both, I think IVONA sounds better. Currently it is in beta and it can be had free from Google Play and the voices are also free.

The beta seems to work very well. Only bad thing is when downloading the voices it can take around 10min even on WiFi (guessing their server connections are not the greatest).
Not sure how long the beta will last so check it out while you can.
Using ivona on rooted stock causes my ringer to not work so have someone call you to make sure thats not happening to you.

My ringer seems to be working. I'm using the voice readout/ringer option for my calls and running rooted/unlocked stock. One thing that bothers me is when reading out a phone number that is not named in my contacts it reads it like a regular number (using the stock selection in settings). However, I set that to ring only and downloaded talking caller id from Play and it works fine that way.
Yea, I think my issue started when I switched from kendra to amy. The voices are awesome, just something to be careful about if a missed call becomes the end of the world.

I had this problem too. I noticed that I lost my ringer when I selected "always use my setting". I turned off that setting and got my ringer back.

I found after having this issue any time I selected a British voice on any text to speech engine it happened. sucks because they sound way better.

I unlocked my phone this weekend and am now running HomeBase Photon without blur. I installed ivona voice and have not had an issue with my ringtone. I am wondering if the issue has anything to do with motoblur.

Having a problem making calls. When I dial via Google Voice, or by clicking a number in my browser, a +1 gets added to the number, and as a consequence I get an error stating the network is busy. If I delete the +1 before dialing I have no problem connecting.
I've played with various options that I found, to no avail.
I'm running Liquid Gingersense 1.6 (happened on 1.5, too), and I honestly can't remember if it happened on my stock 2.2.1
any help?
Try disabling assisted dialing?
Settings---call---assisted dialing. Unchecked the box. Not sure if you have to reboot or not.

Did that..no luck..

Seems its an issue with the Google voice app, since it never does that via my sense dialer. Maybe copy the number, then paste it into a text message or another app that parses, and dial from there?

Do you have Facebook syncd up? All contacts imported from Facebook will have +1 and therefore not let you call or text that #
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Google Voice tends to do that because it treats all calls as international calls. If you log into your google account online you can disable this by making a call online. Your phone will sync your preferences from there.

So just place a call from within GV on my computer? I don't need to change any settings? Can I enter a # to dial or do I need to select one from my contacts?
That's what it looked like when I was on there

That's weird but it worked. Actually, it stills adds 1 but not the +, and that's corrected the issue.

I am also having the same problem. The only work-around that I know of is to select 'ask every time' under the Google voice option.
I believe the roms that aren't based off of Samsung's has the Voice working properly.
It's working fine for me, but there is a big glitch. If you go to Google Voice app settings and choose to make all calls using google voice it works. When making calls from the touchwiz phone it says it's making the call using google voice. The big issue is that everytime I make a call (to the same number) it shows in the call log as if I've called a completely different random number (presumably the google server the call is actually sent from).
Upgraded to the AT&T stock ROM till a JB ROM comes out.
On GB the turn by turn voice was kind of female and of good volume, now it's some soft spoken British guy. Nothing against the Brits but how do I change the voice?
Thanks,

I just looked and it doesn't seem as if this is possible. I also checked the website to see anything about the updated voice but got no info....
Thanks for the confirmation. I was worried I was posted a stupid "everyone knows the solve" question.
Thanks for your time, very appreciated!

My voice is still a female on ICS

Google navigation requires the TTS voice match the phone language. Android settings > language & input > select language
If you have various TTS engines installed you can select them on the same language & input menu. The Rogers ICS ROM only comes with the default Google TTS engine.
I checked and it is set for English American, no ability to download language packs.
Maybe try British?
Well thanks all.

I don't know if it is the Note, ICS, or just the lack of quality TTS engines but voice choice we do not. Google TTS just sucks and you can't change anything about it. I used to use Loquendo but it is not supported in ICS yet. I just tried Ivona (Kendra voice) TTS and it is a great improvement. The app is free and the voice is a free beta at the moment. I also heard SVOX is good too.
But if you want to change your navigational voice seems the only way is with changing phone language or by changing your TTS engine.
First of all I believe this ROM is the bomb; finally have ICS on my TB. The only problem I am having is getting the Google Voice dialer to work with my bluetooth earpiece Plantronics M1100. When I double tap the earpiece the GV dialer pops up, I hear a double beeb and then nothing.
Anyone else having this problem and have you had it resolved. Thanks guys.
There seems to be Bluetooth problems with this Rom. I've read that formatting in EXT3 resolves this issue? I'm not positive though.

I attempted reformatting with EXT3 and still have the same problem.
Thanks for the advice; it was worth the try

The Bluetooth issue isn't a result of the file system, it's the kernel. In other words, we will have to wait for liquid to release a more stable version of his kernel. I use my Bluetooth a lot as well, and as a result I have to deal with the same issues. I've had issues where no audio streams through the Bluetooth headset, but when I toggle from Bluetooth headset to speaker and back to Bluetooth, I miraculously get audio.
P.S. the radio's won't fix that either.
Thanks for the update. I just hope Liquid can get it going quickly.
This is a slick ass ROM and would really like to continue using it.

Voice Dialer Problem with ICS....a work around
While I could get Bluetooth audio to work on several Thunderbolt ICS Roms, I could not get the voice dialer via the bluetooth headset to work. I tried using several apps to resolve this issue and finally found one! Try using the app called "Voice Control Full" and it works perfectly! The app is $1.99 for the full version and there is even a trial version I believe called "Voice Control Trial". This works way better than the stock Android dialer - much more accurate! Good luck!
I attempted the use the Voice Control Full app; it would not wake the phone up via Bluetooth.

Google voice isn't give me voicemail notifications and app settings are fine. In voicemail settings, it says iconditional forwarding unsuccessful. I tried that manual way where it starts with **004 but that didn't make a difference. Any ideas? Thanks.
I still don't think this has been resolved, or really even addressed, yet.

It's funny how GV App has remain buggy and featureless. I wonder why the hell Google doesn't fix it and gives it a major overhaul like all their other apps. Like for instance I've always wondered why don't they include in-app purchasing capabilities for when you want to top off your account for international calling.... that's just messed up.
Google should really pay attention to that app, many people use this service and deserve something better.
GV works fine for me. You need to be post-paid. Pre-paid doesn't have call forwarding.
I have post paid
So do I, so that's certainly not the issue.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I got it to work by manually doing call forwarding to my GV number, only to see it switch back a couple days later. I believe it had to do with using T-mobile's WiFi calling, but I can't say for certain.
