installing gapps - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do you install the gapps? Is there a clear guide?

Once you managed to get clockworkmod recovery to run (saw your other thread "What after HTC Dev unlocking"), it's the same like installing custom roms.
Put the (gapp) zip on sdcard, boot to recovery and choose "install zip from sdcard".
So what rom du you use or plan to use?

If you install CyanogenMod or one rom based on-, go to wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps and choose the relevant zip file regarding your version.

I'm using the ICS Rom. I download the correct gapps in the thread. If i do 'install zip from sd-card'. He says: 'installation aborted'..

anyone, who can help me?

Are you sure your zip file isn't corrupted?
Is this the complete error message you get?
I read of many people who got bootloops after installing gapps on ics (when not following some kind of installing order), but no one with such an error....

[Q] LG LS840 Needing to flash GAPPS

I rooted my LG Viper, having problems with the Play Store, now the only option I haven't done was flash the GAPPS package...... There isn't a custom recovery for this phone yet, & can't to find a way to unlock the bootloader either.
Was wondering would someone know a way I could install the GAPPS package on my phone without causing anymore problems?
A recovery is built! flash it download the latest gapps flashable zip, reboot into recovery go to mounts in recovery, mount system, go back to install zip find the gapps package wherever you downloaded it to the sd card choose it flash it and reboot. Let me know how it works out for ya!

[Q] install new CWMrecovery on 2.3.5

Hi folks,
I'm trying to get a new custom recovery on my phone. Im on FW 2.3.5.
I've downloaded Rom Manager, and all looks fine. When i try to boot into recovery mode to install a custom rom it doesnt say cwm recovery... it says Android recovery.... and i cant install a custom rom from there. Yes. My phone is rooted, and i granted Rom Manager SU access
It says in red..... E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
I'm sure if i first upgrade my FW to ICS or JB then there would be no problem.
However. Im affraid that if i update, my touch wont work. I broke my phone 2 months ago, and got it repaired. But the touch wouldnt work unless they downgraded it to 2.3.5. (a mainboard issue due to custom rom. They said)
I really want to try to have a custom rom and see if the touch works in here, or if im stuck using FW 2.3.5
Do i need a new kernel where the CWM recovery is already included or what?
Model: GT-I9100
Current kernel: XWKI8
Edit
Is it possible for me to flash with a custom rom differently?
Maybe connect to Odin and press the "phone" button and choose a custom rom? Or another program.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but im kinda new to this

Don't use ROM Manager, as it is not fully compatible with our phone.
You have to flash a kernel containing the CWM recovery you want/need, or alternatively you can flash only the (temporaily) CWM recovery.
Have a lok here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105
In first post Method 1 > Instruction 2.
Just download and flash "cwm-touch-6.0.1.2-i9100.zip" in stock recovery:
1. Put the previously downloaded cwm-touch-6.0.x.x-i9100.zip file on your external sd card.
2. Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power), and select "apply update from external storage". Now select the cwm-touch-6.x.x.x-i9100.zip file you copied in previous step (this step gives a temporary flash that will disappear after reboot)
You get CWM recovery interface (this custom recovery is temporary, not permanent)
3. Inside CWM, select "install zip from sdcard". Then, select "choose zip from sdcard". Now, scroll down to the custom ROM zip file and hit power button to install it.
Good luck !

Venom Installation Problems

{Possibly SOLVED}
Moved from Development Thread.

Installation errors.

What happens is when you get it all setup for the install, and you go and install it, it only wipes the system partition, (appears to anyway). and that is all it will do. I tried it on CWM first, then I saw that it said to use TWRP so I switched and it did the same thing. It did actually extract the files when I switched to TWRP the first time I tried to install it, then it was in a boot loop (I did flash the boot.img) and tried to re-install it. But it did the same thing it did in CWM.
I had the same issue. Both cwm and twrp would only wipe but not install. I got the Rom to install by flashing infernal kernal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39831357 first. It also contains the boot.IMG then flashed viperlte. I also verified md5's to before and after transfering to my sd card. Now I got it up and running with no issues.

Thanks, I'll try that and see what happens.

Watch out, TWRP wipes can wipe your internal SD card without warning. (When using the Factory Reset) unlike CWM recovery.)
--
EDIT: WORKS. Use infernal 4.1 kernel instead of stock kernel if your phone goes into a bootloop. And use TWRP 2.3.3.0.
Hey,
Is there any known reason that the newer TWRP (2.5) doesn't work?
Also, Because I am so new to XDA, I'm not able to suggest this in the development section but it seems to me that the step two on the second post of the thread concerning this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891202) could specify TWRP 2.3 i.e. instead of saying,
"2 Install a custom recovery. (twrp) "
It could say,
"2 Install a custom recovery. (twrp 2.3)"
Venom will only install on S-off with absolute stock ROM with root. If you have ever installed a JB rom, you cannot roll back to ICS with Venom. Download the stock RUU image, rename to PJ53DIAG.zip and initiate update. Reroot, reflash custom recovery, the bootloader will remain unchanged.
OR..the OBVIOUS & SIMPLEST method!
Restore from your ORIGINAL & first system nandroid. Then flash not just Viper but any ICS custom ROM using Aroma installer.

Twrp has aroma problems, mdmower posted the fix on venom thread and looks like nuts never updated, if you push mdmowers fix into venom zip it will work

[Q] Trouble in installing Gapps on CM11

Hello people,
3 days now i am trying to boot CM11(4.4 kitkat) to my sgs3 international. I am using Rom manager to flash Clockworkmod recovery and then i boot this zip file : cm-11-20131129-UNOFFICIAL-i9300-V12.zip

are the gapps the latest ones?
It sounds like CWM problem (are you sure that you have the latetst version?)
anyway I can describe what how I did it (actually this weekend) and I'm very pleased with the result
download Temasek CM11 v12 zip
download 11-26_GApps_Standard_4.4_signed zip
I also needed the camera fix from here
download boeffla kernel that in used with the appropriate app can do significant tweaks (personally I'm interested in power saving) from here
Steps:
1) Recovery mode
2) wipe system data, cache, dalvik cache
3) install ROM
4) install Gapps
4.5) might not need camera fix...can do it afterwards without any wiping
5) install kernel
6) can do wipe once more. Don't think it matters but have seen it in Youtude
7) reboot
good luck
reboot
Update CWM to version 6.0.4.5. Alternatively, use Philz Touch by Phil3759. His link is...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953
Latest version is 6.00.8
Then get Gapps (for 4.4) from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Don't forget the usual wipes - just for good hygiene.
Hope it helps. :good:

Tracer Oxygen GS3 - Rom[recovery]

Hi,
I successfuly rooted smartphone, but then i tried to install new rom with rom manager I see message "no command". When I try to install the rom through recovery i see "install zip sd card" option. Any attempt to install ROM using Revocery fails with the error "installation aborted". I read on the forums that I need to update CWM Recovery but i can't find CWM for my model. My actually Recovery version is "Android system recovery <3e>". If You can help me in any way? I need any recovery
Thank You!
There's no prebuilt CWM Recovery for Tracer Oxygen GS3. You'd have to build it yourself.
I found an updated ROM and tools to upload it to your phone on the ftp_colon_slash_slash_megabajt_dot_com_dot_pl_slash_Oxygen_Updates_slash_OxygenGS3_20140527.rar
Good luck!
