The button light is always on when watching online video or any local video. It is annoying especially in dark room. The button light is too bright and distracted.
It also consumes unnecessary power.
Any way to turn it off?
Unfortunately no there isn't, however the brightness setting may lower it.

Nope, it doesn't consume power, not when your screen is lit up! The power the little LED lighting up 3 buttons requires compared to that point of time when you 4.7 inches of screen is lit up is lower than negligible!
Also, no way to turn it off. It's the phone design. Only way is via some registry settings (if). However our bootloaders are very secure and no one has managed to get around it -so can't access registry either.

Also, I can feel the heat coming from the bottom of the phone (where the "windows phone" logo is printed) when charging and watching youtube simultaneously for appox 20 minutes.
I know heat should be normal but surprisingly it is from the bottom of the phone but not the battery compartment.
Is this heat from the light ? Or from the antenna? or cpu, mother board etc?

...and it is very normal for most windows phone I am presuming. I have a Lumia 800 and HTC Titan, both have that behaviour. Considering they have only 1GHz processor you can imagine that when you run processor hungry tasks your phone will use up all the power it can ideally the closest to 1GHz and hence the heat. You will it more on Titan due to aluminium body. I am guessing Titan 2 is less hot. Also my Lumia feels less hotter too due to it's polycarb body.

Since I knew everyone would think I lost my mind, I verified this for weeks before posting it...so here it goes!
When I charge the device at work (with the power on), it sits on my desk about 16 inches under my overhead cabinet that has fluorescent lights underneath. The lights somehow triggers screen actions on my HD2! It's the strangest thing I've ever seen! After about 30 seconds, the device looks like a ghost is randomly tapping the screen, randomly starting programs!
This NEVER EVER happens in any other condition--outside under sunlight or while the device is on any other surface where the fluorescent light is higher up, like on the ceiling. I have no problems with using the device otherwise.
It's just strange and I'm wondering if anyone else has ever seen this...
hmm interesting.
Might there be power running up inside the wall near the phone too? PC and monitior around it?
could be patches of field building up just enough to fool the capacitive screen, or maybe exciting the grease on teh screen or some such.
Course there has been a lot of talk about ghost taps, is it really only ever happening there?
Could be you need to change the starter plug in the fluorescent, if its a standard strip, they can hold quite a charge, and if its on its way out it could be losing charge to the air.
Especially when you look at how many electrical items we have on/near our desks, easy to build up a standing charge.

Someone also mentioned the fact that the flicker on my fluorescent desk lamp could be the cause. I saw a video where someone was able to "tap" their capacitive screen using beams of light, lasers, etc.

Did anyone notice that during the call, the screen isn't actually turned off, the backlight is still on, it just shows blank screen. You can see this if you are in a dark ambient because of the backlight bleed on the screen.
So, while you are talking, you will lose battery charge on call and on screen backlight. I don't think it is an economical way of spending battery juice.
So actually the screen is on the whole time during the call, you just can't see it because there is nothing showing on the screen...
Or is this just my device?
X10 2.1 nordic.
I noticed that, anyway during a call, it obviously drains the battery even though the screen switched off & the use of the Proximity sensor is to switch off the screen during a call to prevent the screen from touching than the economizing the battery
I noticed a big improvement of the battery with the 2.1 Update.
I've noticed it too, I think this would waste more battery? or is it the opposite?
Of course it uses more battery power. I can't rememeber if the same situation is in 1.6. Can anyone check?
It does use current, but i think its a minor amount. The reason why they leave it active but black for example, is that if you need to quickly access the dial pad you can do that, without waiting for a second or two for the screen to power on.
I recall back on 1.6 at times it felt like eternity that it would take to bring up the dial pad during calls. I'm not sure but check to see if the screen does in fact turn off completely after a certain duration, since that would be ok.
Nope, it doesn't turn off and I wouldn't say it's a minor amount of power, because the screen is one of the most power hungry components in our phones. So if you are in a call for say 30 mins just think how much battery that would suck out. And for me, for no good reason, when I'm on the phone I don't need the screen, that is why the proximity sensor exists, to turn the screen on and off
I understand, but you have to understand how the lcd works. Producing colours or tints cause the device to use more power. The brighter the colour the more power. Since white is the brightest tint or colour, whichever you prefer, black being the opposite would use the least amount of power for the screen being on. Unless this is a type of lcd matrix that uses most power with black I read about that before somewhere. But I highly doubt SE would do that. But considering its a concern of yours there might be an dialer app that negates this hmm.
At the Sony Ericssons products Blog there was a video about the new features at 2.1
It tells also that you could press the Power-Button to turn off the light during calls.
I´ve not testet this yet, maybe of you could test this. ;-)

It does not take a second or 2 for the screen to come back on. Just test it yourself by pressing the power button, it comes on within 1 second. On a side note, in the 1.6 days the screen would stay on completely and if you press the power button it hangs up. That was a terrible implementation.

Im on 2.1, cant check it anymore. It was rather sluggish for me on 1.6. The difference may be that I had pictures for all my contacts. I like it just fine.
Yes, you can turn the screen completely off by pressing power button, I've just tried. I don't understand why do I have to do it with my finger when I have proximity sensor that works just fine when it wakes up the screen from complete power off when I move it from my face. Seems like a bug to me.
LCD screen consumes the same amount of power no matter what image it is showing, black or white, so as far as I'm concerned showing black screen during a call does absolutely nothing for me, especially not for my battery. This is so trivial that I can't believe they missed it. Or maybe some SE engineer thought X10 has AMOLED screen so it doesn't consume power when it's displaying black...
Personally, I prefer the screen turn off compared to the screen lock in 1.6 as I had a hard time unlocking the screen lock when you need to use the dial pad when on the phone.
So when you are on the phone, the screen turns off and when you move your phone away from the ear, the screen turns on.

You are 100% correct, my mistake, lcds do use the same amount of power due to the backlight. I was just on the phone for 50 minutes and my battery went down by 5%, so i think its not bad at all. I was even on wcdma/gsm.
Drop SE an email to inquire on it maybe?
Well, maybe I'm exaggerating, but this kind of screen backlight beahaviour just isn't logical to me. You say you lost 5% on 50 min call? Hmm, that really seems low...
Where can I send inquiry to SE?
i have the same problem guys.....any solution yet?
working on a more accurate solution atm.
Hey guys, can anyone tell me what the heck is this and how did I manage to get one after 12 months of using this phone?
edit] sorry for not explaining it, it goes along left edge of the phone, yellow mark near the charging port. I didn't notice it until yesterday and its visible a lot in live, I don't know how good can you see it over picture
hey guys, anyone?
Most phone screens go yellow from exposure to heat, perhaps your screen on that spesific are has been exposed to heat or preassurr

I'd say locked pixels but seeing it happen with phone turned off, yeah it's probably from heat.
I can also explain how.Sony uses a "liquid cooling thermal pipe" which takes the heat from your chipset (approximately below the N (NFC) letter on your phone's back) and delivers it to the left edge of your phone, towards the charging port to be more precise (your yellow mark is also at that spot)
You may have used your phone very heavily in extremely hot environment.I've seen my previous phone's screen go all weird due to heat (chipset @90 C) but it was fixed after a bit of waiting, to do this kind of permanent damage you must have used it heavily for long period of time, long enough to burn the screen via the heat coming from the heat pipe.
I doubt you could get it repaired for free, they would know it was because of heat and if your phone is unlocked, you have no chances at all because they can just assume that you overclocked your phone.

Mine goes yellow on the nav bar but only when its hpt usually when the battery is above 40°c but this occurs mostly when I'm charging
First of all, thanks for answering to all,
Second, you cannot see it when the phone is off, the first picture is with gray picture on it so you think it's off. When the phone is cold started, the mark is almost invisible but after some minutes of using it becomes visible.
The phone was never unlocked, neither was heavily uses, such as maybe gaming.
I just wanna know can I claim my warranty on it since I'm sure no pressure was made nor was it exposed to heat, but I first need to probably repair my cracked back screen.
Hello everyone,
As the title suggests I'm now another proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925F) and immediately a few questions rose.
First of all, I unboxed my device and did the first power on. However, I noticed something weird. From the 1st power on it only had 3% battery ! Is this normal guys? From all of the unboxing videos I watched on YouTube all of them where 40% + after the 1st power on! Is it normal to be so low ?? So, I immediately shut it down and got it charging.
Second, after plugging it in to charge it started from 0%. Probably it even lost these 3% it had lol. Anyway, charging started nice and fast but I noticed another thing. The phone got really hot while charging! Is this normal again? The back was quite hot and the aluminum bezels on the sides as well (especially side lower parts). I know that this device has fast charging so it may be this and also maybe that it started charging from too low , 0% .
(UPDATE: now that it is at 99% it's has really cooled down)
My 3rd question is probably a foolish one but forgive me please. :silly: When I got it out of the box, since I'm a crazy perfectionist, I started examining the body of this jewel with a really bright torch light hahaha. Everything seemed flawless apart from a couple of tiny little marks on the lower left part of the home button. (not scratched some kind of marks like tiny glue residue maybe) They didn't get away after wiping them, even with little water on a cloth. Also, they are not really visible. Maybe they are a bit in really bright conditions but still you should look for them to see them. So, are these kind of tiny imperfections normal too? I guess so, but just wanted to say hahahha.
One more. My heart rate sensor seem to have a little plastic protector applied on it. Am I right? I'm quite afraid to pull it so, is there a little membrane there? In camera, I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance and have fun happy owners!
When I got my first smartphone, the Motorola Droid Ultra on initial boot it had 1% battery, so battery being low on first boot is not unheard of. Yet you are right that it should have 40% on initial boot. The battery going to zero before going up again is something I have experienced as well. The phone getting hot is expected with how rapidly energy enters the battery. The last two I am unsure about. If you can remove the plastic do so

Thanks for your quick response!
Alright, so yea the low 1st power-on battery seems normal. I also asked Samsung and they say it's normal since they don't set any specific charge amount from factory but they just use it as much as needed (for quality control, I assume).
About the heart rate sensor yea, I realized that it has a little protector film which can be removed.
Also, what I told about the little "marks" on home button let me explain. You can't actually see this normally. You have to have your home button fully clean and then point a bright torch to it and then look carefully on the bottom left part of it and you can see some tiny little "marks" but still can't see them at every angle. However, they are not scratches, it may just be some little debris or glue residue under the button surface, probably on the fingerprint scanner. (maybe during assembly) But again this is from a crazy perfectionist's eye!:laugh::laugh: You can't see it in normal use. I guess if you take many S6 Edges out of the box and start examining them with a powerful torch, mm by mm for sure you will find different kind of "imperfections" in any of those. This thing must be the same for every device. But I like doing it just to know if there's something there in the first place.
Also, about the warm up thing. I updated to Android 6 and performed a hard reset afterwards. Also I disabled fast-charging from the menu. (don't know if it's also disabled when you charge the phone fully shut down tho.) In normal use the temperature is fine. When charging tho (when shut down) it warms up quite a bit on rear and on side bezels. So, you S6 Edge does the same?
Thanks a lot.

Also, 1 last question (detail style again).
When you start up the notification led lights dark blue and then lighter blue in sequences. So when it does that, I can tell that there is a little "2nd" led that lights up on the right side of the notification led and makes it brighter blue. My question is that, can you see that in yours? I ask this because in my Galaxy Alpha you can't tell where the "little leds" are but you just see a clean light changing colors. On S6 Edge though, you can tell that the notification led area must be somehow "splitted" so like there is "another little led" on the right side lighting up and changing the color. Is it the same to you?
Thanks
The low battery percentage you had in your phone is just normal.
The phone gets hot when it's being charged especially when it starts from a very low percentage. Do you imagine the amount of energy getting into your phone's battery? That's a lot.
Speaking of leds, mine has the same too.
Hope you have a great time with your phone!

Hi,
Has anyone experienced an abnormal temperature in the nav keys area? It is present in any moment that the screen it is turn on, even on recovery with twrp or with different roms, increasing with time. It is safe continue using it?
A little background first: a couple of months ago I had the screen replaced, from nowhere the old screen started to blink and went black with a burned smell. Before this happening never noticed this issue before.
Appreciate your help!
There are not many chips in there. It's probably something with USB power management. Is your USB port working? I mean both client and host functionality?

My USB is working normal I can acess my files and charge the device too. But I don't know what you mean about the functionality part
I mean chip providing 5V for OTG. If it works as well problem could be caused by battery, but I think that heat wouldn't be concentrated in lower part of the device
Hi g4m4r1,
I have this hot area in the middle of navy keys (home button) bottom on the screen. But my device only warm when I am playing games or when I use the screen brightness over 70%.
So, in indoor usage my screen brightness is around 30% and this area is just little warm.
Other important point is the ambience temperature, in my country is summer right now, so my device get this hot area very fast when I start up some game or increase the screen brightness.

Hi Fabio, thank you for your contribution, I did some testing and seems that brightness has a role in heating the nav keys area, by the way mine, it is not concentrated only at home button, but well distributed on the others buttons too.
At low brightness, just enough to see what it is on the screen, the heating rate is lower and increases, but at high brightness it is almost unbearable to the touch. About the weather part, that doesn´t seem to affect the area. But still I don't know if is prudent to me continue use the device.
