[Q] ADB Question Involving Filenames with a Space - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did a search, and nothing seems to pop up, then again there are many ways to describe what the title says so it very well could be here and my searching ability just sucks.
I've noticed that UMS under CM9 is slow as hell with my external card, sub 1meg but when I plug it into my computer out of the phone, I pull 8+ MBs transfers (Class 10 card) I've discovered ADB works extremely well and is quite fast. The problem I'm running into is that I'm trying to transfer folders that have spaces in them. Using Windows and Command Prompt it interprets the space as "Insert next command" clearly it's not. Is there a way to have the ADB Pull/Push command work with folders that have a space in the filename?
I.E. I have a band I like called "Dark Moor" I have a folder called "Dark Moor" rather than rename the folder on the computer for transfer then rename on the Android and vice versa, I would like to do something like "adb pull /sdcard/music/Dark Moor /Dark Moor" clearly it doesn't recognise this as acceptable.

Simply type the path quoted, like this:
Code:
adb pull "path/with spaces/xD"

Tried that. On Windows 7 it gives me an error about a nonexistant directory or invalid command.

Hmm... look my attachment, I have no errors

Yea. I was an idiot. I didn't do the quotes. That worked this time around. For some reason I read your comment as "type what's in the quotes." Looks like my brain is fried this Friday! Leaving the office before I do damage to my work network. Thanks man!

[APP] LG Optimus Video Editor WORKING!!! UPDATED: Screenshots.

Standard Warning about nuclear apocalypse, phone bricking, etc. If you don't know what you're doing don't attempt to do any of this. Again, I'm not responsible. Nandroid is your friend, blah blah blah...
I got it up and running. Installation is pretty simple but could the app could use some tweaking to get it running a bit smoother on our Vibrants. Here's the app minus some tweaking by LG apparently.
ArcSoft
Instructions:
1. Copy the "3rd_Party" folder to the internal SD card (just my preference as I'm writing these instructions from that location)
2. In command prompt enter the following commands and hit the enter key after every line:
adb shell
Click to collapse
su

busybox cp -r /sdcard/3rd_party /system/

You should get an empty prompt is done correctly, if so enter:
exit

3. Copy the "ArcVideoEditor" apk to any SD card.
4. Fire up Astro or the file manager of your choice and install.
5. ???
6. Profit
You might experience some slowness and FC's when selecting media to add to the storyline, but pretty much else runs fairly well. Lemme know what issues you have.
Great post man. It's nice to have a decent..scratch that, have any video editing app on the Vibrant
Thanks! I was wondering if anyone even had tried it.

your battery would probably die half way through a 10 second rendering... I'm sure they limited it for a reason.
But yeah, the apk would have to be modified for that... since the source isn't available, it'd be really tough/impossible to change it.
I'm sure the Vibrant has enough power to edit HD video if the iPhone can do it, nice find btw!

It force closes on my 720p movies. I'm sure that our phones can edit HD video, we just need an editor optimized for our GPU.
*buhbOmp*
Added screenshots. Not sure why there's some artifacts in the 2nd screenshot, they don't exist in the app.
nice, i'm gonna have to give this a whirl
This is great, exactly what I wanted.... But there is an issue that is preventing me from using it.... Once its open it closes after 30 seconds maybe 1 minute... Not force close just closes while trying to use it...

It's in the attached zip file.
So I did everything in Terminal, but when I start video editor now it gets stuck on startup with just a black screen then I get a fc.

The more I use it, the more stable it is becoming.
I think the app needed to build thumbnails of my media and was crashing while doing so. Now that all the thumbnails are created, it seems mostly content.
I was able to stitch together 5 clips and save as a single video. Pretty cool!

EDIT: I guess I was out of space on my /system folder! I deleted several bloated apps and then was able to copy the folder using Super Manager. Thanks!
ORIGINAL:
I've tried and tried to copy the 3rd_party folder to my /system folder using both the ADB instructions above and also trying with Terminal Emulator, but all I get is "No space on device" errors. I have root and busybox. I've tried to remount /system as rw, but that fails as well.
What else can I try to check that the /system folder has space available to copy this folder?
Wow.. It works so great!
I wish video editor in android system, but there's no one I wanted.
But now it could be the one I just wished.
Thanks so sososososososo much!

Is AT&T Calendar the same as S Planner?

I've seen several reviews which mention that Samsung's S Planner app is missing from the AT&T version of the Note, but screenshots of the AT&T Calendar app appear very similar to S Planner. Can anyone confirm if there are differences in these two apps or did AT&T simply rename S Planner to Calendar?

Well, you could always get the .apk from the International and install it on the ATT Note once it's rooted since it'll have to be installed in the system/app folder.
Sent from my GT-i9220 using Forum Runner
They are similar but not the same. The AT&T version doesn't have all the features as the international such as dragging appt times around to new places or scheduling a meeting from s memo.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Thanks. I just picked up my Note from BestBuy and I think you're right... I cannot get the Calendar to use the date/time in the S-Note memo to set the new event date/time; it just includes the note in the "Memos" field for the event. The date/time you have to set manually.
However I can move events around (in the week or 3 day view) by just press/hold and slide it to a new time.
If you look under /system/app you will see that we have the splanner.apk so I am thinking that the calendar app is just a modified splanner app
Attached are the apk/odex from the Telus version
I'm not 100% sure what the difference is, but on the Telus version of this phone it is called as on the 'international'. I have attached the apk/odex files from /system/app. Feel free to try.

Yes. Move them to your /system/app folder. First you have to rename to ones already in there. Best to just add .bak to the end to maintain their existence. Double check permissions (rw-r--r--). Once you've done all that, reboot your device and they should install automatically like any other system app.
Let us know how it goes.
move them to /system/app, make sure they are 644 permissions (read by all). then reboot.
I have both models and they seems the same to me. When I put my google account in an synced the calendar looks just like the s planner. I also checked to make sure I could convert hand written s memos to the calendar and it works fine.
You know, now that I'm re-watching the YouTube video, they make it a little deceiving. The video makes it look like it recognizes your text and programs the calendar entry based on your keywords i.e. you enter dinner tomorrow at 9 pm and it schedules a meeting the next day at 9 pm with the title dinner. However, re-watching the video, it doesn't actually schedule her meeting correctly she just shoots past it so you can't see that it's not.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKcBijqJtHA
Yeah, maybe I was expecting too much, or confused with the Calendar quick add feature. On the AT&T Note Calender quick add will convert plain language to the proper event date and time, but from S Note it doesn't. It does a decent job of recognizing the handwritten note but only places that info in the memo section of the new Calendar event. Maybe that's all the internatiinal S Planner can do as well.

Ok I am going to be really stupid here. I haven't done anything to my phones since my HTC a few years back. I just got this ATT Note and am trying to install the files that were given in this thread.
You say to move them to system/app. Here is my questions. How do I get there? I went through just plain old Windows Explorer and that doesn't seem to be right. Is there a program that I need to download to put these files in to where they are needed, or an I just not getting it at all (which could be possible).
Thanks for the help. Have done a lot of searching and still am very confused

You have to be rooted in order to move a system file. And you would have to be running a file explorer such as ES file explorer with the system mounted as read/write.
If you are rooted, then go into options in ES and put a check next to root explorer and mount system. Make sure you say yes to superuser request. I like to change the home directory from /sdcard/ to just /
That should start you in the true file system and not in the SD card.

I honestly prefer ghost commander, it's dual window, have the files you want to move in one, and system/app in the other, on the system window you can scroll right on the little bar on bottom and click remount as rw, then you can move or copy items

So I would move the files from my PC to somewhere on the SD card and then use this Ghost Commander to move them to where I need to in the root directory.
Am I getting that right?

Ok so I got my files on my sd card and I can see the in Ghost. 4 of the files already exist in the system/app so I am confused why it is not there. I did try to run it directly and got an error.
I still can't figure out how to read/write from the root.
I tell you, this S Planner better be worth all the crap I am doing to get it on my phone.

Search doesn't work too well. Especially the app. When you open es, press the menu capacitive button, go to settings aand choose root explorer. Press yes for superuser prompt when it comes up. Then select mount system as writable. Also, change home directory to just "/" instead of "/sdcard/". Then you should be able to see everything. Go to the sdcard where the files are... long press on each file and choose copy. Then go back until you see the folder titled "system". Go into that folder then into the "app" folder. At the bottom of your screen there should be an arrow with a box around it. Press that and touch the files. That will copy them to the folder. You should get a confirmation that they copied successfully.
Don't worry about asking too many questions. That is the purpose of a forum, to discus and to learn. Though it could be argued that many people have forgotten that. Ill try to post up some pics as it goes through....

Automount SDcard as external storage script

I know there are certain apps out that will auto-mount your SDcard as external storage, but I was looking for something more along the lines of an Init.d script to get that same job done, I've done some searching and I can't seem to really find something that does what I'm looking for, any help appreciated, Thanks.
Edit: Evo3D CDMA btw.
External storage for when you connect to a computer? When you connect, select the mount as disk option and select don't ask again. It should then automatically mount the sd card as external storage each time you connect via usb.

Sorry for giving the obvious answer earlier, but you'd be surprised how often that is what is needed.
If I understand what you need to happen, you might want to try one of these:

Disk drive mode

BASICALLY INTERNAL DRIVE READS AS CD-ROM AND NOT AS A PARTITION - HOW DO I FIX THIS?
Hey
Disk drive mode is killing me
I was one of the first to get this phone - I like HTC products
But ever since I received this phone I cannot access my internal storage when I plug it into disk drive mode. Why is this and how can I fix it?
I thought both internal and external are plug and play ready (meaning no driver needed to access to info), But for some strange reason my internal 9 gbs will not come up, my external is fine.
I would like to fix this issue today (searching all over the web for the answer) but I am trying to set up a wireless syncing with my phone and I am going to be using my external sd as my media and files and my internal for android system stuff.
I am thinking about formatting my internal memory but I need to first take the info out of it.

Replace Virtual CD on the HTC EVO 4G LTE
Every now and then, a mod so unique pops up that it bears closer examination. For HTC EVO 4G LTE owners, a mod such as this has appeared. When booted into a Sense ROM and connected to a PC, one will notice that the device mounts as two drives. One is the internal storage, and the other is a CD-ROM. Yes, a CD-ROM. Naturally, upon discovering this, the first step is to see if it can be used for something else. As it turns out, it can be.
XDA Recognized Contributor closeone has discovered that there is a file on the EVO LTE called PCTOOL.ISO, which is what causes the EVO LTE to show up as a CD-ROM when it’s plugged into a PC. Closeone explains why it is there and what can be done about it:
There is a file named PCTOOL.ISO inside the /system/etc directory that normally contains the HTC Sync Manager Software. By replacing that ISO with another, it’ll mount that one instead. Because there isn’t too much room to spare in the /system partition, the file should probably be kept relatively small.
There are a number of things users can put in place of the HTC Sync Manager Software, although not a whole lot of things have been tested yet. In theory, though, quite a few useful tools can be placed here, as closeone says:
1. ROM Developers can include a package that contains a copy of the ADB and Fastboot executables within their ROM. ADB would be useful while the device is on; Fastboot would probably have to be copied to the computer.
2. Because the ISO is mounted as Read-Only media, it could be incredibly useful for field technicians who need to run portable software, without the risk of being infected with a virus on the host machine.
Being able to run portable software without thread of virus is definitely something anyone could benefit from. Aside from being one of the more unique mods on XDA, having functionality like this on the EVO LTE can lead to various possibilities.
To learn more, check out the original thread."

Drag and drop files into internal storage?

I've been looking at custom themes on mycolorscreens.com and many of them have zip files of everything you need to set them up. However, when I try to drag the files onto my phone's internal storage on my pc it won't allow it. Does this require rooting? I have 2.06 so this isn't an option right now. Thanks!
No, you're able to do it regardless of if you're rooted or not.

Are you dragging over the part that says internal storage if so you must open internal storage and then drag it. That area wont work if you drag it in because its just a link windows uses to open your storage up. Microsoft needs to rethink their MTP handling setup. EDIT: also are you trying to drag something out of a zipped folder?

:good: Reaverclan is right, Windows knows how to deal with the files, even if you drag them over your "Internal Storage Icon" (it will just put it on the root).
Apps like Winzip or WinRAR don't know what to do with it though, so of you're trying to drag something from inside a zip, it won't work. Start by right clicking your zip file and selecting "Extract", then drag the extracted files where you want them
