hello,
i have the same issue, is there any solution to root the SGS without ODIN?
i have a huge problem as i cannot connect the sgs to PC in download mode (although if opened normally it connects with no problem) and the only way i can think to make an update is to used sgs kernel flaser from the market but as i don't have root i cannot use it.
pls help
The best way is odin.. But if your scared of losing your data u can flash cwm via odin then boot directly into clockwork(because it won't stick for more than one boot on stock kernal) and flash the superuser apk(found in the dev section of your device) via clockwork.. Boom your rooted and still have data... U could also use adb to directly flash busybox and the superuser file.. But if u cant figure odin out I would highly reccomend u stay away from adb... Goodluck

thanks from the prompt reply
unfortunately odis is useless for me as the PC is not recognizing the SGS opened in download mode so i cannot flash cwm. i had this problem a couple of months aga and solved it by flashing using sgs kernel flashed from market (as back them i had root) + wipe data & wipe cache then problem was solved, i could connect the sgs to PC in download mode and i was able to flash with odin.
As regards adb, i've seen some posts about it and it seems more complicated. I'll try to find out more about it maybe it will be useful.
Hello to everyone!
I have a big problem with my SGS2.
I wanted to restore via RomManager (premium). (A backup of my previous OS stock ROM with CF-root kernel).
Because the flashing of CM7 via RomManager has not worked. First I had to flash the Stock Rom before, because my Sgs2 dosent starts..
So purely in the recovery and backup chosen ..
Surprise! Mobile phone hangs now at "Samsung S2 Galaxy S2..."
lettering.
I come without any problems into the download mode, but my Pc writes "unknown device" .. And it will not be displayed in Odin ..
Drivers ect. are all there ..
Does anyone have any advice what I can do now?
Thanks for reading through.
Sorry 4 my bad english.
Mfg Ente

Go back in recovery and wipe cache and data/factory reset and than reboot.
It should work now. Try another usb-port for pc recognition and enable usb debugging in settings.

Which firmware you flashed through ODIN?

if your experiencing a boot loop after flashing go into recovery and wipe data see if that helps

bootloop happens when the Rom corrupts during installation or installing any other application. or some people using ROM Manager . Never use ROM Manager you will loose the cwm. Download any ROM which supports Odin. flash it you should be fine. Then you can switch back to your favorite ROM. this is a good rom you can flash via odin.

PS : if you don't like to flash ROM just flash CWM via Odin which should give you access to CWM. you can restore you backup ROM if you have one or have any other ROM in your phone memory.

I was facing the same problem some days ago, but after surfing this forum, I realised that if you have Kies running in the background, Odin will behave oddly and will not flash the firmware by going into a bootloader loop.
I suggest that you re-install the drivers again and make sure that Kies is not running in the background when you are flashing through Odin (just fire up your Task Manager in Windows and terminate the Kies process).
Hope this helps you...

It is possible that your phone suffered a by now well known Sudden Death Syndrome. If you used a Firmware before, that didn`t included the SDS fix then it could happen. Syndromes are like you described: Phone freezing all the time, not responding etc.

So you can go into download mode right?
If yes then download a official Samsung firmware and then try to flash it through Odin. Now the most important thing for you is to get your phone to a Stock state, so that it hopefully boots up.
Yes i can go into download mode. i download the original firmware from sammobile but still i dont understand witch pit file i must use.
Hello everybody,
I am using my I9300 with TWRP and SlimKat.
I noticed a few days ago I was'nt able to reboot into recovery (the teamwin logo appears, and then reboot with the samsung logo and boot normally).
I was not worried to much as my phone booted normally.
And this morning, down to 4% battery, I place it on charge, and he reboots suddenly, and since then I am stuck into a bootloop (stuck at the Slimkat logo for a while and then reboot).
Same thing for the recovery mode, I cannot access it.
I have still access to download mode so I guess i can save my phone that way.
Any help about how to proceed and what to flash (via odin ?)
Thanks for your help !
You will need the stock rom for your device (single package) and just flash via odin in download mode. Clear cache and reboot afterwards to remove any signs of the other rom.
Let me know if you need a link to the 4.3 BTU firmware.

How do I flash it with Odin ? Do I check re-partition ?
Thanks,
Flash with odin, do NOT select repartition.
Tick one package, enter the firmware under "pda" button and flash.
There is detailed instructions on the samsung site or google.
