Help - Factory wipe failed = brick - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good evening,
I was performing a perfectly normal factory reset in CWM tonight, when it froze while formatting data. Then screen went blank. Tried to reboot, nothing. No recovery mode or download mode using three button combos.
I was trying a new ROM (Omega Black-Blue), but decided to revert to my backup of HydrogenICS. It was during the wipe prior to restoring the backup that the problem occurred.
I have Siyah v3 running, and have had not problems in the past.
Any ideas anyone??

did you try removing your battery keep sometime out and try again 3 botton Combo for DL mod
if you can get a full charged battey also try the same..

get your battery out of the phone , and i think you didnt wip system , so you can enter recovery and enter download mode also , i think it is battery proplem happened to me once and i though my phone is dead but after recharging my battery in onether s2 phone for 1 hour and get it back in my phone , all goes fine

first you should try to change the battery, if that doesn't work,
open Odin in the pc, and then try to get into download mode as you would normaly,
except for this you wont see anything on your phones screen, now press volume up
plug it into pc, and see if odin reads it, if it does, try to flash to stock from there,
i know this from experience, it happend to me on my galaxy note

How could it be a 'Good Evening' if you have just bricked your phone?

Try using USB jig..
I had the same problem with my Galaxy S. I tried, charging the battery, replacing the battery with a charged one, download mode, power flushing using all buttons etc. Nothing worked. USB thing did... So why not give it a shot. if nothing works, then just give to Samsung, they will replace it for you.
Cheers
- me!

Don't go making promises around things you have nothing to do with.
If you don't get to go back to stock & reset the flash counter before you send it to Samsung, the experience on here over the past 6 mths has been 50/50 they ignore it & give you warranty service or replacement/they make you pay for it.
It is very much the luck of the draw/dependent on who looks at the phone, Samsung policy is to refuse warranty service in situations like this.

I have the same issue, in this thread, somebody tried different batteries, jig and I have tried blind connecting the phone to odin... no luck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555259&page=515

i'm having the same problem.
been on hydrogenics with siyah. tried to do a fullwipe to reinstall the system. but it froze at "format data"... i tried several times but it never finished "format data". then i tried to restore a nandroid backup. which didnt work too. then i unplugged battery. after that no turning on anymore...
might this be a problem with siyah and hydrogenics?

My wisdom is very limited due to me being new to rooting and stuff ._.
But yeah, USB jig is your friend.

Yes, same scenario, the only difference was that I was using MIUI and Siyah. it bricked my device (mmcblk0p10 , or i should say, data partition) is dead.

I took the SIM to put in another phone and the phone turn on no more .. i have tryed hard reset, soft reset, nothing turn the phone on.. Anyone can help me? It's a bit urgent and sad, since it is a "toy" rather expensive ..

Cwm(clockworkmod recovery)-vol up+home+power
How did you manage to flash a rom without even knowing what cwm is???
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
Did you keep the rom zip file in your phone? or can you connect your phone to a computer?
Hold volume up+home+power to recovery mode, try to re-install the rom or try another rom.
If it's available, you may backup your stuff and wipe data and cache before install the rom.

try using a usb jig and chk if its getting to download mode
if not then
put it on chargin and chk if the area below camera is getting hot
if it is getting hot then its confirmed that u have bricked ur phone
if u have it in warranty claim it make sure u don tell them wat u did

my at&t not just died?

i wiped everything including a factory reset then installed liquid rc8 i used correct one for my phone it rebooted but never booted up to the samsung logo doesnt seem to vibrate or anything when i press power wtf?
now when i plug it into pc it shows my external drive then it vanishes then re-appaears and tells me to format it but that doesnt work either

If you can get back into recovery mode, try reflashing the rom or flashing another rom. I've had cases where a rom just wouldn't work for me (I too, have the AT&T Note). Never had the patience to try to figure out why. I usually try to flash several times (making sure I do a factory wipe) but if it still didn't work, I would just flash another rom.
If you can't get into recovery mode, then you may need to flash a stock rom via ODIN (in download mode) and then start all over from scratch (root the phone, install CMW or TWRP,flash custom rom, etc.). Please search the forums for a stock rom and all the files / instructions on flashing via ODIN if you aren't already familiar with it.
Since your PC recognizes the phone to some degree (it at least recognizes that the phone was connected and interacts with the sd card), it sounds like you have a soft brick which is fixable via one of the methods above. If your phone was hard bricked, then the PC more than likely wouldn't recognize it at all, it would do absolutely nothing and you would basically have a paper weight. It doesn't sound like you have a hard brick.
If anyone else has more insight, please chime in. I'm definitely no expert here.
it wont even light up to samsung logo or even vibrate also the sd is recognised but it randomly connects and disconnects odin does not see phone

Perhaps your cable is defective. All of my cables eventually get to the point where I have to twist them and hold them a certain way to work. When that happens I know it's time to replace the cable. You may just need to use another cable.
no i tried with 2 differnt cables also battery was at like 99% when this happened also windows keeps finding my sd for a moment and then vanishes could this be stuck power button? if so i dont see how i didnt touch power button when it rebooted

[SGS2] Flashing Problem/Brick

Hi all,
so i just start and describe my problem. My Friend asked me to root his phone and flash RR 2.7. So far i did this with 5 phones be4 (s2 and s3)
He had ICS (4.04) with the buildnumber XXLQ6, so i took for rooting purposes this one CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5, because i couldn't find LQ6.
Ofc i did it with odin and everything went according to plan. After the restart phone was rooted and i had access to CWM.
I rebooted into Recovery Mode and Wiped everything icluding battery stats and dalvik. Then i selected the RR 2.7 zip and the Installation went smoothly. After that i wiped everything again before rebooting and also did the "fix permissions" thing in the adv settings.
Reboot and Phone stayed off no recovery or download mode.
I guess it is bricked and i wonder did i something wrong? Phone getting back to repair i hope warranty will cover it.
Thanks for Replies
Have you tried charging it? Perhaps the batter was too low and the flashing took all the juice. Happened to me once on a Droid3
no i dont think so I tried though. the phone had the original bigger battery and had 65% before flashing. no I am afraid ti flash ever again...
I quess you can try a USB jig to get into download mode, maybe the 3 button combo is out of order.
the device dead now and there is no way to relief it :crying:

[Q] HELP! My Samsung Galaxy S3 International I9300 is stuck in bootloop!

Hi,
I have the exact same problem as some of the other bootlooped/bricked Galaxy S3's, i was on a custom samsung 4.1.2 rom for about a month and while browsing the net today it crashed went in bootloop now i cant get out, went into cwm recovery mode and factory reseted but didnt do anything.
The problem now is i cant go back into clockwork mod at all, so i went into download mode by pressing power + voloume down and menu button and went into download mode and opened odin flashed a stock rom, however it just keeps saying fail after nand write.
I now tried a custom rom and the same issue occurs and it fails, now when i pull the battery out and turn it back on all i get is a error message saying 'firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again' can somebody please helppppp me i literally have no phone at use at the moment!
Thanksssss :highfive:

If you have a jig you might be able to bring it back to life and get in downloadmode and retry flashing a stock rom again. Pull the battery for a minute, reinsert it and use a jig. If you don`t have one try to buy one. Good luck

I relate to you guys for that's exactly the same problem I'm going through. After successfully updated to the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 UK BTU international version and beautifully restored all my apps via Titanium backup I then proceeded to restore as well my EFS folder through a program named kTool, ignoring its warning message cuz I was just following a tutorial put out on a S3 Brazilian forum believing there was no danger at all.
Well, to my sadness and despair it returned on a bootlooping mode, if you will, and I did everything firstly tried to recover then wiped cache, dalvik, data, formatted the whole stuff and finally installed again via odin in download mode the same jelly bean 4.1.2 all to no avail
Now I got the bootlooping and when I press volume up + power + home I get a screen with a seemingly dead robot with a exclamation sign in its chest. Please what do I do in order to fully recover my S3?? this situation is killing me.

Dude, I've watched that vid but haven't tried that procedure so far, matter of fact I will do that however flashing an earlier version of the ROM, perhaps JB 4.1.1 or 4.0.4 or yet the current one from another country since the UK BTU version I downloaded was somehow corrupted. Anyhow thanks for the heads up to avoid factory reset and reboot it instead, hopefully I'm going to manage to get the CWM recovery screen cuz now I get only this:
Android system recovey <S3>
Volume up/down to move to highlight:
power button to select.
Reboot system now
apply update from ADB
Apply update fom external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
Right below it appears, along with the fallen/dead robot, the folowing message:
# MANUAL MODE #
Applying Multi-CSC....
Applied the CSC-code: ZTO
Succesfully applied multi-CSC.

I9100 reboot loop, problem whith network, it is a brick ?

Hi everyone,
First, please excuse me for my bad english
So, I'm here because I have a really big problem with my Samsung I9100.
Indeed, I will explain my problem. I installed the SENTINEL ROM 5.00 a few month ago, and I never had a problem before.
But yesterday, I don't know why, I have so much problem with my Network, (My friends haven't the same problem and we have the same operator, it's Orange)
So, I don't understood why I had this kind of problem. After a few minutes, my GS 2 shut down...
I tried to boot but It had no effect !! I fall in a reboot loop, whith no home screen.
After a panic I try so much solution :
Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, reboot. Same problem ! Sometimes, I can access to the menu, but a few minute after, it shut down again.
I tried to restore an official firmware, no effect, He can't load, he is blocked with "Samsung animation boot".
I tried to restore with a ROM (Rootbox 3.91), no effect too, I can access temporary to my message, and after a few minutes, he shut down !
Sometimes, I just click in the home button (The only button), and it shut down !
I observed now, it can't book if I don't connect it to the alimentation's cable.
Really, I'm so lost, I understand nothing. Especially, I didn't do something special to make this...
If someone can help me...
Thanks !

It sounds like you would get into recovery-mode?
Do you have an ClockworkModRecovery?
Can you make a nandorid backup with the recovery?
Do you have an older Recovery you could restore without too much data-loss?
Is the battery ok? Can you start your Phone if you connect it with the charger? If yes I would recommand to backup as many iportant data as possible.
I'm running sentinelRom 5.0 too and I have no problems.

Hi Baerlinaer, thanks to answering me.
I had no problem with SentinelRom 5.0 since few month, but yesterday I don't know why, I have so much problem in the same time.
I can access to the recovery mod, and I restore my back up since the recovery mode. I tried to restore 3 differents ROM.
I don't know if the battery is OK cause in the screen, I have 100% but when I disconnect the alimentation's cable. It shut down ! And I can boot but after the first boot animation, It shut down !
I don't care about my data really, it's nice but I just wanna recover my phone with all his fonctionnality !
I alrealdy make a backup !
I am very lost cause I don't know why it do that :/
Can you start the phone withe the cable plugged in but without the battery?
Couse if you can, it is the Battery. I had such a Problem with a Laptop once. The Battery was broken and it rebootet after a few seconds or minutes. I tried everything, to recover it and then I took out the Battery and it run perfectly well.

Now, when I have the booticon Samsung, my phone automatically shut down...
I don't know, I am very lost....
Anyone can help me ?
Tomorrow I will try battery of gs2 of a friend.
