Hi all, today i woke up and found ICS was available for download for my Sensation XE, i downloaded the update and started the install but on the reboot is sits on a little android screen with an ! inside a tri-angle, i checked online and found this would be down to the face my phone is rooted so i started lookin for an option to unroot my phone to allow me to update everything to ICS.
I have looked at the UNROOT any android device topic and had problems finding the "stock recovery" or Recovery.img.
How the hell can i find this and unroot my phone? I have already run a full hard reset but still cannot update my phone

flash the stock rom..
The good part is not all stock rooms are available. That is RUU's anyway. I wanted to unroot my phone a long time ago, but come to find out you cant unless the RUU have been leaked. And since my phone company is small and local (Bluegrass Cellular), I cannot find any available for them.
So it depends on your carrier.
Im with 02 in the UK which is one of the biggest in europe/uk.
I did some research and came across a guide for unrooting the sensation 4g with links to ROMs: www(dot)filefactory(dot)com/f/c87a2330449af512/
Within this link i found this firmware:
RUU_Pyramid_O2_UK_1.50.206.1_R_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10....
Now my question is, would this work for my Sensation XE? Or is it just for the Sensation 4G?
Why don't you just flash a custom rom with thats built on ics? Like this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429953

Hey all,
I have a Hero on 3 UK network and since the stupid network dont seem to be releasing any updates for it, I want to root it and manually put 2.1/2.2 on there.
Problem is, NONE of the guides on how to flash it work.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Goldcard method - I have succesfully created a goldcard using a Kingston 1GB card (tested on a Desire and works). Trying to downgrade to the stock HTC ROM using HTC's RUU gives me error 140 (bootloader version error).
Rooting the phone - Phone is all hooked up to ADB, can poll it for information etc. Tried to boot it into a recovery image but get an error saying the following: "downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
Alternate rooting method - So I found out ROM version 2.73 or whatever it is has some kind of extra security on it. The guides are advising me to download flashrec.apk and install on phone to backup then flash the recovery sector of the phone. This doesnt work. I can neither backup nor apply the recovery images. Even if I override the backup part, it still wont work Just gives me yet another error.
Seems that my Hero is locked down with some impossible to break security. Anyone else having the same difficulty with Three UK? If so are there any other ways you guys may have come up with to root/flash your phone? I'm getting really pissed off with it and am probably going to do an insurance job on it if I cant flash it.
FYI, this phone has not been updated since August 2009. Everything on it is stock from Three UK.
Versions (if you think it's useful):
Firmware: 1.5
Build: 2.73.771.62
Baseband (radio): 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22
Kernel: 2.6.27-430d1aea
Any help I shall be most grateful for!!
Follow my newbie guide. Should talk you through it step by step.
The bootloader error is probably a driver thing. Update your HTC Sync and it should update the drivers.
Sorry, just noticed the thread got moved, my mistake.
Anyone able to shed any more light on it?
I followed the noobie guide and it didnt work. I have the latest version of HTC Sync installed.
Insurance job looking more likely.
Still with error 140? Did you update the driver in fastboot / bootloader mode?
Alternatively try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118

Which one is your noobie thread mate? I followed several threads off this forum all claiming to be noobie. TBH, they were all pretty straight forward enough, and worked when I helped my mate flash his Desire.
Min can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 (it's also in my signature )
Ok yeah, I'll just go over the points in your guide then explain how it failed...
Using Flashrec to backup and apply a recovery image...
Flashrec simply doesnt work on my phone (have tried about 3 different versions, including the very latest which is 1.13). No functions work. Cant even use the bypass backup button (hidden button to the right of backup button). That section ended there for me.
Goldcard method...
No matter what RUU I try to downgrade to, it does not work. Keep getting error 140 (incorrect bootloader version). The goldcard I made definitely works as we used the same one to downgrade my mates Desire today.
I found some other guides, which looked like they might help as they go a bit further, but ultimately every time I try and actually do something, it gets blocked, access denied or some other error.
Flashrec won't work if you're on the wrong version of android (i.e. not downgraded using goldcard).
Goldcard is fine it is most likely your drivers in your bootloader mode that are wrong - check them first.
Drivers were ok. I managed to downgrade using a newer version of the stock HTC ROM after scouring these forums for hours.
So in short... ALL GOOD.
Only problem I have now is that there is no manual update option on eclair (1.5). The 2.1 FOTA updates attempted to download before I setup the WiFi and now it wont come back.
If you want to stay official then you can put the month forward a few and the update should show up again.
Surely the point of this was to get root and a custom rom though no?
The point was actually to get Droid 2.1 'cos 3Uk are dragging their heels big time, but now opens up the options of loading custom ROM's.
TBH I'm happy just to have 2.1. Eclair was doing my head in with all its bugs.
Thanks for the tip with the date - it worked!
i wounder if you did it or not ? cuz o have the same demmn problem with my hero G2 touch t-mobile nothing work for me i try all methods i think last solution is to bring a big hummer and break it as i like (
Fellow 3 UK Hero Owner
I'd just like to add how angry I was when the 2.1 update failed to show up. The Goldcard method worked perfectly for me, then I looked at custom ROMs. I currently run Gingerbread and I have to say, not only is it SUPER fast and smooth but its way less buggy than the stock Hero ROMs.
I'm with the Cronos crew. To get the latest ROM, search for cronosproject (.org) and click forums. (cant post link because i haven't posted 8 times )
Seriously, you wont regret it
best way to fix this is...... make sure u have a file manager, download universal androot to your computer and then to your phone install through file manger and root phone then once rooted install rec image with rom manager from market.....there you go its rooted now follow my guide to flash custom roms properly and to root phones....
mayb its ur android version
may i please know it i can surely help you
Hey everyone, new Atrix owner here.
When I saw the OTA update I got excited and downloaded it via system updates.
It has not been installed yet. Still completely original stock/locked
From what I can tell from reading posts I do not want to install this now and it keeps alerting me to install it.
How can I disable/delete this?
Also,
Can anyone direct me to the post that explains how to unlock and load it myself from a custom rom (and a recommendation for custom rom to use)?
I just read for about an hour trying to figure it out to no avail so sorry for my newb skills.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
If you have root explorer or know adb go to /cache and delete the update files from there.
Cheers!
Completely stock at the moment. I have not done any modifications to this phone. Just bought it about a week ago.
So just trying to make sure I do this right the first time.
Tried to read the posts and made it through a 21 page forum and just got more confused haha. Way too many acronyms...
Anyways, if I just update myself from the leaked version i can go back and delete this later?
Which leak should I use is there one that is considered more stable?
There seems to be a million different ways to do 10 different things at the moment ugh..
Hello there, I was hoping somebody could help me with this.
So i've been trying to get my Evo Design 4g rooted but I always seem to get in some sort of a problem in the last steps. I first tried Frigid's SuperUserV3(in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343114), but did not get the phone rooted, I even got the colored flashing screen that says "Rooted" but superuser(Downloaded from Google Play) does not find a thing, the root checker says my phone is not rooted, and Titanium Backup says it cannot get access and that I need to root my phone.
Therefore I tried a different approach to the problem, and after some hours of research I found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470038
Which says that after all of that I will be able to "root" my Evo design, it pretty much tells you to use the same steps as this other post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
(by the way I do not really know what HBoot 1.5 means or what is it's purpose)
So after following the instructions on both of the posts I've done the first steps without problem, my Design already has been unlocked and I have already pushed the Recovery.img and the su.zip into the SD, I also went into fastboot and had the recovery option in there, I selected it and the phone started to restart as in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGlTGu_CBLI&feature=player_embedded
I however did not get anything after the HTC screen with the white background, it just stays there, I've waited for like aprox. 10 mins and it doesn't move or change so I'm guessing something must be wrong.
Now I don't know if all of this is not working because of my phone's version.
It is relatively new I got it a week ago as a replacement for an older one that had some problems with the charge port. Anyways, as soon as the phone was given to me I updated and everything(I did not Think/Know a lot about rooting at this point so I let it all install and it left me with this software version:
Android Version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0 (I don't know if it has anything to do with rooting or this)
Software Number: 2.12.651.8 710RD
All of this as of may 31 2012
I also found this other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399351
It does has some stuff on it for after the rooting and 2 links to do so but, they seem to be outdated/dead as the link that takes you to supertool still reads v2, and he has already released v3. The second one seems to take you to a page that doesn't exist anymore so the post just doesn't seem to be able to help me.
I also tried some of the other posts that this page recommended when posting this but none of them seem to have a real answer and take me in some kind of a loophole of the early mentioned options or have no answers about the rooting.
As an ultimate resource I've been pondering about using rEVOked with the settings of the Evo 4g since it seems to be very similar to my phone, or at least something similar to those words. Also tried UnlockRoot at some point in between but didn't work at all either. Don't think it is relevant though since there is not a lot I can do or work with when it comes to a one-click program.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated and I will try my best to continue researching and maybe post any changes or an official way to root this device since it seems as there is none around at least not to this point.
I am new to here and the whole rooting topic but i will try my best to be useful to the community and keep posting useful stuff around here.
Thanks!. Btw your noob video is hilarious.
I'm going to suggest you check out the design 4g / hero s section in the forums of sdx-developers.com & 2fastroms.com (2fast's site is down atm, but most files you need are in his download section for the hero s). There isn't an official sub section for the phone here at xda & its hard to find support. 2fast has a cwm recovery, custom kernels, & roms that works great with the design 4g (I'll pm links as soon as the site is back up). Sdx-developers gears towards more roms & mods. You will find a section for rooting your design at sdx here http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=19080.0 Sorry for not answering your question & just refering you to other sites, but I think you will find you solution & more support from the sites I posted than here at xda.
Thanks, it seems as that actually was the page that the other post was redirecting me to, so I guess I'll have to wait for that; I actually found that the problem might be that the Recovery.img that I'm using does not work on Evo Design/ Hero S phones. I found a different image on a post in here that got extracted from a Foreign forum, I'll try that after class and then see how everything goes. I would still love to get a link to a forum that has an "official" root for it though.
Thanks a lot
This is the correct recovery (clockworkmod) for the design 4g. Just rename it to Ph44IMG & place it on your sd card. Boot to hboot & let the phone find it & select to install. Remove or rename file from you sd card before you try to boot into your os. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/Design_PH44IMG.zip
Is that one for Sprint?
I'm in Indonesia and had tried recovery for Boost one and had GSM problem, no signal at all.
Hello everyone,
Here is my story and the reason I am posting looking for someone with enough patience to help me.
I live in the UK and last week I purchased an HTC ONE XL on Ebay, I didn't realize that the phone was being shipped from Hong Kong.. When the phone arrived It had installed Android Ice Cream Sandwich, so far so good....
The first thing I did when I received the phone was to try and update the Android software through Software update.. and here is when my problems started.. It turned out that the recovery software of the phone had been replaced with CWM and hence I am unable to actually update the firmware as every time I do so the system boots into recovery mode and it doesn't allow me to run the ZIP file.
Doing a bit more research I found out that in theory using the correct RUU I should be able to stock/unroot my phone and then be able to install the original software again and be able to update my phone.. Unfortunately the CID of my phone has been changed to CID:11111111 and so far I have not been able to find the correct RUU for it.
After a few days of research I learned how to install custom ROMs and I am running now CyanogenMod 10.0 Stable release with gapps installed as well.
Now here comes the question and hopefully someone with more experience in the Android field might be able to help me out.. Is there any chance of finding out the correct model of hardware so that I can then find the correct RUU for my phone? When I tried to update my phone using OTA the phone got this OTA package downloaded: OTA_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.17.707.1_0.23a.32.09.29_10.128.32.34a_release_299070u0mcx8aiaku8jgn4, would this be of any help in order to identify the correct RUU for my phone?
I have been searching around the internet since I got the phone and doing loads of research but unfortunately despite the fact that I learned how to use Fastboot to flash the ROM, recovery image etc.. I have not been able to find this piece of information which should allow me to restore my phone back to default...
Some of you might be wondering why would I want to restore my phone back to the factory settings since CyanogenMod is really cool and boot much faster... yes you are right, I love CyanogenMod but I am having a bit of an issue with the text and icons in my Android device.. basically the text looks a bit strange and some letters do not seem to display correctly as they have funny shapes.. also the buttons appear with lines on them... so this made me think that the wrong firmware might have been installed and that due to this my phone could having issues with the display... not sure if that might be the cause...
If you guys could maybe provide some help with this or maybe point me to a threat that would help me find out how to identify my RUU that would be fantastic... I have been looking into XDA forums for a few days and although I found lots of very useful info I haven't been able to figure out how to match/find the correct RUU for my device since my CID has been changed as I already mentioned...
Thanks in advance

First id like to say this is my first time posting in any forum. I do apologize if this is in the wrong spot. I recently got an unlocked galaxy s5. Its the sm-g900t so originally made for tmobile i guess but it was unlocked brand new. When i took it home i was using it and noticed it was running android 4.4. Obviously i went to the settings and tried to update to the newest OS. It searched but couldnt find any updates. So i download samsung kies, it said it found the latest version and downloaded it. I installed it and everything and now when i boot the phone i get tmobiles boot logo and all their bloatware. Is there a way, anyway to download an android OS that is completely stock like for an unlocked phone? When i got the phone and turned it on there was no tmobile boot logo or any bloatware. Ive been searching online and cant really find anything on it. If someone could help me out id be ever so thankful!

The reason it couldn't find any updates, is that the previous owner had installed a non-Stock Rom. By using Kies, you overwrote the firmware with Stock firmware.
You have a few options:
1) You can root your current phone and then de-bloat. This will keep WiFi Calling and you can decide what is bloat and what isn't. Titanium Backup can freeze apps you don't like, or there are several de-bloating methods on this forum.
2) You can install an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) based ROM. There are several on this forum (under Development sub-forum), and on the other SM-900 fora, especially the International S5 forum.
3) You can go with a CyanogenMod ROM.
The good thing about the SM-900T is that is has an unlocked bootloader, so you can flash to your heart's content.

My Note 4 N910T was the same way. I almost bet anything it's a Rent A Center phone. Just download the stock firmware and odin update and you will be good.
