i am traveling through Europe right now with a roaming data plan, but i am only getting 2g edge or even worse GPRS whenever 4g is unavailable (which is most of the time). I never get 3g. If I put my SIM in my old AT&T Tilt 2 I get on 3g just fine. Does the Amaze support 3g and how do I enable that?
The 4g is technically just really fast 3g.

you have to see what kind of towers are where you are, the Amaze supports the 3G 850,1900,AWS and 2100 bands IIRC, could be missing the one band that your tilt has and that the nearest tower puts out
On the energy rom 3g is shown with a 4G symbol. I don't know if it's the same way with other roms. A good way to check this out is to head to the icon changer in rom toolbox and see what your 3g symbol is.

i am using the bulletproof ROM.. how do i change the band so i can get the proper 3g signals?

hELLO,
sorry if I post here I don't know if its the right section. I'm looking for a phone for a friend that can be use either with t-mobile and att in 3g or 4g.
I know that they use different frequencies but I was wondering if there is a phone that supports both frequencies for 3g and 4g speeds, or if there is a way to change the radio and make it work. Thank you so much..
To find a 4g phone is not that simple as I thought.

Well at&t nor Tmobile has a true 4g network at this time. They both use a 3.5g network that they advertise as 4g.

Hi everyone, just had a quick question about LTE and cm9. Currently my phone displays an H, but if I was in an LTE area, would it say LTE or something else? Also will the default apn settings for cm9 enable LTE when I am in that area? Thanks!

In my experience, it will display the 4G icon in LTE areas, and the H for HSPA+ area's.
Right, In aosp the signal indicates exactly what it should, not those bs lies the carriers spit out, confusing people...
They have been selling HSPA as 4g for years, when it's not a new technology, it's just 3g better implemented, so it's like 3.5g.
Lte is the true new tech, so it's actually 4g, which is what aosp says.
E= edge 2g
3g= self explanatory
H=HSPA (what has been sold as 4g)
4g=LTE (actual 4g)
I'm going to switch to Tmo monthly 4G plan...
I know I9300 has no 4G but I would like to know whether it will be working?
Is it gonna automatically change to H+ or HSPA+ (something like that) or recieve no signals at all?
Thanks a lot.
It will move to HSPA when you do so if selected in settings. Most operators allow 4g users to switch back to 3g or 2g networks. Internet speed will be according to 3g coverage. But you should confirm that by calling the customer service.
Sent from Hell!!
it's obvious it will explode
sorry but this is a very boring morning... xD
NOOOOO! DON'T DO IT THE WORLD WILL END!!!..
Nah just kidding your speed will drop down to H+ nothing more.

Are you talking T-Mobile USA or in Europe? If you mean T-Mobile USA, you will only get EDGE (2G) data service.

u just wont get the LTE speeds, but it should work
I recently bought an unlocked Atrix 4g off ebay to use on my tmobile plan. Everything went smooth except that I'm having issues with slow internet. I've looked all over for a solution(youtube, google, xda forums, etc.) All I've been able to come up with was that until late 2012 this phone wasn't even able to connect to tmobile except on 2g, and a bunch of useless(to me) instructions on how to change my APN.
At this point the phone tells me I'm on 3g, and I consistently have 3-5 bars. My old sidekick had 4g in 90% of the area and 3g everywhere else, so I know for a fact that there is coverage. However when I do a speed test I get an average of 25-50Kbps download and upload, occasionally I get 170Kbps. I've called tmobile and verified that there is EDGE network support in my area(apparently also HSPDA but no HSPA+). I just installed GSM Singal Monitoring app from the play store which is also telling me I'm on EDGE network type.
I've tried every combination of APN settings I can find on the internet including cingular settings and have come up with nothing. This data transfer rates don't drop, and don't get better. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure it's not the phone, I can get 18Mbps at work on the wifi(running tests, downloads I've seen up to 4MB/s or 32Mbps). Also if there's anything I need to do on the phone to get internet speeds which requires root, I've already rooted the phone. The only thing I've installed since the root is CWM.
I have used both the Atrix 4G and Atrix HD on T-Mobile. The 4G does not have the radio frequencies needed for 4G / LTE data service from T-Mobile, but the HD does. In fact the HD is a perfect match for T-Mobile frequencies. You can check out the detailed specs for these phones on GSMARENA.

I also am on TMOUS, the best I've gotten is 5.3 Download 2.7upload on edge.
Im not sure why but I cannot use 3g.Not for a lack of trying though.(tried many apn settings,and even playing with the Dev radio settings)
I want to set the facts straight. The only T-Mobile frequencies that are compatible with the bands on our 'specific' devices are for 2G, Recently T-Mobile has refarmed their towers to support unlocked AT&T devices like ours, specifically they refarmed the towers in 'certain' areas to broadcast and receive 1900 mhz waves that our device's can use for 3G and so called "4G" If you only get 2G that's because there are no nearby towers functioning on the 1900 mhz frequencies.

I would like to add that I own an Atrix 4G on T-Mobile (in Chicago), and I get Edge, 3G AND HSPA+ signals. OP was correct in that the phone wasn't able to connect to the other bands except on 2G until about december 2012 (they expanded in order to entice iPhone users to switch providers).
But currently the MB860 (Atrix 4G) *does* work on HSPA+ (which is often called 4G, even though it is not true 4G LTE), which is still much faster than 3G.
post or send be a copy of your apn settings.I'm in Houston and they've reformed their towers here.

I've had this issues since I got my S5. TMO only gives me 4Glte and 4G, 2G. No 3G.. I only get 3G on custom ROMS like BlissPop 5.0. Any resolutions?

Why would you want 3G?
Having 4GLTE or 4G is a good thing..

Not when I only get 1 bar of it and full 3G bars from what i've experience on custom ROMS.
I dont think there is even icon for 3G in factory tmobile room. 3G and 4G pretty much fell under 4G. If you want to limit yourself to 3G only you may have to research some other forums with 3G tmobile phones and find older apn setting. They should work with S5 just with limited bands. I remember from my Note 2 days that for a while older apn (4G) worked much faster than newer fast.tmobile lte apn.

Tmobile does have 3g. What happens is during inactivity the connection falls back to 3g to save battery, and transfer very small amounts of data. When demand calls the connection than hops over to Hspa. Tmobile does this transparently to the end user on most devices. This is what they call there 4g network.
If you use international roms, you'll see the indicator change between 3g and H all the time. Same with the nexus line of phones.
