I used root explorer to rename HTC_IME.apk to HTC_IME.apk.bak and it removed touch input from the options. I did this after installing another keyboard. I was also getting a keyboard icon in the status bar, and it removed this as well.
The file is found under system/app and I am running Speed Rom. Not sure if this is possible on an odexed rom.
my amaze is completely stock..

Just installed gingerblur 3.1. Anyone find the keyboard a bit squished? I'm finding myself hitting a bit low on the spacebar. If I find I can't get used to it, is there a way to restore the old one?
I'm talking about while in landscape mode too by the way. Portrait mode seems better than stock

I completely agree with you here man. Loving Gingerblur but not a huge fan of the keyboard, and tried the moto keyboard posted on the Gingerblur OP page but I can't stand swype. I think I might reflash the SBF and pull the stock libjni_latinime.so and LatinIME then reupgrade to Gingerblur and push them to the phone via ADB using the method in this post here.
Worked great to restore back to the original Gingerblur keyboard after I installed the swype keyboard.
The motokeyboard. Zip file is not swype. However I found after lashing that zip I had to reboot a couple of times to get multitouch as an input option.

Well the title saids it all. I really like gingerbread keyboard but i love swype. How can install swype or if i cant then how can i just install swipe frojo keyboard instead? Im much better tipping with swype then just tipping.
Thanks
I don't think you can. Swype isn't just a function over the original keyboard; it's an entirely separate program itself.
You can install Swype separately, though. You can go to the Swype website and sign up for their beta. They send an email including a link to the apk installer. That's what I did when I was using a Nexus S.
But I wouldn't have thought you'd have to, given that the Vibrant comes with Swype. Are you sure you can't just select it in your settings menu? No matter the rom I've flashed, I've retained access to Swype on my Vibrant. Of course, they may have just included Swype. Not sure.
Hope that helps.
I have no clue what you are trying to ask.. but why not just use swype and a GB theme?
OR, use tasker and have it so portrait is swype and landscape is the GB keyboard.
The problem i have is that the trigger 3.2 seen not to have swype. I will edit the rom and replace the keyboard.apk
Thanks

Trigger comes with the Swype Beta Installer. If you have the beta, just sign in to it. If you do not have the beta yet, go to swypes website and register for the beta then open the app on your phone.
There are themes in the theme section for swype once you are up and running.
Tasker is an app in the market that allows total control over what your phone does.
So after two whole days of owning this phone I'm on ics, but I want the ics icons I'm on nova launcher to rid myself of sense so can it be done without using a different launcher

Yes sir... Desktop Visualizer
It allows you to put icons on your Sd card and set them for any application you want... i believe there is also icon packs you can use for it
I got the ics theme for adw and long pressed and edited and that worked also.

You can always go the longer route, if you want to change the icon throughout the entire rom. I use root explorer, extract the apk, replace the icon png, zip file, rename as apk, move back into system/apps. Reboot. I only do this on Sense so that I can still have the notification bubbles on stock apps (msgs, phone, task, etc)
im using the latest ruu leak (ics) and everytime i open the keyboard to type the input keyboard icon shows up in the statusbar... anyone else have this problem? how can i fix it?

Ok, thanks.. thats lame tho lol!
From what I heard is that if you only have 1 keyboard enabled then it won't show up. For me though, when I only have 1 keyboard enabled sometimes the icon will be there and sometimes not...buggy.

Its probably because HTC sense screws with ics too much
FWIW - It doesnt happen on SlimRom with the default keyboard, but does happen with the TouchPal keyboard.....
good to know. im planning on flashing slimrom in a couple days after the verizon engineers heck out LTE in my area

I could be completely wrong about this but my understanding of the keyboard icon in your taskbar was happening because you have an "installed" keyboard. It's not stock. The keyboard application is what is putting that icon there.
Well, lets just say Im not going to use the HTC keyboard.. I installed the ICS keyboard from the market, and am using it until, I decide if I wanna flash a new rom (aka slimrom) that has the aosp keyboard built in.
It only appears when typing. Using d3rp rom, everyone seems to hate this notification, but I find it very useful. I doubt it, but is there any way to get it back without flashing different rom? Is there a system apk that handles this that could be replaced without breaking the rom.

I think that happens when you have more than 1 keyboard installed and no default set
Sent from my Evo 3D CDMA using xda app-developers app
I do have more than one keyboard and on the stock rom the notification (which is a keyboard icon in the status bar) would be there regardless of default whenever a keyboard was in use. This was a highly useful feature allowing me to switch keyboards on the fly depending on input requirements. There are some really efficient keyboards that lack certain useful features like arrow keys and numberpads, being able to quickly switch keyboards is an effective way to get the best of all worlds. Why people found this so annoying is beyond me. The best I can do right now is use Tasker to replace it, but this notification will be there ALL THE TIME, not just when typing, now THAT is annoying.
