Hi guys, I have a Galaxy s2 which was purchased from ebay(never again)... Anyways, the phone appears to be working fine that is until I needed to charge the phone. After charging the phone and disconnecting the wall charger I get a message prompt onscreen that appears every 10 seconds or so saying 'over voltage please disconnect charger' or wording to that effect. If I reconnect and then straight away disconnect the prompt goes away. Also I installed kies, just because the ics official update was not showing on my device so wanted to install the update via kies hoping that upgrading may fix it. Whilst installing I get an error that 'samsung mobile MTP device' failed to install. Long story short is that I installed ics over my wifi but the same faults persist. I need to flash the rom that came with the device just so it doesnt cause any sillyness when disputing the auction.
Just another question, when I press and hold power, volume down and home the phone boots into odin, is that something that comes pre-loaded on the phone?
So, this is the info from my phone, could somebody point me in the right direction of the stock 2.3.5 rom for vodafone uk-

So do you think odin was put on the device?
Ok, I checked the link and I have already used the link before. I used the carrier stock rom link and flashed the last rom for vodafone uk. So as im on vodafone uk, does that mean that I can download any rom for vodafone uk or only the roms with matching device ID... basically the details from my first post?
How can I tell if this is gingerbread?

Mobile Odin is an app you will see it if its on the device .Not aware why it would start at download mode .

Well i was trying to update the kernel of the device to XWKE7 with ODIN. ODIN said the kernel was updated succesfully, but when i tried to turn on the phone after that, it gives me the logo with a yellow exclamation point. Also when the battery ran out i plugged it in and the counter was greyed out with a frozen circle in the center and now i cant even charge the phone. Is there any type of fix for this at all? Thanks in advance.
_Binary Flood_
well 1stly you need a charged battery.. maybe get one from your friend!
then put the phone in download mode..
connect the usb and flash a stock firmware through odin (and dont interrupt the process)
let the phone reboot..
pop your old battery in and charge it.. voila you are good to go!
got more ques?! PM me!

Dont know which firmware to choose though.
Its a G model as far as i am aware you require different firmware from the 9100 model .
Though i am not 100% sure as all i have seen is noobs telling posters to flash stock rom who then report a bricked phone . Check it out G is not i9100 .

use stockfirm ware that from your country is safer...
for my country need dzkj2 to able flash/root
latest firmware for my country is dzkl3
yellow triangle means custom rom...
try different firmware just check that works for your country-carrier and it's for 9100.
ok buddy got your puzzle solved out..
1. download the firmware from the link below.. xtract the files..
2. from the extracted files open odin
3. click on 'pda' button and select the file 'I9100GXWKJ2_I9100GODDKJ2_I9100GDDKI1' from the extracted files.
4. Make sure the battery is atleast 50% charged.
5. Put the phone in download mode.
6. Connect the device to the pc via usb. Wait for the drivers to get installed. Oncd the drivers are installed the ID:COM will turn yellow in the odin.
7. once the ID:COM turns yellow click on start.
8. dont disturb the phone or the pc when the process is going on.
9. Once it is done, the phone will reboot.
10. Your phone will be successfully unbricked then.

No offense to kjshah, but he's giving you un-informed advice.
1st - make ABSOLUTELY SURE what model phone you have. You've referenced T-Mobile USA for your carrier, a non-existent model number (SGH-I9100G), and a completely different model number above (GT-I9100).
Well, are you POSITIVE your model is GT-I9100? If you actually got your Galaxy SII from T-Mobile, then you DO NOT have a GT-I9100. You have an SGH-T989. If that's the case, you're in the wrong place. There's a separate forum for the SGH-T989.
If you actually DO have a GT-I9100, then you should probably be made aware; you will NEVER get 3g/4g on T-Mobile's network in the USA, regardless of what you do. Flashing a different modem will NOT help. The phone simply doesn't have the radio antenna hardware to pick up the necessary frequencies to operate on 3g/4g, and you will only ever get Edge speeds.
Check under your battery. That will have a label that has what your model number is. I believe the model number in your "about phone" screen is subject to change depending on what you may have flashed.
Model : GT-I9100
SSN : I9100GSMH
these 2 i found on the label on the battery and its from T-Mobile.

You can either get them from samfirmware.com, or look up checkfus.
As for that thread you linked above, a lot of file hosting sites were shut down that many devs on this site use. So you'll have to be patient for them to find new hosting sites.

Again, since the hosting sites many people used to host files are shut down, a LOT of links don't work.
It sounds like you are looking for a carrier branded firmware, but you didn't mention who your carrier is. As far as I know, Cosmote is a major carrier in Romania.
If you are looking for an UNbranded firmware, you may have more luck. Those are more common, and more likely to be hosted on a site that hasn't been shut down yet.

CSC is country specific settings. You can flash that separately after you flash the whole firmware I linked above. (which is PDA: XWKI4, and PHONE: XXKI1, but CSC: ENKI1)
But you may not have to flash the CSC.
Intratech had a whole list of the CSC files in his official firmware thread, but like I said before, with multiupload being shut down, you're going to have a hard time finding files that are still hosted somewhere.

I can't answer this; I don't know. Did you flash any non-stock kernels? If you did, then your binary counter increased. You may have to use a USB jig to put the counter back to zero. (please google this if you don't know - there have been hundreds of threads on it)
If the binary counter is 1 or more, they will probably refuse warranty coverage, and will probably then charge you for any service.

This is still pretty hard for me to understand, I'm sorry.
But really, there are no guarantees either way, once you've flashed anything to your phone. The only way to absolutely guarantee warranty service is to not flash anything to your phone, and keep it away from water.
The best you can do if you've flashed anything to your phone, is to flash back to a stock firmware, reset the counter, and hope for the best.

Friend. You can try Omega rom same as me, its a very updated and stable rom. There is many users from all around the world, incl Chinese using it.

You could try a 3 part flash if its available on sammobile.com
jje
I have the I9300 from mainland china as well. The one that boots up with the China unicom logo. I've managed to get everything working by flashing a stock china unicom rom, and then using mobile odin to flash a UK rom. Mobile Odin doesn't replace the bootloader, so even though I can now run stock UK firmwares and even custom roms such as CyanogenMod 9, the phone always boots up with the china unicom logo. Is this an indicator of a locked bootloader? If not, what else is preventing the flash from completing? the Partition Information Table? The CSC? If it's anything else other than the bootloader, then in theory shouldn't it be possible to flash a three part firmware? Repartition, and update the bootloader? I would think that this would result in a successful flash. I myself have not tried this as there is always the inherent risk of hard bricking the phone when playing around with the bootloader and PIT. If there are any more experienced xda members here, it'd be great to know what you think would work in this case.
Another Problem with Chinese Firmware
I appreciate the links. I'm downloading one of the firmware files now. Hope it works.
There's another reason why I don't like the Chinese firmware. The authorities have clumsily sabotaged VPN. If you try to turn on VPN service, the phone instantly crashes, allowing only emergency calls until you do a factory reset. Happened twice before I caught on.

Appreciate the link, and downloaded it. But it contains all the files in a .zip file, and Odin requires a .tar file. How can I convert .zip to .tar, and will Odin work if I do?
Thanks.

I think that zip is for CWM Recovery, so you'll have to get a stock Chinese ROM running first, and then install CWM, turn off signature check and then flash CWM through odin, then you can load the other roms into the SDcard using your computer and flash it through the recovery.
I have not this phone but found some info may be helpful.Goodluck.

That phone is NOT A GENUINE Galaxy S III. It is a chinese knock off, a fake.
This is what gave it away:
- MTK MT6577 1.2GHz processor
No genuine S III device use this processor.
therefore, you do NOT have a real S III device and none of the S III roms will work with your phone.
Besides, since your phone has Android 4.1.5 (sic, according to the page you posted), why the hell do you want an older Android?
If you're in doubt about your phone, use this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alxdroiddev.gs3identity
It will tell you if your phone is real or not.
Still Need rom?

If you still need the rom for the i9300_chn_chn, i can help you, with a mixed room, fussion betwen PHE ( spain) and CHN (China).
Works very well, the problem is the bootloader i locked so, you olny can install moden, and sboot, from china.
Ok for the procedure there is no problem, I have already informed.
But I would ask why one should change the firmware (in my case from I9300XXALF6 ita to I9300XXBLG8 uk)?
I don't care if the language of the cell is eng or ita, but if i have the uk stock i will get the official update quick then the ita stock?
And for automatic updates with the uk stock they came alone or i have to download and install the new uk stock?
Sorry for the noob questions but I do not know where to ask
no one can help me?
I Couldn't understand your question properly but I'll try to help.
Having a UK ROM would make you get all the OTA update's quicker (as of now).
In OTA's you only need to download a small bit of the ROM and you don't have to do anything. the phone will do everything on it's own.
But you have to download the UK official ROM from sammobile.com.
Hope that helps.
ty for the answer so the version is the same (uk stock and ita stock) but i get the update quickly right?
maybe the uk modem driver is better then the ita?

They are same but if you use a UK baseband/modem there is no guarantee that everything SHOULD work.
One thing is, it'll surely not brick your phone.
Try it, but it's not recommended.
so if there are problems i can go back with the stock ita doing the same i have do for the uk stock but this time with the ita stock?

Bumping posts in a very short time space is against the rules ..
No you don't get an update quicker you might but UK has never been first for all firmware .
Firmware is changed for a number of reasons by users .
One they want the latest good or bad must have new .
Two the firmware may have some improvements .
Modem has nothing to do with the Sim card .
Modems may work well for some networks not for others .
Updates come OTA or via KIES
If you change your firmware thats the firmware update ..
If your phone works well do not change the firmware .

Yes they are related and my first statement is true modem cannot break a sim card or make a sim card not work . Wrong modem can mean no connection despite the sim card being 100% .

hi, i flashed newest cm10 nightly and want go back to my stock because of warranty issues. but there a so many stock roms and i didn't know the one i've to pick because i don't know which firmware was originally on my phone. galaxy s iii (I9300) is from germany. which one should i pick?
thanks
Was your phone network locked if so you will need to find the latest ics build for Germany and flash via Odin and uroot if you are sending back for warranty.
If your device was unlocked you can flash the latest unbranded sw.

thanks for your answer.
i don't think that it was network locked. can you give me a link to the correct rom?
what would happen if the phone was locked and i flash the latest unbranded sw?
thx a lot
Use CHECKFUS to download the firmware and flash via Odin .

All the latest stock roms are at the beginning of this thread:

If your phone is network locked you will need to search elsewhere for your career specific version. These are unbranded roms just ensure you change the cschool to your correct region. Apparently it does not void warranty if you sent your device back with a stock unbranded Rom but you will be doing so at you own risk. You will also need to check that your flashcounter is set to 0 (search xda for full tutorials regarding this) all of the above is what I have found but may not be the full instructions follow so therefore please do your research first. I cannot be held responsible for anything that may go wrong. I hope I have been of some help.

My apologies that should be ''csc''. I wrote that post from my phone and did not notice that predictive text must have changed that.
If you go to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 and find the last DBT release (CSC for Germany) and download that.
Please bare in mind that DBT is the unbranded csc if your device was originally carrier locked you may need to flash that for example the csc for t-mobile germany is DTM.
If you hover the mouse over each csc on this page it will tell you the country and carrier
so i think i've found the basefirmware:
GT-I9300RWDDBT
but i don't find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
