why change the stock firmware? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok for the procedure there is no problem, I have already informed.
But I would ask why one should change the firmware (in my case from I9300XXALF6 ita to I9300XXBLG8 uk)?
I don't care if the language of the cell is eng or ita, but if i have the uk stock i will get the official update quick then the ita stock?
And for automatic updates with the uk stock they came alone or i have to download and install the new uk stock?
Sorry for the noob questions but I do not know where to ask

no one can help me?

I Couldn't understand your question properly but I'll try to help.
Having a UK ROM would make you get all the OTA update's quicker (as of now).
In OTA's you only need to download a small bit of the ROM and you don't have to do anything. the phone will do everything on it's own.
But you have to download the UK official ROM from sammobile.com.
Hope that helps.

ty for the answer so the version is the same (uk stock and ita stock) but i get the update quickly right?
maybe the uk modem driver is better then the ita?

They are same but if you use a UK baseband/modem there is no guarantee that everything SHOULD work.
One thing is, it'll surely not brick your phone.
Try it, but it's not recommended.

so if there are problems i can go back with the stock ita doing the same i have do for the uk stock but this time with the ita stock?

Bumping posts in a very short time space is against the rules ..
No you don't get an update quicker you might but UK has never been first for all firmware .
Firmware is changed for a number of reasons by users .
One they want the latest good or bad must have new .
Two the firmware may have some improvements .
Modem has nothing to do with the Sim card .
Modems may work well for some networks not for others .
Updates come OTA or via KIES
If you change your firmware thats the firmware update ..
If your phone works well do not change the firmware .

Yes they are related and my first statement is true modem cannot break a sim card or make a sim card not work . Wrong modem can mean no connection despite the sim card being 100% .

Rooted SG3 no updates available?

Hi
I have an SG3 unlocked and I rooted it. Baseband I9300XXLF5, Build IMM76D.I9300XXALF6
I haven't received any update and from Kies it show no firmware update availabel. Is it because I have a rooted device?
I checked in SamMobile but I don't understand which firmare or how I should download.

You can search firmwares by country/region.

I am also a bit confused with the number of firmware out there and wondering which is the latest. The only thing I know is the leaked JB firmware XXDLH4 > XXDLH6 and now the XXDLH7. Its easy to see which is newer but on the original firmware, so many different code and its just confusing

Regarding firmware based on region, I am from Blackberry. Its often ok or should I say OK to download firmware from other service provider as long the phone is the same model. Sometimes, your region or provider may not update their firmware so installing other provider's / region's firmware will actually be better. Some regions just seems to update their firmware much faster than others and providing improvements and fixes faster than others.

I will try using the Britain file.
Now that I am rooted of I need to update when JB comes out do I need to unroot?
The unroot process I've seen on YouTube imply a total wipe of the phone. A real hassle.
Any alternative?
Firmware is PDA not CSC.
Dev section Chainfires CF Root no wipe.

Warranty Issues: Back to stock rom but which?

hi, i flashed newest cm10 nightly and want go back to my stock because of warranty issues. but there a so many stock roms and i didn't know the one i've to pick because i don't know which firmware was originally on my phone. galaxy s iii (I9300) is from germany. which one should i pick?
thanks
Was your phone network locked if so you will need to find the latest ics build for Germany and flash via Odin and uroot if you are sending back for warranty.
If your device was unlocked you can flash the latest unbranded sw.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
thanks for your answer.
i don't think that it was network locked. can you give me a link to the correct rom?
what would happen if the phone was locked and i flash the latest unbranded sw?
thx a lot
Use CHECKFUS to download the firmware and flash via Odin .

All the latest stock roms are at the beginning of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
If your phone is network locked you will need to search elsewhere for your career specific version. These are unbranded roms just ensure you change the cschool to your correct region. Apparently it does not void warranty if you sent your device back with a stock unbranded Rom but you will be doing so at you own risk. You will also need to check that your flashcounter is set to 0 (search xda for full tutorials regarding this) all of the above is what I have found but may not be the full instructions follow so therefore please do your research first. I cannot be held responsible for anything that may go wrong. I hope I have been of some help.

My apologies that should be ''csc''. I wrote that post from my phone and did not notice that predictive text must have changed that.
If you go to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 and find the last DBT release (CSC for Germany) and download that.
Please bare in mind that DBT is the unbranded csc if your device was originally carrier locked you may need to flash that for example the csc for t-mobile germany is DTM.
If you hover the mouse over each csc on this page it will tell you the country and carrier
so i think i've found the basefirmware:
GT-I9300RWDDBT
but i don't find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610

[Q] can't find the stock firmware I9300DDEMB1

Please help! I've rooted my s3 & now want to get back to the stock firmware. My current Baseband version is I9300DDEMB1 (INDIA). But I can't find this in web. I mean my country's version is not available! Please can anyone provide me the link? It'll be a great help for me:crying:
Are you sure your samsung android version is that? Just because your baseband is, doesn't necessarily mean the Samsung rom is.
Just saying, because it doesn't seem to exist.

[Q] Change Firmware to another country

HI,
I live in Australia and bought an International version I9300 on line (French-XEF),
if I update my firmware to an Australian version will everything work like now, will it keep all current settings?
will KIES then recognise the AU version and prompt me when a new update is available?
Thanks

you can change to an Australian rom without problem, just make sure that the CSC is aligned as well as otherwise you won't get Australian OTA updates.

I think there should be some guide with more details somewhere, but basically the CSC contains provider/region specific things that are used during the OTA update process. Hence you have to make sure that, for instance if you select a UK ROM, BTU firmware, the CSC is aligned to BTU, otherwise OTA will not recognize it. Furthermore you need original status in about phone.
If you just want to use KIES, you can have root, whereas after upgrading with KIES it will be un-rooted. Hope it helps!

You do not need to provide your serial number, you should edit that out of your comment.
The N950F is part of the multi OXM CSC and is determined by the sim card you use.
Did you have carrier specific software on the phone before your mistake? If so, just download the latest filmware they provide and flash it with Odin.

It is not a rom. It just means that all the CSC's are included, Europe, UK, Ireland etc, which is then determined by the sim card.
The thread below contains everything you need to know and do on how to flash stock filmware for your country, which will fix your CSC if the rom changed it, or you did yourself in Aroma.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3677072
Did you flash Lineage OS? (Android 10) the signal bar is slightly broken, but apparently has been fixed in the latest build released today. If this is the case, you should have searched or asked in the thread of the rom.
