[Q] Screwed up, need help soon.(htc magic 32b) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

(i made sure to do a backup)
Let me sum up what I have done:
I've managed to follow a guide on a wiki(I lost the link however, since I ATTEMPTED to give up on this) that involved me downgrading my firmware, then do some steps to install cyanogen 1.4. Afterwards, I got to step that required me to rename some file to update.zip. I followed that step and noticed my computer didn't convert the file to a zip file(it remained as a img file) but continued anyway while finding that odd.
Afterwards, cyanogen tells me that it cannot find the zip file. I've search most of google and a bit of this site, and i've seen various solutions that failed me such as:
-renaming the update.zip to update
-using android sdk(which i have no clue on how to use)
Anyways, finding out that I was foolish to do all of this without prior knowledge, I decided to go back to my original firmware. However, on the phone's reboot, cyanogen came up again for some reason, and didn't let the update be applied.(I don't recall the error)
Anyways, I selected reboot and got to my phone's main menu then some music started playing automatically. I should note, before I did the update, I placed all of my backed up data(while still having the original copy on my pc) on my phone so it might've been some music that the original owner had. Now, on the menu, i'm getting this error "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." all the time. Since this error constantly pops up, I can't do anything.
So if you managed to read my long and boring story, let me ask one question:
How do I get my phone back to normal if rooting is impossible at this point?

First question is what firmware is your htc magic currently on? And by reading everything I guess your phone isnt rooted...

It's on 1.5 currently. Also as a little update:
I fixed the "not being able to do anything on the menu" problem by doing a factory reset. Afterwards, I learned the SDK a little bit more and have the tools, pc driver, and fastboot on my pc. However, i'm getting the error:
FAILED (remote: not allow)

Just a bump. I need all the help I can get on this one. Even a premade update.zip would help me GREATLY.

One last bump. I promise.

Root for 2.1 OTA Updated Phone???

Hello all, I'm new to this site and I've never rooted a phone. Actually, the Eris is my first smartphone. I've read a lot of forums about rooting the Eris and from what I understand I shouldn't have installed the 2.1 ota update. I bought this phone soon after they were released so maybe I have a 1.47 hboot? I'm unsure how to check this, but if so does this mean I can root using the 1.5 method?
I just bought a class 6 8GB microsd card with the hopes of installing a custom rom, overclocking, and installing apps2sd. Now I'm getting very discouraged because it seems 2.1 can't currently be rooted.
Hopefully a senior user can help me out. Please put your response in lamens terms. I've seen some other forums where junior users are getting bashed for asking stupid questions so I'm putting it out there....please don't bash me for this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684049
everything you need and more. To answer your next question. As long as your phone was never updated with leak, the process for root of 1.5 and 2.1 are the same.
happy rooting!
Thanks Spencer! If I root using the method at that page will I be able to flash other roms or will I be stuck with this 2.1 ROM? I'd like to install the evileris rom and (again I'm a newbie) I don't want to end up stuck like the people who installed the leaked 2.1.
you should be able to flash a custom rom to the phone as i believe you have to first load a custom recovery image to it. i could be wrong though just a guess.
SDK Not Working?
HELP!! I just rooted my phone, installed java, installed SDK and I can't get the command prompts to work. I followed the steps exactly (or so I think) and I'm opening sdksetup.exe. When I try to type I get nothing. Am I opening the wrong file or doing something wrong. I've not been able to install the recovery or custom rom to my phone yet, so I'm very vulnerable right now. Any ideas anyone?
Ok, maybe this is my problem...
Before the root, I could go into device manager from my computer and I got a yellow exclamation mark. After the root, I cannot find it. I can click on portable devices and it shows an Android Phone so I'm guessing my computer doesn't recognize it anymore. If that's the case I probably need to update the driver for SDK to work, but I need to find the device for that to work. I have USB debugging on. Any help is appreciated.
If it says android phone with no exclamation point that means it is recognized. Its when there is an exclamation point that means it is not recognized. I probably won't be able to help you further because I'm a rooting noob (I've only rooted my Eris and I had no problems) but I am a computer expert and I would suggest rebooting your computer and then trying it again... unless you already have.

What exactly do you mean when you say "I can't get the command prompts to work"?

Ok, calm down its not the end of the world, i ran into the same problem. What we need for us to help you, is at what point are you in trying to root your phone. Do you have SDK installed and updated?
I'm following the how to root instructions. I've completed I: Gaining Root and made it to 9. In II: Prerequisites. Java and SDK are both saved and extracted on my c: drive. I downloaded the USB drivers package in #6 of II. USB debugging was enabled and the phone was set to charge only. When I opened device manager on my pc, their was no yellow exclamation like the instructions indicated. I clicked on "Android Phone" and attempted to update the drivers found in SDK but Windows said they were up to date. I moved on to step III. Flashing a Custom Recovery and saved the zip file to my SD (should I save that to my c: drive?). I extracted it to tools in Android SDK and attempted to use the command prompt in SDK. It was unresponsive. It did not recognize my phone. I'm unsure if it does that automatically, if I need to take action, or if I should use the pc command prompt.
I went back to #9 of II and tried to troubleshoot. I tried every way I could think of to get the exclamation mark to show up in device manager so I could update the USB drivers. I hooked up my wife's unrooted Eris and it had the exclamation. I restarted my phone, restarted my computer, reflashed PB00IMG.zip and still had no luck.
Anybody had this probem? Any suggestions?

[Q] Boot problem!

Hi all! I'm really hoping that some Andriod guru out there can figure out the predicament I've gotten myself into. First a litte background info:
The other day I successfully flashed the new JI5 update to my phone. It worked great, and seems to have at least patched (not fixed) the majority of this phones shortcomings. But of course most of you already know all this.
I attempted to flash the same update to my wife's phone tonight, however as soon as ODIN finished doing it's thing the phone rebooted, and I now seem to be stuck in recovery with the following error:
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:copy default media content failed.
The process I used to flash the phone is pretty standard. Fired up ODIN, used ADB to throw the phone into download mode (Both our phones seem to be HW locked), pushed the update to the phone. The one thing I DID do differently this time was select the Re-Partition option, as I've noticed some strange issues with my phone since throwing JI5 on it. I figured that repartitioning the phone back to it's prestine state might fix the issues. I made sure to use the correct 512 PIT file, which I think I remember reading was responsible for setting up the system partitions, thus I figured I wouldn't have any problems. I've read about many others that routinely repartition their phones, so I didn't think this would be an issue. Her phone was bone stock, aside from being rooted. No OC kernals, lagfixes, etc.
I've tried to throw the phone back into download mode via adb, but it just reboots the device and it immediatly goes into recovery mode. Since the phone still boots and gets into recovery mode I'm thinking it's not bricked, but I'll be damned if I know what to do next!
So how about it, any guru's out there that have seen this problem before? Any way it can be fixed?
Update: Still borked and at wits end! Since I still apparently have the ability to reinstall packages via recovery I'm hoping that there is a way to reflash the OS by utilizing a crafty update.zip file. Based off what I've read so far, I simply need to reflash to stock OS to get things rolling again, but I can't get the damn thing into download mode! So close, yet so far away. Thank you Samsung QA! I guess this is what I get for not clockwork modding her phone prior to working on it. But still, frigging ridiculous that this company is sending out broken hardware and untested products.
If anybody happens to know a way to utilize the recovery console to flash a firmware revision (without using clockworkmod recovery), or possibly how to perform a fix action via ADB, any info you can lend to me would be much appreciated.
Bumping for the sake of my sanity.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this thing? I'm a hair's-breadth away from donating this thing to willitblend.
First I must scold you for not having Clockwork Recovery Flashed, it is the first thing you do when you have root. Period. Nothing else takes priority over being able to save your phone.
Secondly I must praise you for asking this in Q&A / General, NOT DEV! I FUC*ING HATE THAT! So thanks!
Steps to fix your wife's phone:
Step 1: Download attached zip, and put on phones internal SD. (adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip)
Step 2: Select Re-Install Packages from Stock Recovery Menu.
Step 3: Phone may reboot, if so see step 2. If phone enters clockwork go to step4.
Step 4: Flash Rom. Flash a full rom that is flashable via Clockwork. THAT OR::: try adb reboot download from clockwork.
Step 5: Reroot phone, install clockwork recovery (rom manager on market).
Optional: If all this doesn't work feel free to purchase my Vibrant, link in Sig
Edit: Also don't just do things you don't understand, like check repartition
Thank you sir! You're a saint!

Thanks for the fast reply! And yes, I feel retarded for not clockworking her phone. In my defense, I thought I knew what I was doing when I ticked the option, as I had read countless threads about repartioning the phone. I think the problem is that the JI5 update is an incremental update, not a full OS. By repartitioning and flashing I think the process removed some key OS files. Or not, I'm no expert when it comes to this OS.
Anyhoo, I tried pushing the file to the sdcard, however I am getting a permission denied error message. I've verified that the directory exists via the shell command, so I seem to be having some kind of a permissions problem. The root on her phone must have been undone, as when I try to enter SU I get the same permission denied error message. Is there a way around this?
Thank you for all the assistance thus far!
So while in recovery mode, I can see both drives showing up in disk manager and windows explorer on my computer, however they are grayed out. Typically at this point one would hit the "mount" button from the dropdown menu on the phone, but obviously this action is currently out of grasp due to my problem. Is there a way to manually mount the sdcard via adb?
I kind of figured that adb pushing stuff to the SDCARD didn't require root access, as I was always able to mount the two stores without root permissions from the phone...
I'm rather curious now. Has any one tried using the adb push command to copy files to the /sdcard directory on their phone without root? Everything I've read makes it sound like this should be possible, unless the phone is just that messed up.
Any and all replies appreciated!

Noob questions regarding Hasoon2000's All-in-one toolkit and rooting/installing ICS

Before I get bashed for not posting in Hasoon2000's All-in-one toolkit thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905), I would just like to say that I just joined the forum and wasn't allowed to post in the thread for questions/problems. With that out of the way, I'll start by saying that I have a HTC Amaze 4G (T-Mobile USA) on android version 2.3.4 and software number 1.36.531.6, not rooted and completely stock.
Background info: The reason why I want to root is because for some odd reason my amaze didn't get receive the OTA ics update. I checked for it manually just about everyday and I also did not receive a notification for a new software update. I also contacted customer service and they were no help. I would just like to root my phone and install ICS for now and later in the future install a stable custom rom that has sense 4.0.
Questons:
1. Does the Amaze have to be connected to the PC before the start of the first step(Install HTC Drivers)? If so, what is the screen on the phone supposed to be on(Is the phone supposed to be turned off or on? Is it supposed to be in disc drive mode? bootloader? etc..)?
2. Which recovery should I use after my bootloader is unlocked? and also what is the phone supposed to be on (bootloader, regular screen, other)?
3. How do I install ICS after successfully rooting?
I apologize for the long post and noob questions. I had an iPhone before getting the htc amaze and jailbreaking/unlocking was very easy whereas this seems to be a bit more tricky. If there is a thorough and detailed STEP-BY-STEP tutorial anywhere else, please let me know.
Thank You!

Thanks for the quick reply! Every time I manually search for the OTA update, it says "There are no updates available for your phone.", so I unfortunately can't update it OTA. I'm very new to all of this, so I don't know the terminology for a lot of the things on the forum. How do I make sure usb debugging is on and also what is a nandroid backup? Also, am I supposed to be on the bootloader screen the entire time?

Not sure if this helps...but this is what I did. I originally posted it on T-mo forum. At the very least it will put you in the ballpark...good luck. Just trying to help. These other guys know a lot more than myself. I'm sure the community will get you through it.
"Re: Leaked ICS in the wild!
Okay. Got it. Long story short:
1. Download file onto PC http://www.filefactory.com/f/40bba0821a54f264/
2. Put file on SD card (I recomend different SD card.)
3. After it is on SD card, rename file "PH85IMG" *** No ".zip." ***
4. Power down phone
5. Remove/replace SD card
6. Remove battery
7. Replace battery
8. Power up the phone hold "power button and volume down" at the same time.
9. Hboot will appear...let go of buttons. the phone will then start reading the SD card. "Checking PH85IMG"
10. After that instructions will appear. At the bottom of the info you will see the prompt: "Do you want to start update?" Now Volume up for "Yes."
11. Once you volume up for yes it will begin checking the files. (After some time it updated a few files and the screen went black. I hit the power button and and it started updating all files.
In closing you "WILL" lose all info, contacts, text, email and any other setting on the phone. It will be just like when you pulled it out of the box for the first time."
badgerdave made an excellent post and has it right - almost. I just want to clarify a couple of things.
First...he gave a link to the leaked RUU of the ICS OTA update. This file will install as he described WITHOUT requiring root and results in a phone in out-of-the-box condition - no root, with ICS 4.0:3 and Sense 3.6.
Second...the file must be named 'PH85IMG.zip' - WITH the .zip extension. A common mistake is to have file extensions hidden so when the file is renamed it is actually 'PH85IMG.zip.zip' resulting in installation failure.

yes so first before rooting or unlcoking anything download your carriers ruu but it in you sd card and boot to boootloder (vol down + power button) it will install then use hasoon tool kit to unlock boot loader then flash 4ext recovery then root then flash rom

Crashdamage:can I use the same process to go back to the original stock ROM prior to any OTAs? And here is why I want to do that.
I got my phone in January 2012. I received a message about an OTA. I did the update. My Plantronics Voyager Pro and 2-Explorers came in. I tried them out on the phone and the reception and range were completely horrible. 1-2 Ft. the Explorers had slightly better sound quality.
After some research on t-mo forum I found that there were others with the same problem. (The first Product Review that complains about Bluetooth issue was December 17, 2011. The first OTA was released on December 12, 2012. Coincidence?) Some of the people said their BT worked fine prior to the first OTA. T-mo's corporate line was "ICS will fix everything." I waited for ICS as long as I could and did the "Leaked ICS."
ICS did not fix the problem....but it did improve it from 1-2 Ft. to 8-10 Ft. It still has quite a bit of static. Therefore because ICS did improve the problem, I want to test the theory that everything was fine with the original ROM. Kind of a "test the theory" and "process of elimination."
Any help form you and the community will be greatly appreciated. I hope at the end of this I can take my findings back to the others that are having this same problem...some of them that have done multiple handset exchanges and still have the problem. -THANKS-
My question to you guys is, why root if you want to update to ICS? You do know all the OTA files are available and I wrote a tutorial to update your device manually using them, right?
I want to say it, but I won't, I'm not up for the rants, etc.
badgerdave, if I remember correctly, you're from the tmo community fora, right? You had an issue with your BT and someone posted saying theirs worked great when they rooted their device. You can try a few custom roms, but nobody is definite on your end result until you do it.
Also you guys need to quit using those slow filefactory uploads, devs, RC's, myself included uploaded those files to dev-host accounts for faster, easier downloads, those links can be found in the stock ruu/ota thread, use those and PLEASE READ the dev section, there's updated post and links on the very first threads, I don't get why there's a need to dig up older threads with outdated files/info for something so simple.

Yes DN that is me. But...I'm am not an anomaly where this BT issue is concerned. I have dated it back to the first posted product review
(December 17, 2011) that listed the BT as an issue...others came after. December 17 is 5 days after the first OTA. There are no bad BT reviews prior to that date.
I am not trying to be difficult. I actually downloaded the PDF for the Amaze Bible and installed it onto my rooted HP Touchpad. I read what you are talking about. (Keep in mind that you guy do this stuff all the time with multiple devices. This comes easy to you. Not so much for those of us that get directed to this forum because our questions and problems surpass the T-mo site.)
That being said..I'll just try my hand at using this link: http://d-h.st/8pm to get what I think I need and then try installing it like I did the first "Leaked ICS"
Thanks for your help.

Not that no one believes in you, but think about this for a minute, many contributors, devs and regular users alike here saw the issue many were having, saw how complicated getting things done were, so we put as much time into making this all simple, I'm talking months of work, endless hours of typing and research to simplify things here, so for you to say you're unable to find things here, that kinda hurts, I myself worked on making the ICS update as simple as possible, I've posted multiple times, more than I can count on how to fix soft bricks and how to restore to complete stock, so you can tell how hard it is to believe when people say we're not helpful and we don't make things simple, if you have a question, ask it flat out, I'll be straight with you that I know what you read and did not read, I can tell you exactly where everything can be found for this device and I've been here a mere month or two, you know what? It's pointless, no point in me saying anything anymore, I guess I should just follow suit of every other contributor around here and just move on to another device like they all did/doing.
So have a nice day, if you can find what you're looking for in the amaze bible thread, PM one of the writers, sure they'd be glad to help, they always have been and always will be very nice helpful individuals.
New motto: I am officially out of the amaze forum.

badgerdave made an excellent post and has it right - almost.

I tried the steps given and everything was going fine until step number 10. I never got a prompt asking to update my phone. Instead it just took me back to the hboot screen with the three androids skating at the bottom with the options: fastboot, recovery, factory reset, clear storage, simlock, image crc. I already had an ICS file downloaded from previous trials to install it, so I didnt use the link you posted, not sure if that matters or not. Anyways, I tried to hit recovery and then a picture of a phone with a red exclamation mark showed up. I then hit the volume up button and power at the same time. Then i went to "apply update from sd card" and then i got an invalid operation and the phone just rebooted normally without applying any update. Any ideas?

First of all before getting to a solution, you need to point out your device info, that way nobody would be guessing, so provide the following and we'll work from there:
hboot version:
software version currently:
s-on or s-off:
bootloader unlocked: yes or no
carrier:
from there solving your problem would be very much more simple.

The bootloader is locked, The carrier is T-Mobile USA. Im running on Android version 2.3.4 and the software version is 1.36.531.6. I also took a look at your tutorial for installation before I tried to do it myself.

And what exactly was your result of attempting to manually update via the OTA files? Answer asap, I'll just move you on to the next method of getting it done via the latest leaked file if you can't get it done via the ota file.

Whenever I would manually search for the ICS update OTA, it would just say that my phone was already up to date (even though I am running on GB). Should I try to re-download the T-Mobile OTA file on 4shared that is on your tutorial? And then rename it to "PH85IMG.zip"? If not, please guide me to the next option/step. I really appreciate the help!! :good:

Redownload the ota file from here: http://d-h.st/tdM
Once you download it, place the file on your external sd card, not in any folders, just on the sd card.
Turn your device off
volume down and power on to boot into hboot
select recovery and wait for it to reboot
it should give you a red triangle error, ignore it and press volume up then power button
a recovery menu should pop up, once you see that menu, use the volume buttons to scroll down to the install update from external and hit power to select
it should give you a list of all the files on your sd card, use the volume buttons to highlight the file you downloaded and hit power to select, it should begin updating your device.

Yeah I expected that, seems only s-off users can proceed with that method.
This one should work fine though.
Download this file here: http://d-h.st/3VD
rename it PH85IMG and place it on the root of your sd card the same way you did the last file, it has to be named exactly that and in caps
reboot into bootloader, volume up when the file finishes loading, it's gonna install the update and reboot itself, let it boot properly, first boot may take a few minutes.

The file is downloading right now. When I put the ICS file on the microsd card, do I rename it to "PH85IMG" or "PH85IMG.zip"? I'm also assuming that I have to follow the same steps you gave me on my last attempt to install?

just PH85IMG, don't worry about the .zip part, it's already there, just not visible, no do not use the same steps, follow the steps I outlined above when I specified the file and what to do with it.

[Q] Huawei U8860 Read-only file system

Hello Everyone,
I badly need help on my Huawei Honor U8860 phone. I have recently updated it from 2.3.6 to 4.03 over WIFI and the update went smoothly. So now here is what my phone have:
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-perf-00059-g3a757a2 [email protected] #1
Build Number: U8860IV100R001C00B923SP01
I have not rooted the phone at this time. It was working fine until 2 days ago when I started getting messages on the screen like:
"Unfortunately, 2D Home has stopped"
"Unfortunately, Google Play has stopped"
"Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped"
"Unfortunately, Settings has stopped"
"Unfortunately, Google Play Music has stopped"
"Unfortunately, Browser has stopped"
And so on, and so forth. It seems that all apps and processes have stopped when I try to use them so I literally can't use the phone. I went through several threads here just trying to restore my phone back to a
working state. I tried to do the following in order but without success:
1.) Factory data reset / erase everything - the phone boots to the recovery menu then it formats the /Data, /Cache and /HWUserData then it reboots. After reboot, the phone is back to where it was before the factory data reset with everything in it including downloaded apps.
2.) Manually uninstalled all downloaded apps. Removed screen lock (just to see if phone behavior changes). Then rebooted the phone but after reboot, all the apps are still installed and the screen lock is back as well.
3.) I tried to Force Update with the following official ROMs: B886, B919 and B923 but I always get the message "Update failed" during the update process.
4.) I downloaded the file "recovery-u8860-en.img" so I can replace the "recovery.img" file . Rebooted the phone w/ the pink screen and connected it to my PC but there is no USB mass storage device mounted.
5.) Finally, I tried to root the phone. I enabled USB debugging. I installed the ADB drivers then I downloaded the U8860 root tools and rootexplorer.apk. When I ran the "root-me.cmd", it tried to copy some files to the phone but it failed. The error was "read-only file system".
So it seems that the problem is because of the "read-only filesystem". I does not permit/allow any changes made to the phone. Can you help me restore my phone?
Please.. Can somebody help me on this?
Thanks, clint2rose

I still did not find any solution for my problem. I read from this thread that all ICS versions can be downgraded.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552038&page=232
Is there a way to downgrade from B923 to B919? I think this will solve the problem I'm facing.

try to back-up some of the data form the partitions that are full on your phone and delete them, maybe afterwards the stock-rom-flashing procedure will work again.

thanks for the reply. it did not work. I even formatted the internal SD. Re-run the firmware update but it failed. when i boot the phone, all the contents of the internal SD remains intact. any other suggestion?
I can remember there was some talk of "downgrade patches" to flash before official ROMs if downgrades failed

what do you mean by flashing your current ROM? Just like any other stock ROM put the dload folder on the sd-card and start the update procedure either from the settings menu or via the boot-key-combination.
Yes the way you discribed is the correct one for flashing those patches, If those patches also don't work, I'm out of ideas, sorry.

Thank you once more for your time. Most of the thread I read regarding these patches often used the phrase" you have to flash the current version of your ROM using the patch"...
And yes I created dload folder, place the UPDATE.APP and put it on the sdcard. I turned off the phone and removed the battery. Then I pressed vol+ vol- and power on/off button. The firmware update went to about 70% installing before displaying update failed.
I guess I will have to bring my phone to a repair center. My only problem is that there is no Huawei service center at my place (I reside here in Saudi Arabia). I got the phone as a free device on a broadband package and the warranty is already expired. I'm a little worried to take the phone to the small mobile repair shops as they might screw up the phone even more. Huawei is not a popular device here unlike iPhone, HTC and Samsung Galaxy.
As I understood that your device is rooted, you should get some custom ROM and try to install it.

you don't need to be rooted, you only need to have a custom recovery deployed (which you can either do with root permissions, or by using the pink screen method, but some newer stock roms (you said your on 932 or something? last non-locked working is b919) this has been locked and the device will not boot if the kernel or the recovery image has been manipulated.
I think you will have to find some (huawei-certified!) repair-center, small do-it-all phone-shops probably won't be able to take care of this problem for you.. I'm sorry but I don't see any other solution

Ok. I will try to find a repair-center experienced in Huawei devices. I have one last question if you don't mind. Is it possible to erase everything on the phone? As in completely erase or reformat after which there will not be an operating system on the phone. I read in some threads that this is possible w/ custom recovery but I want to know if it is also possible for phones without the custom recovery. I'm hoping there might be some tool or something..
U8860 not responding

Have you find the solution yet? I have the same problem. Somehow my phone system is "locked". I can't install or uninstall app. Some google apps keep showing not responding. Everything changes i made, keep showing up after the phone rebooted.
This was happen a few days after I upgrade to ICS B932SP01 and rooted my phone (to remove original chinese apps).
Luckily i have friend in huawei indonesia. He gave my u8860 to the technical support. But the result was no good.
They try everything, even install my phone with the original GB and always failed.
The last suggestion is change the phone machine, which is as same as buy a new phone.
I really appreciate is someone can help me here...
Thanks

First step: Don't panic!
Second step: Tell us which version of the G2 you have (carrier) and which update you had on before things went south, and also which version of TWRP you have.
Third step: Please explain what you mean by it not turning on but plugging it into the PC shows odd things.
Does that mean you CAN still get into recovery? Can you get to download mode? But either way, just stay calm. I just helped my buddy with the ATT version fix his phone from a similar issue a couple of days ago and I have also played with the Sprint version quite a bit and am familiar with LGs in general. Lemme know these things and I can help get you back on the right track.
Can you get into recovery mode?
If you can, try the factory reset and reboot your device.
Does your phone connect to adb?
If so i guess you could flash a fresh rom from there.
Correct me if i'm wrong, i am a new user with slight experience.
Same Thing Happened to Me
I'm freaking out a bit as well. I tried the Flashify method of installing TWRP and got the error message followed by a blank unresponsive phone. Got there via a "Phone Tech Kid" video explaining how to install TWRP. Plugging it into my computer results in being able to open a "drive" with one folder titled "image". The image file that I flashed is 2.6.3.2-g2vzw obtained via a link from this video:

Probably would be best to start your own thread. However, what update were you on? I'm hoping that you do have the Verizon version of the G2? What error is on the screen? But generally speaking, you should be able to boot to the software update mode and re-install the stock OS with the kdz file, for most G2 things. I haven't worked on a VZW one though, only Sprint and T-Mobile ones and they're all a bit different.
