I was rooted and had CM7 installed, but SBF'ed back to 2.3.4 this weekend because of the WIFI and GPS issues. Coincidentally the phone did work better with CM7, but I needed my GPS and WIFI and couldn't stick with it. SBF'ed back to stock 2.3.4 and same issues as before (bad phone lag, multiple daily reboots, etc.) Called Verizon and they are sending me a replacement Droid X2... (blah, nut if it works correctly, I will be fine with it till later this year)
So, I am just wondering if I am going to have any issues with my return. Is there any way they can tell we were rooted? She said if they find anything or if there was damage (which there isnt, been in otterbox case since day 1) that it would cost me $299.00... Theres no way I want to pay that for another Droid X2, and was just worrying myself. Any other rooted useres who SBF have any issues with returns to Verizon?
Nah, you're good. I've returned two SBF'd phones that had CM7.

Oh, I see you have an iPhone 4S... How do you like it? Our upgrades are up in November, but they offered to upgrade my wifes DX for an iPhone last night... Strange so early. But we had already decided to get iPhones next go around, but wanted to wait and see what the iPhone 5 will be... I love Android, but have been really let down with every phone I have owned so far...
I sent a Droid x and 2 Droid x2 all rooted and sent back after sbf. No issues. If I was you I would activate the new one wait about 6 hours and call back with the same complaint and ask for possibly a different deivice like maybe a incredible 2. Worked for me you would not be sorry! Unlocked!!
Its going to suck if your new DX2 comes back with Android 2.3.5 (or whatever their latest version is) on it. Apparently it can't be rooted.

Yeah, but it's confirmed you can SBF back to 2.3.4, so its not really a big problem.

Hrmm, hadn't heard about this. I'll keep you all updated and let you know what comes on it. Like the other guy said, if I get it and it has any issues, im calling and getting something else. I should have demanded Samsung back when I had the Fascinate replaced. Its what I bought and generally liked Samsung over Motoblur.
I'm sure it will have the new junk on it. No root. Can sbf. No big deal.

Wow, I have had that issue... I never thought about it being a bug... most of the time I just ignored it but did think it was odd after a reboot how it would change! Most of the time it was as it I had charged my phone but I hadnt... Thanks for the info!
The ultimate joke would be if OP got a new DX2 with the updated 2.3.4 thats should be out in a bit and if it got rid of rooting or bricked SBF's.
Thats why you guys gotta complain to them so you can get an early upgrade to something better. Like the Rezound or S3 like I'm currently waiting for.

Honestly, I am not worried about it. Funny thing was I called about my phone and they offered an early upgrade to my wife... who also got her phone the same time as me and wasn't due till November. Not quite sure why. They said I could use her upgrade.. yada yada... but I am waiting right now. Want to see what the next iphone is gonna be and make my decisions then. I have been thru 5 or 6 phones now and three different models and I am willing to check out an iphone. That is, if it is 4G. Not wanting to be stuck with 3G for another 2 years...
But I am not worried about rooting this new phone. Gonna leave it on stock and let it screw up and I am sure they will offer me something else...

Eh, I wouldn't say so. I've had mine now since September. I flashed one of the first Team Whiskey Froyo roms in November, I believe. Since then I've tried mixing up roms a couple times a month. Recently I installed an FFC and CM7...which I hope to stick with for a while now.
I know what you mean though. You just have to keep yourself busy with it because there really aren't THAT many phones which can keep par with ours. I've had my share of iPhones before this phone, and I was amazed by the capabilities of this compared to that or the original Nexus
So.. Its NOT just me who thinks this! Whew! Boy am i glad.
Anyways i just dont get those orgasams from flashing roms anymore.
I havent flashed a rom in 1 abd a half weeks!!!
I know right I loved it
It was so exciting

I guess it's a matter of where your preferences lie. I know that when I was trying out new ROMs, it was like Xmas morning - opening presents to see what new gifts I'm getting. But at this point, I just need the phone to do what a phone does.
Once I installed, Trigger 2.6, I hung up the whole trying out new ROM thing, and just enjoyed the stability. I still love the Vibrant every time I pick it up. There are little quirks that get to me, but the screen is really really nice.
I get that once in a while, but then again I anticipated it. I know at some point, it'll just be a phone to me, and I'd use it as a tool and not a toy. The problem is that there is always something bigger and better coming out and you'll never be satisfied with what you have.
The phone market changes daily. I still love my vibrant, it does everything I need it to do and no phone matches it's screen quality. I have also hung up flashing roms, at least until CM7 finishes Ginger
I don't see a phone that competes yet for me until SGS2 comes out. No point in buying a new phone until then.

I've used both..
as far as looks, trigger wins no doubt.
Speed both have it..
but for some reason sweet honey is a bit more snappier.
It's nice to know I'm also not alone. Don't get me wrong, I still love the phone and I don't see myself getting rid of it for any other phone for at least another 6 months, but it's lost that amazingness it used to have. I remember flashing my first rom (I think it was something by Sombionix before his TW days) way back in the summer. I remember waiting for GPS and then Froyo. I remember how great it was to get that very first Froyo leak and think "Now we are cooking!" Now developers are dropping like flies. Other phones have CM7 and it's completely stable yet our CM7 just feels too much like a beta. (I know most things work, but it's just not as stable as I need)
I think this phone, and the SGS in general, had so much potential, but it was ruined by crappy Samsung software. I can only imagine where we would be now if we had stock Android out of the gate. Once again, I love the phone, I just think it fell a little short of its full potential.
I thought I could get over not having a camera flash, but when I need it that makes me sad. The poor gps doesnt help my feelings either. I will keep it untill something I really want comes out.
I dunno, I'm pretty thrilled with my phone..... I flash a new ROM every week or two (latest is Frost). I love the multifunctionality of the thing, Samsung made killer hardware and TW's software is excellent. I for one am pretty sure I'll be sticking with Samsung for at least one more phone....
Only cons here are no camera flash and no 4g.
I am fighting with myself when It comes to flashing roms. I cant seem to flash away from simply honey.
So to deal with my need to flash I end up flashing other peoples phones!
Yup man especially when I had the g1 and the hero roms started to begin developing

Well guys I look at this as a blessing in disguise. I woke up to a couple random reboots two days ago. Did all the normal troubleshooting except for sbf. Called assurion since I lost my X and they had none and gave me a X2 that has been a torn in my side. I thought it was gonna be better and have been quite dissapointed.
After assurion insisted on troubleshooting all they same things I did already, after factory resetting I could not get connected to server to activate. Rendering my phone in even worse condition. They said they would mail me a replacement.
I asked if the were any other options, last time we talked the best they could do was a incredible2, which I declined. I played dumb and asked if there were any other dual core 3g phones since I wasnt happy with the tegra 2 based phones. I told them I had read alot about the droid x2 and many people have been unpleased, maybe it was like getting a new model car and they say to wait for the following year so they are able to tweak everything. Kinda like tegra 2 and now all the phones are using the omap dual core. She offered me the droid 3 which I jumped all over, which is what I wanted last time I called in.
I am not a X2 hater, I loved my X which unfortunately I lost. I thought the X2 would be so much better and not need all this hackery to make it something.
What has me plesantly surprised with the D3, which is only rooted and debloated, no scripts, roms or anything else, is I just scored a 2047 on quadrant. Blew away my X2 score on smartbench and antutu came in right under sgs2. Now that had me impressed, since with my X2 on the atrix rom with scripts and all the goodies the best I could get in quadrant was 1700s.
Having a keyboard again is nice, its a world phone, 1080p recording, front cam as well, 3d motoblur is very desirable, and the pentile looks better a bit smaller. I really like this phone as a replacement to X2.
So after putting this out there, I know there are tons of unhappy X2 owner, so if you can figure away to get a droid 3 from assurion, you know what I mean, which shouldnt be hard with all the issues the phone has, GO FOR IT, you will be very surprised.
Oh I forgot to mention they also sent me a free car charger and earpiece, which probably doesn't cost them much, but was a nice surprise. They must several unhappy people with the X2s they decide to give out in place of X.

I don't know about anyone else, but my X2 out of the box always scored about a 2300-2400 on Quadrant. Using Eclipse I get 2600-2900 regularly.
Also there are a few other things I notice with my X2. The biggest thing is that tons and tons of people complain about music skipping. I have never had this problem at all on my X2 not even once playing V0 VBR MP3s on 2.2.2, 2.3.3, 2.3.4 stock or Eclipse.

I hope so. I like sense but also love aosp. Like to switch between them. Also wouldn't mind running some miui once in a while either. I talked to Droid vicious and if this phone gets unlocked and I could get him a phone he said he would take a shot at porting miui like he did for the tbolt.
Dev's said ~2 months for CM9, so don't be upset if we don't get MIUI before then either.

Yeah hah I hit 30 Mbps DL today on a speed test, averaging 24-27 8). Upload 4-10 Mbps nerd boner, must change pants. Eventhough these are no where near "True 4G" speeds it's still better than 85% of the US. But we are WAY behind in terms of internet speeds/technology. I also think theres going to be more dev for this phone compared to the Inc 2. Seeing its a DC device w/ 4G and a HD screen, I'm sure a decent amount of people have purchased this phone.
Edit: Ijust messed my pants harder I got 41.4 Mbps just now D:. I am jelly of the guy that got 70 mbps though, hopefully 4G will pick up here.
The Amaze still doesn't have true S-Off. I am sure that we will get it.
I sure hope we get s off.I only have 14 days to return because I bought on launch day and I don't know what to do. This is the only phone I want from Verizon and I don't have another upgrade on any of my 5 lines for a year and I can't be stuck with a phone I can't have any fun with for that long. Wish we atleast knew the bootloader wasnt encrypted and that its going to be possible so we could atleast stop worrying. I know nobody's owes this phone anything but it would be nice to know for people in my situation.
I have gone through 9 replacements trying to get the right phone over the last couple of months and am getting tired of it, what's everyone's opinion about switching to the nexus? I have to admit CM9* and MIUI are a big plus.
i just got a nexus and i love it, battery life seems alot better too. i will say the design of the rezound is better though.
I traded my nexus for my rezound a while ago and never looked back.
love this phone.
the nex is nice, but sense is what I like, I also found the overall build to be better on the rezound, (usually is with HTC..)
I came from a nexus for 2 reasons... 1) The radios are terrible on the Nexus. In my house, my wife has a Thunderbolt and I had the Nexus. Side by side, she would have 3 or 4 bars of 4G, me on the Nexus, like 2 bars of 3G or 1x. also the build quality is much superior to the Nexus. 2, I Luke the challenge of rooting lol. I had a Rezound before but I never rooted it. Traded for the GNex when it came out. I feel its an overall better experience with my rezound. If Ur looking to easily root and have a plethora of dev support, get the Nexus. If u like better radios and built quality, stick with the Rezound.

ive actually got 2 of them.since i could s-off my first one, i keep the dev phone put up for emergencies.
ive found the rezound to be of the same quality as all other htc phones ive had. i drive for a living, and my phone rides around all day with me,sometimes getting to 120+ degrees if i leave it on the seat in the sun. ive flashed it,s offed it twice, flashed the crap out of it some more, dropped it,and in general abused the crap out of it.
i loved stock ICS and wanted to love the gnex since it it googles proprietary phone, but to me it felt cheap and plasticy.

I have NEVER sent a phone back due to pink buttons, no matter how much I dislike them. The first four were when I first got the phone, since I came from a droid charge and was comped this I got a refurb. First one had dead pixels, second one had the hissing audio jack, third one had a giant scratch on the screen, fourth one had a blown speaker, the fifth one was just right. Fast forward five months my "just right" phone would go through an extended and a stock battery in 12 hours, completely stock, never unlocked. I was annoyed and got a replacement. The first replacement was fine for a week and then went nuclear on my battery (literally got so hot that the stock battery bloated (yes I know that means the battery also went bad) It almost did the same thing to my extended as well. Fast-forward to yet another phone and this time battery as well, everything seems fine except for the giant scratch on the screen, I swear ti was in the same spot as the one from five months before. Then the next phone, got it, s-off'd it, working perfectly for two days except for pink buttons but **** it, and then I realized I've never made a call with it. Called my father and sure enough the damn speaker is broken, yes I tried on different ROMS and completely stock just to make sure, I know what a blown speaker sounds like. Now I'm on the ninth phone which seems okay for now but I'm still endlessly frustrated with the damn things. Plus I love MIUI. I just wish the build quality was better on the gnexus and I hate samsung's placement of ****ing buttons. It's like they expect you to have the hands of a 4 year old and be able to hit the awkward side button while it's in your hand.
I think everyone who leaves this phone just to get AOSP is crazy... Eventually it will come. In the meantime, there are lots of great roms to try out in the meantime. If you have other problems, I completely understand. But cmon.... Just for a rom?

I mean it's all about opinion. I could see me leaving a Samsung phone if I wanted sense more or aosp if it wasn't available.
But it sounds like you should give the Gnex a go OP. What's the worst that could happen? You just come back.

Yeah that was my thought, they would probably let me come back if I hate it.

i agree completely. im not a sense fan either, but IMO this is still good harware and worth the wait. like you said, lots of great roms in the mean time. scotts dev edition is an awome "best of both worlds" rom with the ICS theme,no sense launcher or widgets, yet the "prettiness" of the stock menu and pulldown. im enjoying it alot.
it helps that i can run a pretty functional cm9 on my sensation while i wait

I just wish the build quality was better on the gnexus and I hate samsung's placement of ****ing buttons. It's like they expect you to have the hands of a 4 year old and be able to hit the awkward side button while it's in your hand.

Completely agree, their bootloader is WAY less fun. At least, if it's anything like the fascinate and the charge it consists of a down arrow with a yellow android that looks pretty while you use odin to flash everything since their bootloader is half-assed.
I also would like to say that I do love our devs, and this is not meant and is not me being frustrated with them, simply my luck with regards to getting a functioning device which has lead to a lot of frustration. Regardless of if I switch I still have another rezound that I have access to and can use whenever so I will still be active in this community... I am simply asking the opinions of people who have or have had both devices (IE Scotty). Hell I would take a shot at deving if I had the time, I have experience with linux and coding in Java and Lua. Anyway I do understand the frustration when people post things like the "HAHA I SOLD MY REZOUND *****ES" thread (my translation of the title) where they seem to be bragging/flaming rather than actually trying to consult the community.
I would like to say I don't particularly appreciate the assumptions that my devices could not have possibly needed to be replaced that many times legitimately. I just have had terrible luck with the replacements themselves, almost all have arrived defective if you read my explanation above. I have never bricked a phone and I'm not particularly fond of some of the stories where people go "ops I bricked it, lawls, hey Verizon my phone is dead send me a new one because I ****ed the damn thing up and enjoy committing fraud."

its a little better than that. you can use fastboot to do a few things, but it was still pretty devoid of any user interface, unlike hboot. radios were flashed in recovery. you unlock it pretty much just like the rezound, with exception that you dont need a token just fastboot oem unlock anhd voila you have access to everything.
Against my own advice of buying a Nexus I am about to buy a Dinc4G off contract and simply because I broke my Dinc2 screen two times in a row...
How is the Dinc4G? Any issues (software or hardware glitches)? I want to ensure that it is a good phone. I know it has great specs, but that is half the story. The other half is living with it (and I learned from my experience with the Droid X2 and Transformer prime)..
So any issues at all? Or is it smooth sailing?
EDIT: OMG! I bought the phone!
Now please god, let me make up some of that cash from the Dinc2 sale.

i would say smooth sailing, well the sdcard thingy, but the only problem i have had is waiting for root.
I like mine. It's noticeably faster than the Incredible 2. I bought a 64GB SDCard from Amazon for $44.
I think you'd like it. S off is coming. I liked the og Inc better than my Inc 2 and the 4g reminds me of the first incredible. And you already know the devs are good ones.
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:18 PM ----------
One thing is my first 4g had about 10 dead pixels so I got a new one. The new one has some of the back light bleeding from the bottom bezel though but that's nbd to me
the form factor is closer to the og inc than inc2 (though not *That* different)
i have no complaints with mine, and plan on keeping it for a long time...even when the dlx/dna launches (ill just swap sims when i want use one or the other)

Hold on a sec! You said what now about SD cards? I guess it shouldn't be major issue but I'd like to hear moar!
I am about to finalize the deal and I don't wanna over think this. Yes, I was an idiot to drop my Dinc2 and crack the screen for a second time, and it cracked easily since I probably didn't install it properly first time around. And yes, it is gonna be expensive to go off contract, but anywho... i hope the resale value for the Dinc4G is good ones my upgrade comes around.... :/
Man, do I know how to waste good money . Anyway gang, I will shortly join you and we can continue our crusade of the missing OTA update for Key Lime Pie... (4.2, I guess, ain't it!)
Welcome back to the land of Dix! Thanks all! I hope I don't mess up my future phones like this... It is only after you drop and break a phone you realize that you have to treat these devices like babies... Don't Drop Them!
Personally, I like mine but the build quality has been questionable. I took my first one back after a day of use because the screen was discolored, used the next one for about a month with a creaky battery cover before a crack started forming at the headphone jack, and finally the one I have now seems acceptable. The only design annoyances I've found are that the camera lens clicks as it focuses (bad for video) and the buttons don't have much feedback. Reception could be better, but it generally works fine.
Other than that, good software, good screen, good battery life.

the sdcard issue is the internal sd, will not let you transfer apps to the extsd, but root might cure that, not sure. i think all the new phones have this issue as well.

This. Check out the original thread about the issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754248
I swapped out my DInc4G twice with Best Buy because of the screen discoloration issue. The last phone I received from Best Buy had the same issue and HTC was kind enough to exchange my phone for a new one. I'm currently on my third DInc4G. All was fine until a month ago when the screen discoloration appeared on my current phone. I may contact HTC again but I've been busy and don't feel like going through the hassle of setting up my phone again.
I haven't experienced any other issues with the phone. The battery life is great compared to my OG DInc, and once we get s-off, it will be an even better phone.

Haha, damn. I just bought it. Anyway, sounds like the screen discoloration issue is primarily due to the glue not having fully cured and all? And I was guessing this has solid build quality. Well, you always have a few bad ones, but I wonder if I activate a Dinc4G on my line and I have issues down the road, can I do a Certified replacement from Verizon?

That is an ICS issue, not specific to this phone. I'm hopeful there is a fix once rooted.

No probs with mine and I've had it for a few months now. Accessories are quite limited. Other than that, it's a great phone.
But I like the Rezound a little better. The email implementation feature wise isn't as good on the DINC 4G but it works well.
Enjoy your new toy! Now go get yourself a case!

Unrelated question, but performance wise is the Dinc4G better than the Gnex? Just curious, as I bought this over the Gnex as it has newer processor etc.

YEAH! I just got mine and already very happy. The 4G is the first thing to blow my mind! It is better than the WiFi speed I get at my room (though right next to the router, I should get exceptional WiFi)!
Now, get me up to speed, y'all! Is it okay to update to the latest OTA? And do we have root? Or should I just wait till the S-OFF rather than root it now? :cyclops: :fingers-crossed:
Cheers!

well, we are waiting on a s-off exploit, yes you need the new ota to run the exploit. i would wait for that if i were you, but i don't know how long it will be before it's released. that's about it.
