Issues with my SD card - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello all,
I've bought 8GB SD card and used it on my mini pro, I faced some issues like:
1. Alot of programs suddenly crash
2. Wireless connection gets dissconeccted automaticlly
3. The whole Android software get crashed and the screen goes into black, then this can't be solved if I didn't remove battary and reinsert it.
I Tried to check the SD card for bad sectors and problems but there were nothing.
Any Solution?
NOTE: I have another SD card (2GB) and it dosen't make any problem when in use.

If you remove the card the problems persist?

remove your sd card, run your phone and see if errors still occur

I have another SD card (2GB) and I am using it now without any problem

It doesn't make sense, but you can always sell it cheap to someone that can make a good use to it.. #short term solution..

This doesn't make sense.
SDcard has nothing, that could affect wireless connections at all.
SDcard has nothing, that could affect whole Android firmware. Neither should it make apps crash.
What manufacturer's SDcard did you buy?

MAYBE a problem with file system, connect it to pc, with a card reader or put phone in mass storage and format it with FAT32 system.. thats what my 8gb card has..

It's already in FAT32 file system

It happen to once with my cheap 4gb card when i paired with nokia n82.. Till now i don't know why the phone keep refusing to recognize the card. The irony is, the "rejected card" works normally on my current phone "sk17". it left me scratching my head.
If you can return it, return it. If its not worth it, just get a new one. Basically, you have done everything on you end, so its definitely the card's fault.

Check for SD card class, its written on SD card.If its less than Class 6 then you should buy SD card with class 6 or higher.
Second you should not place large files like multiple blueray pictures or multiple songs in single folder. And last you can speed up SD Card read, write speed by using SD booster of Root tool box pro app to make your SD card faster.

I thing class is not so important. I now using few year old 16 gb card class 2 without any problem

Weird but I have no reason not to believe you.At least you know that the problem is the card,so either return it and get a new one or buy a 16Gb instead. They re already pretty cheap! Opt for a class 6+!

Why should I avoid putting multiple songs in one folder? I have put like that and my sd works fine eh??
and the other thing if you had apps in the other sd which was 2gb and u put the 8gb one without transferring them to the 8gb card the apps should not work. Android system failure sould be a problem of memory management. Check whether you had filled ur card.
and yea I think the best solution for u if u have tried every thing, return the card

It might be some app that may cause that like a call recorder or full screen caller id. So be appropriate.

I recommend for you update the firmware version V10b to V10r?
I've also noticed since I removed the sd card the phone is not turned off.
If you are using the original SD card supplied with the phone, those are pure junk... Would highly recommend replacing it with something decent in any case.
As for the ROM upgrade - yeah some SD card issues have been sorted out this way, worth a try.

[Q]Sd-card frequently corrupted

Hey guys,
since a few weeks i'm experiencing problems regarding my sdcard.
My sdcard keeps getting corrupted or loses my data such as my pictures(most of the time they disappear...).
I'm currently using the Doxians v9 which is ported by D4.
When it crashes my phone says that the sdcard is damaged so I have to insert it and run a chdsk on it to make it readable again. After that som pictures/apps/data is gone, probably cause they were corrupted or dissappeared from the fat32 registry... After that the card still works like a charm.
I also did some stress tests on the card through my pc, but no problems at all...
For example this morning everything was fine but I had an exam and I had to shutdown my cellphone... After the exam I booted my phone again and suddenly the sd card was corrupted for no reason...
Is there anyone who's experiencing this problem too, cause I don't know what the problem could be...
Thanks in advance!
Greetz YcKe
have experienced this on mine too but i bought a pretty inexpensive SD card... are you facing the same problem on all ROM's??
I had the problem with other roms too.. But this rom is the worst...
Even when I reboot my cellphone there is a chance that it gets corrupted... Like yesterday I just did a regular reboot and lost all my applicaitons on the sd card... Thats not too bad but it worse when I lose my pictures...
Could it have something to do with the sdCache? Maybe to high/low?
Greetz YcKe
...have experienced this on mine too on MiniCM6... SD cache 6M
Now test low cache.
I checked mine, it's 128 kb atm.. It's the default value for android...
I hope that might not be the problem...
Im grad I'm not the only one experiencing these problems...
Greetz YcKe
Anyone else?
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Mine is a 8Gb Class 4 and it crashes a lot.
It crashes with stock ROM and all other Roms.
Thx
Try to take just a pencil with graphite core and strong anoint (paint) them electrical contact to your card.
This protects against oxidation electrical contact and give the best contact in the connector.
Also, do not increase SDCard cache larger than 1 Mb, because in case of sudden reboot the phone may function properly.
Sorry for my bad english...
Could you guys do me a favor and post these things:
Sd card size +class + manufacturer
Android version + mod
Applications installed
This way we can compare and find the trouble maker

Mine:
8gb + Class 10+ Kingmax
2.3.5 + GinTonix 1.65 with Zombiepanic Kernel 1.56
TitaniumBackup, Camera360, Opera, Facebook, GoSms
usually you can restore the issues by copying files to a backup folder on your pc
then format (fat32 don't use the quick option this once and instead let it do a feal format). then copy files back and you should be back to normal.
I once had a similar problem. The files on my sd card were randomly corrupting. When I took a photo, and then tried to view it, I couldn't. I also wasn't able to open some files from my pc, but the same files could be opened from the phone. The problem was the sd card i have bought, which was a cheap kingston imitation, so i bought a new one from a retail store and that did it.
Bro if you had linux system on your pc you could check it out by using gparted or something like that.
my dad's P1i 4gb m2 card had the same problem. when taking photos some pics appear half, quarter or nothing but green lines on the photo. changed the card and it worked perfectly. and sometimes it doesnt recognize the card too.
so it is something regarding the card that you are using. better get a genuine card (transcend or kingston etc) and enjoy the lot.
regards
Tim

Thanks for the replies guys, but the weird thing for me is that it only happens when using the phone.
I tried some stress tests(write/read) and no problems occured.
Only when taking for example a picture, or putting stuff on my phone like apk's make the sdcard corrupt. I'm now running from a clean install.. No problems so far, I'll keep you guys updated!
Suggestions are still welcome!
Thank you guys

[Q] 64gb MicroSD Cards in S2

Anyone use one ?
I've got a Sandisk Class 10 "Ultra Android" one but it's been a bit .. flaky .. i suppose. I use winamp on my S2 and it occasionally hangs it to the point I need to reboot.
I'm wondering if it's just down to the number of tracks i've got on it - 8,500. Even though it's a class 10, I'm just wondering if selecting "Shuffle" when I start using it, it has a bit of a brain fart when faced with shuffling that many songs.
On the whole, when it's actually playing, it plays fine, but just wondering if anyone else has one and has had any issues ?
From what I have seen based on reviews of those cards just don't work well. I work in a store that sells them and I won't buy, but that's partially because I can't stand the thought of corrupting more than 16 GBs at one time.

I've always thought Sandisk was one of the more reliable brands. Interesting.
This says that my card is compatible with the S2
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/sandisk-mobile-ultra-microsdxc-memory-card-64gb-p32149.htm#compatibility
but then i've also read that the S2 can only cope with no more than 32gb.
I'm using SanDisk ultra class 10 32gb and have no problems whatsoever.

I was also using a Sandisk 32gb Class 10 as well before this - I still have it.
I did remove the primary partition on this 64gb card and re-create it as a FAT32 partition so it would work.
I also flashed a Jellybean ROM to see if the handling would be better and to be honest, I think ICS has actually been better overall at handling the larger capacity.
I have a 32GB SanDisk Class 2 MicroSD. Even though it is super slow, it has been really reliable. I have experienced zero crashes or hangups.
well the card now seems to have completely given up on me.
i decided to move back to ICS so prepared everything as I normally do. I repeated the procedure of removing the primary partition and re-creating a formatted FAT32 partition which completed successfully. i tried formatting it in CWM and it failed to mount. I flashed Rootbox ICS 1.8 which flashed fine. After booting, I chose "Erase SD Card" which ran through and seemed to complete without any errors but when i plugged the USB in, the card fails to mount again.
Rebooted and found that when i mount USB storage in CWM, the SD Card is properly recognised and checks out as properly formatted to FAT32 but the phone just point blank refuses to mount it under any circumstances.
Also, I select the USB Storage to copy files, it mounts the phone just fine but no SD Card. When i turn USB Storage off, it tells me i have a damaged SD Card and do I want to re-format - so I do. It completes without any obvious errors but then still won't mount ..
Just hugely frustrated at the moment ..
Is there a point where i should just give up ?
The card formats absolutely fine and checks out when formatted through the PC but the phone just doesn't want to know, under ANY circumstances ..
ok i give up. i just don't know or understand what's happened. i've deleted and re-created the partition a dozen times with a dozen different parameters. each time it completes successfully and each time the card shows up in windows as correctly formatted but the phone refuses to recognise it at all.
i've tried the format32 program, paragon partition manager and minitool partition manager and all of them successfully format the card without error and each time the phone DOES NOT SEE IT.
so i give up. i'll put my 32gb one back in and decide what i want to do - i imagine i won't be able to return the card because it formats correctly and works correctly in windows so i guess i can always try it on ebay
now you know when you do something completely random at the end of a few hours of puzzling over something ?
i literally just randomly selected "partition sd card" in CWM recovery, selected the maximum values on each and it ran ok and completed. rebooted and went to "storage" and .. IT SAW THE CARD ..
so i rebooted back to CWM and selected "format external storage" and it's done it .. formatted it without an issue .. i'm a bit stunned
it's only showing up as 59gb free mind, but i think i can cope with that .. and i think that's about average for the free space on any storage as well .. i can cope

59GB is the right amout of storage.
Harddrive and storage manufacturers calculate hard drive sizes using Base 10, where 1000 bytes is one kilobyte. Computers, however, do everything in binary, which is base 2, where it takes 1024 bytes to store a kilobyte of data. In addition, the computer’s OS uses part of the drive for a directory to keep track of the actual data. The result is, the usable capacity of a hard drive is typically 90 to 93% of the advertised capacity

The games that have large amounts of data downloaded after installing the game, such as NFS Hot Pursuit, puts the extra 600MBs of data in the 12GB internal storage.
so is it not possible then?

[Q] HELP! - S3 killed SanDisk 32gb Ultra Micro-SD

Hi guys
I know about the SanDisk Micro-SD card problem with Samsung Galaxy S3's and I happen to be one of the victims.
My SanDisk Micro-SD 32gb Ultra has had problems in the past. It sometimes says blank sd card but it eventually works again. At one point it said sd card damaged but the card still worked. Up until yesterday it hasn't stopped working for a while but now my phone says blank sd card. I tried putting it into a windows computer but it cannot be detected. When using a usb adapter it just shows a device in drive "?:" and can't do anything with it and when using a micro sd to sd card reader it doesn't show at all. In Mac the micro sd to sd card reader is detectable and shows the size of 32.1 MB and is called "Apple SDXC Reader Media". The micro sd card itself is not detectable it seems. I have tried many device recovery software but none of them work. They all seem to just be scanning the card reader and not the micro sd itself.
Does anyone know how I can recover the Micro-SD card?
It is quite important because I have my school laptop data backed up on it (which was just handed in for a system upgrade and being wiped) and also my phone pictures, videos and other stuff.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

It may be recoverable by a specialist company, But i believe the going rate is approx £900. My first step would be to try sticking it in the freezer for at least 8 hours (but as long as you can manage the longer the better) then try it in your phone, if this works back up all the data and RMA the card to SanDisk. Let this be a lesson to us all that all data on our cards should be backed up regularly, I understand you werent expecting the card to fail but had you lost your phone the result would have been the same.
I doubt you will be able to recovery the data, formatting the card with the sd formatting tool might make the card useable again but I doubt it. When I've had cards corrupt more than once it is best to throw them away and get a different make.
You can try looking for a specialist data recovery expert, locally or on the web - if the data is very valuable to you.

First of all I don't have £900 to throw around, besides the fact it totally isn't worth £900 to get it fixed.
Second, before I start chucking my SD card in the freezer what exactly does freezing it do and how will it help it? You sure it won't just destroy it for good? I can leave it in the freezer for as long as needed as I can't exactly use the card in the mean time.
Thanks for the reply though
Hope I can get it to work
Freezing is a method that may give a brief recovery on some hard disc failures .
Note hard disc never heard of freezing ram or why it could work .

Not a lot.Contact retailer, or SanDisk direct for a replacement card and chalk it down to experience.

A thought just occurred to me though.
Before I had my school laptop backed up on my micro-sd card I had it backed up on a usb. Because it was only an 8gb usb I transfered it to my micro sd because it took up too much space. I've heard of software that can recover deleted files from devices. Would it be possible to recover the deleted backup on my usb? The backup in total would have been about 1 - 2gb. If so, what free program could I use to recover it?
Thanks in advance
Possibly. As an IT support engineer, I don't want to get your hopes up though.
Things like NTFS get back may work but most if them are not free.
I took Handy recovery 1 (free version) from a bootable cd tool once, you could try that and may recover a small amount of data but its always safest to assume it gone.
The more you use the usb device, the less chance you have of recovery

If nothing works then I may take it to my school IT guys (when school starts again, currently holidays)
Think they would have something to fix the card or recover the data?
It depends on the state.
The media has a File System. This could be FAT32, NTFS, exFAT etc. Essentially (without going technical) imagine these file systems as a database table. When you add a file to the media, an entry is written to the table to identify the exact location of the file on the media. That way, when an operating system views the card and the user accesses a file, the table tells the OS where to look for the file.
Typically with these file systems, when you delete the file, the file remains. Only the Table entry is removed. The OS can no longer locate the file. the OS is shown the free space as per what the table says - not what is really the truth.
So once a file is deleted, 3rd party applications can scan the media and find the files (without using the table).
Of course there is a problem in that any space that the table shows as unallocated (you deleted the file), new files will overwrite the old files. That is when the data becomes unrecoverable.
So yes, it's possible that even if the formatted filesystem is damaged, the data on the media can be recovered. But if you added new files since, then the chances are the unreferenced data has been actually overwritten. In this case, it is gone.

What file system are you taking about here? The damaged file system (micro-sd card) can't have new files added to it as it is inaccessible. It also has not been formatted since the problem. The usb with the deleted files is not damaged and not formatted but I have put new files on it since. Sounds like you're combining the two different devices. Sorry if this is a bit confusing.

Both; I am answering the question for both devices at once. I'm not confused

Ok. I thunk I'm da confused one
Anyway, so basically you're saying that it is possible for the IT guys at my school to fix the micro sd card and recover its data right? I don't think I'm going to bother trying to recover the deleted one on my usb.

The s3 doesn't play very well with sandisk cards in general (samsung confirmed this) . I personally use a pny and have no issues, I would suggest trying to return the card and get a different brand.

[Q] Music keeps skiping like a bad CD

Hey there, for a while there I had the 4.1.2 OS and everything was just fine.
that untill I started upgreading my OS.
when I upgreaded to a stock 4.2.2 everything was OK on my device except the music who kept skipping like a scratched CD...
I tried many different OS (stock and custom) with no luck.
I thought when i'll upgrage to the 4.3 this problem will be solved, but man I was wrong...
I tried fomatting the SD card, removing it and changing it, with no luck so far.
haven't tried downgrading to 4.1.2 only because I believe there should be a solution for this.
also something that might related, but my device somehow ruined my SD card in a way that is no longer writeable and there's no way to format it from the device or from different forms with my PC and I had a DanDisk Ultra 64GB Micro SDCX which I had for only few months.
what can I do? I looked for solutions all over the internet and only found the "format/remount your SD card" which clearly dosn't work for me.
thatnks in advanced!
If the card won't format using the sd tool on pc then it is faulty, contact the seller for warranty replacement.

thanks for the reply about my SD card, but I already knew that and its not the issue here.
im using a different SD card which works, and the problem is somewhere in my device.
low quality sd cards sometimes make this kind of problems. i've almost same issue with 64 gb chine based no brand card.

are you saying that my SanDisk SD card is a low quality brand...?
and why do people seem to insist to focus on what's obviosly not the the matter.
I don't care about my faulty SD card, its my GS3 that dosn't function correctly that butters me...
