Wrong place to post. But there's several methods listed already. By installing the RUU it flashes the radio for you while retaining S ON that's what I did.

the wire trick is really easy i was scrared at first to trust me its an expensive phone. but the picture is exact as to where the location of the pin 1 is and ground out on the metal sd card slot and your good to go. It took me 4 times but the program will tell you when you did it right. Its all in the timing really

well I got s-off another way not the way mentioned, does that have some sort of an effect to flash the new radio and why is that the Roms for this device need the new radio to be flashed. thanks

This will only be useful to the people who have S-OFF or who have already done the official update right? You'd probably save yourself and others some headache by mentioning that. I'm sure you're gonna put in all the details when it's ready, I'm just saying.

I know. I did read that the kitchen had an issue or used to have an issue with deodexing stock ICS roms. There was a fix or something that needed to be changed/edited that allowed it to work, something about extracting system.img differnetly I thought. Sigh.

I am very looking forward to downloading this ROM since I did not really
want to re-lock my bootloader.
But i just wanted to ask, is there anyway I could install your upcoming rom

i skimmed thru some of the s-off instructions and became speechless
after seeing sticking the wire on the back of the unit.....too much for me i guess lol

S OFF or Relock bootloader and apply the update that way
i would recommend do the hboot method if you are scared of S OFF,

so what you are saying is: either way, I would have to update the ph85img with hboot
to install your rom?
would it be impossible to flash a rom from GB to ICS without going thru the hboot process?

yes if you have S OFF, no otherwise
You have to install the new hboot to install the NFC, people were having problems with it failing or something along those lines.

S-off is required because there is a new radio , and s-off is needed for that, don't worry about the wire thing, just be careful and follow the instructions and you should be fine, so far I've seen only one person that has bricked the phone

we could install kernels before,as long as we used a PC and launched recovery from fastboot. i guess its cool we can do it from a permanent installed recovery now without a PC,but its not that big a deal to me. ive always hooked my phone to the puter when i wanted to flash a new rom.
my favorite thing is being able to flash whole leaks without fear of beeing stuck there, and the ability to bounce around between firmwares.
my second favorite thing is that my bootloader stays unlocked. i no longer have to relock to run ruus, and afterward i dont need to re-unlock or keep installing patched hboots to use a few fastboot commands. this is different than my other s-off htcdev phones where the unlocked hboot would be overwritten with a locked one during the ruu flash
*disclaimer: i have no factory warranty and dont care about my lock status being unlocked,or relocked. do not htcdev unlock after s off if you care about staying locked
thirdly,custom spalsh screens are fun
Flashing nandroid backups with a minimum of steps and not worrying about kernels when I do.

I like s-off for a few reasons. 1. With S-Off i know that future hacks and tricks will probably be easier for me to use. 2. I get a bit of satisfaction when i see s-off in my hboot
Has to be the ability to flash without the need to unlock or relock. Takes away tedious steps and makes the overall process quicker and more simple. Plus, there isn't a need to stress about down/upgrading firmware.

Looking at getting new Evo 3D, what are the drawbacks?

Looking at selling my Evo 3D to a buddy and I would like to get a newer one, ie no scratches. I wanted to ask what are the repercussions of going with a newer 3vo; in terms of rooting. Also are they still somewhat the same; nothing has been changed (maybe BOOT version?)
You're going to have to deal with HTC hboot from Heill. keep your old evo, especially because that one will probably get scratches on it too. Just put a case on to conceal anything impurities

Please explain about the new hboot. IIRC My hboot was the hardest to do, now you're telling me the new one is harder? I don't just want to get a new phone, I want to get my buddy out of his clamshell...yes he has a clamshell.
I haven't rooted on mine yet, only because I don't have the time to be on down-time while I root. Especially since I have never rooted before. So learning curve taken into account.
I don't think the new one is harder than 1.50 was from what I've read. You still HTCdev unlock and then wire trick.

Help with Data on TB

First post, I've been lurking a while so first off thanks to the xda community for providing great tips, instructions and insight. Now I need some more individual help. I'm sorry for the long post but it will help explain the problem.
I've had my TB for a while (had it and the SIM replaced a few times too) but I'm having huge data issues. I've googled the heck out of it and still haven't found a solution that worked. The data worked great back on Froyo but on GB and ICS(Thanks liquid and jester) data sucks the big one. I've tried it in several cities (Knoxville, Miami, Lexington, Louisville, St. Louis to name a few) and still no dice. Here's what I've tried:
##778 trick
Replaced the SIM once on another TB a while back
Removed FB
Changed to many different ROMs
Tried all kinds of radio combos (currently on .19 radio)
Signing in to My VZW
Pulled the SIM and let it sit for a while
I really don't want to unroot and go back to Froyo but I'm about to give up. Anyone got other ideas?

This is going to sound really dumb...What SHOULD they look like? I've thought about that once but since I've got nothing to compare it to I never really gave it any more thought. They don't look funky or anything.
Well they should be shiny and not broken at all. I have heard of people getting corrosion on them or being broken. Something you may try is pulling the tabs up very carefully with some tweezers or a pen knife. The phone antennas are on the back cover of the phone and those gold tabs need to make contact on the pads on the cover for you to get signal.

They look fine. No signs of corrosion or damage. I called VZW and after talking to them and Assurion for a while they're going to send me another phone. I read somewhere that they're out of TBs and some guys were getting a Rezound. :fingers crossed:
Back in the days of my BB Storm there was certain was that worked better than others (I think it was ones that were made in Mexico). Is there something like that for the TB?
I think some tbs were made better than others. I had the data issue you had for a month and then out of nowhere it was normal.

Yeah I'm starting to get that impression. Do you know if anyone has tried the new leaked radios on stock GB? I downloaded them from the other site, checked the md5 and they don't even load for me. I guess maybe they're only for ICS.
If they send me another TB, I'm rooting right off (after downgrading) and throwing jester's ICS on there with the leaked radios. That ROM is the best I've ever used.
What do you mean they aren't loading for you? Are you putting them on the root of your sd card, renaming them to PG05IMG and flashing them in fastboot?

Yeah I put them in the root of the card and flash them as I've done every other radio. They start to load, go through the check process and it returns right back to fastboot. I unrooted and flashed stock so that I could return it, I've flashed radios at stock before so I thought it wouldn't matter. Do you think that has anything to do with it?
If you're s off it should flash. Are you sure the md5 sums are right? Also, try clearing caches first and then flash them. It sounds like a bad download. I honestly would try downloading from a different source and check the md5 again because it sounds like you may end up bricking if you keep trying your current file.

In a earlier post I think I mentioned that I'm running it stock, s-on. I unrooted so that I could exchange it but I'd love to have working data the rest of the day or at least experiment while I'm bored at work. lol I love getting paid to sit around and be bored. Yeah I may try downloading it again. I checked the md5 before I tried flashing it and it lines up with the hash that the uploader posted.
I really appreciate all the help. It's frustrating as heck dealing with a phone that doesn't get consistent data. I have to actually got to sites on my computer to read? Crazy talk!
I guess I missed that you were s on. I don't think the radio will flash s on unless you can get it in the entire ruu. If you're already unrooted I would just return it.

Cool, thanks for the info. Maybe if I get a working one my tweaked framework-res.apk will work for Jester's ICS and I can send it to him to try. I think I was making progress on the whole APN thing but it was hard to tell with the TB I had.

Nope - Still waiting. I suspect that someone is working on a user friendly way to implement it. It's one thing to achieve it, but another to make the method available to the average user (Like me).
I'm an average user but I'd rather have a hard-ish way so I can learn. Hopefully it can be done on ubuntu.

It was both, a custom hboot that was flashed in download mode which was achieved by connecting a wire to two contact points on the back of the phone. The custom hboot did the s off and then you just overwrite with stock hboot and voilla, s off

I guess the folks that figured it out are still working the on the bugs in the system before they release it to us masses. After mastering the "wire" trick on my Rezound also, I'm pretty sure I can handle it as long as there's a reasonable certainty I won't brick my phone.
