I've been wondering.
When I signed up to Google Voice, I had a Google Voice # & a Sprint #.
Once the Sprint Integration with Google Voice came, I ported the Sprint Number into Google Voice & lost the Google Voice given number after 90 days, no biggie.
Now my Sprint Number is a Google Voice Number.
My Question is, if I were to get out of my Sprint Contract (via buyout/ETF), would I lose/keep the integrated Sprint # that's been ported to Google Voice?
Would I be able to redo the integration steps, effectively keeping the phone number for a newer EVO?
P.S. No I'm not leaving Sprint, the motive is in my signature. I plan on rejoining, the same day I cancel. My yearly upgrade strategy.

And sweet betsy, it was like asking a random stranger what trains to catch to get to Yonkers from Battery Park.
Waay over their head, I felt bad after the call.

did the same as you did, but once i re did my set up, I did not load GV as part of a sprint set up, but did it manually where it will " skip" the sprint influence.
If you do and run in to any issues, make sure you set it up manual, it should release the # and if it doesn't , well then the above statment is correct , you will need to call sprint...
Z
If you have your Google voice number tied into your sprint number and are thinking to cancel with Sprint.... Just untie your Google voice number to Sprint... There is an option for that when you log into Google voice with a browser.
Here is the how to:
http://support.google.com/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1207078
That's a good idea....
Guys, the point is not to untie the number, it's just wanting to know if you'd be able to keep the integration, which I'm also curious of!
Does canceling and activating a new account make you a brand new customer or do you retain your 'history' with sprint?

That's the only part I know , you do retain your history. So when loyalty perks return, you'll still have them.
Retentions told me that aspect was safe when I upgraded via buyout to the 3D last year.
When I signed up for Sprint a year ago. I got the EVO 3d for 50 bucks. after3 months I Sold my EVO shiftto radioshack for 185 dollars. Added a new line and got a EVO 3d. Well I suspendedthe new line and put the 3d on my orginal line.
Well i called complained about my new line never getting suspended. They took it off completely lol.
I just did exactly this and was worried about losing my number. Here's the step-by-step process:
(If you haven't already, attach your new phone/service to Google Voice before starting this process.)
1) Login to Google Voice and click Disable next to the Sprint Integration.
2) It will warn you that Google Voice is going to lose the Sprint number, which sounds scary - proceed anyway, you'll rescue it shortly.
3) Proceeding hands the number back to your Sprint account. You now need to port it.
4) Click Get a Google Voice Number
5) Click Use My Existing Mobile Number
This begins the porting process. Google is going to have you enter payment info to pay a $20 porting fee. You'll need your Sprint Account Number and your Sprint phone on hand. You can get your Sprint Account Number by logging into sprint.com or by calling them.
The porting takes 24 hours to port the number and 3 business days to switch text messages over. Interestingly once it completes, the Sprint account is cancelled - you don't have to call them to cancel. However, I called them anyway, and they said to call them after 5 business days to verify it really is cancelled. So perhaps you're best calling them just to verify they do their job.
Thanks man,
I hope this goes smoothly as I'll be buying out of the contract & upgrading within the same day.
I'm going through the same thing. The advise given is the best: Port your number to GV and just get a new number from the new carrier. Worth the $20 I guess.

Hi all,
I have a EVO4g on sprint, but the Atrix is bringing me back to ATT. I was wondering what do I need to do to have my number ready to be ported when the Atrix releases and I pick one up? I already know about paying sprint off, etc.
all you should need to do is call up AT&T and tell them you want to port your number to them when you create your account.
They should take care of the rest for you. I don't know however what you will need to do with Sprint in terms of paying any etf.
Thanks, Yeah I'm going to call sprint and pay the penalty
Don't call sprint yet. Get the phone at AT&T (please go to a corporate store and give a rep the commission. We need to eat too), bring your Sprint bill (for the account number), and as long as you're the Sprint account holder, you're golden. You'll need to provide the billing address and social security number that's on the Sprint account, as well as the PIN that you use to access your Sprint account when you call.
Once you port, Sprint will automatically cancel your account and send you a bill for the termination fee. If you cancel BEFORE you go to AT&T, you will lose your phone number.

May I suggest? Get a free Google Voice account. Once you have done that, you "own" the GVoice phone number, and you can have it push to any other phone number(s) you choose.
So you give people the GVoice number, and push that to your cell phone. If you change providers, change numbers, change whatever...you don't have to do anything except change the number assignment in GVoice. No one has to know.
And if you find the new phone number is getting wrong numbers from folks who think they are still calling the old owner? GVoice can block those calling numbers--and just those callers--so you don't pay for their calls, either.
An incredibly powerful service, and an example of what ANY telco or celco could provide for your phone, if they really wanted your business instead of your wallet.
I'm starting to get pissed off with the number of telemarketers calling my cell phone. Before the Evo3D, I had a dumbphone and kept my number private between friends/family and NEVER got spam calls. I've even registered with the Do Not Call list.
Since upgrading to the Evo3D, I'm getting a phone call every other day or so from different spam numbers selling "credit reduction services".
I'm thinking the 5-6 apps I've installed (Pandora, 2 Bank apps, TaskOS, ES file explorer, Skype) on my phone are somehow selling or recording my phone number. Anybody else notice this?
If this continues, I'm gonna have to ask Sprint to change my cell # which I've had for 9 years!! .
It's much more likely it's sprint selling your details or insurance companies etc rather than apps
Evo 3D 6/25/11. No unwanted calls here.
Estrong!

Have you signed up for any extended warranties on any products? Or signed up for other services where you listed your phone number?
What sucks is that I found out lots of warranty companies sell your personal info. For example you buy a new washer/dryer etc and put down your info, GE or whoever does their service, will sell that info.
Check out www.numberguru.com those bastards list your name for your cell number, who your provider is and your location. My info on there is old, I haven't been with T-Mobile in ages. I live near the town they list, but never lived in that town. I requested to be removed, hasn't happened yet.
i hate telemarketers ive been getting a bunch of them lately
i had a few from some home security systems. i got pissed and told him to stop calling me lol he said "i'm sorry. i'll take you off my list now" i was like wth? how did i even get on there? :-?
Download "SPC" from the Market and block each number!
I have half the apps the OP has and i am not getting any calls.
Pandora, ES File Explorer, Wells Fargo, Skype.. I have them as well.
I was wondering if it was possible. What I want to do is buy a couple of evos and have them both use the same number. Both would ring if the number was dialed and if they called out they would both be using same account.
I have 2 kids that both want a phone and sprint said I can only have 1 more line. (already have 4).
Thank you for any help or for pointing me in right direction.

You could get two separate Google Voice lines for free. The phones would only work on wifi
But what you're talking about, I don't believe so on a CDMA network. Each phone has an ESN, and to get both phones to use the same line, you would have to have one of them spoof the other's ESN. I'm pretty sure that's illegal, and they'd catch you if both were active.
Sorry, didn'T know that it would be illegal. I just figured it would be like a land line having multiple handsets. Its not like you could use both at same time to call different people. Just didn't want to have to go to another carrier and sign up for whole new plan since both kids are under 10 years old and probably won't use 10 minutes a month combined. Phones would be used to call me our my wife in case something changed with school schedule. Ie club staying late put getting out early.
Open another account in you wifes name and see if you can get a Sero account. Search Sero in the forums to find out hour to so that.

You could duplicate the phones, and it would do exactly what you want. However, this is illegal. If your kids have wifi at school, you could just use the many internet based texting and calling apps for android, and you don't even need to worry about adding a line. OR what would be SO cheap. If you just want them to have a phone to contact you in emergencies, just get them prepaid phones. That will be about $10 a month each. Same as adding a line.
Ok so i just went to the verizon store to buy a droid dna on a new line and then activate it on my number. They did not have any in stock so they are having the phone shipped to me. I have a basic phone ready. Once i receive the device, and activate it on my sim as opposed to the one they give for the new line and then activate the basic phone on the new line, will I be charged data fees on the new line? Or just the 9.99 for an extra line (which is what I need)? Also, how long does it take for the new phone number to show up on your verizon account after you buy it?

Once you switch the new device over to your current line and put the basic phone on the new line, you will only pay for the basic phone and not days on that second line. The amount depends on your plan. Sharee Everything charges $30 for a basic phone and the grandfathered family plans are $9.99. Not sure how long it will take for the new number to show up though. Possibly not until you activate the new device. You can do that online or over the phone.

So in order to get the basic phone activated, would I have to go into a store and ask them to activate it form me? How will they know what line to activate it on if I can't even see the number of the new line?

You can activate it after the fact, once the new phone arrives. The new line will activate once the new phone order completes. You can then either call or make the swap to the basic phone on the new line online.

Can i activate the basic phone before the new dna arrives? I called verizon and got the new number
Just wait until the phone arrives and do the switch on the spot. No new one charges will be added to the account.

Not to my knowledge since the line gets activated with the order completion in this case. Poster above me has the right idea.
ok so just to confirm i got this right let me repeat what i think the process is. I get the phone on friday, pop in my sim into the dna and activate it on my line. Then I can call verizon on the basic phone using *228 and get them to activate the basic phone on the new line. By doing this, the new line will be charged 9.99/month (i am not on share everything) and I will not be charged 30/month on the new line for data. Can you guys confirm this? Sorry for being annoying but I need to make sure i get this right. Thank you guys so much for your help.
No!
Your phone gets there on Friday. Do not put sim inside any of the phones just go directly to a Verizon store and have them do a swap.
If you do it over the phone they will prolong the process by a lot and you might still get charged for the data plan. I have done this plenty of times and I always have them do the swap free of charge.

No need to leave your house. Simply activate the phone via the automated phone number or online (info will be included). Once line and new phone are active, you can then do an "Activate or Switch Device" online via your My Verizon account. You can move the new phone to your line and then add the basic phone to the new line. You may have to call them if you run into issues activating the basic phone on the new line. I had to call once, but they had me taken care of within 5 minutes.

You're complicating an otherwise simple process. I too speak from experience and, shall we say, insight. But I digress- so what you will.
I work for verizon. What I understand is that you added a new line to get a smart phone at reduced price. So you have a new phone number that you won't be using. You'll be moving the smartphone to you already existing old line...
Knowing this, it's best to wait to receive the equipment. There's absolutely no need to go to a Verizon store (if you ultimately have to, I recommend the corporate stores.).
When equipment is received don't automatically power on the device as activation will fail. Call the IVR at 1-877-807-4646. Follow the prompts until it states "To activate your phone on xxx-xxx-xxxx now hit 1. To activate later hit 2". You'll want to hit 2. Go to your My Verizon, do activate or switch device, and pick your phone line and enter meid and sim card #. If it's an embedded sim the number is on the box of your phone.
Edit: You probably won't be able to use your existing SIM card as it's probably a larger sized sim and not the micro sim.
As far as charges go as long as a non smartphone goes on the new line, you will not see a data charge.

I know that this is a simple process But Verizon has screwed me over to many times.
I got my girl an Iphone 5 last week because her 4s broke and I told the rep to change my family plan to the shared uimited and he forgot. I call Verizon to check on a new line for my brother and I found out that all the corporate rep did was use the upgrade on my girls account and nothing else.
New charges were added to the account because of the data and it was a whole big mess. The charges were removed after we figured it all out.
My point is that once you go to the store call them and make sure everything was done correctly.

Sorry about the issues you had but I'm happy that your not bitter about it and a supporter of Verizon still. And verifying changes is a good thing. This is a completely automated process involving no human interaction to screw anything up however. But that is why we have phone support as well as B&M stores. It's your choice.

So I want to take advantage of the HTC One $100 trade-up promotion which has a purchase deadline of 5/19. I ordered the unlocked version from Letstalk.com and they pushed it back until the end of May. I'm thinking of ordering it from T-Mobile's website instead. My question is in regards to the activation process.
My current AT&T's billing cycle ends on May 27th. Thus, I don't want to switch service until then, but I must meet the 5/19 HTC One Trade-up promotion deadline of 5/19. Can I go ahead and order from T-Mobile, get the device, and not activate it until 5/27? The number porting doesn't happen until I activate right? Or does it happen as soon as I checkout from the T-Mobile site?
You can skip the number porting when you order. I had to in order to get my phone to actually ship. When you activate, you'll get a temp number. Simply call t-mobile, say you want to port, give them the info for both accounts, and you'll be ported in the next 24 hours (aka when original carrier gives up the number).
Just did it today, extremely painless.

Hm. Would service for TMobile start when I activate then? I don't want service to overlap. Would your method allow me to receive the phone, sit on it until the end of May, call in to activate, then port my #, then have my TMobile plan start at the end of May?
I don't know that, as I haven't gotten a bill so I've been unable to determine if it started when shipped or when activated.

So I called T-Mobile and asked about activating once I received the equipment. They said they can do a delay activation so I can go ahead and place the order now for the HTC One. I did. They said I can call in at the end of the month to activate service and port my number! I should be getting the phone next week.
Now this brings up a new dilemma. My original intent was just to get the phone and go with T-Mobile's $30 prepaid plan. The T-Mobile stores either wouldn't sell me the phone straight up or are out of stock. What is stopping me from just getting the phone, never activating it with the $50 plan, and just activate it with the $30 plan instead?
By the way, I learned the entire remaining balance on the phone becomes due once you cancel service with them. I keep hearing people say you continue to pay the $20/month for the phone. Nope!
