So wirefly states that one needs to keep the phone that is purchased through them on the same line for 4 months. I called amazon on the 17th of march asking them if I can do an upgrade using one line then switch the phone to another and was told yes. I received the thunderbolt yesterday, I called amazon and was told this was no longer allowed. I asked when this change occured. He asked me when I made the phone purchase. I told him 29th. He then said the change occurred before that. I asked when once more, he refused to state when. What is going on here? What can I do now, besides getting a refund?
That's the downside of trying to save a few bucks. Gotta follow their rules. Doesn't look like they've changed their terms online though. Switching the device to another line shouldn't fall under either of the rules below.
http://wireless.amazon.com/help/200364580/
AmazonWireless Instant Discount Policy
When you purchase your device with service from AmazonWireless.com, we automatically pass along an instant discount from the carrier to you. This discount has been provided to you based on your agreement to (a) activate a new, or extend an existing, line of service for this device with the carrier, and (b) maintain this service in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days. If you do not activate or extend a line of service in connection with this device, or if your service is canceled/disconnected before 181 consecutive days, AmazonWireless.com will charge you $250 per device, plus applicable taxes.

I called previously and stated I could do the swap. I called yesterday they no longer do the swap. I also e-mailed them and they stated that they no longer do the swap. Both stated it was recent change. I called again this morning and I was otld once again they no longer do the swap and it was recent. I asked to talk to higher up and I was told I can no longer do the swap and this rules was a year old. I called the higher up on her statement and she then blames that everyone else is wrong and they need to go through training again.
I *****ed and moaned. at the end I am forced to return the phone, but I was offered $30 from amazon to use on their website. Plus I can play with the phone before I return it. Play as in test.
You can call wirefly's escalations department. 18004449543
You'll actually speak with someone competent enough, but will still probably go nowhere with wirefly since they are the worst.
I would ask for a copy of their terms as nothing on their site mentions prohibiting the transfer of the phone to another line, just that you have to keep the line active.
Wirefly and Amazon are both indirect agents and thus fall under those rules. If you cancel your line, change to a lower priceplan, or cancel a feature they get charged back. They "can" try to charge you a fee to help offset the cost. Pay with a credit card and dispute if they do. Once you buy the phone it's yours to do with as you please. Switch it to another line using Verizon's customer service, not amazon/wirefly's. Don't tell amazon/wirefly that you are planning to do that. Sometimes paying a little more is worth not getting hassled though ;-)
that's a bummer. Obviously bs that this was an old policy. I called twice before the launch and asked about this specific policy. they just said that the line itself needed to stay active. I purchased a TB on the first day with amazon, never even activated on the original line (so the data plan was never started) and setup on a second line when talking to verizon customer support.
hmmm I guess I need to decide if $56 is worth the hassle to do a credit card dispute is amazon decides to charge me an additional $250. I did talk to amazon this morning so they do have a record of the conversation.
They gave me $30 and sent me a packing slip for the phone.
Would I still be able to do refuse the charge? Or should I ask for the terms?
Technically the line is changed I suppose, since it wouldn't have the 4g unlimited, that would be moved to the primary so there is a change, I suppose.
So far I am thinking I would ask for the terms from amazon then do a swap of lines. If they charge me I would dispute it and send over the terms to the creditcard company and win.
I think I am tired of fighting "the man", losing battle. Unless someone got a secret weapon I can use in addition to stated previously.
Thats why I just get my stuff from the local store, They know me and dont give me any problems when I need a little help thats out of the ordinary. Its called a relationship, cant get that with an online super merchant!
I went into my local Sprint store today to pre-order the Evo 3D. All I had to do was give them my name, cell number, and e-mail address and I was added to the list. No deposit needed. I asked about getting the yearly upgrade promotional pricing. He said I had a $75 credit due June 1st, but they would most likely manually override it in the system. He gave me a direct number to call to try and get this taken care of.
I just got off the phone, and it was a piece of cake. There wasn't even any menus to go through, the CS rep picked up the phone on the first ring - must be a direct line. Anyway, she asked me a few security questions and then I told her what I was calling about. She said they will put me down to get the $199 promotional pricing not only for my line, but also the other line my girlfriend uses. Said it should take 24-48 hours in the system and they will call me back Wednesday to confirm it. I'm sure your account has to be in good standing to get taken care of. I was thoroughly impressed. The rep at the store told me to stop back up next week and they should know more about the release date.
Here is the direct line if anyone needs it: (877)775-4886
Two thumbs up for Sprint. That was effortless.
Good stuff man.... glad to hear that they took care of you. Also, good job posting the phone number for others to call. Hopefully others have success. The more folks that get this phone and the more awesome it will be.

Its nice you have a good local store, but all the stores around me are terrible. I called in to confirm I could pre order the 3D in the store (as some arent doing accepting preorders yet) and asked what if I needed my account info (as my father owns the account). Left on my lunch break as I work 5 days a week and wasnt going to wait a week to get my preorder in. Arrive to find ~5 customers. I take a seat and wait as all the reps are busy (3). It took me over an hour to talk to a rep and do a 5 minute preorder, which the rep wasnt even sure about how to do it, and she wanted my PIN which I was told on the phone I didnt need.
They didnt ask for my email, only phone number, name, and PIN.
Anyone know if/where you can check the status/confirmation of a preorder? As i am weary that it was done right and really dont want to find out it was done wrong or go back to the store unless its to get my evo 3d

Did you get any type of receipt or put any money down? Why not just go to Best Buy or Radio Shack. All you need is $50 to put down and you will walk out with a gift card and a receipt for your pre-order. No info needed with your Sprint account until you go pickup the phone.
I just like dealing with my local sprint store. They have always been very helpful with any issues I have had. I didn't want to put any money down if it wasn't required. I didn't get a receipt, but he said I will get an email confirmation in 24-48 hours. I didn't think it was that hard to give them my phone #, name, and gmail account. Plus this way, I am now guaranteed the promotional pricing. Not sure I could get that with Radio Shack or Best Buy.

yes i got a receipt that only mentions the $50 gift card purchase and then a separate print out of a confirmation number, but i would like to double check that as the rep (apparently) stopped half way through and realized she was preordering the htc view and not the evo3d, so if theres anyway of checking online I'd very much appreciate it. Plus she needed help a few times from another associate, so assuming this gets as popular as the original evo... I'd like to make sure my preorder is correct.
Thanks Bro!! Called the number, got my upgrade reinstated till I want to use it and it was painless!!
Now I just need to see if the EVO 3D can be software S-Off, wait till see what the Within (SGS2) looks like, or I can switch to another carrier....
worked like a charm for me too, thanks OP
I will be keeping that phone #!! Thanks so much OP - able to use my wife's upgrade to get my Evo as soon as it comes out instead of waiting until August!
What did you tell the CS rep? Just that you're looking to upgrade to the EVO 3d, but your line isn't eligible for the full discount?
BTW, If you call that number now, and your upgrade was supposed to be in june, you have to cal back on june 1st, there system does not allow them to push the upgrade when its only a few days away from the month it was supposed to be, but on the first of the month it allows them to do it once the "silver upgrade" is available on your account, according to the person I just talked to from that number
I can confirm I was able to reset the upgrade on my partners account. So now we are looking forward to two EVO 3Ds
So if my upgrade is July something... I should probably wait until then?
I have one that is the $75 eligible upgrade right now, could probably call on that maybe.
I'm just curious as to what people are saying, like are you just saying, "Hey I'm looking to get the EVO 3d when it comes out..." to that affect?

I can confirm this works too. I called that number and was told that since my partial upgrade isn't till November and my full upgrade isn't till September 2012 that I could not get the upgrade. I then called the same number again and talked to another rep and explained to them that there nothing defective with my current evo and I know I not eligible for a upgrade but I simply requested a manual override of my upgrade eligibility and they did it for me !! Took about an 30 minutes but it worked. If your eligible for a partial upgrade this process take like 5 minutes tops !! Thanks to the OP.
p.s. I think the buzz word is manual override !!
I'll be trying this tomorrow.... Thanks man!

I wouldn't man. July MIGHT be when the Evo 3D is released or June I don't know. But one month is easier to wait out. I think Sprint only allows for one manual override per line. I would save that override for the future.
From my Gingerbread Hero.
July of next year is when im have the $150 upgrade renewal possible.
I purchased my EVO last July, sold it back to sprint (should've ebayed it) and now am having issues with my Hero. I'm going to move away from CM on my hero to see if thatll change anything.
It randomly powercycles, it won't send or receive texts sometimes, and is just a pita! Lol
With all this talk of HTC locking the bootloader and all the speculation, I may just jump ship and move away from HTC all together.
You know, I actually never got my email for the pre order...
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I pre ordered the Samsung Nexus S 4G from Best Buy.... bought the $50 gift card and everything... Never got the call when they came in.
Got one of our lines bumped up to the full upgrade eligibility, and was told to try calling back in July to see about getting another one done.
The gentleman I talked to said it is a "program they are currently running, and he is unsure when they will stop this promotion."
Thanks for posting this, you helped me a ton!
hey, this is what's happening with mine. A week ago from today, I've placed an online order through attwireless which had cost me 300 plus tax. However, right after i've submitted my order, I ended up on the bestbuy websites advertising their $50 giftcard with its upgrade plan. so i've decided to call back at&t to cancel my order within 24 hours. when i got a chance to talk to the lady i was surprised because she couldn't cancel my order since it's in the "process" and she just told me to send the phone back once i receive it. This order was done on last tuesday, Feb 8th and it's hilarious that i couldn't even get it to cancel the shipment the day after, since it was TOO late. So what the heck, i just went to the BBM and preordered mine.
right now, i have a galaxy note package right on my desk sent by at&t but when i see my bank account, i do not see anything debitted by at&t yet. i've been talking to 4 diff. reps and they all say they charge your account right away at the checkout page. Apparently, they don't know what's going on with my status. Only exception was the iphone, she says, which had taken extra 7days to charge the customers.
but my question is will I be able to sign a contract on sunday when i go pick up my galaxy note with BBM even i have the actual note in my position from att?
will their system block me from getting another one? but they didn't even charge me???!!? if that's the case, i guess i have to send it back before sunday so i don't have any trouble getting mine at BBT.
since, att has 30 days return policy, i was maybe thinking about keeping it til i see the "-317.99" on the bank statement.
what do you think guys? should i take the risk?
I would suggest you be honest and just return the ATT phone.
Knowing AT&T, they will charge you. Maybe not right off the bat but they'll find another way like your monthly bill.
if you return the phone, it will take another 5 days to make a reversal or to cancel your phone/line upgrade before you can apply for another phone/line upgrade, so if you have plans of returning the phone, return it asap.
from ATT:
We will get you. We will track you with GPS and send warnings and even access your camera and watch you.
And we are just getting started.
Thanks for shopping AT&T !
If your contract has not been reversed, you will not be able to buy a 2nd Note at the 2 year price.
If however you ARE able to for whatever reason, keep the AT&T phone. See what happens.
Worst case scenario you get charged for it. If so, go to any AT&T store and return it. Easy as that.
They won't add it to your monthly bill.
I'm sure many of you, like myself, are sick of paying the $37 activation phone every time you upgrade your phone.
Well I just had an idea, to maybe, perhaps, get the fee waived.
What if we just go to Sprint/Bestbuy, use the upgrade to buy the phone.. and then tell them NOT to activate it?
THEN.. once you're home, call Spring from your device and say "hey, I just bought a new phone that I'd like to use on my account please" (like how you would do with a phone bought from Craigslist.)
Since they don't charge you anything for swapping phones, maybe they won't charge you here either?
What do you guys think?

Impossible. No such thing as a $37 activation fee.
Impossible. If you buy at BestBuy they have to activate it for you.

would that work though? Because your account may have been flagged once the phone is shipped/picked up that there is an upgrade pending. When you call in to sprint for 'swapping' they might see that its a new model and charge regardless.
Your plan might work though. That's what I was planning to do just pick it up from BB and call when I'm home. I didnt know you have to activate it there.

I'm 100% certain you don't have to activate in the store because last time I used 2 upgrades to get the Evo 3D and the Galaxy SII (Epic Touch or whatever), and I never got the Galaxy activated. I just sold it on Craigslist immediately.
Unless of course.. they changed it in the last half a year or so.

Best Buy won't sell you a $550 phone for $200 just because they are so nice. They get commissions from Sprint that cover the difference and few bucks for the store. In order to get commissions, they need to extend contract and activate the phone with their dealer code. So, activating the equipment is a requirement. If someone lets you walk away without activating a phone, they just made $400 mistake.
I think I may be able to clear this up. Anytime you upgrade with Sprint at a third party retailer (Radio Shack, Best Buy, Sprint Indirect Retailer, etc) they will use a system called SNAP.
In SNAP, when an upgrade is processed a $36 upgrade fee is automatically triggered on the account, or at time of purchase if it is ordered. This cannot be waived manually by any rep. The system just forces it. Whether the phone is activated or not, your still going to get charged the fee.
For example, if you ever order a device from a Sprint Indirect dealer and have the phone shipped to your house and never activate, you will still get that upgrade fee. Even if you were to throw that phone in the river as soon as UPS hands it over to you and never active it, ever.
So: the actual activation of the device does not warrant the upgrade fee, the fact of you using your upgrade and resigning the 2 year agreement does. Thats why it is officially called an "upgrade" fee. An activation fee is when you initially sign up with Sprint.
Hope that helps.
I called Sprint retention department recently before I preordered from Amazon and asked them specifically about the activation fee and she was willing to waive it for me. What she did tell me though was they could not pre-emptively waive it. It needs to go through and to charged to my account first, then I can call in again and have them take it off.

Hate to break it to you, but this will NOT work. The reason you can swap other phones w/o charge is that they have been active on atleast one other account prior to yours. I can tell you this from exp I fought them on 3 fees for a week due to this. The phone had been on a friends account prior. now if you were to buy it from CL or Ebay, after it has been active on another acct first then you would not be charged.

this is spot on and worded perfectly. Also, Bestbuy now uses BEAST only for processing new activations and upgrades instead of SNAP (i believe to track margin) but still has access to SNAP for other changes.

You want to avoid the activation fee here is how. Buy the phone at full price, or ebay price from a reseller. Once you get the phone go on your Sprint account and do the online activation.
If you want that $199 price you are going to pay the activation fee, it'll get charged to your bill.
Open a credit union account, credit union discount waives activation fee.

I called and asked them to waive it due to the delay in shipping, and they did
I called in account services as recommended else where in this thread.
What they offered me was a credit equal to the base rate - my employee discount if I extended the contract for another year. This extension is for the contract only and does not affect my equipment upgrade dates. Once I do upgrade the equipment, the date then gets pushed back another year from the time of activation (so the usual 24 months after activation). I only have one line with them with a MRC of $69.99+10 (no discount on the $10 though). I still have ~6 months on my current contract too.
I decided to go ahead with the offer since they're still the cheapest around here, and hopefully once lte roll out is completed, data will improve too. This credit cancels out the activation fee and a little more.
ymmv, but at this point I think they'll be making concessions to most customers, even those who in the past may not have qualified.

That was my plan after I got my phone. Ask for a refund due to the hassle. Shouldn't be too difficult to get someone to credit it.
i dont pay activation fees. its part of my corp. discount w/ accenture.
it doesnt matter where i buy the phone. i got an evo3d via amazon 1 cent sale and a second one at radio shack for 49.99. they didnt even attempt to add it to my bill. the guy at radio shack mentioned it, but when i got the bill, there was no fee.
some others offer this too. aaa for example.

This is a good idea but if you have worked for Sprint you know that just placing the phone on the account will generate that $36. It's just labeled an activation fee. It literally takes nothing to activate a phone. Just a simple "hey let me use your connection" from your phone to the Sprint Network and then Sprint replies with a "well let me make sure your on an account via your dec number" then boom! the phone is connected.
that though sadly is not what generates the fee its the simple act of placing the phone on an account. Seriously go buy a phone via upgrade then dont activate it till after you recieve your bill. you will still see that fee on there even though your phone is still in the box. (not that anyone will do this) haha
Whenever you purchase a new phone that has never been activated before, you ALWAYS pay a one time activation fee. After that you can swap it from phone number to number and you will no pay it again. Is a one time thing.(I called Sprint twice and both reps said the same thing)
I just got my fee waived via a "promotional" discount the CS rep said they had. Not sure if that's true. I also used some info found in Ramit Sethi's scripts. Worth a call or two to get it waived.
I ordered my phone online, activated it online, and was still hit with the activation fee. Their bullsh!t excuse when I emailed them wad that they have to do such things to keep the subsidized prices on the phones low... to which I replied that I paid full MSRP and if I had bought it second hand, there'd be no activation fee. I concluded saying that I may never buy a phone through Sprint again. It has been escalated and I've been playing phone tag with someone higher up. I'll post back with how it turns out.

Ok so i just went to the verizon store to buy a droid dna on a new line and then activate it on my number. They did not have any in stock so they are having the phone shipped to me. I have a basic phone ready. Once i receive the device, and activate it on my sim as opposed to the one they give for the new line and then activate the basic phone on the new line, will I be charged data fees on the new line? Or just the 9.99 for an extra line (which is what I need)? Also, how long does it take for the new phone number to show up on your verizon account after you buy it?

Ok so i just went to the verizon store to buy a droid dna on a new line and then activate it on my number. They did not have any in stock so they are having the phone shipped to me. I have a basic phone ready. Once you switch the new device over to your current line and put the basic phone on the new line, you will only pay for the basic phone and not days on that second line. The amount depends on your plan. Sharee Everything charges $30 for a basic phone and the grandfathered family plans are $9.99. Not sure how long it will take for the new number to show up though. Possibly not until you activate the new device. You can do that online or over the phone.

So in order to get the basic phone activated, would I have to go into a store and ask them to activate it form me? How will they know what line to activate it on if I can't even see the number of the new line?

You can activate it after the fact, once the new phone arrives. The new line will activate once the new phone order completes. You can then either call or make the swap to the basic phone on the new line online.

Can i activate the basic phone before the new dna arrives? I called verizon and got the new number
Just wait until the phone arrives and do the switch on the spot. No new one charges will be added to the account.

Not to my knowledge since the line gets activated with the order completion in this case. Poster above me has the right idea.
ok so just to confirm i got this right let me repeat what i think the process is. I get the phone on friday, pop in my sim into the dna and activate it on my line. Then I can call verizon on the basic phone using *228 and get them to activate the basic phone on the new line. By doing this, the new line will be charged 9.99/month (i am not on share everything) and I will not be charged 30/month on the new line for data. Can you guys confirm this? Sorry for being annoying but I need to make sure i get this right. Thank you guys so much for your help.
No!
Your phone gets there on Friday. Do not put sim inside any of the phones just go directly to a Verizon store and have them do a swap.
If you do it over the phone they will prolong the process by a lot and you might still get charged for the data plan. I have done this plenty of times and I always have them do the swap free of charge.

No need to leave your house. Simply activate the phone via the automated phone number or online (info will be included). Once line and new phone are active, you can then do an "Activate or Switch Device" online via your My Verizon account. You can move the new phone to your line and then add the basic phone to the new line. You may have to call them if you run into issues activating the basic phone on the new line. I had to call once, but they had me taken care of within 5 minutes.

I am talking from experience.... On the phone they will give you a hard time lol
Do what you want to do..
I have a Verizon store 3 miles away so it wasn't a hassle to leave my house.

I think I'll go to the store just to be safe. Would it be ok if I went to an authorized reseller instead of an actual verizon store? Because there is one about a block away from my house

I went to the authorized retailer. Make sure that the store is legit. Don't go to those retailers in the mall cubicles..

You're complicating an otherwise simple process. I too speak from experience and, shall we say, insight. But I digress- so what you will.
I work for verizon. What I understand is that you added a new line to get a smart phone at reduced price. So you have a new phone number that you won't be using. You'll be moving the smartphone to you already existing old line...
Knowing this, it's best to wait to receive the equipment. There's absolutely no need to go to a Verizon store (if you ultimately have to, I recommend the corporate stores.).
When equipment is received don't automatically power on the device as activation will fail. Call the IVR at 1-877-807-4646. Follow the prompts until it states "To activate your phone on xxx-xxx-xxxx now hit 1. To activate later hit 2". You'll want to hit 2. Go to your My Verizon, do activate or switch device, and pick your phone line and enter meid and sim card #. If it's an embedded sim the number is on the box of your phone.
Edit: You probably won't be able to use your existing SIM card as it's probably a larger sized sim and not the micro sim.
As far as charges go as long as a non smartphone goes on the new line, you will not see a data charge.

I know that this is a simple process But Verizon has screwed me over to many times.
I got my girl an Iphone 5 last week because her 4s broke and I told the rep to change my family plan to the shared uimited and he forgot. I call Verizon to check on a new line for my brother and I found out that all the corporate rep did was use the upgrade on my girls account and nothing else.
New charges were added to the account because of the data and it was a whole big mess. The charges were removed after we figured it all out.
My point is that once you go to the store call them and make sure everything was done correctly.

Sorry about the issues you had but I'm happy that your not bitter about it and a supporter of Verizon still. And verifying changes is a good thing. This is a completely automated process involving no human interaction to screw anything up however. But that is why we have phone support as well as B&M stores. It's your choice.
