I hate to add another country to the list, but do any Sony Tablet S owners in Canada have the update yet? I have been restarting and hitting the update button for the last two days and still nothing. I know they said Japan and US were suppose to get it in the next two days and Europe in a couple weeks (that's what I heard), but what about Canada? Do we full under to US umbrella?
no updates in Alberta so far.....
i remember seeing someone saying that Canada wont be getting the update until May 3rd, in one of the posts in "How many user have received ICS update" topic
yea sony said may 3rd : ( that sucks....
May 3rd for Canada? Where did they say that?
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using XDA Premium HD app
Still nothing for Canada
Guess im not the only one not getting the update.....
One more week
I'm in Newfoundland and didn't get it. I got a little frustrated and used Condi's tool to change my region to the US and then just get the OTA update. It worked flawlessly and immediately!!
My recommendation: You guys do it too! The ICS update for the Tablet S is the greatest update I've ever seen a piece of electronics receive. Everything runs WAY better, the new features are fantastic, my battery life is (strangely) much better, the keyboard input issues are totally fixed, and then you can get google chrome as well.
I nearly bought a new tablet every weekend, but this update totally saved it. I'm now a reborn sony fan and will definitely wait to get their next tab now.
...Now if you'll excuse me I have to go THANK every post Condi has ever made lol. Stop praying for that UPDATE SYSTEM button to work and just go the root method

Hmm, I never tried that... But I just tested it and yes, it works.
Unfortunately it's still the same catalog of games there lol. I wish the entire selection that's on PSN was there but oh well
I just talked with Sony Support today and asked when ICS would get released for the Canadian Tablet S. They told me May 10th (I guess the same as Europe). Anyone know why they would release it so much later for the rest of the world than for US and Japan? I can only hope our update will have all the bugs worked out from the US release lol
@MarkB: Did you lose root after you did the upgrade?
Has anybody in Canada done the rooted ICS steps on the AiO post? What have your results been?
I just finally got root, so I'm a little bit gunshy on updates yet.
Thanks!
I went through the complete steps and things worked out fine. Unfortunately Im having issues with some of my apps thought (but I doubt its related)

Yes you WILL lose root when doing the ota update for US region. I only rooted to change the region to get the update tho, so no 'loss' for me.
I'd say someone will eventually figure out how to root the ICS rom anyways, so no big dealo
Thanks MarkB. Still considering setting up the AiO Rooted ICS, or saving that until the Canadian update is released.
I used to follow the PSP Hacking scene, and when a hack was opened for a previous version, the rule was to ALWAYS wait for a hacked update. I think Sony spends more time locking its software down than developing new stuff...
Good to hear that we have something to look forward to!

If you can wait, then definitely do that! lol
I couldn't wait... I knew sony said "the end of april" for the release date, so I was getting off work and nailing that System update button every 20 mins for the past week. I'm just way too impatient and couldn't wait any longer haha.
Anyways, Tegra 3 with a 1280x800 screen and 1GB of RAM isn't evnough of a boost to upgrade now. The next thing to get excited for is to see what Sony's next tablet is going to be like... and I believe we'll be seeing it soon enough
Is content on the stores locked by the device? In other words do you currently see movies and such that other Canadian tablets don't see?

Everything seems to be exactly the same concerning market content.
a second tech from sony told me the release for Canada would be this week.
Hopefully someone with a rooted Honeycomb tablet can use the ALLinONE Tool to download the encrypted OTA update so we can pre-root it.
I didn't bother waiting and installed the US pre-root.

Are we going to root the Android 2.2?
We could use some of that Flash!
Release on Android Developer!
I know someone who has it rooted already, but on a droid. I dont know what exploits will work for the version for the eris, as it will be different. The droid 2.2 (and root)hasnt been released sure to a google sign in issue, making the phone useless with no contacts or activation.
anyway, yes it will be rooted.
All in due time kids, the SDK was literally released about 12 hours ago. It would be silly to expect a workable rooted 2.2 rom.

1) Eris wont support flash, its arm6 and at this time the flash libraries are arm7.
2) We won't have it officially on the Eris, there wont be any rooting it. It will have to be ported or compiled for th eris, and installed on a pre rooted phone.
3) There is not any one who "rooted" this on the droid, all droid installed are after market or developer installs, and are installed on prerooted phones.
You sure Eris won't get 2.2? That makes me sad... Looks like I might end up rooting my phone so I can get it.
Damn......I was looking forward to getting the 2.2 update for my Eris!

2.2 wont be sent to our phones. we wont even get the update, rooted or not. the only way to get it is to root your phone and put on the ported rom.
Why won't the Eris get the update? I get sick of hearing that companies decide to leave like 3 phones off the list and update everything else.
What does the new update entail anyway? Is that the "froyo" update people keep mentioning on blogs and news pages?

I didn't realize the Eris was out of production. I only got my Eris in January.
That would explain it though. Not that I'm going to switch, you guys have any recommendations on another android phone? I heard people are loving the Nexus One.
I got my eris in january as well.. I am going to ride it out, until I get the new every 2 upgrade discount or whatever... Im running 2.1v3 now, and have nothing but time to wait until it's rooted, or not, doesn't really matter lmao.. A newer, more powerful phone will more than likely be free in a year and a half anyways... So i'm good. I wouldn't go spend money on another phone right now, unless you are just that much of a tech junkie lmao
Idk if I can root my phone.
I have some f*cked up version on mine that came though Insurion and I don't know what to do with it. It works fine but I would like root for 2.1 OTA running 1.49 HBOOT. (Ya, I know, it's weird huh.)

such a shame
how verizon has treated eris owners. it is capable of far more than what verizon released it with. if they would have maxed it out and marketed it, it would probably be one of the top cell phone sellers. and verizon should continue to support this device considering of when they took it out of the stores was recently. they should be required to support it for 2 years after it was pulled for the customers who purchased it at the last minute so they will be taken care of through their 2 year contract. dont have us sign 2year contracts if your not gonna support the product for the period of our contract.

1. If you don't mind me asking how exactly did Verizon treat Eris owners so poorly?
2. Just because Verizon has stopped selling the Eris does not mean they wont continue to support peoples hardware issues.
3. They don't owe you anything, lots of people buy cell phones when they are end of life. All those smart phones & feature phones that you see as "free" or less than $100 are more than likely EOL.
I'm wondering, once Google releases the source code for 2.2 and we get some roms cooking, will they be on the new boot loader so us people with 1.49 S-ON or one of the unrootable leaks can root to a new rom?
Come ladies and gentlemen, place your bets!
i think so lots of websites have scans of an internal memo stating the update as the 30th. if not the 30th then the 7th since thats when free hotspot promo ends and they said a software update would disable this.

Just wait for one of the devs to make a rooted version of the release and then flash the zip to your phone. Simple as pie.
you shouldnt update if you are rooted. wait for a rooted stock firmware.
I highly doubt it since there's been little or no talk at all about it. I was wondering since I just snatched one off of CL for super cheap. guess I'll go root instead.
I'd like to point out that it was all of 3 weeks ago they leaked something that looked like a reliable RUU called MR2 that was beyond question Froyo. Is it just me, or am I the ONLY one that took one look at that fake looking photo and said to myself "Dear God, the only thing that would look more fake would be a duck bill on a cactus." Can you imagine what the order for such a thing would sound like? "Hey, Johnny! We need and INTERNAL MEMO drawn up. Make sure to put our logo in the LEFT corner where NOBODY would ever put a logo on official stationary, be sure to add a picture of the device incase NOBODY has ever seen our first LTE phone, and definitely add specific OTA release numbers AND the radio version that will include so that our boys down in technical support will grow big rubbery ones as they dangle the information out there at hords of pimple-faced geeks calling with 'problems' but are really just hoping for the next big scoop for Androidforums.com" If Gingerbread come out in an official OTA today, I will eat my Thunderbolt and post the video on Youtube. Scheduled. But no specific release date. People have been saying March / April.
The Note should definitely be getting ICS.
Okay cool thanks guys!
I believe Samsung said in Q1, and a rumor just surfaced that it would be March 1.
Murphy is a cousin of mine so i say AT&T will update to ICS 2-4 months after Int'l ppl get it from Samsung.
i <3 you Murph!!
That's the worst part of this. My Cappy has been amazing with ICS. I'm almost tempted to keep it until the Note get ICS also.
Too bad the hardware is different for the ATT note (from International version), we don't have LTE in Seattle, but I dislike the physical button on the IV.
Oh well, here's hoping ATT doesn't run the same route as the Captivate (Froyo forever sucked, then Gingerbread last week or so! It was great to have ports of gingerbread well before ATT)
OP, if ics came to the g-note a week after tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough.
The captivate is freaking unbelievable running it. I to am enjoying it ...almost... enough to put off buying a new one. The cappy is a completely new phone...rom it on the g-note and it will -scream .... on ice cream. (sorry I couldn't help that last part)

ICS on AT&T Note is unlikely in first half of 2012. End of 2012, maybe. 2013? More likely.
It probably will not be ota.... There will probably be bootloaders if the notes ever get ics.
With my history on updates for at&t devices....if it EVER comes, count yourself
lucky. AT&T, except for the iPhones, delays, delays, delays updates.
I've had two non branded phones, and always get updates MONTHS before at&t updates.

Source? If that's just a guess, please say so.
After dealing with samsungs BS with the Vibrant, I don't believe a single word, promise, hint, or hope that they announce until I see ICS on my device. I love Samsungs hardware, but I have lost faith in the company itself long ago when dealing with my vibrant and our 10% out of the box fail rate with Sync Master monitors.
On a plus side, my vibrant runs ICS beautifully so I'm sure it will be even better on the Note once a few good ROMS are released and the bugs are worked out.

It's called common sense if you ever dealed with Samsung devices on AT&T in the past. Anything else is just naive thinking, or fantacy.
For the record, AT&T (not Samsung) is the one determines when an update will be available. And AT&T almost never give out release dates. In rare cases it did so (Captivate and Infuse GB updates are said to be available in fall 2011), they screwed it (both release in 2012).
So, any posting about release schudle is pure guess.

+1. If it comes in OTA, wait a few days. OTA update with bootloader change almost always bricks a few phones everytime Samsung tries it. Most recent is the GS2 Skyrocket 2.3.6 OTA last month.
We have to go through the phases of an over due update. We havn't even seen the numerous "i know someone who can say with certainty that..." or "my brothers cousins sisters poodles hairdresser brother works on the dev teams and said..." or my personal favorite "i know someone inside the company who says". Then there is the phase of dispair where people say they will never buy sammy again and will be selling this POS and so on. Check out the captivate and vibrant forums and you'll see lots. In the vibrants case, it was Samsungs fault for dragging their feet, not T-Mo as they hadnt received the software to bloatware onto when waiting for Froyo! Sit and wait and watch current ROM scene if you really want ICS.

That's the common mis-conception. Carrier bloatware is baked into the ROM by Samsung per carrier request.
Here is how a firmware update process goes:
1. The carrier in question must feel the need for an firmware update. It's a big deal because it has to allocate resources for extensive testing, training of CSR and actual releasing.
2. The carrier makes a request for new firmware to Samsung.
3. Samsung builds the new firmware based on carrier's request and send to carrier for testing.
4. The carrier test extensively of the new build. If there are significant problems found, it goes back to step 3.
5. After extensive testing, carrier OKs the new firmware but need to pick a release date. Most importantly it has make sure it won't jeopardize the sales of new phones.
6. Once received OK from carrier, Samsung can put out the new firmware.
I'm not sure we are even past step 1 yet.

Do you really believe they would have released an update while the Rezound has been on sale from last week through today. The release of ICS would not have been done until the sale is over. Otherwise you would have had units being sent out without ICS from the early part of the sale and then sent some out at the end of the sale with ICS. It would have complicated everything, now the sale is over they can address thier attention to releasing ICS. Well at least I hope.
I don't think that Verizon promised this update on 4/6/2012. Wasn't this a Best Buy bogus post for both the Razr getting ICS on 4/4 and the Rezpund 4/6, neither of whaich was true. I have not read anywhere that Verizon published this release date for ICS for the Rezound.
It wasn't confirmed by anybody but a BB poster which had no evidence behind it anyway.

all speculation and rumors at this point. im telling you guys, i don't expect it until at least summer.
I honestly don't care anymore. I have fully working ICS on my Rezound. If they never officially released it, I wouldn't care much since I already have it. What would be nice however, is if they dropped the source code on us for the leaks that are already floating around.
I still don't understand the outrage that some people have over it. I mean, the people that care about it are here or on other sites that have info about rooting and development - so if you want ICS - go get it. The rest of the people - they probably don't care because they just want their device to work, and it does out of the box untouched. It works pretty darn well too.

Shame it's a good phone... I was going to pick up a Nexus til I started seeing the issues they were having. Couldn't be happier with my choice to get a Rezound instead.
this is so far my fav phone period but i honestly doubt vzw will ever bother pushing ics onto this thing. if they do though, it'll be in the distant future when ics becomes standard on most devices.
Why care about a bloated up release from VZW that has an older version of Sense? When there are several awesome Sense 4.0 roms that run smooth as butter available for us to flash. Get with the times brotha.
Yup, the Z3v is actually getting 5.1.1! The Z2 Tablet is as well. I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm happy for you guys! I personally have a Z1s on T-Mobile that I am still hoping gets 5.1, but I very much doubt it at this point.

Do you think you'll be able to get a pre-rooted version of this? I'm in a quandary cause I have a replacement Z3V coming tomorrow. If this is released tomorrow maybe I'll just use stock until a root solution for 5.1.1 comes out. Advice?
I loved being proven wrong sometimes...this is one of those times.
The possibility exists they have patched the root exploits finally and that is why they are releasing it. I have a z2 Verizon tablet and at the moment there is no root for lollipop
Pleasantly surprised! Thought for sure this phone was done getting updates and i was stuck on nonrooted 5.0.2. I flashed it before rooting like an idiot

Now that I have a second z3V I'm opened to testing some things, so long as there is a somewhat reasonable main of error against "embrickment". I might require more paience than most because of where I'm at on the learning curve.
BTW, this update pretty much fulfills both Sony and Verizon's obligations to the z3V stepchild as Iunderstand it, so most likely no Marshmallow just because this is coming, correct?

Well the future seems pretty bleak between Sony and Verizon over this phone because Sony is really just done trying to work with Verizon over these update issues. One thing I can definitely let you guys know though is there is a high likely chance the bootloader unlock is about to become a real thing.
Other than that, the Z series is finished now. No plans for the Z6 as Sony has transitioned their portfolio for the new X series. I somewhat knew that because of the X Performance specs, that has to be their latest flagship. Your guys' thoughts?

Do you have any info on if the Z1s bootloader is about to be able to be unlocked as well? That would be amazing and make the wait for my next phone sometime this year a lot easier.

Anyone get it yet?
Z3v Software Update
Software Version: 23.4.B.0.319
and the surprise; i had an update message via sony bridge for like 2 month ago but i keep getting : error 1100 consult technical support … "when i try to upgrade"
Well what do you know there is an update, wonders never cease, will reserve further comments until it is actually confirmed rolling out.
Haven't gotten it yet here in Texas.
I guess the natives got to restless with the pitchforks and all.
Now just have to decide if I want the S5 or keep the Z3v, seeing this will more than likely be the last update this phone gets and the S5 will get Marshmallow for sure. And Advanced Calling 2.0 is right around the corner (Wi-Fi calling) and 5g.
If the bootloader gets unlocked then I would keep the Z3v, but the S5 has custom ROMs right now, root and bootstrap working.
Just got complicated.

Only article that says it will come in batches. I have both. I actually have to have my sim in my z2 tablet to even search for an update.
And of course I just sold mine, as in the last 10hrs
Why the presumption of the bootloader unlock possibility? How does the fact (yet to be proved) that they'll update to lollipop increase the odds that the bootloader will be unlocked?
