You can root anyway, it will not affect ICS.

Start to try with some custom rom, and when ICS will be official released you can do a comparative and choice your favourite one.
I don't think that will be problem. Am i wrong?

Good to hear it is still coming,
Another question: Will ICS give the minipro a preformance boost or would it do the opposite?

Likely will do the opposite as ICS needs more power to run smoothly with all the new functions.
hmmm,
I was hoping it was going to be like when I went from Froyo to Gingerbread on my HTC Desire, there were a lot of preformance improvements and also battery improvements.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.

However, although ICS is new and compelling in many ways, we would like all of our users to make an informed decision when selecting what Android™ software to use. We are actually proud to say that our Gingerbread software is very stable and has great performance, so it’s not a bad idea to stay on this release. Ice Cream Sandwich is more intensive, for example in terms of resource usage. As smartphones become more capable, our own applications, as well as the Google Mobile Services (GMS) applications, are becoming more advanced, which means that they require more CPU power, run more network activities and use more RAM. On the other hand, ICS brings a refined UI and some nice new features as described below.

Thanks for the link.
What I understand from this article is that ICS uses more RAM. But this is in fact not really a big issue, because android decides for itself which apps will run and which will be closed? I don't care if an app I opened 2 hours ago will be automatically closed.
Or is this not the right way to think about it?
Well, since everything WILL be more Ram consuming, and you're not really looking for extreme multitasking (even with 180MB of free Ram, if i exit Temple Run by pressing the home button, read a message and re-enter it will reload the game), then i suppose that the way ICS is built, it will be a win-lose situation. You will lose in terms of multitasking, but "might" win in terms of speed and battery usage.

Android itself uses more RAM, leaving less free RAM, means less multitasking and possible lag in games.
Also, processor usage will be higher.

hey guys i have been wondering this question for a while but what is so great about the ics update anyway, can you tell me why everyone loves it.
hi, yeah it's starting to become a pet peeve of mine as well i feel. i'm on stock gb 2.3.5 and i'm glad i haven't downgraded to ics on my gs2 (Three network uk).
what's the point? no big changes , you loser app compatibility for the foreseeable future anyway) and it takes more than 200 megs of space.
but my major reason for not updating or downgrading to ics is because I've read somewhere that it's not good on battery consumption. also it's not the FULL MONTY as well! WTF!!!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I tried it for a day, disliked how it connects to the pc as a phone not storage device.
Im on GB, and its more reliable also when ics hung it took a while to tell me the program crashed then the app behind it would be reported as not responding also, by then i would have turned the display off and do something else
ICS will be great when mods play with it, the performance is great and its all smooth,i guess dual core has been improved.
The battery life wasnt better due to bloatware running in the background, exchange email was running without any email given
sent from my nokia 3310
For me, I think the official ICS still lacks many performance issues. Should wait for a while before a couple more updates are released.
CM9 however seems more promising.

Ok dudes, Sony announced that the ICS upgrade may not be a good idea regarding device performance.
I know that I will not update my phone, since I don't see any use for it. Already tried ICS on transformer, and didn't see much reason to risk any performance issues.
Feel free to write your own opinion.
I don't mind the thing regarding device performance or its effect on the battery since I do not use the phone for gaming or something; just browsing/sms/calls/music/videos&photo and it lasts 24hours or more *am currently satisfied and using stock with no tweaks*. I like to try something new
i will try ICS
I will surely update to ICS as the web browsing is better in it and i mainly use it for calling and browsing
Performance issues are made up by sony. the miniCMsandwhich by Kamarush is running really well, everything is buttery smooth. and battery is really ok, too.
so if sony would put some serious effort into ICS, I'm sure they could make it run, I think they just look for an excuse to sell new phones and not put any effort in old phones.
although it doesn't look like sony will make a new keyboard-phone, at least i haven't read about any.

It does not mean that sony has excellent or worse devs, they have to integrate other things like their xperia facebook sharing and other stuffs possibly including another new drm feature *yes it is minor* but they also have to ensure that it will be stable and good on our phone; remember ICS was built and designed for a powerful phone so it will take a while to port it to our phones; i.e. bugfree, stable and easy on battery.
There is already a thread with the same type of discussion...
As I said on that particular thread, all current ICS users (kamarush,exMIUI,CM9), what is your battery drain %/hour? Because mine with Spartan Rom is around 0,5%/hour with 2g only active, and in deep sleep mode.
IF Sony's 4.0 manages to have that sort of battery drain I will update. Until then, GB is more than enough for me.

I just heard that the official ICS update is postponed again, mid april for the first few 2011 xperias, mini and mini pro coming later, like end of may to mid june:
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/products/2012/03/30/the-vans-around-the-corner-android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-software-upgrade-coming-to-2011-xperia-smartphones-starting-from-mid-april/
I can see it's tough to put all those things in a ROM, and I agree on the longer testing period. At least Sony does release updates, we should be happy we don't have a SGS
mid Aprils is NOW!
Haven't seen anything about a released version for the Arc S yet, but it should be just around the corner. Let's see if Sony keeps the revised schedule.
I will update my SK17i as soon as there is a final ICS available. Let's see if it will be CM or Sony ;-)
Tested CM9 (RC0, 115) already and it looks promising. The BT media issue made me switch back to stock for now.

if Sony dont want to update to ICS our xperia 2011 for low end device such as xperia mini/pro, live for walkman etc. Why dont they just make it open source for our device just like beta for Play or Ray? They afraid they will lost customer but they already lost many customer. Thats why they use promotion for new device but same performance. Stupid strategies.
Xperia Mini and others are not low-end devices. First, specs are higher than some devices. Second, these phones are inside same as Arc, Ray, Neo. Chipset is the same. That means if ray gets ICS, then others can have it also.

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could possibly give reviews/sceenshots of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X, as I may be updating once it is rolled out in Australia. Are there any bugs or glitches, or any unwanted new features. Are there useful new features and is it worth the update from ICS to JB. Thanks!
(P.S. Is Google Now enabled? It looks really useful.)
dont bother, some of us (including me) already went back to ics, cause as of now there's no big improvement in features/speed/anything.
even without the two bugs (transparent statusbar wont change background with scrolling, headphone-sound is horrible) it wouldnt be a "must have" imho
google now is included, yes (you have to set language to englisch i think, otherwise it wont work)
Jelly bean is awful. It's a miserable pile of crap. It doesn't work properly. It is slow. And my god, the sound...
Ok, well, my carrier Optus is insanely slow at rolling out updates, so even once HTC hopefully fix the performance issues and bugs, it will be months upon months after everyone else gets it that I get it. I think Im gunna stay on ICS even once I get the first version of the update available.
If you ask me Jelly Bean is faster 10 times than ICS.But thats all...2 new skins. No Full Sence and etc.
Ps:
Stock Browser is faster and have better preformance I like it before i didn use it but now i use is more than google chrome.
Sounds on headphones right now dont bother me cuz my headphones are broken But im with them 80% of my time I will w8t for fix and then will buy new...

Well i feel it smoother in apex launcher, and dunno about sense (don't like it) also apps work great ram management is better and multitasking much faster. Battery hold more for me on heavy usage. But the sound is big let down and maybe the update screwed up the camera a little. When you taking a picture you can hear the lens trying to focus and then it clicks and picture jumps a little.

As for the Desire X jelly bean update, I think i'll give it a pass
I think CM9 has been discontinued on the Desire X he was up to alpha 2 last I saw, pretty sure hes waiting for JB open sources to come out and then start working on CM10, gutted about the JB update though took so long to come out and when it did so many people were checking to see if they could get it and now a little while later no one wants to touch it with a ten foot triple wrapped pole. By the way I saw somewhere the JB update the did was a beta version can anyone confirm this ?
Im glad you guys tested the JB, i'll just wait for some more updates...

Typically it would have a different ident code. That's how the developers keep track of their revisions. So if they modify anything or fix anything the commits would increment the number accordingly.
So, long story short, it should have a new code.

Android.process.acore force close fix for all devices running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) HTC has developed a fix for an android.process.acore issue affecting HTC devices running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Most products have already received this fix through regular software updates. you can install every ics-rom you want, just follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213663
your bootloader has to be unlocked to do so. and you have to flash a custom recovery.
you can unlock you bootloader by using this website http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
but be aware of the fact, that you MIGHT have a problem when it comes to warranty.
Just installed yesterday (Optus finally got off their arses), so far haven't noticed much difference, just read here about sound so tested, don't see any difference; then again I disable Beats (urgh), so maybe that's it?
MAJOR plus is that USB OTG is now enabled, so with a $2 adapter you can now access your USB sticks etc. Weirdly it doesn't show up under /mnt, is under /storage
Will test tonight if MHL is now working (dunno if it wasn't before or if I have incompatible hardware). Don't have a HDMI cable with me.
I am getting this phone tomorrow,so should i update to JB or not ?
Hello,
I have Sola for 6 months by now and it was a hell of a phone till i decided to upgrade to ICS. After that, my performance decreased signifcantly and I can't even do simple tasks. Tasks which a low end phone can do, even better then mine, such as the simple Galaxy Y S5360. And, yes, i get pissed when I look this phone behaving better then mine.
I tried to downgrade to GB, to upgrade to ICS, install a custom ROM of ICS and etc. Lately i tried Munjeni JellyBean, and after that, eXperience Innovation ROM. All of them have a good performance, but still, they do poorly then the Galaxy Y.
I miss my performance and i want to ask you guys, how the hell can i have my phone acting like a real dual-core phone?
Hope you guys can help me
Thanks

The jb roms are not really stable yet. You can try experience v2 rom which is ics based rom and then if you have an unlocked bootloader u can change kernels or even oc ur device. And also what di you mean by slower?

Won't the GB experience would be faster/more efficient? Can't you guys reccomend me any "THE ****" rom for Sola? I mean...a kernel and a rom that can really bring me the experience of having a good phone (again).

Root it and debloat it asap. It would fly on and won't get back to Earth then, I bet.
Back up always before doing stuff
Before even thinking about installing new roms, kernels, mods, tweaks.. anything be sure that you've backed up using recovery and have saved it not only on your phone but your pc also.. that way if anything f***s up, all you need to do is restore and your saved.
Okay, i need your guys help again.
My phone did great till now, but its kinda slow already. So, i want to upgrade the kernel/rom/whatever to make it fly again. Would you guys recommend me some updates?
I was thinking of "eXperience Innovation" or maybe "Ultimate Rom V11". Those roms will make my phone better? As i said previously, I just need my phone behaving like a dual-core powerful phone as it is.
Thanks :cyclops:
Install cm9 or cm10.1. best roms for our phones, hands down
I suggest that you must try project xvr rom, its more stable and really smooth, no problem with multitasking, etc.

I still hate LG launcher. It's laggy as s**t.
And there isn't much of a performance improvement, sadly.
i will try later thanks!
Well, after all, it is a huge improvement over V20A firmware. I kind of starting to love it, though I miss my language.
Mine was sluggish because many system files got corrupted when tranfering from one PC to another and deodexing screwed it up even more. Play Store didn't work, Play Services was crashing whole time, and many apps didn't work as they should.
Now I've redone everything, extracted system files, putted my newest kernel, added init.d support, but left odexed, because I don't play with Xposed at all and, in my opinion, odexed ROM is faster ROM
And what do you know - it's snappiness is now on par with Jelly Bean and CyanogenMod. Some apps got updated, notification bar now works miles better (in V20A it was way too laggy, though extensive tweaking reduced lag a little bit), lockscreen is also buttery smooth now. LG Launcher is still kind of poor, version in Jelly Bean is better choice.
And while it's branded ROM, there is a lot of bloatware, which really annoys and eats RAM.

That's all what I've gathered from an hour of usage.

Any chance you could release your "customized" ROM?

There is, though I don't know, when it will go online, because it would take ages to upload the ROM.
I'll see, what I can do.
Is it compatible for us p713?
Sent from my LG-P713 using XDA Free mobile app
Anyone tried the LED on this ROM? Not just the basic options (Missed calls, mails, SMS), but also other apps (like Whatsapp).
I currently have the AmigaKitKat ROM, which I'm very pleased with. However the LED problem drives me insane.

I still have the same issue regarding LED (yellow light for no reason).
I guess I'll just use older drivers in my newer kernel build.

If I recall, the yellow light for no reason was something that happened if you set up charging LED. What interests me is whether LED control apps like Light Manager or Light Flow work now (when all LED options are unset except for the external apps one).
