I know that you cannot access the stock widgets with ADW. I also understand that the app that is floating around here (appwidgetpicker) does not work with HTC (of if it does, someone let me know where it should go).
So the question is, how do we get to them?
You don't. They are integrated into the sense framework and only work with sense. This question has been answered 10000000000000000000 times.

i meant the contacts, not the widget. the dialer and contacts which is call contacts on vanilla but people on sense. i do not like the layout of the contacts on vanilla.. is there anyway like import the sense people over or something?
These types of questions are asked so often....
the answer is no, definately not, never will, never can. You need all the htc frameworks for it to run, and to have those the rom needs to be sense based.

Try Dialer One from market or aTAKEphONE. Last is paid app and first is free. They have kind of sense-like-dialer suggesting names while typing numbers or t9 letters.
your only option is a sense rom that has had most of the other sense stuff ripped out of it.
like superhero 2 (by the villain team) or similar.
Couldn't you just use a sense rom and then use the default android home? That's give you the htc framework and the vanilla interface.

the ones with much of the other sense stuff ripped out actually do perform faster than full sense roms just running a different launcher. it's strange, but true. It hink sense must run a bunch of background processes or something that aren't absolutely necessary for the most useful sense stuff to still be available (like the people app etc).

and how so we change the colour of the dailer? and the contacts
Well, is there any program that makes Android menu "sideways" instead of down? List is soo long, would be much easier just to scroll sideways.
If this has been asked before, sorry, but couldnt find any when I searched
What menu specifically?

If you mean your application menu, i believe ADW launcher has a setting for this (or LauncherPro).. i forgot which one it exactly was, but i've seen it for sure with one of these
That of course, if you mean your application menu
Sorry, yes, application menu, but if I get adw or launcher.pro, do I have to get rid of sense then?

That...is a very good question.
I only used ADW or LauncherPro on non Sense builds. I honestly have no idea if they work with Sense too..

ADW launcher replaces the sense launcher... And it's the one that has the horizontal application scroller. There must be a way to do side scrolling though inside some app drawers like Launcher Pro and SenseUI.

Crap, don't want to replace Sense.
Anyone else maybe know this?
Sorry, but bump?
I have been trying a lot of android builds and I guess that the only place where I came across the horizontal scrolling option were in non-sense ( ) builds. I prefer sense too... so its a shame. Hoping someone can help with this one ..
With all the people out there interested in getting rid of the sense features on their phone and going full aosp.
I think it would be cool to strip down a sense rom and replace the sense features with mock sense applications. I for one know that you can get a mock sense 3.0 lockscreen and you can make your home screen look pretty close to sense with some fancy widgets and adw ex launcher. I would like to keep the quick settings bar as well, but strip it down some and add the pull down settings like aosp, but keep the task manager thingy. That's pretty cool to me.
Anyone up to the task of putting that one together?
There's already two I think like that, but suggest it in the appropriate ROM threads where the devs ask for ideas.
EDIT: Yea senseless and supra I think has what your looking for.

Thank You. Will do.
So you want to take the sense applications out of sense and replace them with applications that aren't sense but look like sense?
Dialer one can be made to look a lot like the sense dialer, and with a lot more options and customization.

Just a random idea. I've seen others do it with the EVO 4g. Supposedly makes it faster. I'd like to see it. That's all.
Is there any way to disable Sense if I'm using Nova or another 3rd-party launcher? I still have Sense running in the background eating up resources even though I'm not using it... ugh.
No sir.... Best bet is to flash the somesense Rom and use a custom launcher. The only other way to do it is through an aosp Rom. Currently we have a pretty smooth cm9 in the dev section, but it doesn't have a few vital things working yet

You can freeze our uninstall the sense launcher along with any apps/widgets you don't use if you have a third party launcher installed. I've done this. I wouldn't go uninstalling things without knowing what it is first.

That requires root I assume?
Yes and a lot of research as you might disable a vital component on accident and then you have to really flash a new Rom.

Yes, to freeze sense and other widgets u need to root. Wish u didn't. Hate having to give up twc tv on phone and renting movies thru google play. But I guess torrents and better multitasking will make up for it...

As stated above, you must be rooted to do this stuff, but in case you wanted to know...
I uninstalled just about every sense element I could find in TitaniumBackup and use Apex launcher in place of the stock one. Interestingly, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the stock ICS lockscreen popped up after uninstalling the sense lockscreen, so I don't have to run any 3rd party LS app. Also I have uninstalled the stock browser and clock, replacing them with the apks I pulled from CM9, mostly because I like the look and feel a little better, but also sense alarm wouldn't display on the ICS LS--CM9 alarm does. I had the CM9 message app on my LTE also, but found I was unable to send or receive MMS. I didn't really investigate too much further to try to get it working and I don't know if it is even possible. EX Dialer offers a more appealing phone app than does the sense version as far as I'm concerned.
There are ways to make your phone look differently, but as you said sense eats up the background, and I feel the CM9 apps run a little lighter. I enjoy a much better experience without the Sense stuff as it feels a little closer to AOSP now.
Good luck should you decide to try some of the suggestions, and remember, always always have a backup.
How did you remove the location icon?

What kind of vital things? Is it stable enought to use as a daily?
The part of sense that is still running is the 35MB shell or so of basic sense functionality throughout the whole phone.
You're not able to get rid of that, but if you use another launcher you already not loading up the launcher portion of sense. If you used the sense launcher, you'd see Sense go up to over 100MB, since the basic sense of 35 + the launcher of about 70 something will kick you over 100MB. So the fact that it still sits in the 30s shows you're not using the launcher, but Apex or Nova or whatever is probably taking up 50-70MB itself.
Right, so really no win unless you root and disable... thanks for the input all.

Thanks for your post. I like AOSP so much better, and hadn't even thought of removing htclockscreen and also using click and browser. Gonna give it a shot. Can't wait til we get AOKP functional.

Hi all!
So I'm fairly sure that there isn't another topic like this one, I did a couple searches. But I'm sorry if that's incorrect.
I just flashed MIUI 2.8.10 today and have been messing around with the options on it. Very cool ROM, I like it a lot, I just have a couple questions about it.
1. Is there a way I can speed up the lockscreen? As of right now my actual homescreen and phone interaction is very snappy and fast, but the lockscreen is sluggish. Is there any way to get the lockscreen up to par with the homescreen?
2. Are there any lockscreen options (e.g. customizing the lockscreen apps, etc.)? I've been searching around the system settings, etc. and I can't find any. When I get a text, I can't navigate right to it from the lockscreen (I can navigate to the messaging app from the lockscreen, but not right to the actual text message. I know that's picky, it's just a question.
I appreciate any help I can get! Thank you, there are still a lot of aspects of this ROM that I do not know about.

Glad you are liking the Rom!!!
Unfortunately, the lockscreen speed is due to the limitations of our device's CM9. Once Dragonzkiller has kexec working a lot of Roms (including this one) will see a huge performance increase. Also, the only way to really customize the lockscreen is by themes. Unfortunately some of the things you are asking are just impossible with the current set up. You may be able to try WidgetLocker for a lockscreen with a lot of customization.

Gotcha, that's cool. Thanks anyways! I'm definitely enjoying the ROM so far, Supercharging as I type this. It's a little weird getting used to all the MIUI apps that are on here, so I've renamed a lot to .bak. Another slightly beginner question, can I rename the MIUIHome.apk to .bak assuming I already have set Apex as my default launcher?

Yes and I actually recommend it if you are using another Launcher. If not, it will still load in the background and eat away precious RAM.
