Hey guys
I got this phone in August last year. I have bad luck with phones so I want to repair this one instead of getting new one. In the last 2.5 years, this is my 4th phone and I don't like upgrading phone all the time.
Earlier in January, I dropped my phone. Screen worked fine and everything but had a crack. I send for repair. The guy gives it to someone else without my permission to repair it. They repair it and since day 1 the top of screen is unresponsive. I turn screen off and on and then it works. The repair guy won't speak to me any more.
Now it has become permanent. It doesn't bother me as much but I hate it when random keys are being pressed. I think it's because of the pressure built on top?
I then again broke the screen accidently. So now I want to do it myself then get a defective screen and lose more money.
This is my first time changing the screen. To change the screen, do I follow same tutorial as outlined in the the sticky or is there something else? Also I'm confused as to what needs to changed. I don't know if they took something out of my phone and replaced it with something cheap. So do I simply replace the top layer of screen or the LCD? If the LCD, how would 3D work?
Also eBay is filled with screen replacement. If someone can give a link to a cheap deal that will fix my phone, it'd be great! Also the repair guy wrecked the housing of my phone. Is it replaceable?
Last but not least, should I sell the phone once fixed or I can continue to enjoy it? As in, will it break down again later down the road?
Go on amazon.com and buy a digitizer and follow the instructions guide to replace it. I'm not sure if you can buy a new housing or not. Replacing the digitizer should fix your issue. Also, be very careful that you do not tear any ribbons when replacing the digitizer. If you tear one, your phone will be no good.
Also, you could always just warranty it a sprint store. 9 out of 10 times they don't look for the sticker that tells if the phone has been opened or not.

If you can't help the OP then don't post, simple as that.
If you're in canada, look on your local Kijiji site. I've fixed HUNDREDS of iPhone and Android devices simply by advertising on Kijiji.
Look there, find someone who does iPhones and email him. He'll have the tools and expertise to properly repair your phone.
There is a screen replacement guide stickied in this very forum.

Small claims should do it.

Sorry didn't tell about the phone.
It's from Rogers.
There is a sticker over the screw and when the tool is inserted, it voids it (the sticker goes in).
The guy won't reply to email and I really don't want to deal with another tech. So many just take any mobile when they have no clue and look up google to fix it! They won't even spend enough time to ensure it's ok because they have others to fix. I don't want to explain what happened between me and the tech guy as someone will post another "cool story bro" pic. Wasn't expecting that on this forums...
Anyway I doubt I can order from Amazon and having wasted so much money, I'd really appreciate if someone can link me to eBay for screen and digitizer (assuming it fixes the top of unresponsive screen)
So where did you sent it off for repair in the first place? IMO, you paid for a service, and if that service wasn't completed correctly, you send it back and they do whatever they have to do to make it right.
Don't you have insurance? I'm confused right now.
If you can't help the OP then don't post, simple as that.

I found someone on craigslist who said they will do it
They said it'd be done tomorrow. Takes them 1 week for parts to arrive.
Parts arrive, they go under renovation
2 weeks after, they open it up and say they don't have tools to finish it
1 week later I get it and it's repaired by someone else
Tell them problem, they say ask them since they repaired
The third party says its firmware problem and can't speak English well and ignore me
Few weeks forward
Take iPhone for jailbreak
Pick it up, it doesn't work properly
Bring it back, they refund exact same money on spot
They say it was already a problem and they didn't do anything wrong and can put old firmware back again
They say take it to Apple, they know more
Apple says the phone is finished
I DONT want to spend countless hours going back and forth. I just want to do things my way. The amount of time spent, if I just went to work instead, I'd have gotten a new phone instead.

That was a warning after deleting 5 unnecessary posts.
if i root my phone, the screen issue isn't permanent, is it?
And this is the second time i root, after having permanent screen issue with HTC hero. So I'm a little worried. If it's safe to root without damaging screen, which root would be best? I just want to get rid of some Rogers programs as they're causing my battery drainage very fast. It's like 2% a minute! Also will a reset fix battery issues?
I am going to underclock my CPU to make battery life long.
Took Evo 4G in for repair a while back, the USB port wasn't charging right, but it would if you propped it up the right way. Anyhow sprint gives it back, won't charge at all, then they tell me I cracked the motherboard and I'll have to pay. My word against theirs, I ended up having to shell out 50.

Why are you bumping? There really isn't much you can do, you should have sought a reputable repair shop, not just some guy on craigslist. If the guy isn't going to honor his work, you are pretty much out of luck.

If any warranty solution is available. I would want it to work, before I am compelled to !
so, I guess.. There is no one here in Dell.
(Or anyone from India.. who has done it?)
Care,
Sony.
You can exchange it with Dell for a Refurbished for $250.00 if you are the registered owner or replace the lcd yourself for around $100.00.
Those are your options. Calling Dell other than to do an out of warranty exchange for 250.00 would be a waste of time since this would not be covered under the normal warranty.
My Otterbox Defender should be here today to protect my newly replaced screen.. .
May I can make you a little better...

I am even more sad, that you have a Smashed-up Streak too!!
I agree my damage is not as bad as yours.
I mean I can still operate the phone and all.
(I dont know if its safe to use it like that?!!, Is it?)
Two questions:
Are you from India (Or any country which does not have good Dell support!)?
What did you do about the damaged screen?
Edit: I was trying to check for the replacement screen from ebay, but, the 100 bucks screen does not ship to India!!!
If any of them does.. Puhleeez, let me know!

my brother broke his icd inside the gorilla glass. the glass didnt crack but the lcd did. i hope i can fix it for him lol
So I noticed that on my Photon screen there were two streaks which can be seen in the picture. One streak is much bigger then the other. I know the picture is pretty bad, did it on purpose so that the mystery smudges could be soon.
The weird part is that when I wipe the screen with the micro fiber cloth the screen looks brand new no smudges but it seems for some reason those two spots keep coming back as the screen gets used. Anyone have any thoughts? I have never spilled anything on the phone and I do not work in an abrasive environment. I have tried screen cleaner as well still no luck.
I wounder if sprint would fix this with TPE as wear and tear? Somehow I doubt they will though.
hmmm, well since i work at a sprint repair center, i'll just give you my personal opinion, if you brought to me, i would say it's either physically cracked or liquid damage of some kind, but i would have someone else confirm it, but, just take it to your local repair center and keep your fingers crossed it's covered if not, hey, a deductible for an insurance claim is still a lot cheaper $600
I had an issue similar to this with my evo 4g. I took it to the sprint store store and they replaced it the screen. They said it was pressure points on the screen. I have a thread posted on the evo 4g forums general section, cause just like you i was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong with. Must people said water damage...but i take good care of phones and never put them near any liquids.
So when u get a chance, search the evo 4g general forum...check out the pics of my screen and see if they're similar.

not sure if i agree so much with the liquid damage (but obviously it's difficult to know because it's a picture). It seems as if it is a pressure point like it was in your pocket. me being a tech i have no access to photon screens at all. so depending on how smart the tech you speak to is, it could go either through TEP or he/she would just swap it out.

Touche my friend lol
Because I spotted an little dust part under the screen off mine HTC Evo 3D i'm saying goodbye to it and selling it and I already find an buyer, just hope he keeps his promise and transfers the money Tuesday.
I really like the HTC Evo 3D, its an great smartphone and the 3D is an nice extra to have on your phone. Still I'm saying goodbye to it, only because off this issue, it really saddens me.
Its not really visible, so that's an good thing, because saying in an advertisement about the dust part would push the price down even though its an new phone and there by the new owner can also claim the warranty.
There are a few things that also saddens me about the HTC Evo 3D and one off is the plastic back off it, I really need use power to get it off and every time I'm afraid off breaking it.
And it is kind off an heavy phone, but that I took for granted. So where I go from here? I was thinking off buying HTC One X or HTC One S, but I would also like an tablet, only problem with most tablets you can't use an simcard.
And first I though about just going to get an new HTC Evo 3D, but because the new generation devices are coming now I will not do that. The HTC One X costs new € 551.
Another option is an tablet like the iPad, please don't shoot me, I know iOS is a closed system, but their new iPad costs the same as an HTC One S, only problem that's the WiFi version and its a little big to carry in mine pocket.
But it would be great for on the go for like watching movies. Either way I don't really like closed system iOS and its not as adjustable as HTC Sense. So I think HTC One X would be an better choice.
Wow
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Yeah it just been two weeks. When I got the money I could in fact get an new Evo 3D for € 20 less, but then I need to go to the same store as where I bought the one I got now, that is honestly an faster option then sending the one I have now for warranty.
First I was thinking, sell it and go to that store and buy an new one and hope it doesn't have the dust issue problem, but on internet I read it happens alot with HTC Evo 3D.
Now I'm thinking, sell it and add about € 270 and I can buy an HTC One X, as what for sense would it make to buy an new Evo 3D again as the HTC One X is released soon. Although I could still go and buy an new HTC Evo 3D as its right now € 269 in that same store, I payed € 289 and that is what I sell it for to, I just added the TPU case and spare battery.
Could always order new one off that. I'm just afraid that new one would get dust under the LCD screen to. Or did I just have bad luck with mine HTC Evo 3D? Well what would you guys say? I do like the 3D off HTC Evo 3D and its an great phone.
Should I just buy an new one again and give it an second change and hope that with this one nothing is wrong, that was mine original plan anyway when I came back and decided to sell this one now.
Oh yeah? Yeah.
I think an iPad is a great idea.

I would so laugh if the buyer sends it back because you haven't described the dust problem.

Ok dexter here's a little insight. First the reason there is dust under the screen is because the way they adhere the digitizer to the lcd . It's put together with adhesive on the edge of the lcd to make repair easier and cheaper. The new one x and one s is put togther by using a zero gap technology. Which apple and Samsung and the orignal Sony super lcd was suppose to use. So the new phones HTC is coming out with will not suffer with dust issue (don't quote me) because the whole screen and digitzer is glued together.

Well you know he doesn't have such rights as its an private sale. And like explained in post above the Evo 3D just suffering from that so it belongs to this phone, you have to live with it or send it for warranty.
Its not something I need put in the advertisement. But yeah if I didnt spot it then I would not have though off selling it, but I can not really see it, so the buyer will not see it to and when he does then he can contact HTC for the warranty or life with it.
I know its cruel selling an device because its imperfect, but its still new and if I read online then this dust is like an dead pixel, if its just one then its acceptable.

Of course he has rights, you are selling something as new when it isn't, imagine if YOU were receiving the so called as new phone and noticed the dust, you'd be annoyed wouldn't you? The device is in perfect shape, it just got an small little dust under the screen which you don't see unless you have light on it, like with this picture I used flash off mine camera to capture it.
Can I find it now? Well no I can't find any more. So its not something I need put in an advertisement, I put in advertisement, its 2 weeks old and in new state, I didn't put in advertisement its new, no its in new state, so almost new.
If I was selling it as new then it would be shady. New state just means its only used for short while and like new.

No he hasnt have any rights in my country. He buys an device that is in new state and it is in new state, that is got the dust issue, but its just one which you can't really see, because I asked some people today and most off them didnt see it, so its something I kinda got an eye for spotting, but others don't see it, but I do. well its new state, not new.
And you know, one thing I have learned from internet, on internet no one is telling the 100% truth, so why should I mention non issues, I also not mentioned with mine HTC Desire HD that it had an scratch and I mentioned it not for same reason as the dust, because you can't really see.
In advertisement he reacted on I writhed new state. But I understand your reaction. But I'm not scamming, I'm just not putting non issues in the advertisement. Its an issue for me, but I think 1 dust part is acceptable, I would have kept it myself if my eyes weren't like that they keep finding it even though its so hard to spot it.
I see good from close distance but not in far distance, for far distance I use glasses.
You know its even so terrible in mine that if someone scams you and you know who did that you probably will never see you money back, but I'm not scamming anyone, I just sell an phone as new state and new state difference from new.
I'm Dutch so excuse me for translating sometimes words wrong, like I put in title new and probably also put it in other messages in English.
Cool story bro
Sorry....just wanted to say it

Good luck with selling your phone if you need tell non issues.
I just choose to make very good pictures and be honest I can not find it right now. So really no reason to tell that if even I can't find right now. But on other hand I would never buy an second hand phone and also not in new state like I'm selling myself, everything I buy is new, so you can see mine exceptions are much higher then the person who wanna buy it from a private who sells its 2 weeks used phone.
They just buy it from an private to save some bucks.

But well what you guys think, going to HTC One X from here would be better right? I just kinda wonder did I get unlucky or many HTC Evo 3D have the dust issue? As I still consider it as an great phone and that is also why I'm thinking of buying an new one after I sold the one I have now.
So, basically, you're saying that you're not going to inform the buyer of the issue that is causing you to sell the phone because you're afraid he won't buy it and then criticising people on the internet for not telling the truth about stuff. Seems legit.

You can see it like that. And basically I'm doing it because MediaMarkt doesn't want to give me an new one, they drive me insane, so only solution I could though is get rid off it and buy an new one as it's now € 269 and i'm selling mine for € 295, the buyer said he really wanted it. But on internet I find also some threads that some people with the Evo 3D kept getting Evo 3D's with this issue.
So this is the way I can do it to. I really like this phone, it got an great feature set. And in fact I like the 3D feature set, its something other models, even HTC One X not has.
Great Novel Broham!
So you came in here to explain that you are scamming someone to sell your EVO3D too?.....why post this?....it is pretty clear you are bragging about not being completely truthful about the condition of the device and in turn misleading the buyer!...
All b/c you can't get your way on something so you in turn "screw" someone else....nice logic!
At first I was going to report the thread b/c it gets old hearing about ppl come and just post that they are leaving for another device...but after reading this, it became clear that it would be better if others can see this so they know to completely avoid any and all transactions with you going forward...
Its people that do things like this that make me sick to be honest...grow up bud and handle your own problems, dont shove them off to someone else like you are attempting to do...
What a douche. Hope everything you purchase is defective. Don't understand how you think It's okay, to do what you're doing.

Hello everyone,
I hate this to be my first post. I've tried to research what to do but with a combination of case by base variables and being new to the Smart Phone world I could really use some advice.
Here is the picture of the damage done. I'm with ATT and don't have phone insurance. I'm struggling with multiple facets of life and this happening to my first smart phone within a month makes a grown man want to cry.
Here is the picture of the damage done: postimage[dot]org/image/bu0b0rsyz/
Please excuse me cheating on posting a link Admins, I only have the best of Intentions.
The major hit was at the return button. From what I've gathered, the screen is actually adhesively one with the LCD. I briefly talked with a phone repair company who said it would be over 200 dollars.
I looked on ebay and found a lens/screen replacement for $20.00 - ebay[DOT]com/itm/Replacement-NEW-Glass-lens-screen-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-i717-Black-TOOLS-/170922060617?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27cbbfab49
Please tell me that this will suffice?
I was using a full sleeve case which needs upgrading as well. I've heard Otterbox recommended several times which I'm thinking about ordering.
Help is much appreciated, and I hope to eventually return the favor to this community once I start to catch up in knowledge.
Thanks,
Kenny

Hopefully one of the elder sages will post and point you in the right direction.. no matter the case, stuff can still happen.. hell, I busted the screen on an iPhone with an Otterbox.. granted the screen hit the corner of a table so that's not a run of the mill issue..
But definitely invest in a decent case, especially if you don't have insurance on your device..
And if you do decide to replace the screen yourself, read, read, read, read and then watch a few videos on how to do it proper.. no need for a risk of making the situation even worse..

The $200 -- LCD, digitizer, and front glass -- are replaced as a unit. Its many screws and parts, but there is a good youtube video for this procedure.
So there's no 30 dollar repair as I've seen mentioned before? It's still functional, will it get worse as I use it? Is there anything I can do to keep it from getting worse?
Please tell me an underwhelming, nondramatic few foot drop mistake isn't going to cost what I essentially make in 2 weeks, doing stressful and labor intensive work. =\
Thanks for the replies.
Three feet is a long way to fall for a $600 piece of some of the most advanced handheld electronics ever made. Pay the $200 and let a professional fix it before you make a bad problem worse and end up with 5 pieces of what used to be a smart phone.
I'm sorry about your your phone. Its happened to all of us at one point or another.

Looks like I'm the first to post about this in the HOX+ section
Had the phone face down after having recently rejected a call, my dad and I heard a tiny sound but didn't think much of it. Later when I picked it up I was in utter shock to find the screen had cracked. The phone is only 1 month or so old and HAS NEVER EVER been dropped.
I gave AT&T a call knowing I'd get no where...and yes, I got no where. So I called HTC and they were super nice. However, they pretty much told me that while screen defects are possible, it's next to never that it's ruled as such by the technician. I sent it in anyway to see what happens.
I really don't have any other options at the moment to getting it repaired as I could not find a single place that sells HOX+ parts. Some have reported HOX parts being cross compatible, but I'm not going to take the phone apart (and risk damaging it) on a "maybe".
In sum, I'm heartbroken and pissed.
And to rub salt into the wound, I'm having to use my wife's old iPhone 3GS in the meantime :crying:
always sad to hear about the death of a beloved phone :crying: Good luck and please keep us informed.
I'm more sorry to hear that u have to use a sorry a** iPhone for the time being

I'd cry if I had to use an iPhone. Sorry to hear about your phone. I think the one x and + both share the same dimensions so maybe a one x screen will work but the leds will be white not 100% about compatibility so maybe check with HTC
These phones are actually really easy to tear apart! Don't be scared
Best of luck getting your baby working

I would hope that a technician could tell the difference between a defect and impact damage. If it were dropped, there would be some kind of impact mark somwhere, especially considering how hard Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be to break. Fingers crossed for you.
Don't feel bad. I just sent mine back to HTC as well. All layers of the screen destroyed but surprisingly the phone still worked so I'm looking at a new digitizer and lcd. I miss her

Thanks guys. Still ticked to no end, and the iPhone 3GS certainly doesn't help. Should have never sold all my ex-Android phones (urgh).
Still no word from HTC. I'm basically torn between forking over $200+ for the repairs if they're not going to repair it under warranty and just selling it as is on eBay. I figure I can get $300, then use the money toward a Nexus 4. It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

They quoted me at 120 shipped to replace the lcd and digitizer. Your repairs should be much cheaper if all they are replacing is the digitizer.

Yeah, that's like taking your Mercedes in for service and having them give you a Yugo as a loaner.
Well that's definitely encouraging. I can certainly handle that I read elsewhere it was >$200, but I'll take $120 to get my baby back.

Tell me about it. Aside from the fact I want to bash it against the wall because I can't do half the things I'm used to (I miss Swype SORELY, among everything else), subconsciously I find myself concealing it cause I feel embarrassed for using it.

HTC/Futuretel in Canada quoted me $430 for screen + digitizer. I smashed it a few weeks ago, you can find my thread in the q&a section.
I found a company in Vancouver that will do it for $135 so we'll see how that repair goes.
Good luck to you too.
Sorry to hear about yours as well, hope you get it back all sorted. $400 is a lot just for a screen repair,

My status changed to "In Repair" today. Not sure if that means they're going ahead and repairing it under warranty or that they're looking at and will contact me soon with estimate. Wait and see I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It does not mean that. Mine said the same thing the first day and it was explained to me that it means they are taking it apart to diagnosis the extent of condition. My final cost was 200. They claimed they needed to replace the casing as well... I didn't argue it and paid up. You can dispute the charges though.

You're absolutely right. An hour later they sent me a quote with the same thing, $200 for the screen and casing. I called them up and asked as to why the casing needed replacing when only the screen was cracked. They escalated it and someone is going to contact me back. I don't have a problem paying to replace the screen (which I hoped to be around $120), but why should I pay an extra $80 for a casing that was in pristine condition.

I totally agree with you. My case was pristine as well. Hard to tell from the pics though but there was no damage done to it. I'm guessing the destroyed it taking the screen out.

Just got off the phone with HTC again. They said the 200 does not include the case. That is being thrown in because they probably damaged it when removing the internals. 200 only includes replacing the screen.

After reading your post I just said fuuuuuuuunk it and just went online and approved the repairs and paid for them. I have zero hope that any good is gonna come out of this and I don't want to wait another week (was told up to 10 days) for them to review my case only to come back and tell me they won't cover them. Thought about putting the $200 toward a Nexus 4 (or whatever I got from the selling the HOX+ as is), but I really love my HOX+, even if I miss the Nexus experience.

Am sorry to hear about your screen. Don't wanna go off topic but stick to the HOX+. I have the nexus 4 as well and it's a good phone and all but the camera and audio experience is awful. If you use your phone with a headset from time to time or take pics the Nexus 4 is ridiculous, I mean really bad.
Thanks for reassuring me I made the right decision then. Good to know about the camera and audio quality.

Got my phone back yesterday from HTC and was surprised to find out that they actually sent me a brand new one instead of repairing my original one. This actually makes me feel a whole lot better about dropping $200.
I'll give :good: for HTC for their quick turnaround and the nice packaging the phone came in.
All in all, I'm just glad to have my [new] HOX+ back.
