Does anyone know that the RAZR maxx has the f/2.4. Just seems hilarious that the selling point on other phones like the iPhone 4s is the aperture and it's never mentioned on the maxx. The iPhone 4 has the f/2.8.
I think the rezound I previously had was the f/2.2. I dunno, nitpicking I guess
regular RAZR have f2.4, too...
this means that better quality pics in dark enviroment would be possible, but unfortunatelly on my RAZR this is not case.
shutter speed is WAY to slow (1/15 - 1/17) and 99% of pics are blurry
so is there any way to control these parameters (shutter speed, ISO)? - because factory presets are really bad
PS. can anyone with ICS post some pics in low light enviroment, so that we can check EXIF data
thx!
My maxx has taken fantastic pics. And extremely fast. Once its focused if u can keep the box green its instant shutter on mine. If u haven't, turn flash off. It takes faster pics. I rarely need flash.
My wife has an epic touch gs2 and I am more impressed w the maxx camera every day. I usually compare everything to her phone lol.

hi guys. im just curious how the video and pictures on the evo3d look compared to other 5 or 8mp cameras. are they sharp ect. how would the evo3d compare to say the iphone 4?
im in the market for a good camera phone
I personally feel the evo3d only takes great pictures sometimes - meaning it is hard to get good pictures.
The pictures tend to look better on the phone than when you look at them on a computer, where they tend to look more grainy when not in the brightest light. This feels like a step down from HTC's other offerings, which can look as good if not better than iphone pictures when pulled to your computer. I have gotten some fantastic pictures, but for the most part the camera has left me a bit wanting.
Playing around with 3d pictures is quite fun, and video recording is very good - particularly the audio, which was lacking in the evo4g.

It takes a much better picture than the Evo4G did. Much sharper looking, even with 3mp less.
However in low light it still gets grainy...the sensor can't help that, but the software can...but it doesn't. It does, however, take fantastic macro shots for a cell phone...surprisingly.
The 5mp cam on the NS4G I had for a few weeks was phenomenal. When I came back to the E3D it really made taking pictures with it seem pointless...and that's not even taking into consideration the .5-1.5 second shutter lag from when you push the button.
For a freakin' cell phone? It's fantastic. I've never used an iphone4 camera but I've only heard good things. But after seeing what a Samsung 5.0mp sensor/lens/software combo can do I am completely down on the E3D's camera. Granted it does 3D and it is a rather compelling effect...though the problems with the 5.0mp single-cam shots get even more pronounced in 3D at 2.5mp.
YMMV, etc etc etc. It is a cellphone after all.
EDIT: Also any shots with motion are pretty much ruined before you take them.
I agree with nhutpham, post number 2. The camera is not nearly what it should be. This phone revolved around its camera's, I mean come on its not called "Shooter" for nothing. 3D pics turn out good, still shots do anyway. But standard pics, thats a whole other ball game. Low light produces bad pics, even with the flash. Some pics will get a greenish tint to them (whites) when using flash. Rather then use all the "auto" settings I find setting things manually will result in better 2D pics. The device was not purchased by me for the camera though. I bought for the dual core processors Though now that I have my dual core I am wishing HTC would have stepped it up on the 2D camera
i think at stock the pictures look ok. but when you adjust iso, sharpness, exposure, contrast in the settings it makes them look much more vibrant and sharp.
i took a compartive shot of small rocks and the evo3d looked crisper and better overall compared to the iphone 4. so the camera cant be all that bad
Maybe this might help. I'm actually surprised at some of the pictures on here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243765
Being a photographer myself, I am impressed with the camera... but not all of the time. It takes phenomenal pictures outside in a good sunny day and even in overcast. Take the camera inside in average lighting of just about anyone's living room when the sunlight isn't dominating the light, then I'd be reluctant to show it of.
The poorer the lighting, the harder it is to focus and the photos can get very grainy. HTC also chose to compress the photos quite a bit which affects the picture quality, but makes it easier on the phone and network to share and upload. This goes back to a previous comment that they look better on the phone than on a larger display - its the compression.
If you're willing to root and mod this phone, there is a camera mod in the CDMA dev forum for this phone with camera improvements which makes me that much more impressed with the camera. Although, I think all that was changed was the compression for photos and video.
If you are taking a still picture under good light they look really good. If you have kids and are planning to take any pictures of them forget it.
Let's just they are playing baseball and you want to take a picture of them at bat. They get up there and you click the shoot button. The picture is then shown to you for review and you say wait, who the heck is that. Well while you thought you were snapping a picture of your child, by the time the camera actually took the picture your child got a double, the kid after him grounded to third, and in your picture is the batter who was batting 2 guys after him.....Great picture of someone elses child and of course that kid moved so the picture is blurry as well.
Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a little. You would probably get the batter right after him and not 2 guys down in the lineup, but it would still be blurry unless he batted like a statue....
Green, but otherwise good
Ya unfortunately the shutter lag makes the phone worthless in taking non still images.

which one has the bigger impact on image quality?
are android phones just naturally built with ****ty camera's or is it in their software that runs them?
don't get me wrong, some are ok... but overall I've always found iPhone has an easier time with pictures, I guess this singles in on X2 as well, the moment lighting becomes slightly unfavorable it is a giant blob
Wait til u see how android cameras have progressed by the end of the year(hardware)
The htc rezound supposedly has an amazing one. Others will follow suit with that. Bet on it.
it supposed to have very high quality pictures...uses new low light/bright light sensors and adjusts accordingly. And im sure there will be a way to manually control, if u wanted to , those settings to get it just right.
I gave the RAZR camera a quick test at the vzw store today and was also impressed. They also look better.on the RAZR screen because of the super amoled display ...
So I would say the hardware is moving forward and software can catch up to it for some nice quality pics. But either way for the best photos nothing will beat an actual camera(for now lol)
if so.. how is the Razr's camera compared to the Inc? i happen to like the Inc's camera (except for the crappy low light shots), but from what i've been reading, the Razr's camera isn't that good. any opinions are appreciated. thanks!

Sometimes I wish I had kept the incredible because of all the developer support.

The locked bootloader is a real down side for the Razr. I like the phone but glad I have still have a few days to trade.

thanks guys. i managed to try out the Maxx after work and took a couple of shots with both my Inc and the Maxx... i didn't think that there was much of an increase in photo quality, if any at all. it was actually easier to take more focused shots with the Inc. i'm not sure if i missed it on the settings, but i also didn't see a touch to focus on the Maxx. that's one of the things i like about the Sense camera, as the touch to focus also adjusts the exposure when shots are taken that way. i really wanted to like the Maxx, as that battery life sounds amazing, but i might just wait to see what MWC has in store. i appreciate the inputs tho.

Camera is about the same indoors. The Razr camera is better, but not by a huge amount. It's especially better in the 2.3.6 leak. But, it's still a cell phone camera. Outside in good lighting it does very well. Video is definitely better on the Razr. Video outdoors in good sun is great.
The phone is so much better than the Dinc though. I can actually make calls in places I couldn't before. Plus the screen is much better. The size is definitely awkward the first day or two, but you soon get used to it.
I'm sitting here contemplating going to Verizon and picking up the Maxx. My Incredible is a lil' long in the tooth and the battery life on the Maxx sounds like it might be too good to pass up.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind having the G Nex screen, but I really like the looks of the Razr. I'm sure I'll miss Sense (I'm one of the few who cannot stand vanilla android), but I think it might be worth the trade off. My brother has the Razr and loves it. I think I'm asking for too much hoping that HTC will come out with a thin phone with decent battery life.

Sprint HTC EVO 3D vs Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx
My Opinion
After 8 months with my EVO 3D I have decided to switch to a different network. Verizon, despite the bump in cost was the one I chose because they do have one of the best networks (at least in my area) and Sprint has the worst network (at least for me). So, before turning in my Sprint account I stopped by a Verizon store and picked up the RAZR Maxx, based mostly on the battery life and praise from a friend who owns a Droid RAZR. So I have both phones. Lets do a side by side! If I can get a third device of some kinds for pictures I will add them as well. Pardon my clumsiness if this thread is horribly written, I am a coder not a documentarian.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love my EVO 3D and if I could take it with me I would. Sadly I can’t so I figure I have both phones in front of me let’s do a comparison review. This review will not include data transfer rates as Sprint only has 3G in my area and Verizon’s 4G LTE network blankets the area. I also will try to not use many specific specs for the comparison as anyone can go look up the size of the RAZR and the size of the 3D, I will focus more on the feel.
Size and Screen
EVO 3D
The general shape and size of the EVO 3D is awesome. It fits well in the palm of the hand and has a decent weight. The screen is a 4.3” qHD and looks gorgeous to me. It is bright and the colors pop but when you put it next to the Maxx they don’t pop as much and are a bit faded. The 3D feature is a neat novelty. I enjoy watching 3D movies on the phone and playing the 3D games is interesting, but buying all these things that are only 3D makes this mostly a novelty. The touchscreen is responsive.
RAZR Maxx
The RAZR is a much flatter device but makes up for this in length and width. It is a bit awkward to hold while talking, but not so much as to be uncomfortable. I tend to use Bluetooth headsets exclusively. It feels a tough lighter than the EVO 3D which is nice if you do tend to hold your phone. This one also has a 4.3” screen but it is Super AMOLED. It is a bit brighter than the qHD on the EVO 3D but overall is too close for my own naked eyes. The touchscreen is responsive.
Winner: Both
Camera
EVO 3D
The EVO 3D sports a pair of 5mp cameras on the back for 3D capture. It does this well, but warning if you are not used to looking at a 3D picture taken with this device then your eyes might go into shock. Once you are used to it then it is not so bad. The front camera is ok as are most. 2D pictures are crisp and the colors are decent. The shutter time is a bit slow for my tastes.
RAZR Maxx
The RAZR sports a single 8mp camera on the back. The quality of the pictures is very nice. Colors are brighter than the EVO 3D and it maintains the crispness of the photo. What really wowed me with the camera are both the night time picture taking and the shutter speed. At night with the flash pictures maintain crispness unlike every other phone camera I have used. The shutter speed is amazing as well. It is not quite as fast as the iPhone but it is dang close. Another nice bonus is Image Stabilization.
Winner: Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx
Internal Hardware and Ports
EVO 3D
The EVO has a Micro USB port for charging and video output with an adapter. Its Bluetooth works as expected with decent range to my Plantronics Voyager Pro. It is version 3 + HS providing 24 Mbit/s throughput. I haven’t tried that feature so I am not sure how accurate that spec is. The processor is a dual core 1.2 Ghz Snapdragon. It performs well and I will demonstrate stock ROM performance with benchmarks below. The battery is a bit lack luster on this phone. I feel I have to keep a charger on me at all times and keep it plugged up in the car all the time to keep charge.
RAZR Maxx
The RAZR also has a Micro USB, but includes a dedicated Micro HDMI port (yay) for use with video output and webtop features. I haven’t tried the webtop feature but it looks awesome and I am purchasing the HD dock soon to give it a spin. It sports Bluetooth 4.0 and functions as well as the EVO’s Bluetooth. The RAZR contains a TI OMAP 1.2 Ghz processor, benchmarks below. Battery… amazing. I have been abusing my phone for over 4 hours this morning and I am still sporting 80%. Imagine when it gets optimized with some crazy awesome ROM.
Winner: Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx
OS
EVO 3D
The EVO is running Android 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 3.0. For this I am going to talk about Sense a little. I love Sense, I find it to be awesome in every way except space on the phone. I may be a bit biased towards HTC (view my sig) but I like the stuff they put on and the Sprint stuff is excessive but not as bad as Verizon.
RAZR Maxx
The RAZR is running Android 2.3.6 with the Motorola interface (if it is still called Blur). There is a lot of bloatware on the phone from Motorola and Verizon. It is still snappy and responsive but having a dozen apps you do not need but cannot remove is annoying.
Winner: HTC EVO 3D
Benchmarks
I tried to get screen shots but Eclipse is being a pain and I am at work so I don’t have time to troubleshoot it. But here are the actual results. Note on Quadrant that I started the tests at the same time and the EVO was done by the time the RAZR made it through the first 5 CPU tests. As you can see the EVO slammed the RAZR on the CPU test in Quadrant.

Quadrant and Antutu are almost mirrors of themselves. Not sure which one is more accurate. All in all my opinion of the phones is similar. The both have ups and downs. Ones is mostly network related and some minor hardware deficiences and the other is software bloated. So hopefully this will help someone decide ( I have seen the questions more than once )

Welcome to mobile cameras, they all throw pixel count at you when what they really need are better sensors. I have NEVER had a phone camera take pictures that didn't have tons of noise and look like complete **** on a decent monitor. In my experience thus far, this camera is no different than others I've seen.

Have been playing with the camera all day today. Compared to iphone5 this shows lot of noise especially in low light. When cmpared to gs3, noise is marginally higher in low light photos. Under good light conditions, this seems to produce most faithful color reproduction.
Just my observation
Yea, I just compared gsiii and DNA cameras, I think gsiii is better most of the time, but not in color reproduction. But honestly, they are both awful.

I went downtown Detroit last night after Dinner, and even though I said that the S3 Camera is better, I'll retract my statement (different thread) after taking some low lights pics. The Low Light Pics on my S3 looked horrible.....but was pleasantly surprised by this camera. I attached a few pictures to show that the pics in low light actually look pretty damn good, especially since it was taken with a Phone, and I was a bit tipsy after drinking too much at Dinner (hands weren't exactly steady).

Damn... I was going to pick up that phone today but after seeing these pics I don't think I am. A good camera is very important to me, maybe I'll get the Lumia 920 instead...
Well, what do you expect from a phone's camera? Whatever the camera's hardware is, if 90% of its settings are controlled automatically, the result is most probably going to suck. In a darker scene, this phone's software may want to bump the ISO higher than another phone's software, hence this noise and lack of detail. But anyway, a different camera app and you knowing how to use it will most probably show better results.
For me, a cellphone's camera is not much more than a barcode scanner.
Exactly. Phone cameras will always suck compared to a quality Point&Shoot. Smaller sensor, few manual settings, and software made by phone manufacturers, not Canon/Nikon. It's fine for a decent landscape shot or portrait on a sunny day but some people just have ridiculous expectations.
People spend thousands of dollars on camera equipment that works well in low light or for fast action. Maybe the iPhone 5 is marginally better than this, but I've played with my family's new iPhones and IMO the camera is still just a phone camera. If I wanted to take a good picture I'd bring something else.
Some comparisons
Some people didn't like my review of the DNA saying that I was too harsh on the 1080p 440ppi display. How could it possibly be worse than the 720p S3 panel? Well, I think these will speak for themselves:
First a short video shot by an iPhone 4S...DNA vs S3 playing Underworld Awakening. It's a bit hard to show how much the S3 dominates because it's a video of video playback, but the most accurate part is when Selene and Michael are kissing. You can see the skin tone is MUCH better:
http://db.tt/Z597Hcuc
Then the friend with the iPhone 4S and I went out and took some shots. He's taller than me, so the angles are a bit off, but you get the idea. 4S is on the left, DNA on the right:

As you can clearly see, the DNA gets smoked when it comes to color and brightness. Either I have a bad panel or sensor or this camera/video playback is just simply inferior right out the box.

Don't forget-I was NOT really holding the camera steady (Tipsy), but my spouse had my S3 and the DNA's pics actually look better in those low-light shots than on the S3. I need to go to the Conservatory and take some daylight shots of all the tropical plants. THAT'S where I usually take my dSLR and even when I took the S3 there, the pics came out great, popping colors, etc.... Let's see how the DNA can handle those.
The difference is amazing!!!
