Gingerstreak hasn't been updated in quite some time. CM7 is a newer version of Android (2.3.7 vs 2.3.3) and is more stable in my experience. n0p has released a version of his Phoenix kernel for CM7 which improves performance, stability, and battery life. I can hands down recommend CM7 over Gingerstreak.
Don't leave out DSC though. It is the most frequently updated and possibly the most stable version of Gingerbread for our beloved device. However I have had no random reboots, screens of death, etc with CM7 or DSC.

Regarding CM7.2
I hv a question regarding the CM7.2...i hv just installed it frm the developement section n i love it...the only that is a lil irritating for me is the huge size of widgets n font n everything...just wanted to know if there was a way to reduce it...with the decreased font size i wony let this rom out of my streak
Also the light on home n back button keep blinking after a min or 2...wonder if there is a way t stop that...
It would be very helpful if there was a way out...
Thank You.

I run my lcd density at 240, so I don't have the problem you described. As far as the flashing lights, make sure you flash a amss and dsp1 from 407 using fastboot. The flashing lights are a symptom of a mismatched baseband.

Ok i did the baseband flashing and my baseband is GAUSB1A140514-EU
Nw when i try to put DSC_Phoenix_Mugen_Full.zip kernel using streakmod recovery, my fone hangs up on dell logo...i had to reinstall the cm7.2...could u help me out plz...

Yeah, flash the kernel in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579585
The one you flashed is for DSC, not CM7 or MIUI.

Ok the kernel is also set...nw im looking forward to reduce the font size. The adw launcher makes the overall font n size of the stuffs quite big compared to the stock...i would love if i could reduce the font...everything looks too big to me...

Did the ROM you flashed have HDPI in the name? If so that's your problem, is set for 240 LCD density. Try the other version, it's MDPI or 160 LCD density.

I have been on GingerStreak pretty much since day 1 that DJ_Steve released it. I followed his developmental process and stayed current every step of the way.
Just last week, I switched to CM7. (yes, I feel like a bit of a traitor)
However, Steve has been going through some things in trying to get ICS on the Streak so he had stopped devloping GingerStreak. CM7 was updated more recently. And from what I hear DSC is fairly good as well.
CM7 is so far a bit more stable than GingerStreak. After being on GingerStreak for so long, I would occassionally have random reboots. Most notably during app installs or updates, after the install/update, the phone would reset, somtimes go into a reset loop that required a battery pull. The other issue would be an unresponsive touchscreen. I would have to unlock the phone two or three times to get a responsive touchscreen back. And after phone calls, I would have to lock the screen then unlock, just to have a responsive touchscreen to be able to hang up the call.
So far with CM7, I do not have the issues. However, since it has barely been a week (6 days), I'm not ready to declare CM7 a complete success. I'd like to keep playing with it. The battery life seems good, and very comparable to GingerStreak. I can get a full day no problem.
CM7 has some nice tweaks built right into the core, and you can toggle several of the radios directly from the status bar (wifi, bluetooth, etc) which means one less app for me to install and one less widget running on the homescreen.
I'll probably be trying out DSC in the next couple of weeks to make a solid determination, but for now CM7 seems slightly better than GingerStreak. Nothing to take away from DJ_Steve, as the guy is a monster. He nearly single-handedly saved the Streak community. But, while he is working on ICS, GingerStreak had to be left behind.

Flash baseband and amss for 407 then flash 407 update.pkg to get you phone all synced again. I make sure to do a factory reset.... These steps have been covered more times than I care to recall the

[Q]How to update Firmware to 2.3 from 2.2?

Hello,
I have Vibrant firmware 2.2 T959UVKB5 Froyo Trigger Version 3.0.1 i need to upgrade to firmware 2.3, how can i do it? Sorry i'm newbie from android OS.
Thank for help
let me get this straight? ur on trigger 3.0.1 and u wanna know how to upgrade to 2.3.3 gingerbread? Well gingerbread hasnt been officially leaked for the vibrant yet. I mean u can download 2.3.3 roms that are ported from i900 gingerbread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13337270#post13337270
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021383
those are both 2.3.3 roms i hope that helps.
The gingerbread Roms are VERY buggy. And not worth upgrading until all the bugs are worked out. I would stick with Trigger Rom until then. I am also using the Trigger Rom and also the Overstock kernel. Just my 2 cents throught. Good luck!

Gingerbread roms are not "VERY buggy", not anymore anyway. With the exception of GPS almost everything is working like a charm. Surely battery might be an issue to some but even that have a fix or two now.
One thing though, these roms are anti-noobish, so make sure you read A LOT before flashing one. That's probably why many choose to stay away from them.

I agree, it's very fast, responsive, and I've never had much trouble with 2.3.3 ROMs. I use Simply Galaxy RC3.2, and except for bricking my phone the first time I tried installing (ODIN'd back to stock, flashed trigger, flashed SG RC3.2), it's been working really well.
I calibrated my battery after installing which helped clear battery issues, Quadrant scores in 2200s, fast internet.
There are a few more issues than just GPS..
3D performances are not what they should be (fixed from what it used to be, but still can be laggy)
Battery can drain pretty quick if you aren't careful about what you leave running.
Headset jack auto-detect (must toggle headset jack to be active over the loudspeaker using a widget). Apparently there is a fix for this but it has not yet been successfully implemented into any kernel that is publicly available and no developer has looked at the fix which was posted.
On topic though, make sure you read the instructions and understand them before you try flashing a 2.3.3 ROM. If you have any questions about specific instructions for a ROM post it into the ROM development forum. Also know how to and be comfortable with going into download mode and using ODIN to flash to stock from the Vibrant splash screen or from Bootloop (vibrant splash screen to an attempt to boot OS and then a reboot and repeat indefinitely).
If you are uncomfortable with any instructions for the ROM installation even after clarification or are uncomfortable with the potential for bricking and cannot use ODIN or don't want to risk anything DO NOT FLASH A 2.3.3 ROM!
Happy flashing, I hope this helped.

can someone help me install this gingerbread tw4 Rom!

http://edtdev.com/forum/topic/122-r...orking-audio-routing-and-custom-kernel532011/
Thats the rom. i've flashed back to stock 2.1 with the update. but im not sure what RFS is. I downloaded the one click UI for Vibrant with all kinds of options so i tried to flash the rom from there. It installed a cwm for me and i flashed the zip, went through but on reboot the cwm3's buttons are backwards and the rom wont start, keeps rebooting at the kernel screen and has wiped my internal sd. here are the instructions. thanks for any help.
~ To flash this rom you should be on RFS and then flash through recovery.
~ Once finished flashing, reboot
~ Now you should seriously just let it sit there for 15 minutes. I know, you want to play with it, but if you don't do this you will have problems. Period.
~ After 15 minutes, reboot. Don't even click through the startup screen, reboot right where it loaded.
~ After it reboots go through the startup and sign into google. Now let it sit there until google is completely done syncing.
~ Once sync is finished. Reboot AGAIN.
~ On next boot, now open your app drawer, open ext4 app and choose to convert to ext4
~ The key here is to be patient, let the conversion do its thing. It will reboot automatically when done.
~ Now when your phone boots back up you'll think you are good to go. WRONG! Give it ONE FINAL REBOOT.
rfs is the state your system files are at when Voodo (ext4) is disabled. So in other words, disable voodo before flashing this rom.
Now as to the way you should flash this, kudus to you for odining to stock. Now do it again, after so reboot to recovery. The update.zip file you had before should still be on your sd so once you enter stock recovery hit reinstall packages then the phone will reboot and either you'll face the 3e recovery or you'll have to hit reinstall again. Now once you're there wipe data then flash the rom's zip as usual.
i think i messed with the recovery before i flashed it cause i thought thered be a special kernel for it but i guess it flashes it with the rom. cool thanks man. btw which rom do you like the best so far? are you on gingerbread and whats your battery life like?

Im on MIUI now, that's GB. Battery life is good, obviously not as good as 2.2 or 2.2.1 though. But IMO it's damn worth it.
Try the two roms Dan ported on EDT they're both equally great and snappy. Especially Juwe.

Camera and video are fixed on the miui kernel. Its just that for some reason the rom refuses to play any other vid except the stock samsung one. So flashing the rainbow kernel won't fix that, hell it won't work in the first place since this needs its own cm7 like kernel.

Uhm, not to ruin your whole flashing process, but alot of people have had problems with TW4 on Asgard, some haven't if you follow the official thread's instructions, but even after following it, i did, and i'm using Launcher Pro now.

hey xrider did you get the camera and video working on asgard? which kernel did you use and what method did you use to flash it? i tried the 1.2 rainbow(not sure what the rainbow effect is yet) and it just changed the video and camera from black to this snowey kind of screen
edit: strange i was messing with the battery and recalibrated it, tried to reboot into recovery to wipe battery stats with both the power button from the os, and then 3 button and neither worked, but on reboot camera and video work... hmph. since i solved that maybe you guys can tell me how to wipe battery stats from the OS, ive heard it can help improve battery life

[ROM] Streakin' 354v1.1 **Update 9/16**

I am constantly playing with and 'tweakin' my Streak and have put together what I think is a good, lite, fast, and stable rom. I made this for my own use and decided to share it with the rest of you.
I started with 354 then removed all apps that could be downloaded from the market. I also removed alot of stuff that I didn't think was necessary (such as all the verification*.apk's, don't even know what they are). There are only 17 apps in the drawer on a fresh install! I added DJ Steve's kernel and some memory tweaks from using the HTC Kitchen. VTL Launcher ADW is the included launcher as well as Swype for the keyboard. There are also some customization provided by UOT Kitchen as well as a modified Settings.apk that I got from somewhere on here. I'd love to thank whoever made it, but I have lost track so if it's your's---thank you!
I'm getting Quadrant scores in the 1400's and battery life seems pretty decent. I gave up on Quadrant scores. My best guess would be low 800's for this version. I have found through trial and error that higher Quadrant scores mean less stability, and honestly I can't tell the difference in real world performance between an 800 QS and a 1400 QS. I can't tell you exact battery life because I haven't hardly put this thing down since I installed this.
I am not an expert by no means and have only gotten these results from tinkering and trial and error. I think this is good, but am open to suggestions for improving it.
I started off by installing stock 354 using stock recovery, then installed this using Streakmod recovery and did a Factory Reset (Dell's, not Streakmod's). I have had no issues so far.
I have seen this posted before and liked it so I'm going to use it here: If you find a bug, you get to keep it. If this breaks your Streak, you get to keep the pieces. Obviously installing a custom rom breaks your warranty, and I am not responsible for whatever happens if you install mine.
Thanks to everyone whose ideas I stole/used/borrowed/whatever. Without the true experts on this board, I wouldn't have had anything to tinker with.
What works: Everything I can think of
What doesn't work: Waiting for you to tell me. The time in the status bar is black and the status bar is blackish...makes it hard to see. I don't know why and haven't yet figured out how to fix this. If someone has a link to a good tutorial and I can make it work, I'll be happy to resolve it!
So without further ado, I present Streakin' 354v1 354 v1.1:
http://www.multiupload.com/1MVM3O34AN v1.1 *newest*
http://www.multiupload.com/BHI4Y4XD69 I'm leaving this link for those that prefer v1.
I do intend on maintaining this rom and tweakin' it more based on recommendation, more stuff that I learn, etc. I do have a full time job, so even though I want to answer questions immediately, it's not always practical. If it takes me a while to respond, I apologize in advance.
Edit 09/24/11 - If you prefer landscape mode, simply flash the attached file below in recovery. Be sure to wipe cache and dalvik-flash after flashing. After doing this it took 5-6 minutes for my phone to boot, but it did....eventually. You may want to backup first! I also added a portrait mode file in case you decide you don't like landscape after all. Enjoy.
Edit 09/25/11 - It was pointed out to me that this ROM does not have a init.d folder. I forgot to add it, although the support to run scripts in init.d is there. Until the next version comes out, using Root Explorer, or similar, create a folder named init.d in /system/etc/ and set the permissions to rwx,r_x,r_x. That should be all you need. Thanks.

I didn't like VTL Launcher either, until I went into the settings and turned the left and right dockbars off. Now it's not much different than ADW and rightfully so, since it's based off of it.

Try "orientation control" by "coin soft" to lock your streak in whatever orientation you want. I've got it on my streakdroid and it works fine
Just an observation here. You might want to contemplate recreating this ROM using 360 as a base instead of 354 due to the more complete language support in the former compared to the latter.

I had contemplated using that rom as my base, but noticed everyone had better battery life with 354. 360 was listed as being an "update" 351, which gave me horrible battery life. If someone can tell me different as far as battery, I don't think it would be difficult to redo this based on one of the others (360 or maybe 364?)
Grateful your work!

OK, I removed DJ Steve's kernel and replaced some files that were changed to accomodate it. My quadrant scores are now in the 800's and I'll report back with the 'feel' of the device and stability over the next day or so. I love seeing high scores, however must admit I've never really noticed a difference in day to day use with the higher scores. I will take stability over high benchmark scores, but will take noticeable speed increase over a little stability if that makes sense.
Quadrant is too overrated as a benchmark. Stick to a reliable & stable build

[Q] What ROM should I try first? Please Help!

I have everything set up, fixed the install file so it doesnt overwrite my custom recovery, got streakmod recovery on, did a nandroid backup
basically im all set, ready to go
but i am not sure what ROM to download... I would like a fast one, with features, but i would also like simplicity, like one that i just have to flash and be done, not go back and flash stuff its missing or needs through fastboot or whatever (because my computer doesnt work well right now with fastboot... well it works fine, but when i try to use CMD it always has an error, thus i cant put in commands by hand!)
so ya, all the roms ive looked at all had little things like
"YOU must flash these AMSS & DSP to go with it..
If you don't know how to flash AMSS & dsp then DO NOT TRY THIS " (from streakdroid 2.3 thread)
i dont want to deal with that crap, i installed CM7 on my defy, was simple, only thing i had to add was Gapps, which was installed in the same manner as the flash, so that was ok
any help appreciated! if i dont get a reply soon ill probably just take a chance (not that it ever seems to work out for me lmfao)
You should try Longhorn 1.1, or 1.2 later this weekend. If you already are on Froyo there is no need to flash the 2 files unless you want to. Each ROM is different and it all depends on what you will use it for. Good thing is, most ROMS you can flash them over other roms.

I considered longhorn but I went with simple, I like it, seems 20 times snappier and faster than streak on stock 2.2 so that's already a big deal, but I would like more features, would streakdroid be a pain in the ass? Does it have features like CM7 like the stuff found in cyanogen mod settings (in settings)???

Honestly, if you're gonna keep your Streak, then you might as well get your computer set up to correctly run fastboot commands and adb because sooner or later you will need and do the required reading... I know it seems overwhelming at the moment, but once you get it right the first time, you'll be banging your head against the wall wondering why you didn't get it the first time.
Plus you'll be able to change up ROMs like changing your socks if you like once you get the hang of it, IF you want to, it'll be just that easy

So far there isn't any streak ROMs that have all of the features that cyanogen have, loosely with the exception of DJ Steve's Froyo ROMs. Those are the only ones that Can be customized as far as I know. But even those do not have many extra features. Hopefully soon we should have more options for our ROMs.

CM7 up to par on Facinate?

I am currently running CM7 nightlies on my Incredible and it is running flawlessly. With that said, my brothers wife has had a terrible time with her stock Facinate on Verizon. I would like to install CM7 on her phone since I have had such a good experience with it on my Incredible.
How is CM7 on the Facinate? Any issues/limitations? Any certain build or kernel suggestions?
Thanks!
I ran CM7 for about 2 weeks. It's stable, which is a good thing. I like the themes option.. but for me.. it just wasn't fast enough.. don't get me wrong, it's quick and responsive, and it does not lag... my speed concerns is after bootup or reboot... it seems to take forever for everything to load and run right. Also, I found the Market (which is only available via seperate flash) lost it's connection more than once, and I had to reboot several times to get it to work.
This is the main reason I dumped CM7 for the Fascinate. I need my stuff to work.. plain and simple.
I went back to stock froyo ED05 2.2.2, then updated through VZN update to Gingerbread 2.3.5. Then Rooted the phone using superuser.zip below. I ODIN'd CWM Recovery, and flashed SU to root (see attachments) and then flashed the KGB Kernel located here. (The lastest is 12.12, but I don't like it as much as the 11.27 version.. maybe it's the smiley face boot screen that got me)
I couldn't ask for a better setup. Running ADW Launcher EX... smooth as a babies bottom and everything works as it should.
I hope this help you mate.
If she doesn't know what CM7 is I wouldn't install it for her. Last I checked, there are still some issues. Phantom ring is one where you get a loud ringtone in the earpiece after you answer a call every now and then. When I was running it, I had to toggle airplane mode sometimes to get back 3G data. It's mostly very functional but there are little things like that.
For a non power user just go with the EH03 debloated ROM or maybe superclean.
CM7 with glitch kernel v13 runs pretty much flawless for me. Imo its the fastet setup you can put on the fascinate right now(when its setup correctly)...pool party is another good one. I have tried every current rom/kernel and I keep coming back to this setup. I do prefer go launcher ex over the adw, w/ ICS theme. Up until 2 months ago TW was all I ran because mtd roms still had some bugs. Now that MTD is fully functional it was a no brainer to make the switch!

He could also Odin the EH03 based Geewiz (which is a debloat of stock EH03 with nothing added) or flash Superclean 3 which is a debloat + a bit more. Either way he will get a rooted setup nearly identical to yours with a lot less steps and no super slow OTA download. =)
As for your reports on CM7...that is a bit strange. CM7 is almost universally considered faster and more responsive than the Touchwiz releases. Personally, I preferred Sbrisens Pool Party when I used a mtd ROM which can be found over at rootzwiki. And while I'm on the subject of rootz, Awesome Sauce is another excellent Touchwiz based ROM if you would prefer to stay on something gcloser to Samsung's releases.
Thanks for all the suggestions!

I actually took your advice on this one as well. I'm now running CM7.1 Stable with Glitchv13 kernel. It seems to run a lot more stable with the glitch kernel... so far so good.
I also bounce between Go Launcher, adw, LLP, and the Espier (iphone)... lol Thanks agian.
Has the phantom ring been fixed? I actually switched to MIUI and glitch v13 last week and haven't seen it.

Not from my experience. I am running the latest nightly and still get phantom ring every now and again. Its a small price to pay for the features added from this great ROM!
I got the phantom ring running CM7.2 RC0, Glitch13.
Have to have Glitch for the in-call volume bug.

+1 mine works awesome Except for the occasional phantom ring

The phantom ring is getting so bad that I'm going to have to ditch CM7. I can't have my phone stuck phantom ringing when on silent during business meetings.
This is ridiculous, someone please help.
As much as I love all the features, it's pretty annoying when a phantom ring goes off in class
Are you guys using the stock kernel or glitch? I honestly don't know if there are any changes in the glitch kernel that would effect phantom rings, but I only had one phantom ring in my time on CM7 (using glitch).
I'm coming from every version of glitch including test. They never went away. Trying CM7.2 RC kernel as my last chance.
if CM7 isnt snappy enough for you i would definitely recommend OMGB, I used that for awhile and it was great.
I'm on TSM Resurrection, with KGB. Amazing battery life compared to stock and CM7. Zero issues so far except BLN that gets stuck on.
I have no idea why CM7 is so pitiful on the Fassy.

cm7 was far from pitiful...cm9 poops on touchwiz.
Yeah but stuff doesn't work like in cm7 the latest gapps don't offer Google voice or voice to text from the keyboard. I believe I had the same issues with cm9... along with lags and freezes. I'd go to cm7 in a heartbeat if I can get the voice text work in SMS. Just imho

I am raising the BS flag on this post! I had TTS working flawless on makelegs cm7.2 skang and have it working flawless on glitched aokp 35.1...matter of fact its worked since the early THS builds.
