I'm trying to pull some bits out of a ROM, but my pc won't open the zip file. I guess it's encrypted to only be read by fastboot or something. Is there any way I can access it? I can't just stick it in root and install it since it's not for my phone.
Anyone?
Have you tried extracting it with 7-zip?

First thing I tried, I know how to open zip files. This file however refuses to open.

I have a basic question about the CWM recovery mod using fastboot. I just loaded the updated .img file with no problems. All works great! My question is do I have to delete the first .img file? Can we just keep loading updated. Img files using fastboot without ever deleting the old files? Won't it take up more space?

Everytime you flash a new img file to the phone, it overwrites the "img file" on the phone. So no, you don't need to delete the older one. Hope that explains it.
Have an HTC Thunderbolt that I am trying to get up and running but I am unable to pick up any signal. No 3g, 4g or anything. I have tried to flash different radios (via bootloader) but the phone doesn't recognize the file( with the correct name). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I am rooted. At the moment I am running ThunderStick GENII v2.2.0. The file name I am trying to flash is PG05IMG.zip. Originally it was (MR2)PG05IMG. Trying to flash it via the bootloader by placing it on my sd card.
Are you sure it didn't get named .zip.zip? If you d/l it from a windows computer that is set to not show file extensions and then rename PG05IMG.zip it ends up as .zip.zip. Also be sure you didn't get a space in there before the .

If it was literally named (MR2)PG05IMG without the word zip after it, then you have file extensions hidden, which means you ended up actually renaming it to PG05IMG.zip.zip, because the first .zip was already there. If you dont know how to unhide file extensions, then just rename it to PG05IMG without .zip and see if bootloader takes it.
This is why I don't explain flashing radios involving ADB, downloads to a computer, or renaming things anywhere except on the device using a file manager of some sort in my q AND a thread. These files aren't huge. They EASILY download inside half a minute, then you move them, rename them, and flash away. No confusion with file names.
Hi I can't do it in my phone

Do you mean you are trying to password crack a secure zip file or something? be more clear as to what you are trying to do.
Ok so i did search to see if i could figure this out on my own but failed miserably so maybe i cold get some help here?
i download a rom to my download folder boot into recovery go to flash said rom but it is not there. reboot system search with file explorer and the rom zip is there. Any reason why its a no show?
If you ever used a 4.2 Rom it makes a "0" folder. So if you see that folder put the roms in that folder and then your recovery should see it

This is my first time trying to root my Micromax Canvas HD.
I am trying to install CWM recovery using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167621
However I am stuck in the second step itself. I have extracted the "Kernel Source" SouceCode(IQ451_4.1).zip file. But I am not able to find any recovery.img file to replace. What is the problem here? Have I downloaded the wrong file? Should I download something else?
While trying to extract the zip file, Winrar asked me if I want to rename the duplicate files, because there were a few files with the same name but different size. I asked Winrar to rename the files. Is this a problem?
I am completely new to this field, so I am not exactly sure what I am doing wrong.
Any help regarding this problem would be of great help to me. Please tell me of the things that need to be taken care of before rooting my phone.
Thanks a lot.

Use mobile uncle tools instead of the above method.. Download recovery... Rename it to recovery.img... Place it in sd card... Not in any folder.. Just inside sd card.. Open mobile uncle tools... Update recovery.. It automatically detects the file in sd card... Select... Flash...reboot.. Done...
Hit thanks if this helped..

Is there no other solution? Will I be able to use the files that I have already downloaded?
I have tried loading the recovery.img file through the Flash tool, but it asks me to select the path for the PRELOADER..
How do I find the preloader file?
You can use the downloaded file... Why do you want to use the flash tools method when the thing can be done in 2 clicks..

U need to root chd to install custom recovery. To do so download framaroot app from framaroot.net . Then to install custom recovery just use Rashr (search it in google play)
