Hi,
Have just bought the Xperia S and is still under warranty, so don't want to tamper by unlocking the bootloader yet, not for a couple of months at least. Anyways I'm quite happy with the stock ROM, bloatware and all!!
However, the only thing I'm unhappy about, is the LCD density. I'm used to a value of 160 (on my old warhorse HTC HD2 with TyphooN_CM7_v3.7.0-MAGLDR - Android 2.3.7). Now, I know it's a silly question, but is there ANY way I can alter the LCD Density without rooting it??
Thanks,
JK

Not even with root is it working I think
NO
If you want bigger text you could try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.bfont
Some of my friends use it with great success.
Not with out root, but i messed about with that setting myself and changing it messes things up.
Things like the text/images on some menus dont fit right anymore or are off the bottom of the screen.
Its best to leave it as it is really

What value are you trying it at? Try 220 or 160 (I'm not sure of this value on the XS - TREAD CAREFULLY). My HTC had some problems, including unavailability of Google Play downloads, but a value of 160 did the trick.

Thanks, but I wanted some more screen real estate!
Default Density in buid.prop is 320 if i change it to 300 things are to small to fill the screen and if i go up to 330 things are to big to fit on the screen.

ICS should offer the ability to change font size, which is probably preferable to changing the screen density - with the problems with how other things fit (or don't fit) the screen.
Does anyone use the BBC News widget/app? For some reason on all Xperia models, I only get one line of text on headlines. On other models, you get two. It's clearly a fault of the app, but suggests an issue with the font Sony (Ericsson) uses. Again, I hope that ICS might fix this with the Roboto font.

Yes, I do too, incidentally. I had not noticed this until I read your post.

I think I'll leave things as they are and wait for ICS. Could you please post some screenshots showing how it looks when you change the density? Just curious.
Thanks,

A person in Howard Forums had this to say:
Apps from the market looked out of alignment, because of the increased screen resolution. So now this phone, every app seems to need an update, specific to this screen, to look right. Who knows if all apps even WILL get updated.

Is there any truth to this? If so, how are you Atrix owners dealing with it? Thanks.

I've had some issues with this, but not too many. ESPN Scorecenter is the highest offender. Most other ones have built in scaling now.
Widgetsoid buttons look a little pixelated, but almost everything else simply looks sharper.
Use launcher pro resize thing I have been able to get alot of my widgets centered
Thx folks! I've made up my mind to try out an Atrix. Cheers.
I've had a couple widgets which just don't look very good on this phone due to the extra pixels, but nothing that has bothered me. These higher screen resolutions will become the norm, so eventually any of the decent apps out there will get updated.
words with friends has this issue.
Its mainly apps who poorly code them to run at standard resolutions and standard LCD density.
offender apps
Heytell is an app that does this on our phones.
Application Protection seems to only use half of the screen where on my other phones it would take up the entire screen when asking for passcode.
This is an old thread and and old issue. To those who don't know, this problem is likely caused by an incompatibility issue with older android versions. To fix this, download Spare Parts from the market. In Spare Parts, uncheck "Compatibility Mode." Reboot your phone and enjoy properly sized apps.
Slightly deceiving title? Hm, maybe.
But I just wanted to share some findings where people actually care.
You know the somewhat distorted look you get on the CRT effect when you lock the screen?
It doesn't appear if you:
• reboot phone and wait at PIN-Lock. If you lock the device then, you will get that perfect effect.
Same happens if you switch to Flight Mode, reboot phone.
You will have that perfect animation every time the screen turns off until you disable Flight Mode. After that you get the crappy animation.
So the question; why?
obviously it's connected to the SIM service. But how? And what's necessary to do to fix it?
I'm no dev, but I'm confident that there's some clever people here able to clear it out.
Another thing to consider is, that someone found out that if you change LCD Density you get a clean effect, even if it is from 240 to 240. But only until you go to the Power Menu.

These are the on screen buttons for stock ics. They are same size as originals. If anyone wants any different sizes just ask.
Thank you very much. This mod is not good for stock home.apk but if you use another launcher eg. Samsung Touchviz S3(port) or Nova it will fit well.
Yeah thanks a lot!

Ok, now I ask you.
Can you please make a different size for us.
The normal one is perfect for 3rd party launcher but the buttons cover little bit the "hang up" button after call. So please make it little bit smaller (less tall) if you can, please
sorry for late reply. was busy. Ill make it right now.
original size is around 45dip if I remember correct. this one is 35 so let me know how it is. I cant test it as I don't want to keep changing it. If you want it smaller or larger then ill do it by request.
It would be nice if it likes three icon on the hard key. Sory for my english
One more thing. Can you do a transparent status bar?
if you want different icons then you must edit systemui.apk not framework-res.apk.
Ive tried it
will try go to 22 then. Since 14 is too small according to some users.
heres 22dip.
Sory soldiers! When i use first file from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664625
It pull up the dock. Not over likes yours. Here is screen
no problem. I just need to know the right size. I myself use 14 but people complained it was too small.
Thanks a lot!!!
Is it possible that you make even with the extra more 2 buttons?
I saw it on an HD2 ICS rom once!
Thanks soldier and frame-work on your built it suilt for lockscreen cycle wave or slide?? I hope you will make a version for Framework-res wave cycle
This is my framework wave cycle: here Thanks in advance!
Im new into LG, but I used to run this on my Note 4 all day, with no difference at all, it will bring a positive impact on battery life as the display will push nearly half of pixels, and to be honest, we wont notice the difference on daily basis, now the $1 million question...
Does anyone knows a successful way to change the screen resolution from QHD to FHD on the LG V10???
As always any help will be much appreciate :fingers-crossed:

NOMone Resolution Changer worked on my LGG3. Tried to get to work on this phone but keeps acting up. Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Thank you, yeah i knew about this app, but nothing, it doesnt work, my guess is, it has to do something with the "second screen" which we already know is only one
adb shell wm size 1920x1080 doesn't work either, don't try it
Hopefully we'll get a fix soon!

2 years later, did someone find a working method
Hi there!
I'm one of thoose guys that now have a green tint.
While speaking with some guys in a telegram group for Huawei Mate 20(pro), some got their replacement and start to check the new phone out.
With "Device Info HW" you'll find out if you have the phone with the LG screen or not. (LG phones are the ones that seem to have the #gluegate issue)
Now.. One person comes back telling us that she got her new phone.. It's LG.. and then she notices that the DPI is different aswell so she asks us.
I checked mine, at the highest resolution.. 544..
She's got 640. How, why and whatwho.....(Nevermind the last )
Im at 544, another guy has 640 aswell..
Still.. She got her new phone.. They told her its not LG.. It was.. Now, shes at home with the new phone.. good DPI.. And a new phone with new green tint..
(sorry about the language and all, if its bad.. as i'm a swede, its not my native language)
I got my replacement today, it's still faintly green at the bottom, but liveable with compared to the green I had before
I also have 640, didn't check on the older one
Yup my replacement device is also 640 dpi.
