Prime repaired and returned - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Just received my Prime. Asus repair had it for a month. Fired it up and all seems well so far.
Only thing I see cosmetically is the upper right corner is missing a bit of gasket. This is where the opened it up.
Camera now appears to be working. It doesn't look like there was a wipe and clean of the OS. All my previous apps were there. Some did update and install when I fired it up.

I sent mine in for a cracked screen and it also took a month. Oddly enough they decided to send me a new one as a replacement. Not sure why it took a month to decide to replace instead of repair but no complaints here.

Uh, it probably takes a month to get to yours. It takes only minutes/hours to repair OR replace.
heh

Wow.. I must be tired...
I swear I read this as "Prime repaired and neutered"...

They chipped my gasket too when doing the wifi/BT fix. I was pissed and sent it back. They swapped the whole display assembly, and I ended up with ever so slight slight bleed....oh and for my trouble they tossed in two nice scratches free of charge!
I might have been better off living with the chipped gasket....seems everytime to you send it to TX its a bit of a dice roll with how they treat the goods. I'll probably end up skinning the back in due time, so I'm not going to press my luck and demand a new back plate.
Good luck with yours.

My Prime had the unfortunate 'missing serial number' issue. RMA'd it, and got it back with scratches on the back panel. Pretty frustrating. My inquiry in regards to getting it fixed have gone unanswered so far.
I've never actually had to return anything to a manufacturer before, but I can't imagine returning items in worse shape than received is usually typical?

I got my TP back today after the charging port broke ... it took 13 business days , which isn't too bad... I love the fact tht they not only repaired the charging port, but performed a complete re-imaged of my device with the latest software

So now we have a "yay asus support and RMA" and a "**** asus support and RMA" thread right on top of the list^^
cool

been meaning to get my Prime in for my RMA but I am going on a road trip (from Houston to Miami) soon so I don't have time as I will be using the tablet on the road.
I'll be sending mine in for camera repair (though I had the RMA for a while but just didn't have time to let it go and return to my laptop for day to day activities). Now that the big project is over, I can go ahead and send it in afterwards.
Reading this, I wonder what I will get back when I send mine in.

Hmmm.. I didn't realise that other people were having camera failures.
Mine's in for repair because the camera just died.

Top layer of the screen cracked, poor build quality?

From day one when I got my Folio the right bottom of the screen is a bit coming out of the black "frame" (1-2mm). But lately its getting worser and tonight when I hold the Folio on that spot like usual, the top plastic layer suddenly cracked.
The screen itself is unharmed and as for the touch part, all still work fine.
This should be covered by the warranty I hope. Looks like a poor build quality. Only got the device for like 2-3 weeks. *sigh*
Should I flash it back to the stock rom? Since its running Dexter's Mod 1.3C now.
They only need to replace the plastic layer and maybe the touch part, idk.

Some pics of the crack, the board doesn't allow me to post links because my post count.
Well i would say hold it more carefully, the screen is glass and cracks like glass (if you want it to).

I am from Belguim too, and i have the same thing!
It didn't (yet) cracked here but still...
I thought it was because I always hold it with my left hand, normally warranty should fix the problem for you. (as long as the screen isn't cracked!!)
Did a factory reset and flashed it back to the stock rom. Don't want anyone getting hand on my "personal" data like logins/emails etc when you know how confidential ppl work at repair centers.
The screen itself is untouched, touch works fine even in the cracked area's. It is really that plastic/glass layer on top. I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow.
Killerbie, watch out around that area and don't put too much pressure on it when you hold it there. I was holding it with my right thumb (and palm of course) and then it suddenly happened. The layer doesn't fit very well in the black frame around it.
I just came back from the store and they refuse to take it under warranty. Even though everything works, touch part (even in the cracked area's), screen is untouched (no liquid leaking or spots), etc.
I'm going to call Toshiba Support directly and see what they say. Since I'm not the only one with that 1-2mm popping out at the right corner. It is just a matter of time the glass cracks on other's Folio.
I've also added more pics and a video showing the touch part is still working fine. But I don't dare to push on the cracked area to prevent further damaging.

Despite being very carefully with my hardware, I noticed the screen is beginning to come loose. It's not as bad as I've seen on your pictures but worrying nevertheless. It's only 1 month old.
Looks like the folio 100 don't like being handled with just one hand.
Did you contact Toshiba, and what did they say?
Well after a couple of phone calls to Toshiba they agreed to pick it up and gave me an RMA. After a couple days I got an Email with some information and RMA number written in bad Dutch.
Saying that I have to print and sign this document stating that I agree to be charged in case the repair-center deem that the broken glass top is not covered by the warranty.
Due to that phrase and the fact if I sign, I'm screwed either way, because the device has to be fixed anyway. Also in the email they mentioned that I have to sent it to Czech Republic. Means that would cost me 44 euro to UPS it (sending faulty devices by regular post packs is a big no no).

So I mailed them back that on the phone the lady spoke of a pick up etc... No reply for one week. So I decided it to give it another try at the store.
This time it was a different person at the counter, I did my story, said that I contacted Toshiba and they agreed to repair it etc. And now its at their repair center for a week now.
And right after 2 weeks I sent that mail to Toshiba about that pickup, they finally replied back, saying, indeed a pick up will be done by UPS or TNT... and that they will contact me for the pick up.
So from calling to Toshiba, to get the device picked up... will take 2 weeks! *unacceptable*
So right now I'm ignoring Toshiba and hoping that the store is really going to repair it under warranty. Since its not a crystal breach. Just the top layer(glass/plastic, etc).
Glad I'm not the only one with this problem, mine is just the result of the problem.
Hm, sounds promising...not.
As said mine is not as bad as yours and my screen isn't cracked (yet).
I'm gonna send a mail to the shop I bought it from (Dynabyte NL), at this point it's acceptable but I don't want to wait till the problem gets bigger.
Thanks for your respond and I hope it works out for you.

Mine is also bulging, and it has never been handled with just one hand... Actually, it has never been handled, because I just bought it yesterday, and I have not even unsealed the plastic bag; touching it you can clearly feel the bulge, so I believe it is not that the screen comes unstuck after use, but that there is something pressing it outwards, that causes it to bulge first, and to crack later on. Of course, mine is going out tomorrow; I will exchange it for a non-pregnant folio, if available, because there are several people reporting the same problem, and in any case, will take out insurance on it; that way any potential trouble will be covered, either by the guarantee or by the insurance.
Glad that there are other people having this problem too. That was my first impression to, that something under the glass/screen is pushing it 1-2mm out. And after a while it sticking more out due to usage of the tablet.
Right after I got my tablet accepted at the store for repair, I went inside and checked the demo device if it had the problem too. And indeed, there it was also sticking out. I'm really disappointed in Toshiba
My screen is coming out a little bit too. At the Bottom, middle or slight right of the middle.
Funny thing is that my touchscreen sometimes just stops responding and then I have to slightly press that plastic frame part on the bottom and instantly after pushing it the touchscreen works again. So the tablet basically wants me to push it on that bulge.
Screen gapping away 2mm at the bottom
The same with my folio. Yesterday I RMAed it for repair.
The screen at the bottom is about 2mm gapped away so that it could be easily teared off by an accident. I didn't noticed it at first because I use original lether toshiba case.
Definitely it was the real cause of all my problems with responsiveness. Folio was often unresponsiveness at the bottom edge. After I pressed the gapped away plastic surface back down into its correct position then responsiveness was OK for some time until the gap reappeared again.
I think that everybody should check his/her folio. Maybe it could be a wide spread problem.
p.s. And all the time I was thinkink that it was a SW problem :-(
I asked in this Thread if maybe someone knows how to repair this as this is an Hardware issue. Maybe it's just a wrong screw that pushes the touchscreen out of the frame.
Took my folio to the shop today, it's going back to Toshiba for repair.
Got the option to trade mine in for a demo-model, but unfortunately it had the same problem. It's probably gonna take some weeks before I hear what's gonna happen. Repair, replace or nothing, we'll see.
I don't think it has to do with screws, while this problem is always on the bottom side it's not always on the exact same place.
Looks like some sort of tension, mine was ok when I bought it, one month later it's loose from the bottom-middle all the way to the right side.
Mine has been sitting at the repair center for more than a week... no new updates at all... sigh.

From day one the glass is sticking out a little bit at the right bottom of the device. The customer didn't return it while he has noticed that. By pressing on that spot, the glass cracked during a normal use. The customer has already contacted Toshiba and they "agree" to repair the device under warranty.

It is some kind of tension/pressure squeezing the screen together, like it doesn't really fit the frame.
So like Tobr said, everyone should check it out and report it to this thread so in case the store or Toshiba is charging you for the repairs, you can at least print or point them to this thread, saying that is a general problem.
According to the shop it could easily take one month before it's back, so I'll just wait and hope for the best.
Checking your device is indeed a good idea, an if you can live with the problem maybe get a written statement that your not responsible when the screen decides to crack.

I was able to introduce a thin peace of plastic between the frame and the screen and its much better now.
This way the plastic cover wont break and it responds way better.
I doubt that toshiba fixes this by replacing anything. If they used their brain they could solve this before it brakes
Well it must be a miss calculation of the sizes or places where the components are placed. So if they replace/fix the screen, the chances are big the bulging is still there.
But according the the European warranty law, if some thing is repaired for the 3rd time within the warranty period, they have to give you a brand new device or your money back. Still 23months to go (the warranty) here. Its gonna be a long journey
Finally after almost 2 weeks, some updates at the status page of the repair center

Lets hope it is 0.00EUR. Because on the phone with Toshiba themselves last time, they said replacing the screen will cost me 130.00EUR.

Would you return the TP if you were me?

Oye. First post at XDA. I bought the TP at Canada Computers on December 23rd. They give two weeks for return, so I have until Friday to return or exchange this thing. If you were me, would you return this tablet? Here are my issues:
- gps will briefly lock outdoors, but loses the lock quickly after subtle movements
- hdmi output has issues with my Sony Bravia TV - only plays through left channel (using dice player and games like riptide)
- one white (dead) pixel near bottom right corner
- very slight white bleed on bottom right with black screen
What do you think? Maybe others are grappling with the same question.
Cheers,
lukin

the 1 single dead pixel did it for me
helllll yes
Yes, return it. The GPS issue is here to stay though. (Design flaw)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Pixel did it for me. I am on the fence about the hdmi. I think that will happen with all of them until a fix is issued. But i would return it for the pixel.
If it is white it isn't dead though is it? I think it may be stuck. Have you tried massaging it or tapping it? I know it sounds weird but have you tried? Like with your finger or pencil eraser with a micro fiber cloth or some other material between so as not to scratch the screen. There are a few tricks if you Google it.
yeah I think the HDMI thing will just need firmware updates to fix, so hopefully will get sorted out. the pixel though is over the line, get a replacement.
Just preordered it...Hoping they come in this week. Been kicking the TF101/no TF201 around? and the Iconia A500. My wife pre ordered the prime while i was out so....I'm waiting in cyberline. Can't wait. Any other issues you guys finding?
If anything relate to screen, i would return or exchange right away, hard to ignore if you look at it every day....
Simple answer: Exchange it.
Why? If you're unhappy now, imagine how you'll feel once your small time window closes and you are still unhappy!!
Good god man, do it while y'ee have the chance!!
Yep, I'd return it for the pixel.
Single stuck pixel huh? I have one stuck red and thought that best buy would not take it back. If its a reasonable expectation that no pixels be dead or stuck then perhaps I will exchange it (if best buy lets me).
Thanks for the feedback. I am going try the screen massage, maybe break out the sexy time oils. If no luck, it goes back and I join the replacement line. It is is our first tablet and I wanted to get the best product. The bugs are testing my patience a bit. I bet it come with the territory when buying a brand new product.
Thanks.

So you say BB Woudn't take it back within their 14-days return policy?
I am not sure, I am going to send mine back to Amazon for a refund once more become in stock. Then I will re order it, hopefully with not stuck pixel. I am trying different pixel fixers/unsticking tools from the app market. Hopefully they will do the trick, as there is little wrong with it now. I did the battery drain thing to fix the messed up touch screen (never was bricked, just had poor sensitivity in random spots).

Same here. I had a monitor I kept with a dead pixel and I regretted not returning it for 3 years. Thing bugged me to death, but at the time I didn't want to go 3 weeks without a monitor to return it. I say at least try to exchange it as you should never have to put up with a dead pixel.
The HDMI and GPS probably will continue. The GPS issue is known and the HDMI is probably a handshaking issue with the DRM. A lot of devices can have these issues whether its your TV's problem or the Prime would not be known. DRM should never be included in cabling which is why I hate HDMI.

I guess I was mostly thinking that getting one stuck pixel is normal and getting no stuck pixels was an unrealistic expectation.
Looks like I was wrong, so I will exchange and hopefully get one without a stuck pixel.

I have 2 stuck pixels that I only see on a black background when looking real hard for it. I have never seen them any other way, so I dont plan on sending it back to newegg. If I had bought it locally and could get another to try before I had to return it, then I might feel different. The fact they are still difficult to get, and how hard it is for me to see it, I will keep it.
Here's an update on my headache about whether or not to return my TP. This will also discuss the GPS issue, so others might be interested.
I spoke to customer service today about the issue discussed above. This is their response to each:
1) GPS. They told me to download the firmware update and that would fix the issue. After updating there had been some improvement, but not enough. Basically the blue arrow in google maps bounced around my current location around 30 meters from where I am. For example, up the street, one street over, down the street, and even 10 kms away on the other end of the city. It never stayed fixed on my actual address.
At that point the supervisor suggested that it be sent to ASUS for repairs. This is where we got into a over the top semantic conversation. First of all, they wouldn't acknowledge that there has been problems with GPS for others or that they had posted any public response to the issues. Weird. They wouldn't acknowledge the aluminum case issue.
I told them I have two days left to return to the store and I want a guarantee that it will come back to me with GPS fixed. They said that any product that goes to the service centre will come back fixed. However, they don't know that the fix will be "up to the customers standard" for GPS. I said, okay, what is a reasonable standard for GPS functionality? That it can lock onto a couple satellites and not bounce around the screen like a pinball. He agreed this would be what he wanted from a GPS, but would not say that for certain this would be the end result of the recalibration. Then he began to talk about "environmental factors" that could impact the signal. I said, we've got blue sky and sun today, will it work on a day like today? He wouldn't guarantee that either.
2) HDMI output issue. He said it would be reported to quality control and that it may be fixed with a future update. No guarantee either.
3) Stuck white pixel. This issue seems to have gone away (awesome), but he said it would be fixed if sent for repairs.
I called Canada Computers to ask for some kind of an extension to their 14 day return policy, to have time to see what the repair does for GPS. They shot that down pretty quick. If I keep it past 14 days, there can be no return. They said I could return it and wait for another one, but there is no current stock or promise of when the next shipment arrives.
Two more questions for the forum to chew on:
1) Has anyone reported a fully functional GPS on this device. That they can drive in their car and the satellite remains locked? I have only seen videos that show it doesn't work - like the bloke who kept on calling it rubbish. If there are working GPS out there, then I'm more likely to roll the dice with the repair.
2) Will the Sony TV issue get fixed? I have read people that say it's a software issue and correctable; whereas others talked about DRM and that a fix isn't possible. I didn't actually understand the DRM piece entirely.
3) What quad core android tablets do we expect over the next couple months that will challenge the TP for top dog status? Maybe I can return and wait.
Thanks for reading.

Got my Tablet back from RMA

All I can say is HORRIBLE!
The RMA itself took almost 10 business days. Luckily, they shipped my replacement to me by Fedex two-day.
The only problem with my new C2O is that the back light doesn't turn on! I can see the word ASUS come up when I turn it on and the table gets REALLY hot on the bottom right corner while it is on.
Luckily I am on the phone right now with ASUS and I just learned that they are going to pay for the tablet to be shipped back to them and I will get priority RMA processing.
Edit: I just hung up on after being put on hold while I was talking with the operator.
Count yourself lucky. It took them 29 days to get mine back, and they didn't my charger. The solution? Send it in again.
Screw that. I'll buy a new one.
I got hung up on while I was on hold. Here are some pictures.

in a way that's funny they hung up but not really though. keep trying them back. sounds like major b.s. on their part. how can they send you a unit with no back light? that's plain unacceptable right there....

Obviously all of the light is trapped in the bottom right hand side, give it a good whack on the edge of the table, that should shake it loose

Help please! Very frustrated with RMA

So I sent my tablet in on 4/8th and it was received by asus on the 12th according to the Fedex tracking, but shows the 13th. Thats fine a day to register it...
I waited 14 business days, called to have it escalated, they told me someone was going to call me in 24-48 hours. Ok i patiently waited, 48 hours passed no contact via email nor phone.
I called again, this time I spoke to a supervisor he assured me that an email was sent to the tech center, and I would have to wait 24-48 hours for them to contact me. OK I waited patiently again since a supervisor assured me...
Now today, 48 hours have passed, I contacted them again, they said theres nothing they can do but wait 48 hours and if no one contacts me then call back...
it seems like i'm giving the runaround waiting 2 days then 2 days then 2 days...
I tried to contact Gary Key via PM and Email but he hasnt contacted me back over 2 weeks, same with Hai Trat...
Any suggestions? I'm thinking to file a BBB complaint and go to small claims court...
Yeah, Asus support has pretty much guaranteed they are now on my no buy list...
Tried to register my Asus (open box) and it was already registered. They keep telling me they will delete the info so I can register it and get the dongle, but every time I try it says serial number already registered.
It's like at least a week between each reply too, and in poor English. Not impressed. Good luck on your RMA!
More and more horror stories. Not surprised.
It's really a sh*t show over at Asus.
People should only RMA their tablet if there are major problems with the tablet. Not just things like dead pixels, random restarts or weak wi-fi. Not worth the risk.

It's really a sh*t show over at Asus.
People should only RMA their tablet if there are major problems with the tablet. Not just things like dead pixels, random restarts or weak wi-fi. Not worth the risk.

Well, mine was a major thing, the camera didn't work, had a green screen... I can live with crappy wifi and no gps..but come on now...dead camera -_-
well after Hai Trat replied back to me on my email, it was shipped back out to me the next day. just got a shipment notification from fedex.. lets hope my tablet is in one piece
Hopefully yours won't come back with the backplate scratched up. Still waiting to hear from Asus on that.

i had a invisible shield on the backplate...so unless they remove it, i should be ok I HOPE
honestly it's not ASUS service so to speak that is bad, its is their contracted repair centers. Problem is since they contract out they don't have any idea as to the inner workings of the repair centers. So when we call all they can do is send them emails and hope they respond. I do agree this is still not acceptable and they need to really rethink how they contract/who they contract out.

Agreed, but since it was their choice of contracted repair centers, I believe the blame is on them... A huge company like Asus ...contracting 3rd rate repair centers? Really shows how much they care about their customers TBH. There's no way in hell I would purchase another Asus product in the future, even if they were the only company to have a keyboard dock. It is not worth the hassle, in the case of something going wrong with the product and waiting a whole month to get it back. IMHO.

One month at this stage.. Two months total.. I used the tablet for two weeks, don't even remember how it looks like anymore.. Consumer advisors etc. have contacted asus and nothing happens. They refuse to repair it in/out of warranty, they refuse return my money.. Or in fact, they do not directly refuse, they just promise to "look into it"

It's now almost 3 month for me. One one my primes had a broken glass, I paid for it, but so far I only get different answers, from is ready to be shipped to no spare parts or it goes out tomorrow. I contacted now my lawyer.
Definitely the last time I bought something with an Asus Label on it.
Mine went into the Europe centre (Slapanice, CzR)on 26th April with screen mura - says it's ready for shipping today, exactly 14 days. If it is back within the week that won't have been too bad; though it has been a very frustrating due to the lack of information bout the whole process that's available from the RMA progress site and the fact that the support email team have no access to what's going on in the repair centre, but moreover because of my own tendency to check on the status 5 times a day. Of course it's still not in my hands yet...

It's got a tracking number as of this morning - so my hopes are still partially alive...
Well just a quick update, I got my tablet back today, and holy **** I am so lucky I had a invisible shield for my backplate, because there is A WHOLE ****LOAD of scuff marks on the back......and the metal part near the charging port was bent but I fixed it by pushing it back... and it seems like I have more light bleed than before. There was only a little bit of light bleed on the top right corner when i sent it in, now theres light bleed on the bottom right and bottom side......grr. oh well, lesson learned. never buy anything Asus no more.

Lol, they may have left a rubber stopper between the screen and battery again
Ridiculous, I almost want to contact the BBB on the repair centers doing the work, not ASUS
I just got mine back from rma, looks like all is well, but will have to see whether i get ota after the next update.

Lol, I hope not... yeah I was so mad I wanted to contact BBB or the small claims court.... a whole month doing a repair?...and their turn around time was STATED 10-14 BUSINESS DAYS...
Well on a side note, they didnt touch the os at all though, I still had root lol...

Touchscreen stopped working

Got my truesmart last week. 2nd day in the touchscreen stopped working. Shortly after the screen went all white and wouldn't work at all. Later that day the screen started working again but no touch screen.
Left it alone for a couple days. Started working again. Everything appears to be fine. Only thing I can think of is i accidentally wore it in the shower (I am used to wearing my casio watches in the shower) but it barely got wet as I took it off as soon as I realized. Though this shouldn't matter as the watch is supposed to be water proof/resistant.
I have emailed the service omate email address and have yet to receive any response.
OK. About the "waterproof" thing. IP67 is a static immersion test. This means it is gently put in a 1m deep tank that is already filled with room temp water. The water pressure at 1m is 1.4psi. This is about 1/20th the water pressure in most homes. Even running it under a tap exceeds 1.4psi.
Yep. Selling it as waterproof is very misleading IMO.

It is and Sammy does it, so does Sony, Moto, pretty much the entire industry. Not saying it's right but at least Omate says they will warranty their stuff, nobody else does.
I love that logic

Meanwhile i am still waiting for any reponse. Also had waterdamage only a few days after i got mine. Its super if omate give you warranty on this but it sucks to wait for many weeks to even get a response beside we will get back to you in the upcoming days...
Would be oke if they did but still waiting.
Good luck

I'm not saying it's right but I've read countless posts by people giving Omate hell of the use of the term "waterproof" all the while doing it from or owning a device from a manufacturer that doesn't even have a liquid damage warranty.
Then there's the use of the term "waterproof". It's used only once in an image on the KS page yet water resistant is used something like twelve times.
I'm not saying there isn't some QC issues but when put into perspective Sammy would have told users "sucks to be you, go buy another one". That's what they did to me.
Omate got back to me.
They think its the battery not sitting correctly and have instructed me to open the back and put some tape or something on the inside to help the battery sit better.
They also said once they have repair centers set up in my country (Canada) that they will honor any warranty service.
I got a reply for Omate!
Only to bad its not what I hoped. Since I bought my Omate 2nd hand from a seller online they cant give me warranty. They also said they were clear about the avoid warranty with waterdamage.
Now its waiting time for me till they have a repaircenter.
Well, I too seem to have this issue... My screen is mostly white, but you can sort of see. Attached is picture of it. Also, my top right button doesn't work anymore. Could I have gotten water in it, maybe.. But I have not removed anything but the SIM card cover. I will be contacting OMATE, but have low hopes for resolution.
