I recently purchased a new HTC Evo View 4G from an internet retailer. Everything works pretty well, including CDMA 3G Internet from Ukrainian provider Intertelecom, except that I cannot update firmware to Honeycomb.
When I try an option from menu "Firmware Update", I receive the following message "The firmware update could not be completed. Please try again later. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Customer Service. Error code: 1233.
I suppose, that my device was rooted, but I don't know, how to check it and whether there are other ways to update firmware.
Can somebody help my?
if you want to use the gps at all, don't update.
Same thing happened to me. I looked in the "Settings" and found out my Flyer had been rooted and a custom rom installed. The vendor apparently didn't know. I requested and received a new Flyer. Installed fine on the new Flyer.
Most likely my firmware is original. There are plenty of HTC apps, which successfully update, also sprint apps and so on. I can update just everything on this tablet, but firmware.
Apps and such don't matter, it could just be a custom/stock ROM. Do you have Superuser in your App Drawer? What does your Settings->About page say?
Haha . If you want honeycomb you don't click firmware update you click HTC software update !
I get the same message on completely stock. I think firmware update has a tie in with sprint services. I use it as wifi only.

I agree, all my apps were stock, but "settings" told the story. I was rooted and a custom rom was installed. This was a Bestbuy Flyer, so someone returned it and
vendor sold as new.

I'm assuming you're on Sprint.
I think the issue you're describing is a known bug and was patched with an OTA while on the 1.13 software update. The patch should be included in the 2.08 software.
Which custom ROM are you using and which stock software version is it based off of? Or which stock software version are you using?
hope that helps point in the right direction!

Thanks for the important information as it helps eliminate other possible solutions and narrow down the issue.
I'm also on 2.08, android 2.3.4. But I did perform the previous OTA software update which patched this issue with apk files into /data/app.
When I go into Settings->Personalize->Lock Screen->Settings and tap on any of the 4 icons, under the list that appears, I can scroll down and select "Phone".
Have you checked to see if there are any software updates available for your device? Settings->System Updates->HTC software updates->Check now.
I could be wrong, and hopefully somebody will post to correct me, but I'm pretty sure this was the issue fixed by an OTA software update. It does surprise me it wasn't included in the 2.08 system software so I could be wrong, but perhaps they're still distributing it as an OTA.
A simple google search for the phrase, evo 3d phone icon lockscreen shows a lot of posts and threads with this same issue.
Hope that helps!
Okay so. I rebooted and there is a shortcut to the app. Weird right?

Some of the posts linked to in the google search link I provided above gave that same solution ... not sure the logic behind the process.
Glad you were able to get it resolved!
Thank you. Haha, 2nd day with my EVO and I'm already excited!
I received my HTC EVO View 4G and one of the main reason for me way a honeycomb, so first thing I do is go to Firmware Update section to find out following:

wtf?!
is there a file (firmware) I can download and somehow go through that process manually? i don't want to sign up with Sprint for sure, I bought it to use as Wi-Fi only, whenever I'm outside I can tether through my Verizon 4G LTE
Go to HTC software update instead of firmware update for OTA HC. Read the warning in the dev forum first if you want root, though.

as the title says... htc amaze on wind mobile in canada, the updater in the menu's is offering me this this afternoon its about a 20.3 meg download i think.
Anyone else seeing this?
anyone get it and see any differences?
Nobody tried it?
wasn't gonna try it till i get home from work.
so far one person on howardforums.com in the windmobile section has loaded it, he thinks some icons changed colours to notify of sms but isnt sure.
Just got the 1.43.531.3 few days ago... hope this one you are talking about is better
Maybe it just fixes the roaming issue some Wind users are reporting, where everything was considered "not roaming"?
Anyone live near the border of Wind's coverage that would like to check?
anyone know how the update method with HTC works?
if i download it via that updater can i not install it right away and grab the file onto my desktop?
or do i have to do something sneaky like set-up wireshark on my desktop and connect the phone wirelessly to desktop and sniff the packets to get the url of the download to get it separately to see what's in it before installing it..

I have an unlocked bootaloder via htcdev, but don't plan to root or load any custom roms at the moment or probably even in the future. Plan to leave it as stock as possible.
Just received this update.
If someone's interested get it from my dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23990187/OT...5.1500.2_R_release_22985265i2s9qleef43w9b.zip

so just digging through here, there appears to be some sound recorder updates, a battery logger (smith.apk) some other qualcom logger of some sort ( QXDM2SD.apk )
updates to phone.odex, htcsoundrecord.odex, htclaputa.apk htcmessageuploader, protips, stk.apk, tag.apk...
and the main part of it is a zip file for firmware.zip, not sure if those have changes to them or if they are the same as the last ones, someone with more brains on this would be able to tell.

Does that mean Wind is implementing a WiFi Calling feature ?

No. The feature is for T-mobile. There's no news of Wind wanting to implement it at all yet.
Hi, I also just saw this notice today of the update. I have unlocked my bootloader and I have rooted. No custom ROM on yet.
Can anyone confirm if this situation is OK or will the update remove my unlocked bootloader and UN root my phone?
Don't suppose this would change phone from S=on to S=off?
Many thanks

If you applied the update you will lose root and it will not effect your s-on/s-off state or lock/unlock your bootloader.
You will need stock recovery to flash the OTA.

Is your Galaxy S 2 on a Custom ROM or such?
If so this is your issue, most phones cannot update if on Custom ROM.

hey, did just that when I still had the leaked samsung firmware on, but now I want to ENABLE software update again - any clues?! thanks!

Bugs
@wesg79, I noticed you are running on the Bell network. So may I ask, are you running the I-9100M? I'm just curious, because I am and updated my device using the Swedish version of ICS (build:LPQ) and there do seem to be a few bugs. Just wondering if you have experienced them for yourself? I seem to be dropping down to 3G every once in a while and have never had less than HSPA+ with the stock rom. My "Beautiful Widgets" clock widget also seems to not correctly display the time every once in a while, but perhaps they haven't updated for use on ICS yet.
I was having issues with the "processing failed" for the software update, but thanks to this thread it has been resolved.
I'm also curious if someone else can answer the following for me -- once the official Bell version is released for the I-9100M, is it possible to "update" to it using Odin, or would that not only wipe everything on my device. I believe I would also need to re-root my phone, right?
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks in advance.

Edit:As long as you are using a stock rom.

To be honest it depends on how he unlocked it. It may buy you would have to be complete factory with an unmodified state to get the official updates. Take my carrier for example. They flash a custom rom on it without fixing the modified state so OTA or Keis updates dont work.
why ask in General, and not the help section?

When i try to update via settings i am told "unable to update modified hardware" and kies tells me the device cant by updated. When i get back to oz i was going to flash the telstra stock rom but scared it will carrier lock which is not a biggie because i am with telstra. I would like have phone stock and upgradable . My s2 was always flashed with westgrips ics but i am done with continually updating to keep getting the latest.
It depends exactly how he unlocked it, but I have never seen it saying it can't update modified hardware, normally if you are rooted it would say "unable to upgrade as the system has been modified" (or something very similar) also if you are rooted and have CWM but on a stock rom you should be able to update via Kies.
I would think something dodgy is going on, I would go back to the dealer and show them the OTA update message you got and see what they say

Yes, the error message was similar to the one you said, this has been going on for 3 days, the first one supplied had been rooted and coud not be updated and as soon as I saw CMW I ook it back and asked for one hat had not been tampered with. They exchanged with another new unit which could be updated but when I finally started using it the radio was locked. I then took it back and said it was fixed only to find that they unlocked it using CMW but NO Busy Box (unless they uninstalled it).
Now I have a phone that is the same as the first one but has been updated to 4.1.2, at the same time I bought an S3 for my wife which updated to 4.1.2 and was unlocked from the same dealer. Unfortunately we go into the country in the morning for 2 weeks and cant return to the dealer till I get back to Bangkok.
That is why I asked if I can restore the phone to stock and still be unlocked and unrooted as I dont want ato go down the path of my old S2 and get into a ROM cooking frenzy. I am happy with stock and want to get update as if released look forward to 5.x.x

Well if your looking forward to 5.0 then you will end up flashing a custom rom anyway as this device may see a 4.2 official but doubt it will see an official 5.0
