Hi! I want to know how can i change the phone info, in the system settings.
I want to change them for my own rom, so i want to include, for example, a different build date, build number, kernel version, etc..
Help!?
You have to edit build.prop located in /system. You can edit it on the phone itself with a root file explorer or copy it to a computer, edit in a text editor and copy it back to the phone (don't forget to set permissions to the way they were before copying). Once you open build.prop you'll easily find the lines you want to change.

I recently flashed a new rom on my x10i but now i cant use the flash tool as the model number has changed from x10i to S0-01C, there was no zip for changing the build.prop on the post where i got this rom! I searched the forum for solutions but couldn't find any!
i know we can change this by editing the build but don't know how!
i am a semi-noob
thanks in advance!

That is the model number for the x10 on a carrier called Docomo. If you want to modify the build.prop you will need a root explorer app such as es file explorer or root explorer (I assume that your phone is rooted...). Go to /system/build.prop and copy it to your SD card (always back up something BEFORE you modify it). Then open the original in a text editor. Change the lines that start with
ro.semc.product.model and
ro.product.model from S0-01C to Xperia X10
Then restart your phone.

Or you can use the new flashtool, connect your phone with USB debbugging on, pick Advanced - File Editor and fill the boxes:
path: system/ File: build.prop hit enter, change whatever you need to (as a matter of fact deveron3 just told you what you need to change), and finally click on save, disconnect and reboot, easy indeed!

Hi :victory:
After seeing this mod on the news portal I wanted to change the carrier name myself, but unfortunately that was only for Verizon phones. So I looked through /system and found preloaded_config.xml which contained information on all carriers and I managed to change the carrier name (with some help from this app) And here's an easy guide how you can do it yourself!
1. First you want to download preloaded_config.xml and spn-conf.xml.
2. Open the files with a program like Notepad++.
3. Search for your carrier inside preloaded_config.xml. I had to search for "Tele2 NO" (remember capital letters). You will find something like this:
<preloaded-data mnc="07" mcc="240" operator-name="S COMVIQ" service-provider="Tele2 NO" service-provider-id="262">
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
4. The value mnc="07" and mcc="240" makes the number 24007 (put the first value behind the second). These values will differ for every carrier.
5. In spn-conf.xml, replace "XXXXX" with your new number. (For me it's 24007)
6. In spn-conf.xml you must also change what your new carrier name will be. (Replace "skifyr123").
7. Save spn-conf.xml and move it to /system/etc/. Reboot for changes!
And that's it. If it doesn't change be sure you found the correct carrier for your country!
An easier way is to use the app "Carrier Name": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901865 But it is reported that it doesn't work on all phones/ROMs. Working on Xperia S.
Nice!

Tried it trough using the app, worked, rebooted, still Vodafone instead of my own name...
Looked trough Root Explorer, found in system/etc file spn-conf.xml, my name was there, and value was 20404 (the right numbers)
Am i missing something? Should i change it in preloaded_config.xml and and save it?

Same here, although I noticed my carrier displays as 3uk for a few seconds before changing to 3.
No matter what I try it will not change.
Sent from my XperiaS via transwarp conduit.
works very good for me.. just be sure not to add symbols and caracters in the name such as :"
AND IF U USE ROOT EXPLORER BE SURE TO DELETE THE BACKUP FILE : spn-conf.xml.bak THE APPLICATION AND MOST OF SUCH APPLICATION CREATE BEFORE RESTART..
thanks
Perfectly working with VIVO Xperia S 4.0.4 MooDeD ICS 90.5
Your method and also the recommended apps in my Xperia Mini Pro doesn't work too=(
Does not work on my Razr xt910 226.3 ICS EU.retail
works on SGS2 4.1.2 stock rom
For what it's worth, this method works on my Samsung Galaxy S2, with stock JB.
I've added the following line to change my carrier's name to my custom text:
<spnOverride numeric="12345" spn_display_rule="SPN_RULE_SHOW_SPN" spn="mytext"/>
You'll need to replace the 12345 above with your carrier's MCC+MNC. Use the Network Info II app from the market to get that info.
Make sure to fix permissions and owner on the file after you copy it back to /system/etc.
Not working for Android 9.0 Pie Samsung
I want to make Asphalt 8: Airborne think I have an s4, so I can unlock higher graphic settings, is it safe? How do I do it?
I'm running CyanogenMod with Android 4.2.2
My friend did that (Galaxy Y) to update one of his game and it is safe. Just create a backup file of your original build.prop first before editing.

As long as you have away of backing up and restoring the original build.prop then it is safe. The easiest way is with a nandroid back up or you can make a flashable zip with the original build.prop. If these are things that you have never ever heard of...then maybe you shouldn't mess with the build.prop.
OK, you will need to root your device. You can modify the build.prop using ROM Toolbox Lite from the playstore. That is probably the easiest way to do it or if you have a rooted file explorer you can also navigate to the build.prop and then open it in a text editor on your android device and modify it there (you will have to change the permissions to RW and when you are done change them back to RO). If you copy it to your PC make sure you use a compatible text editor, if you use Word, you will be sad After pushing the edited version back to your device's system folder, make sure to change the permissions because they will be all messed up. Reboot your device so the new changes get implemented.
OK guys I know this should be easier than I am making it.
So far I have tried several apps, none of which will correctly edit the build prop file and either simply refuse to do it or result in a bootloop.
ES File Explorer;
-Mount /system as RW
-Select build prop
-Edit with ES Text editor
Anything I try to add (ie. Pressing enter does nothing/does not insert a blank line)
If I try to edit a line from true to false or vice versa I get a bootloop. Also I cannot append anything to the lines. I can only erase what is there and only add back the exact same number of characters that I remove from said line.
Solid Explorer;
Same thing as ES
920text editor;
Will allow me to place empty lines and append things longer than what is already there (like changing a value from 60 to 600 for example. Not that I would just ES would not let me add the extra 0 at all. With ES I could only delete the 60 and put some other two digit decimal in its place.)
However same deal bootloop if I change anything.
All I did was add a blank line and a comment line with #
Texdroider DPI was able to modify my DPI however, from 640 to 540.
Back when I had my GS3 on AOSP I could edit the build prop on the fly with ES File Explorer. I could add blank lines and add comments all over to remind myself later or whatnot.
What's the deal?
I am running skydragon 2.0 with the SD kernel.

Try RootExplorer. I've no issues changing dpi's with it.

I have tried several well known root explorers and I have been using ES for years. One of them should have worked.
I think something bigger is going on here...

The G3 build.prop is just too large a file for most editors, so if you edit and save in one of them the build.prop file is truncated and the Phone will boot-loop.

So what your saying is my best bet is to make the changes in notepad++ from my computer than just copy the file back.

Absolutely. Notepad++ is what I've used Do the edit on your PC, save a backup of the file just-in-case. Make sure when you put the new file in you set permissions to 644.
i installed build prop editor and i saw the option change pixel density
i changed it to 360 and i rebooted the phone and when it rebooted i get force closes and i cant do anything on my phone now...
Any help???Any fix without loosing my apps? cuz i dont want to loose my apps... i have some important things in there...
@gabiabrudan7: you only may reduce dpi, lower 320! So try to restore the old build.prop: if there's a bak-file, you can rename it in TWRP's file manager - otherwise use ADB (if there's access from PC) to move build.prop to PC, change it with an editor, which stores in UNIX-format and move back.
