[Q] Unable to run any Custom ROM properly! - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hey guys,
I'm new here (and new to all this stuff too), so please, bear with me.
Okay, What I have:
1) Rooted Gingerbread 2.3.6
2) CWM Recovery installed.
I tried flashing (via CWM Recovery) Miracle V4 and GalaxyICS. They "worked".
By "worked" I mean, I can get to the setup wizard, set it up, play with my new ROM.. but the problem is.. they work ONLY when I have REMOVED my SIM card from my mobile. With the SIM card inside, my phone "crashes" (force restarts, again-n-again) after reaching the lock-screen!
So, I could use my mobile only after removing my SIM card.
I had to flash my stock ROM again using ODIN to be able to use my mobile.
So, can anyone please help me solve my issue? I probably am missing something here.
Thanks.

Yes to go to stock just go to samfirmware.com and download the right firmware and flash....
But if u wan't custom firmware to work just flash a new baseband (can be done in cmw or odin) ddkq8 works best and works almoust every where
Hope I help

edit: ^oh, the baseband might been the problem
I havent heard such thing before, and this might not help but have you ever installed cusom ROMs with the SIM card in the phone?
Sidenote: you shouldnt need to remove the SIM card when installing new ROMs

My friend had the exact same problem... He is from India sim card of dolphin I.e BSNL
He couldn't find a solution he even upgraded through Odin but no luck
In the end he changed his sim card to a different provider. And now is on cm7

Have you flashed a new modem onto the phone? Was it the right one for your particular version of SGS2?
yes... my phone is working expect sim card ... i think i used particular ones ,
this is the history
ive bought 2 sgs2 one for myself one for my gf, and idk what the hell she did and her phone lost baseband , i used same failes like i did on my phone, my phone works and her not . i donwloded only baseband and i tried to port it via odin and still the same problem ??
Might be a bad flash, try reflashing it.
Preferably, root the phone, install a kernel with the ClockWorkMod recovery in it, and flash a modem via the recovery.
also i forgot to mention , when i type *#06# to se imei , the dialog show nothing , no number at all

You have messed up your EFS files, if you didn't back them up them you will have to send it to samsung for repair.

[SOLVED]Most Basebands wont give DATA

I cant seem to get anyone to help me with this many roms for example that are on KI4 simply won't give me DATA. I have tried many different roms like for example
Villain Rom works just fone
other rom with different baseband just wont give me data at all...
Is there any fix for this? The H+ icon is just not showing and i cant acces the net (i checked in access points to make sure my APN is OK , everything is just fine over there.
Thanks guys!
EDIT: Problem Solved! All the roms besides AOSP,Villain were having incorrect APN's for AT&T. I had to manually configure and it worked! however i went back to STOCK rom with no root , that is fine for now as the performance is great on stock rom , until ICS oficcaly comes out.

I have the International SGS2. Now funny thing is i tried 3 roms and only AOSP rom would let me use data , but samsung roms won't that just makes no sence
Start with a stock rom and the correct modem and CSC for your country .
That fails its service centre .
jje
But now another question how come I flashed the AOSP rom which was using same BASEBAND as the samsung custom roms from here KI4
AOSP - KI4 works
Sammy Custom - KI4 does not.
can anyone link me with a STOCk rom for the international version? i was not sure which one to chose because it had different letter codes i belevie my version is UK i bought it on Newegg and its the international version. Thanks guys!
before u go crazy flashing roms/kernel over and over again please try this with the roms that doesnt work:
after u've flashed the roms check that data is not working but everything else is fine.. then install root explorer or use adb to copy "/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/nwk_info.db" to somewhere else for backup
and then delete the nwk_info.db and reboot
hope this fixes it

Everything else does work besides data. So you would suggest i use the root explorer from my current rom? which is AOSP and copy telephony databases? but would it work with sammy roms?
no no no u first flash the roms that doesnt have the working data network and delete the nwk_info.db ( only nwk_info.db ) and reboot. the phone will generate a new one.. i have had same problem as u when flashing some of the custom/official roms and when i do this it fixes it, also have u tried if wifi works?
ps sry for slow reply i was talking with my gf

your method did not work :/ is there any other solution?
I pretty much want to say its samsung problem.
I used to use sgs and when I was using stock rom data was really bad.
Then I used cm7, the data became real deal.
I think it may be same for sgs2.

Yes APN are correct. I went back to Villain 2.3.5 and H+ works however the rom feels slow.. this is the only rom that works besides AOSP roms
Would this work if.
I flashed new rom from Villain to any other custom sammy rom? without "WIPING". What do you guys think?
Here is what you can do before you get banned for posting in dev section .
Download correct stock rom modem and csc for your network .
download ODIN .
Reboot to recovery
Mounts and storage FORMAT sd card cache data system .
Phone is now empty .
Remove battery then go to download mode after putting battery back
Via ODIN flash stock rom .
Go to network you are using and find APN settings
Set manually and check APN
In power menu etc make sure DATA is activated on.
TEST
FAILS
Reset rom counter to zero with USB jig then return phone to service centre .

^I did everything as you stated.
I will just try to manually enter APN otherwisei have to call samsung.
Just one thing reset rom counter to zero with usb jig , since i can get into DOWNLOAD no problem without a JIG how do i reset it anyway?
EDIT EDIT : the issue was roms were having incorrect APN's i manually created one and it works.
Went back to Stock 2.3.6 Rom. With NO ROOT.
Thanks for helping me solve this issue everyone!

Caution Before Do Odin to restore!

This is experience of me.
About 1 month ago, I bricked my phone. When I found& flashed new firmware, it boots up. But I found something wrong. When I pulled down status bar, It say "Unregistered SIM". I tried many things I can but it say "Unregistered SIM" I found firmware is not Koodo/Telus firmware and I found it's European firmware! So before restore firmware via Odin, check firmware is correct.
U need to remove sim card and sd card before using odin
Otherwise sim card will be wiped
And sd card too

You could try a baseband change
AOKP 4 LYF (possibly CM7 aswell)

When I learned to flash stock roms I was told to always remove the sim and sd cards before. Once time I forgot to do it and when I noticed I was really scared to have messed up something, but all worked fine. Still it make no damage to take precautions and remove them before flashing with odin.

Never happened till now. Have flashed several times using odin. Only problem is, I get boot loops everytime I flash, but it is solved by clearing user data from recovery.

That happened to me too with one package roms. I solved it by flashing any full package stock rom and then flashing the stock rom I want (if it is one package), and the boot loop will be gone.
The wipe data from recovery its a fix of the boot loop, but still I dont like it get looped in the first start, it makes me think something went wrong in the flashing so I prefer to use the first solution I explained, even if it takes longer
I flashed a lot of times using odin ..never harmed my sim and sd card ..i guess indian sim cards are made of cement XD XD XD XD XD

So does anyone have a fix for this? I flash every rom i come across just to see which is most stable with the best looking UI and latest kernel. Bootloop is always expected but not a prob with stock firmware at hand, or use a full port rom for fast flash without pc.

i9300 Unable to connect/register to network!

Hey guys, I'm in desperate need of some assistance here.
I have an international Galaxy S3 i9300, rooted and with CWM.
I flashed Criskelos XXDLH8 ROM yesterday, and I followed the instructions to the dot.
The flash seemed to be problem free.
However, once the phone booted and i was on the new ROM, i tried to make a call, but I kept getting an error message saying "not registered on network".
I instantly freaked out, and wiped my phone+cache, and flashed stock Samsung ICS (XAALE8) via Odin.
The phone booted normally into the stock ICS. But instead of seeing signal bars on the status bar, all I can see now is just a circle with a line through it . :crying:
I did some research on the net, and didn't really find anything to help me, which is why I'm here, seeking ANY help from you guys.
I'm freaked out guys! Any assistance would be SO appreciated! thank you!

go settings >wireless and networks more settings > access point names
make sure you have something in there

look up apn for your area.
otherwise you can try flashing a different modem for your region or even try another region from here

hey dude,
i tried pretty much every software fix i could find.. but no luck i returned the phone and got it replaced. Apparently, there was an issue with the radio on the motherboard.

Are you sure the firmware is suitable for your model for your phone's factory? There are at least three regions of producing Galaxy S3 International version. Some final product made in Vietnam and Korea has a lot of problems and need to be changed to the board made in China due to software problem. You should try using the "Firmware Upgrade And Initialization" in the "Tools" in the Samsung KIES 2.5 because it will download the latest official firmware according to your model and serial number and it will wipe your phone at the same time.

Do you have any tutorial link/post where I can find the proper instructions for it? I am familiar with odin, but not kies...

It sounds very much like a locked phone that was unlocked in a suboptimal way
Unless you have the original EFS (on which you might try to do a cleaner unlock) you will be "condemned" to always need a patched modem.
The short story is that network locking is done in a protected/checksumed database in the EFS partition and some older unlocks were not even attempting to keep the database "clean" - they were forcing a flag there but since there was some other check at a later time you need a special "patch" in the GSM modem code - that is located in a different partition and might be a little different from one country/carrier to another. Unfortunately the modem is (usually) updated with major ROM updates, so you have now lost that patch - but you can take a look below for a fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601
The bottom line is that (unless you restore original EFS and do a very clean unlock) you will always have to re-apply the modem after you program a new full ROM!
