If I understand your question correctly you want to know why it says re-locked instead of locked. The reason for this is when you unlock your phone carriers want to know if you have or not just in case you try to make a warranty claim. Therefore since you re-locked the phone it shows them it was unlocked in the first place. So they don't become liable for a bricked or malfunctioning device due to unlocking the phone and trying to load custom roms, rooting, etc. Unfortunately, there is no way around this. Hope this helps you and if so please don't forget to hit the "thanks" button.

Should have used the rev method

[Q] Going back S-ON

Desire has Downgrade HBOOT, so you can return to stock completely. How is possible with complete access to the system to have pure HBOOT, aka not relocked? Can be the same be done with E3D as well?

If by "pure HBOOT, aka not relocked" you're meaning after "relocking" the bootloader having it NOT display "relocked", this is only possible using the Revolutionary method.
The official HTC unlock method does not allow this, at least on the CDMA version of the EVO 3D. On the GSM version, the limitation of the official unlock method can be bypassed, probably very similar to the Desire method by downgrading the Hboot, then using the revolutionary method.
If that isn't clear enough, or the question is different, please add more detail.
Hope that helps clarify!
Yes, I unlocked bootloader with HTC tool, then downgraded HBOOT and S-OFFed. After using both RUU and manual update, the "relock" status was back. Why?

The CDMA device doesn't have this option and that is generally the crowd I hear from the most. You're the first GSM user to confirm that after downgrading and being s-off with revolutionary, once bootloader is upgraded and re-locked, it will display as "relocked".
Off the top of my head, there aren't too many divergent paths to take, but more details to your process would help.
While running Revolutionary and S-OFF, directly upgrade either via RUU or flashing an updated bootloader. At this point, does the updated bootloader show Relocked?
If not, is the internal memory still unlocked? If so, is the internal memory locked?
Depending on this outcome, we can formulate the next steps. At this point, we would want to know:
1) what is displayed on the bootloader, locked, unlocked or relocked?
2) what is the *real* status of the internal memory, write protected or write unprotected?
The question really hangs on how the latest stock bootloader determines the lock, unlocked and relocked status which it displays. This can be considered fairly low level and there is not a lot of publicly posted information or research on this specific topic.
Any feedback or testing you want to provide would be help and informative! The CDMA version of the EVO 3D can't perform these tests, only the GSM version is able to downgrade, as far as we've seen.
Hope that helps!
Version of HBOOT is irrelevant, when I replace it with ship HBOOT it says *unlocked*, yet still S-OFF. Only ENG HBOOT will remove it, but after replacing it will bring it back.
But you gave me an idea. I'm going to try to replace HBOOT, then unlock it, S-OFF again and then to re-flash stock ROM.
EDIT: I still have access to NAND memory.
Yeah, that didn't help.
I have a theory that it must be something outside HBOOT.

not yet rooted but i unlock bootloader & try to s-off but not supported hboot 1.49.0018 so i try to downgrade h-boot but not success & its now hanging on htc screen & rebooting time and again so plz if u have idea
The only hboot number supported is 1.49.0007 and 1.49.0008 anything above this require HTC dev so youve done that next you need to install a custom recovery next download a Rom and flash it next you will start the process off downgrading of your hboot to any of the hboots thats stated above once this is done your ready for alpharevolutionary.io then and only then you will be able to reach the almighty and famous s off in this order
sent from my EVO 3D s off using xda premium
And remember, if you screw up anywhere during the process, you can always download the GSM RUU, relock, and flash it through bootloader.
I wouldn't advise relocking unless you're completely stumped since i dont think you can unlock again after that.

S-Off the Aftermath

Something has been bothering me for the past two days. After achieving S-Off I went ahead and unlocked the boot loader via HTCDev (Noob Tool). Now after reading some post it seems I made a mistake Hboot currently says : unlocked and S-off and I also installed JB Hboot now I kind of want to go back to locked but also S-off ,can anybody give me some good directions on how to achieve this?
Also the main reason for this is that I think i messed up my proprietary port on my rezound and might have to take it back in the future. Just moving the phone around with the USB cable attached to my PC I constantly get disconnect and connect sounds on windows and loose inter SD access and Ext also. I just want to take precautions if I really do take it back so I can replace it and just S-On again.
Also I think I twisted the port while it was attached to the USB cable cause I slept on my phone while charging
What do you mean LOCKED but s-off? LOCKED means S-On, no such thing as locked and s-off

Thats actually really wrong. S-Off is S-Off. Unlocked gives you access to additional fastboot commands (there are a couple hboots in the Dev section that do this without changing the locked status).
[edit]
Correction, you need to S-Off again to become locked. There is a thread in the dev section about setting S-On (it's easy).
CAUTION: Make sure you are on the stock hboot when you S-On. If you S-On the GB Eng hboot or the Juponutbear hboot, you WILL brick your phone.

Everything you just said was wrong. Normal state after achieving s-off is a locked bootloader. Locked won't matter because there are no longer any security checks. You can essentially flash whatever you want.

Just to clear this up for you, if you unlocked after achieving s-off you will not be able to lock again without returning to s-on then back to s-off. If you try to lock now using fastboot oem lock you will end up "relocked".

[Q] HBOOT 1.53.007 question

HI! i rooted my device some time ago, when i had hboot 1.49.007 following this.after some time i had to unroot it because i had to take it into warranty(IN MY COUNTRY AN HTC PHONE IS WARRANTY VALID IF IT HAS A "LOCKED" BOOTLOADER{not relocked} AND S-ON).I simply made it "LOCKED" S-ON following this.
Now the question. My brother recently thought he wants to root but he has HBOOT 1.53.007(did the OTA).He doesn't want to lose his warranty since the phone is quite new(6 months old).As far as I seen yet there are only methods implying that you unlock the bootloader via htcdev.com .As far as I know that implies that you will have a "RELOCKED" bootloader forever.I also saw some htcdev unlock methods and after them downgrading to HBOOT 1.49.Is it possible to achive unlocked s-off and later,if he needs it,to achive locked s-on?
THANKS!
It is. Check the developement forum. Near the top there are some stickies on how to achieve s-off which is more reversible than HTCdev unlock method. Juaponutbear seems to be the easiest but that's just my opinion. As with any rooting method, these carry the risk of permanantly bricking your device. Read all the documentation before trying it.

[Q] PROBLEM "Locked" s-off

Guys, I didn't find any explanation for this here, and I still have a problem. I have HTC EVO 3D GSM..
I was on 1.53 hboot and I unlocked bootloader via HTCdev.com. After that I wanted to do s-off with "wire trick"..I successfully made it. I wanted to install Disarmed Toaster ROM, but I had a bootloop. So, I downloaded new PG86IMG.zip, downgraded hboot, and now I have 2.3 GB android, with LOCKED BL and S-OFF..now..How do I get UNLOCKED bootloader..I tried with htcdev.com again, but failed..There is error failed: remote not allowed
Hope you can help me..
This post explains the situation you are describing on the CDMA version, and I suspect it is very much the same on the GSM model. If you want to read the original explanation by Unknownforce it is here.
You should be able to use the JBear hboot for your phone instead on unlocking the bootloader, or if you need an older version I think I read there is a GSM version of the Revolutionary bootloader.
ramjet73
You just installed JBear again and you will gain UNLOCKED. Or you should Unlocked again w/ HTCdev.

I dont think locked should be a problem as long as you are s-off. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i believe you can flash roms/kernels etc now.
why do you need it to be unlocked?

This is correct. You do not need boot loader unlocked I'd you are s-off.

Some people still seem to unlock the bootloader after gaining S-OFF so they can run fastboot commands like "flash" and "erase". If you try to run those commands with a locked bootloader you will get the "failed: remote not allowed" error even with radio S-OFF.
The wire trick leaves the bootloader locked, but choosing the JBear hboot or flashing another custom version (engineering or Revolutionary) is a better way to get access to those commands than unlocking the bootloader again.

Thank you all..I did what had to be done..Now, I have s-off with Jpbear hboot..mwakious rom..and it works like charm ..This is my first ROM installed on HTC EVO 3D..and I hope I will get used to install new ones ..
