Archos G9 101 Turbo - Touchscreen Sensitivity Problem? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I got my 101 Turbo on friday and flashed the newest 4.06 firmware. But somehow I'm wondering about the touchscreen sensitivity. It seems my screen is not very sensitive, especially swiping is really hard.
This video demonstrates the problems I'm having swiping:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmVJPOYGAzU&feature=youtu.be
So I enabled the debug feature for showing the raw touchscreen data. I realised everytime I swipe, there is a chance that the touchscreen registers a "going back motion", like drawing a hook while swiping. This can be seen in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vMSy6EJxRk&feature=youtu.be
This hook like motion that the screen detects would explain why I have trouble swiping from one screen to another.
I also tried the "SGS Touchscreen Booster", which was recommended in some other threads, but it does not have any effect at all (propably due to kernel changes in ics).
So my question is: Is this normal for the Archos G9 101, or is my tablet faulty?
PS
I recalibrated the touchscreen like a hundred times. Pretty sure this is not a software problem.

It is software

This seems to be a different issue. My screen is accurate, but not sensitive.

Being accurate and sensitive are mostly the same thing, also I do have sensitivity issues, I don't know why Archos haven't fixed these issues yet.

It seems your right.
I have downgraded to Honeycomb and the issue is almost gone. This video compares HC against ICS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPjTyzsFYvU&feature=youtu.be
After upgrading to ICS, the problem appeared again. In another forum, someone with the same tablet has no problems on ICS. This seems pretty strange to me.

Maybe the screen drivers aren't 100% yet, that or because every device is different so some don't like ICS kernel?
If it does turn out to be a hardware issue and Archos offer free fixes I hope to get a free upgrade to a 101G9 1GB Ram, 1.5Ghz version
EDIT: Do you have have a 1.5Ghz by any chance? Just wondering as my Turbo doesn't have Turbo on it xD

I already contacted the shop where I bought it and asked for a replacement. I will report if the new device shows the same behaviour with ICS.

[Q] gen8 vs gen9 comparison. others. rom issues?

Hi,
I've almost made decision to buy 101 gen8 for my girlfriend as a first (budget) tablet, but just wanted to ask for your opinion. Especially for specific issues/limitations that gen8 might have as opposed to G9.
I had 101 G9 for a couple of days for testing and we liked it. But it's a more expensive option and not really offering that much more I think. To sum up differences:
1. On G8 real-use speed (processor) should be fine, not much worse than G9 I hope
2. screen not much worse according to reviews ? (apart from the angles which are told to be much worse)
3. one less usb port in G8, not a big issue (the G8 port should work with 3G stick too I presume)
4. no GPS in G9, not that needed here too
5. android version and ram available- and this might be an issue as only ICS might be available and not officially I guess -what are the clear advantages of honeycomb over froyo? I still don't know..
6. flash support- on G9 it generally worked in websites, on gen8 I'll have to mess with it I guess and the result will still be worse ? Is it a different flash version or just less working due to system ?
7. firmware/rom issues - I read in some posts there were some unresolved issues couple of months ago in G8. What is the current state of buggy-ness there considering newest updates? :/
8. anything else? battery performance looks to be about the same..
Thanks
G9 is much better, at least for me...
I had a 101 Gen8 for about 1 Year, and now I have a Gen9 80, and for me it is much better :
- G9 CPU has 2 Cores, G8 only 1
- Screen is much better
- My USB Host Port on G8 was broken after 1 Month, this happens a lot (read Forum), 3G on G8 works if you install UrukDroid, not in Stock Rom (Drivers missing)
- All G9 has GPS
- Android 3.2.1 is better for tablet, and in real Live it's true
- On my G8 101, I never had Deep Sleep, that means my Battery drains fast in Standby. That was the biggest Issue for me and the reason why I changed.
On G9 I have Deep Sleep
Have Fun...

yep, I saw these reports about usb. does it mean the hardware just stopped working ? what about your experiences of the warranty service of Archos ?
regarding the deep sleep I saw that in 2.4... (I think) firmware update it was finally working, or not ?
with new gen8 firmware
the Archos 3g dongle working on 101 gen8
yes the USB Host stops working, nothing happens on plug in USB Device.
My Last G8 Firmware was 2.4.80, and with this no Deep Sleep.
Remark : with the Cyanogen Mod from AOS, deep sleep is working, but in the Beta there are other Issues.
For a Month ago I decided to contact Archos Support about my two Issues (USB and Deep Sleep), I wrote the an Email and no arnswer until today
My Lucky was that I bought it by Amazon, I send the Device to Amazon and after 3 Days I became the Full Money Back. Since this, I am a big Fan from Amazon
With this Money I bought my new Gen 9 80...

usb died on my 101 as well. I mainly use it for surfing, so haven't sent in for warranty support yet. To get an RMA for your device it is best to call, as they are very slow responding to mail.
Screen on Gen 9 is way better than Gen 8 101. Also, unless rooted, there is a limit on the apps partition in Gen 8, so if you want to install a lot of apps and don't want to root, you may run up against this. I am not a heavy apps user, but I did run up against this limitation. No apps limitation, in gen 9.
Also, more RAM on Gen 9. Browser on Gen 8 frequently shuts down if you have too many pages open.
The gen 8 is still a good device for the money, but does have some limitations. Btw, I have the Gen 9 80, not the 101
OK can you just clarify what's the situation with flash support on gen8 ? is it working fine on websites after installing/upgrading to what is needed ?

Flash 10.3 works best on my gen8. However it is very stuttery when trying to play video from amazon. Flash 11 is worse. I am using flash 11 on my gen 9 and movies play much smoother.
You tube app on gen8 works fine.
You might look at http://forum.archosfans.com/index.php.
Now I'm confused. there's a problem with availibility locally with 101 gen8 and I found out about arnova 10 g2 (or 10b g2 which seems only different externally and weighs more) - these have 1ghz ARM like 101 but 512mb are told to be generally fast with 2.3stock and can play full hd
also may have better screen (IPS?). downsides are lack of bt and hdmi, but these are not that needed in my case
Not sure about battery life, not much detailed reviews on 10 G2 found
(Concerning emails to archos) Just send the mail twice, or 3 times and they will answer quickly, at least that's my experience with contacting them...

Did you see it in real ? I'd suggest to try to see all models running before taking a decision. G2 is IPS, but I've seen one and it appeared poor quality to me, certainly not equivalent to Samsung/Motorola or even Acer
I didn't have the 101 gen8 at the same time to compare, but in my memory they feels about the same quality.
my personal feeling regarding screen quality is: Gen9 > 70 Gen 8 > 101 Gen8, Arnova G2.
Regarding processing power, don't take ARM and GHZ value as a criteria. All of them are ARM, and GPU / # of cores / SOC (I'd say in this order for Android) are more interesting criteria.
Memory is a very important criteria, 512 MB memory is good, the 256 of Gen8s are a bit low.

Bauhn AMID-972XS rooting?

Just bought this tablet this morning. Found out that the programs have been signed with the wrong id. Can't update programs without deleting them, which means I need to root the device. I'd like to know if any of the rooting methods are better than any other if they work. I'd also like jellybean. Would I have to try and make a custom rom? Or could I try one from another tablet?
I'd be grateful for some help, but I know everyone is busy with more interesting stuff, so I'll wait patiently.
In the mean time I'll try some of the methods out there and hope I don't brick the device.

+1 on the questions.
I think for root, some tools using generic exploits for 4.0.3 might work. but for custom roms we might be out of luck.

Thanks. does that mean we can use the ICS 4.04 firmware from http://en.ployer.cn/support.php?id=3 along with the install guide from it? (and that the firmware between the bauhn and momo units is the same, or compatible, despite physical appearance differences (like physical keys, and pooosibly another CPU (the bauhn tablets are all Amlogic Cortex A9...if the A10 in the allwinner is the CPU type ref))?
also, any idea if the page you linked to has cooked roms with root included?
OK.
Rooted with this...

Seems to work. Have deleted youtube.apk from the system directory. Rebooted. Installed youtube 4.06? (I think) Now youtube just won't run. Did a full factory reset and cache wipe from recovery (wasn't even sure recovery existed on this thing, but there you go). Installed youtube again. Still doesn't work even after deleting program cache and deleting settings from app menu.
Will see how I go with the link from AJ88. See where it leads.
More later.
You may use 4.0.3 firmware in your tablet and may use clockwork recovery 5 in your tablet...
Many people use this firmware in micromax funbook..
Just give it a try many things in this player momo tab and your device is same..so do at your risk..
First try to run recovery if you can flash it successfully first backup your current firmware so that in future if things goes wrong you can get your original device back.
Best luck

If bauhn tablet is running on cortex A9 processor than this will not work for you...
Because this Chinese custom Roms and all stuff there on tablet republic is for A10 all winner tablets...
Inspite of that just read that forum throughout may be you can find any answer..
Or you can PM That forum admin for further help

So I have to find firmware compatible with my processor and other hardware inside this thing? Do I have that right?
Time to start looking for something with the same hardware.
Yes that's because if your device ram is 512 and you flash a firmware of device which has 1gb ram than how it operate?
Same for processor

these might be silly questions, but since we now have root access - is there a standard Cyanogen mod for ICS we can install/along with the required CWM or do those need to be custom made for the specific customization of ICS 4.0.3/rom/kernel/bootloader/etc?
Not silly at all as far as I'm concerned.
But; from what I've read, there is no ROM that can be installed on everything. They all have to be modified to suit the hardware.
I'm still looking into ROM kitchens at this point to figure out what needs to be done to create a ROM.
Needless to say, this'll take a while though.

If you find something that works let me know. I'm happy with ICS on mine, but I've found that the USB firmware is not exactly perfect and doesn't work properly through the Android API. You have to resort to the Kernel Native driver. I wouldn't mind finding a firmware that actually works properly.
If anyone is making a rom for this device, I'll be happy to assist, but i don't have any programing skills.
There are too many bugs on this system with Ice scream sandwich and hoping a rom would clean them out. Especially with updating the youtrube app on Google play.

Try the Ainol novo7 Elf2 Tablet at SlateDroid.com
After countless protests we've finally gotten the company AMLogic and Ainol to release sources. Though its dirty and incomplete, its something.
Some had a go at making CM9 too. The tablet uses the same SoC (AML-M6) so it has some compatible drivers, it would need to be cooked a certain different way to make it compatible though.
As for r00t, try:

And if that shouldn't work, this one is guaranteed to work:

And if that didn't work, then its not the tablet's fault, you're to blame ; )

Hi, I'm experiencing weak wireless signal on the AMID-972XS while other devices like phone and laptop seem to pick a better signal at the same location.
Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering if it's normal due to the hardware spec of the wireless card or is my unit faulty.

I first thought it was a faulty tablet then I replaced it and I'm having the same problem with the new one.
When I try and load a youtube videos it takes a while and when it loads it keeps cutting out.
I check the wireless bar and find that there's only 2 of the 3 bars of signal.
But on my iPhone same located youtube videos load fast and no drop outs.

[Q] Acer/Viewsonic 21.5" Smart Display /w Touch Android 4.0 ICS

Greetings everyone!
Last night I saw on HSN a new Android 21.5 inch Tablet/Monitor with a wireless keyboard mouse running Android 4.0.
First of all I wanted to know if anyone else has seen or purchased one. I searched for the device and I found a couple of YouTube videos showing the devices at tech shows and another one showing a ViewSonic version that was the same as the Acer device. Looks very cool (what I could see of it).
Second, I wanted to know if anyone has one and could give some first hand info about it. Like if it is rooted, can it be upgraded to Jelly Bean, etc.
Any info would be great! Especially if anyone has one and already hacked it!
I was thinking about getting one. Oh and I do know that it can be used as an HDMI monitor with touch screen capabilities (Windows 8 is what one video stated).
Thanks! And if I do get one before anyone replies, I will give the low down! :fingers-crossed:
Picked one an Acer in trade, quick check online shows availability at the box store for ~$400. Haven't had much time to play, but my initial impressions are positive.
Colors are bright and viewable at any angle.
Speakers are passable and a headphone jack provides options.
2 USB ports, need 1 for KB & mouse
MicroSD slot, unknown capability but works with my 8gb sandisk
Sometimes feels slightly underpowered, especially if using lwp- not a major complaint.
Chrome & Netflix work fine, so it meets 90% of my needs. Cannot currently install Facebook native app
It does do HDMI in, but not sure about output of touch for windows 8. I'm not saying no, but haven't looked in to it and doubtful.
There seems to be very little info on these things. I did take a quick few stabs at rooting with little success.
Can report:
Was able to install stock Google drivers for adb and bootloader
Could connect to adb and push files unable to run psneuter. Can't remember error but seemed to indicate locked bootloader
Only one physical button, so no "pwr+volume up" type stuff
Able to reboot to bootloader via adb
No display in bootloader whatsoever
Fastboot OEM unlock does not seem to work
Can reboot via fasboot reboot
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Fun Gadget with promising Features and a few downfalls.
I got one of these Acer DA220HQL Smart Displays a couple of days ago. I figured I will share my experience so far.
Hardware:
The Screen is well viewable from different angles and it stands solid no matter at what tilt you set it to. You do have to use two hands to tilt it up or downward. The one Button it has is solid. USB Ports are on the right side. HDMI/Micro SD/Power/Ethernet in the back. No VGA or DVI Ports. Mini USB for Touchscreen Support under Windows and Audio Jack are located on the left side. Along the bottom are the Speakers which are loud enough but not spectacular. The swirly silver Cover over the Speakers is in my opinion not exactly beautiful and would have been nicer in black. But that is just an unimportant detail which might not even bother you. There are two holes behind the cover above the Power Button not sure for what that is.
Android:
The Display is running with the newest Update Android 4.0.4 Kernel-Version: 3.0.21-00003-OMAP-Android+ [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Mar 21 15:41:01 CST 2013
Pros: Runs smooth with great Touch Support under Android. Acer delivers a Quick Access Soft button add-on to Access Volume / Settings / Favorites etc. fully customizable. Logged in with my Accounts and was able to install all Tablet Versions of my Apps. I choose Apex Launcher Pro as my Default Launcher and restored successfully my Backup from my Paranoid Galaxy Note all Apex Settings. Android continues to run in the Background. Meaning you can start a download and Switch over to Windows 8 until it is done. With the Display connected via USB to Windows you get Access to the Storage Spaces of the Display to copy things to and from the Display.
Cons: Speakers do not continue to play when switching to Windows/HDMI. Switching between Android and Windows could be faster.
Windows 8:
When connecting the Display via HDMI and USB for Touch Support you get a two Finger Touch Display for Windows. You can Switch between Android and Windows 8 by staying on the On/Off Button for a while until the Onscreen Display (OSD) appears. Under Android you get an Icon to Switch faster.
Pros: Solid Stand for Touch Operation, 1920x1200 Resolution, One and Two Finger Touch support works good in Windows 8 for Primary Display.
Cons: Only two finger Touch Support which means in some apps limited Multitouch Support (Bing Maps 3D etc.), For Gaming I recommend a Gamepad like the idroid:con - Bluetooth Android controller since the two finger Touchdisplay does not react if more than two fingers touch the display. Works in combination with a Multidisplay System (I am currently using 6 Displays inkl. the SmartDisplay) but the Acer DA220HQL can only be used as the Primary Display with Touch Support. Without Touch support or in Mirror mode it will work fine.
Would I recommend this display?
Yes and No. Yes because it is a cool gadget from Acer and is a cheap way to have a Touchscreen for your Computer with added bonus. No because Acers gadget are not always fully up to par (instead of two finger it should have 10 finger support). In the long run that will become a Problem. I owned over the years a couple of those oddities like an Acer C300 Tablet / Acer Iconia DualTouch Screen / and now this Acer Smart Display. They all had their share of problems and I assume over time this will not be different.
Would I buy another?
Yes, for my Grandma since it is perfect for a Skype Station with the Built in Camera. I would love to use Paranoid Android on this Display to adjust DPI Settings and switch to Phone mode but for my Grandma it would work out nicely as it is.
PS: It seems the Viewsonic 220VSD 21.5" Smart Display and the Acer DA220HQL 21.5" Smart Display is the same Hardware just a little different Software.
Nice Setup you got there swiss :good:
Finally Got One
Well we finally got ours from HSN. Wasn't too happy with the delays, but that is HSN (long story short they sent a unit that was defective from some one else's return).
It booted up pretty quick. As soon as I got on to our WiFi, the setup was fast and easy. I got a BIG kick out of using the on screen keyboard (pun intended)
So far it performs very well. I would love to have Jelly Bean. I really got used to the Jelly Bean experience. But that is ok. Netflix was pre-installed and has a nice sharp picture.
Missing root. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't installed HP ePrint yet (the Play Store states that this device is NOT compatible with). I will side load it to see if it works. I will put it through it's paces. I think Google Cloud print works already.
I have alot of things to check out. I just un-boxed this and wanted to give a shout about how it is going.
Oh one plus about this system is (and I am not sure if it is Acer's software or the hardware) the wireless keyboard works GREAT! Unlike other tablets when you attach either a USB wireless or Bluetooth keyboard, this works without having to install a Null Keyboard app. When I unplug the keyboard, the on screen one pops up when it needs to. When you plug the USB back in the on screen keyboard goes away without any user intervention. The only downside is that spelling correction does not work when you long press a mis-spelled word.
So anyway I will be trying things out and report here anything new or different.
And thank you for the info from you other users. My wife and I are going to use this to replace our aging and almost not even useful G4 iMac.
Again if anyone has any updates or wants to share their experiences, I thank you in advance!
I got this unit as well. As a monitor it works well too bad the speakers don't work for windows.
Not too happy with the android part though.
I don't know if the 4.0.4 version is causing this, but there's plenty of apps I can't install from the play store, including Chrome (I downloaded an apk, but that version crashes a lot).
I got in contact with Acer (nl) today and he told me there are no plans for 4.1/4.2 at this time.
Told him to escalate my request and I will be contacted by the product manager next week.
I'll keep you posted!
PS: no windows 7 driver on their site either!

Yeah found that too but unfortunately the Information Acer provides is not exactly correct. For Example they state a Maximum Resolution of 1920x1080. Luckely mine has 1920x1200 which is a important fact.
It is the cheapest Touchscreen I have found so far. In Switzerland they sell for 389 Swiss Francs which is currently 415 US Dollars. The cheapest Full HD Touchscreen I found starts at 499.-
Got the update and Google Play 4.1.6
JarlSX said:
I got this unit as well. As a monitor it works well too bad the speakers don't work for windows.
Not too happy with the android part though.
I don't know if the 4.0.4 version is causing this, but there's plenty of apps I can't install from the play store, including Chrome (I downloaded an apk, but that version crashes a lot).
I got in contact with Acer (nl) today and he told me there are no plans for 4.1/4.2 at this time.
Told him to escalate my request and I will be contacted by the product manager next week.
I'll keep you posted!
PS: no windows 7 driver on their site either!
---------- Post added at 10:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 PM ----------
just found this driver for Windows 7, works like a charm with this device :good:

I got the update pretty soon after getting it set up. I rebooted because I thought there was a crash problem with Google Play, but it turned out that the Play Store updated to 4.1.6 from 4.0.25. Good and bad I guess. I cannot verify it, but it seems that the OS Update may have caused the Play Store to show "Incompatible with your device" on a lot of apps. Not that this is relevant to this post, but we also got a new HP 5520 AIO printer so that we could use it with this (and our other Android) devices. I was sad to see that when I searched for HP ePrint app, I found it only for it to say it is incompatible. I thought "What the hell! HSN was showing that it was easily compatible!" Fortunately on my phone, I have an auto backup on install app (File Expert) and have a copy on my phone which I dump onto my network drive. So I used ES File Explorer to look at my network drive and installed it from there with no hitch at all! I have done this with other apps and they all work fine except some start up in Portrait mode with the screen being sideways on the DA220! We also have a Rikomagic MK802IIIS on our 40" HDTV and I do not have this problem at all!
Now if they put a swivel on the back to allow you to switch it to portrait mode, that would be COOL! (I'll try posting a pic! :fingers-crossed
I think it must have to do with the prop file. But I am just slightly able to understand some of the system level stuff.
I hope some XDA Genius can find a way to root this baby and maybe even a Jelly Bean Rom! LOL  :fingers-crossed:
Some apps work great even with the 2 point touch screen. Fruit Ninja is a blast on a BIG screen! LOL Some do not work like Stupid Zombies 2.
I have mixed feelings about some of the things. I really am hoping for a Root solution. I miss my AdAway app!
Hope this helps! I will keep updating here with new info when I find it!
so did anyone get this unit with a wireless keyboard and mouse IN the package?
if so, could you take a picture of the keyboard and mouse and post it here?
thanks!

I am using the Samsung VG-KBD1500 Bluetooth Keyboard and a Logitech M570 Mouse.
Also I have a Snakebyte idroid:con Bluetooth Android Controller. > http://www.snakebyte-europe.com/en/container-produkte/products/android/idroidcon/ (so far no Modus I tried works with NFS)
Flipboard is a nice Software for the Display. Worth checking out. To check on the Kids or check on the House I recomend IPCam Viewer. For TV, Slingplayer with a Slingbox.
i got an email from acer (nl) yesterday, the guy i chatted with on friday escalated my question about a 4.1/4.2 update to the product manager.
same answer: there is nothing planned
replied to him this device really needs an update because too many apps cant be installed, i downloaded Chrome through apk but it keeps crashing on me.
also, the usb function (to hook it up to the pc) isnt working correctly, as soon as you switch to the monitor side of it, the tablet part becomes unreachable through usb
told him i was very disappointed by their answer and asked him to, if possible, escalate even higher into the organization
will let you know what their next answer is

Chrome seems to be preinstalled on mine and works fine. But you are right a Update would be great and we probably should all ask them for a Update. The switching is unfortunate but since I have multiple Monitors I can Keep it on Android and still use the rest of the Monitors on Windows 8 to connect to Android.
That said I did find that the Monitor is best used as a Android Standalone device in the Kitchen or something like that. You might decide to connect your Windows 8 Notebook from time to time but thats about it. As a Standalone device it is great because of the size. I went ahead and installed one for my Grandma. She is 86 years old and never used a Computer before. She is now able to call the Familie with Skype and even get lost in Flipbook. She basically just clicks all over the place and reads what she finds. But the important part is she knows how to get back to Skype. The Home Button is big enough and the Skype Icon on the Desktop also.
odd that you have Chrome pre-installed, could you please check what version you have installed?
or even better, post the .apk here?
i dont have room to use it standalone and love that it is also a monitor
its almost perfect, just the android version is holding it back
got the keyboard/mouse today, works perfectly, would be nice if i could change the functionality of the mouse buttons tho, cant find anuthing?
I got one too in taiwan few days ago.
I found that it's so annoying and terrible way to adjust the sound volume while watching movies, such as ones from YouTube. Also, no way to root it so far seems to be a big problem for me. I really wanna install a firewall APP to make it safer. So, can anyone please kindly post a way to root this thing? thanks in advance.

Yes I got the Acer wireless keyboard and mouse in the box with mine. I got ours from HSN. My wife wants to ship it back to them because it is limited on Google Play. I am trying to figure out how to root it and hopefully fix that. Anyone tried downloading apps that the play store indicates is not compatible and run them anyway? I have some work great! Others work but are displayed in portrait mode. That would be ok if there was an easy way to tilt the display on its side!
Still looking to see if anyone has rooted this thing. We may just send it back. But I am hoping for new info soon! :fingers-crossed:

So far None of us seem to be able to do so. Hopefully either Acer gets an Update together or we can find someone with enough knowledge to root it. UAE4Droid / Amiga Games run great and are fun for inbetween.
so i sent in a list of apps that arent working on this devicce. they mailed me back that they would test these apps.
today i got another email....
translation:
"unfortunately, it seems that indeed a numbers of apps do not work with this device. the answer however remains the same: there is no update planned"
and now the worst part:
"this is because the purpose of this device is not to support every application thats made available for it"
HUH????
i sent a message back, telling them i was greatly disappointed and that they should make the source for the da220hql available.
not that i see that happen...
@LoveMyAndroid2010: could you please post a photo of that keyboard/mouse?

Can I install a firmware from a specific tablet on another tablet with the same specs

i have a chinese tablet (Teclast P98HD A2Q6) with some very good specs
it has 4.1.1 but it's laggy
there's another tablet called (PIPO M6) with the same processor and display & it has 4.2.2 with the latest SDK for the chip
can i upgrade my tablet with PIPO's firmware ?
No, the bootloader, radio and baseband are not the same at all and the CPU is different so it is not safe to do so.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
thanx
i thought as they both have the rk3188, same display and basically same specs; i could use the same firmware on both
hmm

It is a tablet so the radio etc drivers don't apply.
Well, I do have the same tablet, great specs. waiting for my charger to arrive (the seller forgot to post the charger). As soon as I receive it and have enough battery juice, I will flash it with the pipo M6. so check back in 2 weeks and I'll let you know.
thanx utopia I'll be waiting
can u use your tablet or the battery is dead?
I wanna know if u have problems with the mic
I have to speak directly into the MIC's hole to record or to use Skype
I tried a pair of headphones with in line mic but the mic didn't work, I don't know if the socket supports external mics & it's f'#$%in annoying

I can't use the tablet. It has ran out of charge and I don't have a charger at the moment.
Oh, I thought I was the only one with the mic issue. even if you talk directly into the mic, it barely records anything. I'm hoping this is a software/driver issue and not a hardware issue. I do not think it supports an external mic
I'll let you know as soon as I receive my charger.

What is the voltage on your charger? is it 5V, 2A ? I ordered a 5V, 2-3A adapter but doesn't seem to charge it. I wonder if it is 9V or 12V, damn it, more waiting again
I can confirm that it doesn't work , doesn't turn on. Had to flash back to Teclast 4.1.1 again. I guess we just have to wait for them to release 4.2. Good luck
thanx utopia ... we'll have to wait then
plz if u know ay thing new post it here, i'd really appretiate it

I have 4.2.2 installed and rooted. Installed different sound recorders and tried them all. The issue is definitely a hardware issue. Overall I'm not happy with the tablet at all. The issues that I have had so far:
1- Mic
2- Sometimes I need to press the power button a few times for the screen to wake up, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds to do that.
3- It reboots automatically, rarely but it happens.
4- The performance of RK3188 is horrible. CPU is fine but GPU is very much under powered for such a high resolution screen.
I am on the latest firmware by teclast - 2.08. Still waiting to see if any other update is released that solves the screen problem at least but I have a feeling it will never be updated again. In the meantime, I have purchased a Ramos i9 which has an intel processor. The tablet is one of the best as I hear. I will be receiving it in 3 days It has the GPU of Galaxy S4 (PowerVR SGX 544) which should handle fullhd screen easily
Hello, how can i tell if teclast is A2Q6 or K9W8?
There is this ROM tha is for p98hd k9w8
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/58098-rom-top-notch-tablets-teclast-p98hd-k9w8-release-1-firmware/
And how did you install the 4.2 rom?
Thank you?
Teclast is a2q6. you can download the official firmware from the following website.
http://www.teclast.com/tools/pad/pad.php
click on the right arrow > and enter a2q6 , it will take you to the download site. you can later root it easily with vroot http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
for installing the firmware, you need to use "rockchip batch tool". installation tutorials are available online on many forums
hope that helps
don't use the website you mentioned. you'll get a black screen and you'll brick it.

Teclast A2Q6 - USB driver
I have Teclast P98HD pad (A2Q6).
I have downloaded the Android 4.4 version from Teclast website. And also rockchip firmware update utility.
There was USB driver utility along with the firmware.
I did update the USB driver.
Then power off the pad. I did press the Volume down button with start button and restarted.
It went to the firmware upgrade mode with only android logo visible on screen.
But the rockchip firmware utiliy did not detect the pad at this stage.
Could anyone suggest what could be the reason? Is it the problem with USD driver?
How to resolve this.
Also can anyone tell where exactly can I get USB driver for RK3188 .

[Help] Screen Artifacts - Is this normal? Techlast T20 [Video]

Hi All,
Have Purchased a Teclast T20 android tablet and while setting it up I thought of running a screen test.
Noticed those lines appearing randomly, after I saw that, I also noticed them showing in one or two apps (KOReader, some news app etc).
Video here: https://streamable.com/ukmn3
Is this caused by the GPU? does it mean device is defective (hardware) or is this something that can be fixed by software?
Thanks!
Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

I had screen tearing, when scrolling pages. Also games ran very slow and stuttered. I then noticed that my T20 hardware revision was the T2E2, yet the preloaded Android build was for the T2E1. After a very long and tedious process of trying to sign up to the Chinese Baidu cloud storage, I was eventually able to download the official stock ROM for the T2E2 revision (also a VERY slow download < 100 KB/sec).
After reflashing my Teclast T20 with new T2E2 ROM, my screen tearing is now FIXED! Tablet also runs overall a lot smoother. And games run at normal speed.
I uploaded the ROM, repackaged with 7-Zip to save space - also renamed the Chinese folders in English, to my OneDrive for safe storage, since it is such an ordeal downloading from the official source. You are welcome to grab a copy, if you also have the T2E2 and need this ROM. Cheers.

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy moving interstate.
You will notice in the attached screenshot, that my Android version now shows T20(T2E2) under Model, which now matches my hardware revision. Even though your screenshot does not show T2E1 anywhere on your Status page, the fact that you are running Build number 1.16, means it is the Android software build for the T2E1. I'm guessing that they simply did not bother displaying the hardware revision T2E1 for the first revision.
You can double check your hardware revision, by looking on the rear of your T20 Tablet. If you have a T2E2 hardware revision, then you probably have the same issue I had, with the mismatched software/hardware.
Otherwise, if you have the T2E1 hardware revision, I know that there is a later version of Android available for the T2E1, version/build 1.23, which you can try.
Also, sorry, not sure about charging. I have only left mine to charge overnight, so don't know how long mine takes to charge.

Thank you sir!
Indeed, on the back of the tablet says T2E2 so wrong firmware as you mentioned.
Thanks for putting the files together - had an exceptional situation with this tablet!
TL;DR: I have no idea how I updated the firmware?!
So I installed Mediatek Driver provided and was following the Upgrade Tutorial pdf, loaded the Download Agent and Scatter-loading agent into the flash tool on my PC.
Tablet was connected via USB, android debugging switched on.
Got stuck at step 8 when trying to install the driver for MT65xx Preloader: This wouldn't show with the tablet ON, regardless of Debug setting.
Translated the guide and says Tablet OFF>connect USB - still not showing so I press Volume + on tablet..
On the computer I didn't get anything but tablet went into Boot Mode - I selected Normal: took some 3 minutes to boot and Voila! Fresh Android in Chinese, all my data gone.. ?!
On the tablet there were a few new Chinese apps that didn't look familiar - went to Settings trying to change language to English and also checked Android Info out of curiosity..
It now says T2E2!
I didn't 'flash' this via the PC.. so how did that happen? Is it possible the the T2E2 firmware was actually preloaded on the tablet?
Doing some checks now..
Thanks!

It looks like you managed to successfully flash the new firmware. The new firmware is Chinese (but supports English no problem).
I discovered that the weird way our Tablets are flashed, is that once you hit the 'flash' button in the SP Flash Tool, you then connect your tablet via USB cable in the OFF state (not turned on)], which starts the flash.
I have found that the new firmware fixes the screen tearing and definitely improves smoothness. However, I notice that the scrolling frame rate still drops (stutters) while touching the screen and performing scrolls and swipes. Frame rate seems to improve (smoothen) once the finger is lifted off the screen. I am hoping a future firmware update (hopefully soon) will fix this issue.

Good to hear your T20 is now working better :good:
Also, I noticed that charging while the T20 is ON is VERY slow. However, charging while OFF is quite fast. I use the included USB cable, plugged into an AUKEY Quick Charge 3.0/2.0 charger. Not sure if it is compatible with MTK Pump Express, but my tablet seems to still charge pretty fast when OFF and connected to this charger.

Hi, I just got my new T20 from aliexpress, and it shows "T2E2" on the back, but shows "T20" in status page, without the additional info....the build # says "V1.02_20181206", which seems like your same build , only a few weeks newer (dec 6th instead of nov).
I don't see any screen tearing, but I do notice low frame rates when playing average games like Marvel Contest Of Champions. During fights, it stutters, giving me worse performance than the 2014 Oneplus one that i used for this game previously.
I tried forcing GPU rendering under developer options, but it doesn't help. Is there anything I can do to increase the game performance? That's the whole reason I bought this tablet.
Would it help to try a custom ROM that's Android 8? Or is this a GPU problem that can't be fixed, unless they revise the firmware, which is very unlikely?
Any advice would be great, thx.

Hi. Looks like the correct firmware build :good: albeit with a slight date update.
I am definitely a little disappointed with game performance. I know that the T880 not a super powerful GPU. But I believe that the T20 is still underperforming due to the Android OS not being optimized for the Helio X27 CPU and T880 GPU. Raw benchmarks of the Helio X27/T880 GPU suggest we should be getting much higher frame rates in games than we are seeing on the T20. Really hoping they provide a firmware update (hopefully Oreo) to take advantage of the Helio X27 better. I notice that the T10 received several updates over a few months, after initial release. So I'm hoping that the T20 gets similar treatment and we see at least a couple of firmware updates at some point.
But yeah, I have been sticking to my Nintendo Switch for gaming, since the T20 has been pretty subpar for gaming. Even my Xiaomi Mi Max Pro (original) with a Snapdragon 652 processor, blows my T20 with Helio X27 out of the water. T20 has been ok for most things other things though. Although, the fact that videos play back with an ever so slight stutter, suggest that the software/drivers are definitely not in sync with the GPU. The hardware video decoding on the Helio X27 should make all video playback buttery smooth.

Cheers.
hola me podrias decir los pasos que has seguido para flashear la room?
gracias
