[Help] Screen Artifacts - Is this normal? Techlast T20 [Video] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Have Purchased a Teclast T20 android tablet and while setting it up I thought of running a screen test.
Noticed those lines appearing randomly, after I saw that, I also noticed them showing in one or two apps (KOReader, some news app etc).
Video here: https://streamable.com/ukmn3
Is this caused by the GPU? does it mean device is defective (hardware) or is this something that can be fixed by software?
Thanks!

Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

I had screen tearing, when scrolling pages. Also games ran very slow and stuttered. I then noticed that my T20 hardware revision was the T2E2, yet the preloaded Android build was for the T2E1. After a very long and tedious process of trying to sign up to the Chinese Baidu cloud storage, I was eventually able to download the official stock ROM for the T2E2 revision (also a VERY slow download < 100 KB/sec).
After reflashing my Teclast T20 with new T2E2 ROM, my screen tearing is now FIXED! Tablet also runs overall a lot smoother. And games run at normal speed.
I uploaded the ROM, repackaged with 7-Zip to save space - also renamed the Chinese folders in English, to my OneDrive for safe storage, since it is such an ordeal downloading from the official source. You are welcome to grab a copy, if you also have the T2E2 and need this ROM. Cheers.

Cheers mate, this is helpful!
I get screen tearing when scrolling pages as well - the only thing is, I don't know how to check the hardware version?
Settings > About screenshot attached
PS. did you have any issues charging? mine seems to charge slowly, I am waiting for an USB voltage/amp meter to find out what's going on

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy moving interstate.
You will notice in the attached screenshot, that my Android version now shows T20(T2E2) under Model, which now matches my hardware revision. Even though your screenshot does not show T2E1 anywhere on your Status page, the fact that you are running Build number 1.16, means it is the Android software build for the T2E1. I'm guessing that they simply did not bother displaying the hardware revision T2E1 for the first revision.
You can double check your hardware revision, by looking on the rear of your T20 Tablet. If you have a T2E2 hardware revision, then you probably have the same issue I had, with the mismatched software/hardware.
Otherwise, if you have the T2E1 hardware revision, I know that there is a later version of Android available for the T2E1, version/build 1.23, which you can try.
Also, sorry, not sure about charging. I have only left mine to charge overnight, so don't know how long mine takes to charge.

Thank you sir!
Indeed, on the back of the tablet says T2E2 so wrong firmware as you mentioned.
Thanks for putting the files together - had an exceptional situation with this tablet!
TL;DR: I have no idea how I updated the firmware?!
So I installed Mediatek Driver provided and was following the Upgrade Tutorial pdf, loaded the Download Agent and Scatter-loading agent into the flash tool on my PC.
Tablet was connected via USB, android debugging switched on.
Got stuck at step 8 when trying to install the driver for MT65xx Preloader: This wouldn't show with the tablet ON, regardless of Debug setting.
Translated the guide and says Tablet OFF>connect USB - still not showing so I press Volume + on tablet..
On the computer I didn't get anything but tablet went into Boot Mode - I selected Normal: took some 3 minutes to boot and Voila! Fresh Android in Chinese, all my data gone.. ?!
On the tablet there were a few new Chinese apps that didn't look familiar - went to Settings trying to change language to English and also checked Android Info out of curiosity..
It now says T2E2!
I didn't 'flash' this via the PC.. so how did that happen? Is it possible the the T2E2 firmware was actually preloaded on the tablet?
Doing some checks now..
Thanks!

It looks like you managed to successfully flash the new firmware. The new firmware is Chinese (but supports English no problem).
I discovered that the weird way our Tablets are flashed, is that once you hit the 'flash' button in the SP Flash Tool, you then connect your tablet via USB cable in the OFF state (not turned on)], which starts the flash.
I have found that the new firmware fixes the screen tearing and definitely improves smoothness. However, I notice that the scrolling frame rate still drops (stutters) while touching the screen and performing scrolls and swipes. Frame rate seems to improve (smoothen) once the finger is lifted off the screen. I am hoping a future firmware update (hopefully soon) will fix this issue.

Yes flashing was weird, I didn't expect that?!
Seems like the update fixed the screen artifacts which is great!
Thanks

Good to hear your T20 is now working better :good:
Also, I noticed that charging while the T20 is ON is VERY slow. However, charging while OFF is quite fast. I use the included USB cable, plugged into an AUKEY Quick Charge 3.0/2.0 charger. Not sure if it is compatible with MTK Pump Express, but my tablet seems to still charge pretty fast when OFF and connected to this charger.

Hi, I just got my new T20 from aliexpress, and it shows "T2E2" on the back, but shows "T20" in status page, without the additional info....the build # says "V1.02_20181206", which seems like your same build , only a few weeks newer (dec 6th instead of nov).
I don't see any screen tearing, but I do notice low frame rates when playing average games like Marvel Contest Of Champions. During fights, it stutters, giving me worse performance than the 2014 Oneplus one that i used for this game previously.
I tried forcing GPU rendering under developer options, but it doesn't help. Is there anything I can do to increase the game performance? That's the whole reason I bought this tablet.
Would it help to try a custom ROM that's Android 8? Or is this a GPU problem that can't be fixed, unless they revise the firmware, which is very unlikely?
Any advice would be great, thx.

Hi. Looks like the correct firmware build :good: albeit with a slight date update.
I am definitely a little disappointed with game performance. I know that the T880 not a super powerful GPU. But I believe that the T20 is still underperforming due to the Android OS not being optimized for the Helio X27 CPU and T880 GPU. Raw benchmarks of the Helio X27/T880 GPU suggest we should be getting much higher frame rates in games than we are seeing on the T20. Really hoping they provide a firmware update (hopefully Oreo) to take advantage of the Helio X27 better. I notice that the T10 received several updates over a few months, after initial release. So I'm hoping that the T20 gets similar treatment and we see at least a couple of firmware updates at some point.
But yeah, I have been sticking to my Nintendo Switch for gaming, since the T20 has been pretty subpar for gaming. Even my Xiaomi Mi Max Pro (original) with a Snapdragon 652 processor, blows my T20 with Helio X27 out of the water. T20 has been ok for most things other things though. Although, the fact that videos play back with an ever so slight stutter, suggest that the software/drivers are definitely not in sync with the GPU. The hardware video decoding on the Helio X27 should make all video playback buttery smooth.

Thank you for your answer! Is your device rooted? Because only if it's rooted you can go to the folder where the file is. Or maybe you have the ROM? That will be the best way if you have the ROM to send it to me. Or to ask your reseller to send it to you? By the way where did you buy it from? That might help me to obtain the original firmware.
Thanks

How is the folder named? Let me look in to that first, i don't think the site allows direct company names that sell this product.
I'm surprised about the low info here on this tablet.
Maybe new info i found will help, it's also known as superpad.
And I'm sure it's no fake. Google it. I will not advertise here.
Still need some good info and answers.

I bought one of these chunks of crap, it ran for 24 hrs now it won't boot it had newer yospad firmware but I can't remember the exact build cause it won't boot now. What I need to know is how to do a hardware reset, not the little reset button it just restarts it or another yospad rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Who the hell gives names to this devices .. ? Flytouch 5 ? zomg!
this is the ONLY company that has the Infotmic SoC available for implementing into tablets:
http://www.shuoying.com/global/index.asp
http://www.shuoying.com/global/Product.asp?/3.html (tablet page)
I Know that, cause I personally visited the head of Infotmic SoC design (Shenzhen) and ShuoYing CEO, also in Shenzhen (Infotmic HQ is from Shanghai)
If there is any other tablet with "Flytouch" design, then they are tempered from the original tablet made by Shuoying, or they are so wild that it is really a mystery of it's origin.
My guess is that those are regular FT2 (since all have the same CPU) tweaked by some wild chinese people, Kernel and OS, and RAM/ROM
not to all - dont buy tablets from companies that dont show up in 1-2 hours search. You'll end up with tablet that someone assembled by hand and a screwdriver, and most probably extremely bad OS.

I think your completely right there.
I use it for a remote control know.
Thanks for the input btw.
Digital Zoro - im sorry for your failed tablet device.
On the other hand - I find the FT2 design to be the best tablet design ever. it obviously lacks the fine finish, and better materials, but - 10 inch wide tablet, with every god damn port there is - pure win.
I saw the "actual" FT3 in Infotmic Shenzhen, and it looks awesome - capacitive screen, ARM Cortex A8 based infotmic SoC (about time dudes, you are sooo late) .. dont know why isnt out yet, cause all those named "FT3" dont have same specs as the one I saw.

My Flytouch 5
The design is not really bad and i like that it has the rj-45 port.
The screen I find bad. No multitouch and slow reaction when touched.
Its thick and heavy to hold.
Flytouch 5 should have GPS build in, but it doesn't.
The Flytouch 2 3 4 5 are all the same design. On one moment it lost the second mini sd slot.
Is this only with the fake ones?
No, they are all faulty. the forementioned Shuoying company makes crapy tablets
I took for bussines 30 units the first time around, and I still have 6 broken units. others had flaws, mostly of how they are assembled - everything is sticking out, and such. USB/SD slots die more often than you could imagine.
buttons are the biggest problem - they are not glued in & soldered - they are JUST soldered. so the only thing that holds them into place is Tin (Sn) and we all know how that is firm and solid
oh, there is also a screen problem - there are 3 types of ZIF wire-to-board connector types for the screen, so if you ever need a screen replacement - dont even think about it.
the best assembled chinese tablet is from a company Utopia, in my expirience. you can find them by the name "imx515" A8 or A10 tablet. it turns out that solutions for assemble is better than most of the branded companies.

Bauhn AMID-972XS rooting?

Just bought this tablet this morning. Found out that the programs have been signed with the wrong id. Can't update programs without deleting them, which means I need to root the device. I'd like to know if any of the rooting methods are better than any other if they work. I'd also like jellybean. Would I have to try and make a custom rom? Or could I try one from another tablet?
I'd be grateful for some help, but I know everyone is busy with more interesting stuff, so I'll wait patiently.
In the mean time I'll try some of the methods out there and hope I don't brick the device.

+1 on the questions.
I think for root, some tools using generic exploits for 4.0.3 might work. but for custom roms we might be out of luck.

Thanks. does that mean we can use the ICS 4.04 firmware from http://en.ployer.cn/support.php?id=3 along with the install guide from it? (and that the firmware between the bauhn and momo units is the same, or compatible, despite physical appearance differences (like physical keys, and pooosibly another CPU (the bauhn tablets are all Amlogic Cortex A9...if the A10 in the allwinner is the CPU type ref))?
also, any idea if the page you linked to has cooked roms with root included?
OK.
Rooted with this...

Seems to work. Have deleted youtube.apk from the system directory. Rebooted. Installed youtube 4.06? (I think) Now youtube just won't run. Did a full factory reset and cache wipe from recovery (wasn't even sure recovery existed on this thing, but there you go). Installed youtube again. Still doesn't work even after deleting program cache and deleting settings from app menu.
Will see how I go with the link from AJ88. See where it leads.
More later.
You may use 4.0.3 firmware in your tablet and may use clockwork recovery 5 in your tablet...
Many people use this firmware in micromax funbook..
Just give it a try many things in this player momo tab and your device is same..so do at your risk..
First try to run recovery if you can flash it successfully first backup your current firmware so that in future if things goes wrong you can get your original device back.
Best luck

Because this Chinese custom Roms and all stuff there on tablet republic is for A10 all winner tablets...
Inspite of that just read that forum throughout may be you can find any answer..
Or you can PM That forum admin for further help

So I have to find firmware compatible with my processor and other hardware inside this thing? Do I have that right?
Time to start looking for something with the same hardware.
Yes that's because if your device ram is 512 and you flash a firmware of device which has 1gb ram than how it operate?
Same for processor

these might be silly questions, but since we now have root access - is there a standard Cyanogen mod for ICS we can install/along with the required CWM or do those need to be custom made for the specific customization of ICS 4.0.3/rom/kernel/bootloader/etc?
Not silly at all as far as I'm concerned.
But; from what I've read, there is no ROM that can be installed on everything. They all have to be modified to suit the hardware.
I'm still looking into ROM kitchens at this point to figure out what needs to be done to create a ROM.
Needless to say, this'll take a while though.

If you find something that works let me know. I'm happy with ICS on mine, but I've found that the USB firmware is not exactly perfect and doesn't work properly through the Android API. You have to resort to the Kernel Native driver. I wouldn't mind finding a firmware that actually works properly.
If anyone is making a rom for this device, I'll be happy to assist, but i don't have any programing skills.
There are too many bugs on this system with Ice scream sandwich and hoping a rom would clean them out. Especially with updating the youtrube app on Google play.

Try the Ainol novo7 Elf2 Tablet at SlateDroid.com
After countless protests we've finally gotten the company AMLogic and Ainol to release sources. Though its dirty and incomplete, its something.
Some had a go at making CM9 too. The tablet uses the same SoC (AML-M6) so it has some compatible drivers, it would need to be cooked a certain different way to make it compatible though.
As for r00t, try:
SuperOneClick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Download: http://shortfuse.org/?p=193
That should work, if it doesn't then try:
CF_ROOT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590
Download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.adbd
And if that shouldn't work, this one is guaranteed to work:
ADB Remount Timing Exploit *NEW*
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
And if that didn't work, then its not the tablet's fault, you're to blame ; )

Thanks heaps,
I have successfully rooted my AMID-972XS device using the 3rd option, "ADB Remount timing Exploit *NEW*"
Removed youtube.apk with ES File Explorer from Google play Store.
Downloaded youtube app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699849 and installed it using Astro, from Google play store.
All works fine, thanks heaps
Hi, I'm experiencing weak wireless signal on the AMID-972XS while other devices like phone and laptop seem to pick a better signal at the same location.
Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering if it's normal due to the hardware spec of the wireless card or is my unit faulty.

I first thought it was a faulty tablet then I replaced it and I'm having the same problem with the new one.
When I try and load a youtube videos it takes a while and when it loads it keeps cutting out.
I check the wireless bar and find that there's only 2 of the 3 bars of signal.
But on my iPhone same located youtube videos load fast and no drop outs.

Q5X V2.1 16483 OTT TV BOX 2/16 X96 Original Image needed... please

Hi all!
First of all, respect for all those who manage to keep these Chinese toys alive.
I did some crap and I managed to kill my android box. I try my best to find a firmware that will bring it back to my life but I can't. Dead links, the vast majority, others blocked at 7%. Some just don't want to boot. However, I managed to install some images. I tested X5 Pro, AtvXperience (several versions) ... and a few more Russian images, even Mods. I also tried Chinese versions that do not work on my device. (It seems that this type of board exists under several brands and the vast majority are clones to clones - Chinese business).
Respect for the creators and for their special work, but on my device nothing compares to the original version.
On each version I tested, the live streaming is not at the quality of the original version. Sometimes frames are missing, sometimes the image shakes very fine. I tried different ways to configure it but it doesn't work the way it did at first. The closest to the truth were the Russian variants, but even those began to tremble (fine) after 10 -15 -20 minutes of operation, which did not happen before. (I use this device a lot for online streaming.) Also what I noticed is that none of the images I tested have a Chinese h265 codec.
I still want to rewrite the original image for this X96, even if it looks horrible. Maybe someone still has it saved somewhere. I can't wait to look .... I've been doing it for a week without success.
I would prefer an image though because with the upgrade package it doesn't work out for me.
If you no longer have the original image (the one with that hateful black ...), I am grateful if you would recommend me something that works as well as the original. Simple and good. A ... and one more thing ... 100% for Q5X V2.1 16483 OTT TV BOX 2/16 X96.
I use USB Burning Tool V2.2.0. Is there a difference between Erase Flash Normal and Erase All? What does the Whethear overwrite key option do? How good would it be to burn an image? Erase All mode? Normal? With Whether overwrite key marked? or without?
Thank you very much.
- I also recently tested the @aidanmacgregor version, which seems to be the most suitable so far. however, I encounter some problems with live streaming .. it's not smooth. In action images it shakes a little. Instead, 4k video on Youtube is really very good.

TV box H96max X3 Amlogic S905X3 constantly restarts in a loop, what is the solution?

Hi guys,
I had a big problem with my TV box H96max X3 Amlogic S905X3, which constantly restarts in a loop after 40 minutes of use and then unable to access the home screen. I flashed it by upgrading the firmware and the upgrade operation was successful by following the process posted on my post below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...gic-s905x3-how-to-reset-t4132107#post83047297
After flashing, the problem has certainly decreased, it restarts less but it has not disappeared and remains unusable.
Please, do you have an idea of the problem but especially if there is a solution.
I used :
- the USB 3.0 male-male cable with a laptop
- USB Burning Tool software v2.1.7.0
- u215.H96Max_X3_1000M_9.0.2020.01.13.11.33.img
I await your help and thank you in advance.

Did you check the temperature of the box? There are certain apps that can show constantly the temperature (since you state that the restarts happen after about 40 min of use). What kind of apps you use? Maybe 4K videos (which stress the processor)?
I use mine constantly upon a USB fan.

Hi ath165,
Thank you for your availability for each request for help.
It's a new BOX that I didn't test in time. it just contained the IPTV Smarters Pro application without subscription and after flashing, it contains no additional application, it even restarts using Youtube in HD or SD and even without using it. Me too I thought of the CPU that overheat so quickly, weird because the TV box is a recent model, the processor is good then it has RAM 4GB and ROM 128.
What is the pic of temperature overshoot, 70°C, 80°C?
Do you have to suggest an application with which I will test, "CPU float"?
Should I buy a fan, a model that will be placed under the Box?
Thank you for supporting me.
Download the following app https://mega.nz/file/J8cSRQST#ofOZ0fIwro2jUym_rfa_-VP-Na_8Y_mUwdugv9Qd5lU or CPU float
I use a USB fan for every of my 3 TV boxes. I place them under the box. I made them by myself, using old parts of unused PCs (towers, etc).
Of course you can buy one from the Internet for a small amount of money. It is better to buy a model which has a switch also (some of them with 3 speeds) because the USB ports of our box still have power even when you turn it off completely !!!!!!! So if there is no switch it is going to function 24/24 & 7/7.
I didn't even take advantage of my box and I begin already to have problems. I read that on the new boxes, the H616 processor does not overheat.
Thank you very much for the application and your precious advice for the choice of fan and all of other :good:
H616 processor ??????????? I think we are talking about S905X3 !

No, not for this box, H616 is the first Allwinner processor with Mali-G31MP2 and which supporting Android 10. It also consume less power, so we say it doesn't overheat.
Hi guys,
Even after putting my box on a fan that I bought, the constant restarting problem is not solved so frankly I don't know what to think !!!!! ????? :crying::crying::crying::crying:

If you have another power adaptor (with at least the same Amperes as the original) try that. Sometimes the power adaptors cause similar problems, although this is not a common problem for H96 max X3 boxes (as far as I know).

Acer R13 H265 / HEVC hardware decoding not working

Hello xda community,
I recently bought an used Acer R13 chromebook which is powered by the MediaTek MT8173 SoC.
This chip supportes hardware H265/HEVC decoding, but I am having no luck to get it to work with common media players, like VLC, MX Player, Kodi, etc. I am running the latest stock chrome OS version (97.0.4692.77 / linux 4.19 / 32-bit ).
I bought the laptop with the mindset that hardware acceleration would just run out of the box.
Does someone where know, if this a known issue? Or is there something I can do?
Maybe manually install an 3rd party android system? Update to a newer linux kernel?
Haven't seen anything on it here, but an older discussion on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/87hbwx
Your answer got me digging deeper and I found this great writeup about chromeOS vs. android shortcommings.

H265 decoding is just not supported by ChromeOS, probobly due to the royalty costs.
One solution is to use linux apps via the developer mode. But if the boot warings with beeping will be true on my official chromebook, I might just go linux all the way and ditch chromeOS. (Thinking Manjaro here)
This is such an surprise for me. This beeing my first chromeOS system I naivly thought chromeOS = android.
On my Chromebook Developer mode will beep if you don't hit Ctrl+D before one minute. Doesn't bother me then and I can't live without Developer being on.

Is this during boot? I notice that I hardly turn my chromebook off. Like a smartphone really.
I had a lenovo notebook with an aftermarket wifi adapter for 5GHz. For that I needed an unofficial bios to get rid of the wifi whitelist that lenovo uses .The downside was stupid beeping on every bootup.
Do you notice any performance impact running developer mode? I wonder how much additional RAM gets used and if there is noticeable CPU usage.

Yes only initial boot from being off. No performance impact and maybe it's little better for my usage...
