Slow connection speed in emulator - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been developing some stuff here and there for Android, and I noticed my device emulator has a RIDICULOUSLY low connection speed. I'm not talking about performance which is fine, I'm talking just about 'network speed'. What it means is that transferring files to and from the AVD using ADB (which as you may know relies on networking protocols) is EXTREMELY slow, and what's worse, internet transfers are VERY very slow. Therefor, when I'm working with online content (which my app, and let's face it - most apps are about) it's EXTREMELY slow.
All I found on Google is people complaining about the AVD itself being slow, which isn't my problem, but I tried those solutions anyway and it didn't help (naturally).
It's worth mentioning that those same apps work great and about ten times faster on an actual android device.
Anyone experienced it and/or has any idea what to do about it?

[Q] What do you use ...

Hello everyone,
I received a Samsung Vibrant S for christmas and am a real noob to the android scene. I come from the world of WinMo 5.0 so please bear with me.
I have been playing with this thing for a just a few days so far and am hesitant to root the phone as I don't know yet all the features I currently have in my possession, let alone the amount of money this 'super computer' costs. But I am enjoying the phone so far.
So, I have at the moment just a few questions and would really like your opinions and suggestions on what you use to do certain things.
My Vibrant has the Eclair 2.1-upd1, UVJI6. I'm currently running the system without a data plan, just a basic phone service. With my WinMo 5.0 and having internet at home, a wifi on the rails to/from work, internet at work, there is no need to spend an extra 30 a month for a data plan.
First, I need to sync my outlook calendar on my desktop to the phone. I have tried Kies but the thing doesn't recognize the phone half the time and the other half is used in trying to figure out why there is no connection.
[Q] What do you use to sync your calendar events with an XP / Windows7_64 MS outlook calendar? I am not necessarily interested in syncing email, I have enough of that already, no need to add it to my phone. I would like to sync my personal contacts though, seperate from those at work.
[Q] I have noticed there are very few places to download an APK file. Most are simply installed from the market. From the old WinMo 5.0 days, I had to watch what applications would run on what systems, so my practice has been to download the application and save it to a disk so when I needed to reset my phone/PDA, I could just pull the applications off the disk. You can't do that now with the market. So what do you use to back up your purchased/free applications so you can get them back if you need to?
[Q] I've noticed there are so many upgrades that can be done to this phone, and with all the posts here at XDA, it is very overwhelming. My question here is what about the apps from the market, can they be used with any version of android?
[Q] I have many more questions, but I know you all would simply refer me to the endless amount of posts and suggest I do a little research. The problem I am finding with this approach is the mass amount of data and all the little quirks that set one issue/solution different from another. You can easily spend weeks going through page after page to try and get an answer to a single question. So my last question is this; Do you have any suggestions on how to weed through this conglomerate data to find what you seek without spending too much time?
Thank you all for your insight and hospitality.
First off I would say check out the bible in the development section . You will find most of your answers there . As for your question about app capability most android apps will run on any android phone with a few exceptions . To back up your apps you could use TitaniumBackup but you most be rooted . Read up before you do anything . If you get stuck our are uncertain just ask . The community is usually very helpful .

[Q] [REQ]Mousepad?

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to connect to my (Linux) computer via Bluetooth, and use my android touchscreen as a trackpad. I would prefer there to be no server software, but if there aren't any without it, that's fine. Anybody have suggestions?

I don't think you'll find an app that doesn't require a server component. Most of these are written in Java, it's the easiest to make them cross-platform. I've have the best experience with PRemoteDroid, though I used WiFi, not bluetooth. But PRemoteDroid has support for bluetooth too.
I found 2 good ones (supposedly) one works fine, and I'm trying to get the other to work. :/

[Q] Remote shutdown without server

I work in the IT department of a college and i am looking for an app that I can enter an ip address/host name and remotely shutdown/restart a computer. I know there are apps out there that do it but all I've come across are ones that require a program to be installed on the system ahead of time.
basically I am looking for an app that acts just like matcode's remote shutdown program
I've tried searching but but the results are too flooded with programs that require software to be setup ahead of time.
any insight would be great and thanks ahead of time.
Edit I am rebooting windows 7 computers and have an atrix 4g phone

some confusing questions

I've got some questions that I'm a little confused with, hope someone can shed some light on them.
1) say if I have SSH-Server or Sabnzbd running on the "Desktop version" and you undock, can you still access the server running on your desktop version from the mobile side?
2) If you have an app open on the desktop version say a document or a picture is that then accessible on the mobile side? and will it be the same app or will it know to switch to a different mobile app?
3) if you start to download something or transferring files on the desktop and undock what would happen? will it continue to copy/download or will it stop?
I appreciate that maybe no one could answer these questions until the image is released but what are your views on them?
Thanks

Sv: some confusing questions
I think its like you suspend your computer. When undocking the computer suspends ie. all the things you mention will pause. But I'm not sure.

Obviously I don't actually know how these things will be handled.
But I think I would do it like this:
For the initial release of the OS, I would basically kill and reboot the whole thing when switching modes. Getting a working product is critical for initial release, and all of those type of things would create potential for weird conflicts to arise.
So on day 1, I would not support any of those things.
But a lot of them (like an SSH server) could probably be supported safely. So once I was comfortable with the basic OS working correctly, I might adding things like that into a future release of the OS, first allowing by exception, and then, if everything was working smoothly, denying by exception for apps that simply cannot make that transition.
Last would be the open in a different app. Let's say I use Chrome on the desktop, but Dolphin on the mobile interface. It might be possible to write a helper app that would take your Chrome browser state and replicate it near as possible in your Dolphin app on transition, and vice versa. My guess is this type of functionality would be pretty cool, but very low on a priority list for a new OS.

[Q] Remote access app

Hi.
I'm new here, so apologies in advance if i ask a question that was handled in a previous thread.
I'm looking for a decent app that will allow me to control an android device from a pc. I have a tablet that is being used as a kiosk device and i would like to connect remotely and check the status of apps, run scripts, generally just troubleshoot issues that might pop up from time to time. I would like screen sharing also, that would make things a lot easier. I've tried webkey, teamviewer, airdroid but none of them give me the kind of functionality I need
At the moment I'm using a Nexus 7, but I'd like the app to work on any device. In future we might start using generic android devices, nothing brand-specific.
Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated

Hey,
once there was ShareKM the dev kinda dropped the projekt. I found some Guides for it because the old version stopped working.
Here is the original thread ShareKM on XDA
If you read it a bit they start to talk about the workarounds.

Thanks. But as far as I can see, this only works if the pc and android device are on the same network. My kiosk devices are hundreds of kilometers away, so I need something that works over the internet
