OK First and foremost i would like to say Thank You XDA Developers, you have helped me figure out ALOT about my phone.
First lets just say I'm a noobie at this (aren't all beginners?) and i did try the search function but couldn't find anything . if someone does find, please link me too it, it will be greatly appreciated.
OK now back to the problem, the thing im trying to do is install a custom ROM onto my HTC Raider LTE from rogers, i have rooted/unlocked/ installed CWM recovery on it and my phone is S-ON. this is where things get difficult for me, i don't know where to go from here, i have already downloaded DarkRaider_v1.5.0 and virtuous_inquisition-v4.0.2 just to see which one is better but i do not know what to do with these files. i have booted from recovery and installed from zip but i guess that's not right cuz i tried it three time and had to re-install the stock rogers ROM 3 times due to it Boot looping. Thanks in advance and sorry for any annoyance i may have caused
You did a full wipe/factory reset before install the ROM?
Anyways, post this thread in the device's forum, where will help you much better.
Yea i did that and thanks i will move this thread

I've searched the forums, and maybe I've just not searched correctly, or for the right thing, but I've not been able to find any information specific to my problem.
Anyways, here's what's happening.
Just picked up a new Sprint HTC Hero, followed step by step instructions to root the phone, no problems whatsoever. Made my nandroid backup, saved to the root of my sdcard, no issues there.
Immediately afterward, I downloaded the Black Sense skin, stuck it in the root of the sdcard, renamed to update.zip like instructions said, turned the phone off and rebooted in recovery, installed the update from the sdcard, rebooted, and now is stuck in a boot loop.
I get the sprint animation, the hero logo with the little android guy, and the HTC splash screen, and then just goes back and does it again.... forever. I have not loaded any other ROM or done anything else with the phone, just rooted the phone, dl'd the theme. Now I have heard about loading a different ROM on the phone, but is this required for the Themes to work? If it is, how would I be able to tell which ROM's are compatible with my phone? Sorry guys, I'm new to this, just trying to pick up info as I go.
Most all of the other threads I have found are directed to other phone users who have installed a Hero ROM on a Tmobile G1 or something like that. I haven't been able to find anything specific for my device, so I'd appreciate any help you all can give. I'm sure its a pretty simple fix, any help?
I had the boot-looping problem on my rooted T-Mobile G2 Hero, and I fixed it by wiping everything from the recovery menu. I dunno if this will help you, since I'm not sure what the differences between Sprint, HTC and T-Mobile's version are, but it might be a good start. :S
thanks
thanks for the quick reply. As usual, I found a boatload of info right after I posted the original thread. I think what I needed to do was to download find and download a rom that is compatible with my version of Hero and android, then find a theme that I like, and then try to update with the theme.
That's about as far as I've got, I'm poring over every bit of info I can find, but its confusing as hell, and poor grammar makes it even harder to understand.

If you did a nandroid backup? boot into recovery and restore the backup, that should reset everything unless you flashed the skin and then did the backup? in that case download a rom for the cdma hero (guessing thats what you have?) rename it update.zip and put it onto your sdcard, boot into recovery and wipe EVERYTHING!, then flash your update.zip. only install themes for specific roms.
yea, had no problem with making the nandroid backup, and after the boot-loop, I pulled the battery and then booted in recovery to restore. No problems there.
I guess I just didn't get enough info before I started messing with the device. Thanks for the help tho.
Ok, so I've tried to do my own research and have come up with very little. It took me about a year to figure out what rooting actually meant and did. So I rooted my SGS vibrant and flashed a bionix rom (i think). It says "bionix shut down sequence initiated" or something like that when I turn it off (any ideas on what it is or how I can find out). I really have no idea what version it is. I also would like to put a new rom on my phone but am scared ill screw it up. I watched a youtube video that told me how to do it the first time I flashed anything. It works with a few random screw ups but KILLS my battery. I would really like for someone who knows more than me to explain what a nandroid backup is and how to do one. What the clockwork rom manager can help me do. What the one click lag fix did. Why my computer won't read the storage things on the phone when connected to the phone anymore. What is this odin thing. What is a kernel. will I still get the ota updates without the stock rom. Where did my stock rom go when I pushed backup before I flashed this rom in the rom manager app. Did I actually wipe all the original data from the phone. Why can't I restore boot animation with one click lag fix(it says somethings not found... Did I wipe/delete it?). What is an apk and sdk(or skd)? What is a voodoo lag fix. How many times can you flash beer something goes wrong. I'm really new to ALL of this and have had no help really when I've asked a lot of people who apparently know more than I. ANY help from ANYONE who knows ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Almost all of those questions can be answered by reading the Tips and Tricks or Noob Guide threads. Those two threads have given me all the info I've ever needed for the Vibrant.

Theres a lot of questions in there so I'll just bite off a few at first. Before that, have you taken a look at the vibrant bible thread in the dev forum? It covers a lot of the basic ' how tos '.
Firstly, you can possibly see what version of bionix you are running by looking under settings - about phone - build number. now might be a good time for you to odin back to stock and start fresh. Odin is a program that runs on your pc and can safely install a rom on top of any lag fix you may have enabled. You can read about using odin to go back to stock in the vibrant bible thread I mentioned earlier. Once you go back to stock you can receive ota updates from tmo if that's what you want or you can reroot and flash another custom rom. If you choose to flash another rom I would recommend reading every post on that rom's thread so you can learn from other's experiences. I would also recommend you keep reading the bible thread, theres a ton of good info there.
Good luck.

Dude, THAT is why I do those stickies, thank you! So glad it helped man!
That was really helpful, thank you and I will be looking into this more little by little. But I also have 2 very specific questions:
1. Is it possible to turn an htc windows phone into an android phone?
2. will I lose everything if I push the flash clockwork recovery in the rom manager app? I haven't done it yet but everything I've read has told me to do it the first time. I have the bionix rom running and don't remember flashing the clockwork recovery thing EVER. have I messed up or can I just do it whenever? And is it true thats how you make a nandroid backup because thats what I've read.
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out, and being patient with me. You guys are the reason I love android. Thank you from your very lost, slowly learning, new friend.

Depends on the phone, many do have android roms available. Just look up whatever windows phone you have in the forum section and if there has been some android development there will most likely be a section in the thread devoted just to android development.
You need to odin back and start from new

Hello everyone, seems it wont just let me ask this in leomars thread I'll have to post a new thread here.
I installed some mods from revolution app yesterday and not my sgs2 is stuck on the Galaxy screen. Before the boot animation. I cannot flash leomar base in cwm because the file is no longer on my sd card. I was wanting to know how I can convert the base rom to an odin file and flash it so my phone can boot again.
Thanks in advance. Would not like to wipe it as I have no backups either. If i have to thats ok, not much on it, just have to try and remember what apps I had lol. But I really dont want to wipe.
need 10 posts
another one
and another
one to go....
this rule sucks man....
another one again
You need to wipe. You can't fix it. Follow the steps described in the Sticky 'BOOTLOOP? DON'T MAKE A NEW THREAD.'-topic.
Help Needed, I am, lost!
Ok, first things first, I am now on version 1.2.4349 of what I am not sure. I think it is a factory ROM.
I restored from a bricked device, using nvflash and the update Rom 1.2.4349. Since I have been trying to install Clockmod. I can't get it to work.
Every time I boot per instructions here, nothing happens...either it freezes on the first screen with the birds, showing update kernel found.. or it starts the update then freezes. I have tried internal boot file and external boot file... even tried clockmod v8. with same results.
There are so many post about rooting this device and do's and don'ts that now I have become confused.
Can someone please point me in the right direction. I want full market access, and a workable rook. Where do I need to start?
Thanks
This will get you going in the right direction.

ok, I must not be your average dummy. I followed directions to the word. Trying to install Clock work mod via option three(3) nvflash. Everything goes well... flash runs and does what it should. I only saw a brief blimp of a dos window when it ran. Next tried to boot using power and v+.... It said "Recovery key detected", I released buttons...now it says "booting recovery kernel image." And it just sits there, is still there now while I type this post.
When I looked at the version it says I am on version 1.2.4349, so I used the 1.2 side of the chart.. Could I have it all clogged up from all the prior failed attempts.
thanks for any help
The "dos window" should stay up for a minute or two. Are you sure your initiating the nvflash correctly? I think it's something like "nvflash.bat"
the dos window was only a flash, and the instructions said less than a second, and you might not even see it.. I used "nvflash_gtablet.bat" to start the flash.
I am lost still
It looks like you've selected the "flash clockwork with nvflash." This requires that you already be on a custom rom, which I don't believe you are.
There is a full nvflash available which will install clockwork AND completely wipes your tablet back to stock. (an excellent baseline to flash a new ROM)
This is the correct tutorial.
http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/nvflash.htm
You'll want to use the 1.2 version with clockwork.
After that, I recommend the Flashback ROM if you're looking for Honeycomb. That ROM includes a text file with a very literal step by step process for installing the ROM. It will walk you through partitioning your SD Card (which is important) and flashing the ROM.
for helping out a noob that didn't thank you, brett.
I thank you for 'im.
If I may say so, I am sorry I can't be on 24/7 and only now have reviewed this post.
Thank you for thanking brett, for me, but there was no need, Because I can and do and will thank all for all they do in this forum. If you care to look at any of my post you will see I do thank everyone.

Your all good lasersc
Happy to contribute qkster, I'm not quite advanced enough to troubleshoot most problems, so I like to jump on the easier ones when they go otherwise unnoticed.

You gave good advice, brett.
On the flashback update thread, there is a recovery package.
Included in the package is easy step by step instructions that spells out everything that you need to follow to nvflash and flashing.
I refer to that frequently.
I hope laser was able to go thru that package.
.39 kernel is almost done. HC 3.2 or ICS is just around the corner.
You rock Brett, Thank you so much. I did as you suggested this morning and everything went well. If you only knew, how long I have been fighting this deal, but with your couple of post...Everything is Well
Thank you again!!!
I found myself in the wrong forum trying to install the wrong stuff yesterday. I found a thread for custom fingerprint scanner icons on the sgs5. I followed the directions to install the one I liked to the T. Including making a backup of the original file. Unfortunately, it wasn't the G900T. I rebooted, and got a VERY persistent "com.android.systemui has stopped" message, and couldn't do anything. So I booted to the factory recovery, and performed a Factory Reset.
Long story short....... The Factory Reset deleted the original Keyguard.apk, and I need a new one. Could someone please upload it for me, so I don't have to Odin the whole Firmware?
I've read, and learned a lot here at XDA, but this is my first call for HELP!!!!!!
EDIT: I forgot to mention. The phone is rooted, but still using Stock Rom. The file is located in root\system\priv-app.
My new phone is rendered useless until this issue is resolved.
Mod. Please delete thread
To anyone that looked at this thread, and at least thought about maybe helping out. Thanks. Decided to just flash TWRP recovery, and Custom Rom. All is well now.
You really didn't need to flash a rom for it.
You could have just downloaded one of the stock roms and copy that one file out that you needed.
Glad you found a resolution.
Seeking help here usually invokes a need for a certain amount of patience.. after all, not everyone can read every post in every sub forum every day. It can take a few days to fill a random request even on a busy site like XDA.
Don't ask me how long requests need to season for niche topics on smaller forums..

Yes. I agree. I thought I'd keep the stock ROM on this one, and just modify a few things on it. But since I needed to flash a ROM anyway, I just decided to go with a custom one again.

I understand that, and wasn't expecting anyone to jump. I just know this is the best place to look for help. As i said in the op. This is my first call for help. I always search as much as possible before posting. Even though I no longer need it. I appreciate you taking the time to get the missing file for me.
