I'm proud to post here the latest developement for our HTC Flyer. All the credit goes to Drew Garen for his nice work on the device. With the funds we rose all together in the thread here, we got Drew Garen a Flyer to help us developing ICS AOSP from source (not porting). I hope he will enjoy the Flyer as we all do.

From Drew Garen's website :
Here is my latest download compiled download. It’s based on IceColdSandwich 7.4 and is pretty functional except for a few flaws including graphics, wifi and bluetooth.
What works:
HW Acceleration
Camera
Video Camera
Data
Audio
Internal/External Storage
NTrig Pen
What Doesn’t Work:
Front Camera
Wifi (fix coming next build)
Bluetooth (fix coming next build)
Graphics (fix coming with new kernel)
Graphics are fuzzy sometimes but in my future kernel thats currently a work in progress they will be fixed along with wifi and bluetooth.
Download
Install Info:
You must be on Honeycomb HBOOT S-OFF (I Suggest using Honeycomb HBOOT Light S-OFF) and then boot into revolutionary cmr. Wipe Data/Factory and then install the rom from zip. Reboot and your good.

Kernel is from Chaosz-X's Git
If you want to donate, he would appreciate extra $$ for his time working.
Great ROM!
Great work @drewgaren.
Great news! I'll wait until this has WiFi though...
Just what we needed , if the accuracy of the NTrig pen is good enough and he fixes the graphical glitch + wifi/bluetooth i guess we have a daily driver soon
Nice. You are the hope of Flyer.

Yup, the level of joy vaporized rapidly when I read there was no Wifi-support yet. Not worth flashing it yet, for me at least.
Great work nonetheless, will keep an eye on this thread. Must have ICS!
First off thank you for your efforts and good luck in continued work on this.
I am not sure it is fair to call this a beta, at this stage it is more like a pre alpha. It boots, as mentioned no wifi, the graphical glitches make it unusable for more than a couple minutes, scrolling is similar to the ice cream panini rom. The weird rotation bug on dexters work seems corrected here. Can not comment on many other features as i am a wifi only user and the graphical glitches make it pretty difficult to actual navigate through the device. Encouraging to see it boot but this is definitely a WIP
can I expect gsm call function in next build? I really love this rom but need phone call function.

Yes. Thanks to Drew.
I agree that this is more like a pre alpha. It seems to have the same issues as the Chaosz-x rom except that we need not manually enter a command to get the touchscreen working. Hopefully one of the other kernels solves the problems.
Very much looking forward to this.
Any chance we'll see any bits and pieces from CM9 make their way into this?
Nice, thx for sharing

im sure that as soon drew is finished with this, there will be both unofficial CM9 builds and KANG builds of this and if not i will learn how to build and make a KANG build, if it's not to difficult
Very cool, hoping he can share some of his work with the other devs and vice/versa and maybe well have a full AOSP, and hopefully a sense 4.0, port in the near future!

there is a sense 4.0 port that works pretty well and is moving allong
i agree, hopefully dev collab will ensue and bring us even closer to the full potential of this device hoping we see a working kernel 3.0 as well
I am currently working on many different kernels that fix wifi, bluetooth and graphic errors. These are the main issues in the rom. When I get these fixed everything should work out fine. I called it a beta because well right now it's as good as it's gets. I'm working on many different builds as well including AOSP, and CM9. Many things will be worked on and will be fixed over the next couple weeks.
Any donations are helpful and all info can be found at my site drewgaren.com
keep it up..

Damn it! I just got my Flyer set up the way I like it after flashing every Rom out there. I guess I can try another.

thank you for sharing this is great .. but I prefer a rom with sense. It would be great if you work together on port of sense 4.

Hi, I'm one of the proud owners of a viewsonic G Tablet, and I want ICS. I want you 'points' to help to make a great and powerful tablet that only costs about $260, and MOST IMPORTANTLY I WANT IT TO HAVE ICE CREAM SANDWICH!
To the point: I am offering $40, and I urge other users to put in a pledge for as little as $1, to make an ICS rom with all the hardware working, full usb functionality, and hardware acceleration by the 20th of December.
Features needed to be included:
*=optional
@=Crucial
-Hardware [email protected]
-Camera [email protected]
-USB working with external storage*
-Cyanogen style settings with lots of options
-Equalizer if its not in the OS*
-WiFi working nearly [email protected]
-The internal storage and memory recognition issues [email protected]
-HTC Sense Weather style widgets *OPTIONAL*
-MIC working (Goes hand in hand with Camera working)
-Face Unlock working with camera (IOW: if there is an issue when the os is first ported it needs to be fixed before release)*
-HTC Style mirror app
-Overclocked CPU to [email protected]
-Sleep button/standby/screen off not crashing the [email protected]
-Newest Market
-Backup working*
-Any other goodies you can think of and/or people really want and offer rewards for below
Really hope a dev sees this and wants some cash! Also, if you finish it earlier and/or with some other cool features I might throw some extra money your way. Good Luck devs! if you want to contact me just sent me a message on the forum for my real email.
Count me in...but I think this is a pipe dream!
From what I understand reading many posts here is that Nvidia will not release the hardware drivers for Honeycomb or ICS. Viewsonic has given up on this product.
Even if people manage to port, it will only be a funky interface running on Gingerbread or Fryo drivers. It will be like running Windows 7 on a Pentium III 500MHz hardware....it will run but wont be the same.

I kid I kid. Would be wonderful though
more
if more people put some money into it then it could be a very possible goal, just put in even as little as $10 and it could totally become available
You guys are obviously uninformed. The flashback team is already working on it for free, but they just started a few days ago. The kernel also needs to come out of alpha testing, it seems to be going well though, not too many bugs, so that means soon (like in 3 weeks max) we will have at the very least honeycomb 3.2, if not Ice cream sandwich. Also money won't make it go any faster.
well thanks, but money is always a nice incentive
I tot flashback's team lead just retired? Saw a post on slatedroid this morning.

Me too.
Maybe the $40 windfall will bring them to their senses.
Dan
Seeing that .36 kernel is already in the works for Honeycomb 3.2, they are already working towards making something that should be able to port over to ICS afterwards (hopefully).
well, $40 isn't a huge amount, but if more people said they'd put some cash in 'hint hint' then maybe someone like zyhong would say "eh why not?"
bump for the ics and raised bounty by $20
i'll raise another $20 bucks
Devs over on (the forum that shall not be named) are working their butts off already... FO FRE! But yeah they are working on HC 3.2 and ICS.
Really people?!
People...it's already being worked on! The devs working on this are going as fast as possible but it's a lot of trial and error and it's not their day job!
Money's nice, but it's like a tip. A show of appreciation, more than an incentive. The incentive is just to have it on their own devices!

Not gonna happen
Features needed to be included:
*=optional
@=Crucial
-Hardware [email protected] - Will happen
-Camera [email protected] - Not likely. We don't/won't have drivers for this!
-USB working with external storage* - should happen?
-Cyanogen style settings with lots of options Up to ROM devs. Won't know until after kernel is ready.
-Equalizer if its not in the OS* - Same as above
-WiFi working nearly [email protected] - should happen
-The internal storage and memory recognition issues [email protected] - ?
-HTC Sense Weather style widgets *OPTIONAL* - Doubtful. Not aware of sense on ICS. Use Beautiful Widgets?
-MIC working (Goes hand in hand with Camera working) - Should happen (MIC, not cam)
-Face Unlock working with camera (IOW: if there is an issue when the os is first ported it needs to be fixed before release)* - Again, I doubt cam is likely.
-HTC Style mirror app - ?
-Overclocked CPU to [email protected] - don't know
-Sleep button/standby/screen off not crashing the [email protected] - Will get fixed. This is kind of a "first fix" for the devs as it causes problems in development anyway.
-Newest Market - see below *1
-Backup working* - ?

*1: Please keep in mind that as these ROMs are not registered as compatable devices with Google, technically the use of any Google application is illegal. For the most part ROM devs aren't supposed to include Market, Gmail, etc. in their roms. If Market is included or what version is going to be up to the dev. Also, keep in mind Google has been working to crack down on Market use on non-recognized devices. You may need to use an alternative like the Amazon App Store. I don't like it either, but it is what it is.
Also, on a personal note, WHAT is everyone's deal with the built-in camera? From what little I've used of it in a Gingerbread ROM it's HORRIBLE! Now, what I'm going to work on once we have a stable enough ROM I feel I can test with, is the ability to use a USB webcam! Think, how nice would it be to have it front or rear facing or detachable (use as a barcode scanner?!) and possibly HD! I'm pretty sure it can be done as I think the guys working with beagle board have done it. I'm not very good with this stuff yet, but I think I may be able to hack it!

By all means, if you want to use this to slam me, sure, this deserves credit, the reason I even said what I said was because nobody here has shown anything that was actually compiled with the exception of faux123, There are no real large improvements done by throwing an HTC Kernel, and a HTC base into a rom, this IS the kind of development I hadn't seen from you. Thus far (with this as the obvious excpetion) all the rom's that have been posted were effectively OEM based rom mashups. I am very impressed, and by all means, keep up the good work on a clean, from scratch rom. (I've seen pretty scary rom "developers" in the past, and I'm cautious at best with most of the developers for this device, and this thread has at least to some degree proved me wrong)
*edit, you should seriously consider contacting Max Krivonos, as he is the maintainer of the MT4G-Slide, and/or kmobs, obviously there are alot of framework differences with ICS, but they could probably be very useful in getting this working 100%.

It is a AOSP version ICS, I built the uImage from the tenderloin kernel in https://github.com/CyanogenMod/hp-kernel-tenderloin. There is another guy Andrew Boren who is also working on porting in https://github.com/Evervolv-ICS/android_device_hp_tenderloin, and my work is generally based on that.
You can see the screen shows "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." Touchscreen is not working so there is nothing I can do except force shutting it down... But it still means that the booting is succeeded, screen is working, and I am happy to see that I can make such progress in only four days...
However when I shut it down and restart it, the system became stuck in booting and started looping the booting animation, which is very weird. I reinstalled the rom and it went back to normal, but I then restarted it and it went stuck again... Maybe there is something wrong in the BoardConfig.mk, I will try to figure it out in tomorrow...
I don't know whether I can fix that problem before the new year, I have to go to Birmingham to see a girl from 23th to 27th..... And I also need to keep on my current research works in the department, so my spare time is very limited.....
So don't hope too much on my works, there is nothing I can guarantee about, and I believe CM9 will be published before I can finish porting ICS, yeah.....
ok,looks like i have been out for this for a long time as there are already people working on it and stuck at the same problem…… sorry if my posts has given you false hopes……

I haven't used extract-files.sh, but the ko files from the second github link there.... But it seems like only the screen is working so I might need to find other ways to make my device work.
I found out the problem of booting, looks like the data folder has something bad inside, but I can't be sure as I don't have any debugging tools for porting work. I have to say I am quite new in doing this job....

Thanks for the link, though I have a feeling that as touchpad is such a special device it will not be successful only to change something from other ICS rom and wish it could also work on the touchpad....
It can only be done by programming of platform development from the AOSP source code, which is a completely new area for me to start with. (though I have learned a lot in this week, and I really enjoy it!)
I believe that based on the work of @preduledrew, if anyone want to make a successful porting the remaining work is nothing but only to make a correct hardware settings from it, more like debugging and tweaking instead of coding now...
@preduledrew has updated his files in github and will start to work with @dalingrin after christmas. I think that we can see a ICS port rom in the next Jan, though not from mine I believe....
PS: If there is anybody who might be interested in working on @preduledrew's source code, there is one thing you might need to know: His kernel file cannot work in touchpad so you have to make one of your own, I would suggest compiling from @dalingrin's kernel source code. When you finish that, combine the uImage and the ramdisk built from ICS AOSP source code to make the boot.img and use that to boot up your touchpad.

I guess $99 is a good reason to have 1 foot in multiple eco-systems (altho I really do like having 3 devices all in the same eco-system now, thanks to CM for TP)
EDIT: for anyone that doesn't have the links: for TP dev: https://twitter.com/#!/dalingrin
for Sensation dev: https://plus.google.com/113702637309752822154/posts (they do use the same basic chip 8x60... hopefully they are each benefiting from each others work)
Looks like the disscussion here becomes misleading..... Anyway, as @dalingrin has anounced his progress about porting ICS to Touchpad, and sounds like the first alpha rom will be available in a few days, I think my work right now is meaningless, and I will stop it as there are also many other stuffs occupied in my life... Though it is not something beyond my expectations. But I will continue to do my learning of this area, and might work out the AOSP ICS rom of my own if everything is going well (though I fully doubt...), the experiences I have gained may come in handy in the future.
How I wish I could start do this kind of learning when I was having plenty of free time....
Anyway, thanks for the guys who ever support me for that.
I've been watching the development of CM7 and CM9 for the Nook.
My question, is there a reason one would prefer CM7 over CM9? It looks as though the development of the CM9 software is somewhat more complete. I would like to install it as soon as it becomes available but if there are significant advantages to installing CM7, I might consider waiting. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
rodorr
not every app is CM9 compatible, because it uses new kernel drivers. But CM9 is optimized for tablets and the UI looks way better

Actually, the CM7 team is significantly further along in their development roadmap than the CM9 team is. They seem to have hit a significant speed bump with the Wi-Fi, though.

CM9 will be a better system to run when they are both released, as it optimized for tablets. But, the group working on CM7 are doing so because they wanted something to run while the CM9 team was working on their build -- believing that CM7 development would be quicker.
The CM9 thread wasn't updated for a long tome. Now almost everything is working. Only Bluetooth, video acceleration, SOP (sleep of death) and the microphone doesn't work. Fatire posted a video on twitter yesterday where he shows what's working and what not

I add 1, i add 1 i will prefer CM9 because once we have a stable CM9 ROM then we will be able to get MIUI support for our device too which is AWESOME! that is 1 word .

I don't ready understand why the CM7 team can't use the CM9 team's wifi solution. Do the kernels operate the hardware in fundamentally different ways?
Thanks everyone for the great responses. It certainly helps in making my decision. I think I am going to wait until CM9 is finished for the Nook.
Thanks again.

I don't believe that Chainfire3D works with ICS.
Ideally ICS/CM9, but at the end of the day, get me anything other than a hacked up stock rom that "kinda" works like a real android tablet. I am also not putting down the devs that got us a hacked up stock rom that kinda works like a android tablet, cuz I will still take that over the crap that b&n left us. It is all getting better by the day, and as each day passes we will have better roms and better rom options. I will jump on board for which ever one gets completed first and use both when they become available.
I'm interested in comparing battery life.
For me, the preference will be a Gingerbread based OS rather than an HC or ICS based OS.
I have the Asus Transformer and find myself wishing I hadn't bought it. There are a few things it's good at but I much prefer the NT for everything but web browsing and even there the difference isn't huge. For web browsing, I prefer a computer to a tablet of any kind - the physical keyboard is just very helpful to me.
The advantage of Gingerbread for me is that it lets me continue to manage my library with Calibre, and library management is why I gave away the iPad I bought once I realized how impossible curation on it was.
The MTP interface on Honeycomb's abysmal, and from what I've seen ICS won't support direct direct access, either.
Once using parted to resize /data and /media to my interest turned out to be viable, the NT became a very nice device for me, and I'm finding myself using the Transformer very occasionally now.
My BN library's symlinked to the /media partition so I can use Calibre to manage sideloads as well as BN downloads. I'd love to trick it into downloading the non-enhanced magazines rather than the gynormous enhanced magazines, though, and I do wish market visibility was better than it is on the rooted tab.
If both were released tomorrow, CM7 is the better one in my opinion simply because it's a more polished product. CM9 is still in alpha phase and hasn't gotten several features implemented yet. Been trying out CM9 on my phone the last week and while it's working pretty well, it still has a little ways to go. If you don't want to deal with some bugs and missing features early on, I'd use CM7 until CM9 is more cooked.
I would prefer CM9 but seeing that CM9 is still in development for the NT and since CM7 is at alpha, I'm just going to use CM7 for now. Just can't stand the limitations of the stock ROM. Looking forward to CM7!
I just wanted to say that CM7 and/or CM9 will be greatly appriciated by myself and others that like to use thier devices the way they want to. As far as the so called "hacked up rom" that some other developers have come out with, I greatly appriciate what they have done. I am writing this from my NT and have a "hacked up rom" installed, and I love it.
Thanks ro all devs.

Hi y'all
CM7 beta is now up at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826&page=1 ....
Although I'm gonna go with CM9 as soon as it gets ready (kragoth like sit on edge)
I'm gonna try out CM7 ...
Wait a few days to see the reaction to CM9 and then decide ... CM9 has still not been 'completed' - feature or stability wise . But if the HW accel. of ICS is great I'll jump ship .

This is going to be a pure AOSP CM9 Rom. I usually don't post my roms, because they are tailored for my liking. But figured i'd release a new one. So many themed and ported AOSP roms being released i want something that is as close to base without alot of fuzz.
This rom will be my own personal touch, with a few mods to make it run fast and accommodate long battery life.

Me and Snuzzo have been working on the BT issue for a few roms now, and think we all have hit a brick wall. HTC and Broadcom tech support both suck. Me and Bored spent weeks trying to get this fixed on RezRom S4. But we will get it working somehow.

That's cool, I was totally amped up with Neos AOSP, it's a great piece of work, but when I couldn't use BT calling, it was a huge let down. I know it's a pain to figure out and if I knew how to do this and devoted the time these guys do, I'd try like hell
Any ROM with Dragon in the title must be sweet!
No, that's why it's called "PURE" its not going to be themed. Just a themed Launcher because I don't like stock icons.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Whether or not you should publicly state it or not is a different story.
I'm sure you would be happy to have another choice rather than none at all?
OK so after spending all day fixing lil stuff in the background. I decided to for now drop the Avatar Bazooka Launcher. It kept force closing, and i don't want to release a rom with a bad app. I also didn't like the way it played with Aroma installer, and since this is a pure rom with no extras, was no sense in leaving it in there. Please let me know what changes you guys would like.

Dude, I always find it awesome when devs just drop in good ole Launcher2.apk.
Unfortunately not many devs do that and insist on adding in 'Google Play' launchers, know what I mean?
Dig around in Launcher2.apk a little bit. You might be amazed out how customizable it is if you must customize
Not Great but shows potential for a daily. Not Linaro Speed. but not far off.
Me too, it's why I have so many wives.

Sweet stuff dragonstalker, I always welcome a new dev to get involved in working on our Rezzy! Don't pay attention to the troll :good::good:
Sweet, any more dev action is welcome. I remember when I used to check the the Rez forum with disappointment and anticipation, often regretting getting the Rezound.
Now I don't even know what I want to flash to my phone, and that's a good thing!

Going to make some changes to the hardware accelerations, add the bravia engine, and try changing the r/w speeds. Hopefully will get this Antutu score up to 6000. Tomorrows going to be a good day. But for now. Gonna curl up with wife and dream about Vanessa Williams :silly:
Oh yeah. And I've already made some changes to the BT config files. See if that gets us any closer to working.
