As of a few days ago, when I take a few pictures, my phone tells me that my SD card is not mounted or not present. The only way to get rid of this is to restart the phone and it's detected again - until I take a few more pictures.
I already ran home, after the first time it did this, and backed up my entire SD card to my PC via USB.
Do you guys think this is a hardware issue or something buggy with a ROM?
The phone is a HTC Thunderbolt running Liquid GingerBread v3.2 AOSP . . .
I really don't do a lot with this phone, but the camera I use often, so this is a real deal breaker for me.
I am very soft on this phone, and don't abuse it - I am not sure if that would make a difference.
Generally I would try another ROM, but I wanted to post here and get some thoughts on the matter before I did something drastic, like going back to HTC Sense . . .
My phone has insurance, so that is a plus if it's a hardware issue.
Any ideas? I've checked google . . .
Have you tried re-flashing the ROM? Not with a full wipe, but a normal re-flash of the ROM zip which will format the /system partition and install the ROM again. Just to get everything in order. Also, wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery.
You said you're gentle with the phone, so the memory card becoming loose and unseated is unlikely. Just check to be sure though. Maybe it's a ROM issue, so then re-flashing seems likely to help. Unless it's a problem with the ROM that many people have reported. If that still doesn't work, you can take a nandroid backup of your phone and try another popular ROM for a few days (no need to go back to stock Sense), just to see if the problem still occurs. Then you'll know for sure if it's a software or hardware problem.

i did this in the morning after doing a manual backup of my card last night . . . everything seems to be working, but it's too early to tell if it will last . . .
i assume it's a hardware issue with the card, and need to take frequent backups until i can have it replaced
thanks for the replies

When I connect my phone to my computer with the USB cable, and mount it, the drives do not show up on my computer. Everything looks correct on the phone. I want to get everything off of the phone. What can be done to fix this??
I have tried uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, rebooting my phone, checking/un-checking debugging, and nothing works. Without fixing this, I can not even Odin back to stock or flash a new ROM.
flash different kernel ! or go to dev section and find sd card fix .
sd not showing up on your computer is kernels fault which one you are on some of them are buggy and wont display sd card in computer tab .
pull your external memmory out of the phone put it in the SD SLOT IN YOUR COMPUTER copy rom of your choice ! eject the sd out of your computer put it back in the phone wualllla

Yes, I did that. Like I said, the phone is acting like it is supposed to, but I can not access either the internal nor external SD card through explorer.
You might want to try replacing the connector cable. I had the same problem with my epic and that fixed it
Good luck
clock work recovery , clear cache clean dalivk chace , fix permision , /factory reset should be done last . (it wipes everything) back up .

I am running a custom ROM. What do you mean by "Fix permission" & "factory reset"? Will doing a factory reset take me back to stock?
i tell this to everyone who has this problem: start simple. the first thing you should do in this case is reinstall you drivers. i know it sounds silly, but i have frequent mounting issues that are always resolved by simply running the SamsungDrivers.exe and reinstalling them. it refreshes the driver.
not saying its going to work everytime, but its quite possible. ive suggested this to many people in the past and it worked for them.....give it a shot.
bartek was kind enough to repeat what i said in the next post

yes factory reset will leave you on the rom you are on right now just all from scratch all your programs will be wiped and also all unecesary files that might prevent your computer from finding your sd but REINSTALL THE DRIVERS FIRST SEE HOW THAT GOES as sometimes simple things like that are the problem .

I wiped everything and it fixed my issue. I still do not know were to "Fix permission", but at this point it works. Now when I unplug the USB, it still shows that the phone is still connected through the USB in the top left corner of the phone. Why is that?
I have been using checkrom revolution hd v4 for 2 weeks with DK 2.5.2 with no problems. But after a nornal reboot today, the SD card (internal) can't be read even after several reboots. I tried to formatted it but it can't be formatted either. Just bought my SGS2 two months ago only.
What should i do to recover function of my SD card again? Is it because of the custom rom that caused this issue?
Please help. Thanks!

Try doing a full-stock restore, making sure to do a factory reset, wipe the cache and Dalvik cache along the way. If you're still having problems, take it to a Samsung service center.
That's really strange though - I'd assume that if the OS can't read/write the internal storage, then it shouldn't be able to flash a ROM, or even really load the OS?
just a thought... have you tried to: connect your phone via usb as external drive and have windows do a repair of harddrive.
i had a sdcard which was "read only" under android, after that procedure it worked again flawless
in my case the cause was a faulty titanium backup file....

Thanks for the help! I suspect it might be Titanium Backup problem. The OS finally read the internal SD after a few more reboots but all the data inside is wiped out Not to mention I accidentally formatted my external SD by mistake as well. Sigh...got to restore everything bit by bit. Do you think it could be a media problem initially (i.e. problem with the internal SD)?
Hello,
Lately I've been having some issues with my Samsung Galaxy S II. I am currently using the Omega v10.4 ROM, although I have reset my phone to stock multiple times to check and confirm that this is NOT a problem caused by a ROM, as this happens on stock as well.
Apparently, my phone does not like the standby mode. Most of the time when I unlock my phone, there is an issue that arises which basically makes the phone freeze/hang/lag at the home screen. I am not able to use the soft buttons on the bottom, nor click any of the buttons on the home screen, or slide between other screens. The main button DOES work, and prompts me to change to a different loader.
I've tried this with multiple loaders, and everytime this happens I get the error message "[insert_current_launcher_name_here] was forced to close.", and I get to either force close the launcher, or report/wait. "Wait" and "Report" pretty much do nothing, I just sit there and look at a frozen screen. However, when I do "Force Close", the Launcher at hand is (obviously) force closed, and restarts. Then everything's fine again.
This keeps happening over and over more frequently over the past few days, and I have no idea what caused it. I have not recently dropped my phone, and even though it's got a warranty, I got it from CeX, so I'm not sure how much they can fix on it, if they actually can.
I searched around and some people say it's faulty wiring, but it used to be PERFECT, and I've had it for more than 3-4 months now. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this and how it can be fixed?
Thank you,
Richard Solomou
Given you're having these problems with stock, I'd probably do a format of the internal SD card (also format your external SD card if you have one. Obviously back your important stuff like contacts/sms/call logs up), then reflash stock via Odin. Obviously you want to avoid restoring anything but your contacts, sms history & call logs, I.E. do not restore any apps or app data (including/especially system apps) in Ti. You need to to an absolutely clean install.
If you're still having problems after this, make sure the flash counter is no & showing Samsung Official in download mode (jig it if necessary) & return it for warranty service.

Alright, I'll try to format the internal SD card; I don't have an external one. The way to do this is to unmount it via Recovery and then select "Format SD card", correct?
Thanks,
Richard
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .

I'm not sure if I should continue with Stock after this. What does that mean that it cannot mount /sdcard? Isn't that supposed to be the internal one, since I do not have an external one?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Richard
I just got a replacement LTE not that long ago and decided to give custom roms a go. I used RegawMOD and then flashed SuperLTE rom. I noticed that it was taking a while to pull my music and pictures in from my SD card into Gallery and Music apps. I also went to change my ringtone and my custom tones weren't in the chooser. I thought that it was weird because I gave it plenty of time. I went into ESFileExplorer and can access all of my stuff on the card, but it still wouldn't show up in their respective apps! I thought maybe it needed another cleaning, so i booted into recovery, did factory reset, wiped cache and dalvik cache, rebooted to system... still same problem. The one thing I DID notice this time was that the pictures that were on my external SD card in the DCIM folder showed up in the "All Photos" album in the Gallery, but not in their separate folders. I figured maybe it was a ROM problem, searched the forum and saw 1 other person with the same issue. Everyone was trying to help him, but everything suggested he tried and it didn't work. I then flashed MeanROM hoping to have better luck. SUPER CLEANED it by doing all the wipes twice before I flashed MeanROM.... SAME PROBLEM! People in that forum were trying to help me as well, but everything they suggested, I did, still didn't work. One thing suggested that I tried was to back up, format, and restore my SD card. That actually worked - but only for making a couple of my photo albums show up (not all of them), but my music still won't pull into any music apps and my ringtones aren't in my settings! I'm going craaaaazy! It clearly isn't a ROM problem, what could it be??!!
Might be the phone itself.

Did u try moving all files to computer then mount sd in twrp then reformat? Is it internal sd or external sd2? If you got a cheap sd card off eBay from China it could be that. U try other sd cards to make sure it is the phone?
Try to fix permissions in TWRP. I had the same problem only some pics and no music was showing up in their apps. I fixed permissions and rebooted to everything working fine.

I guess I don't know what exactly the steps are to mount it in twrp and reformat. I haven't tried this yet. Can you be a little more specific on the exact steps? Thank you!! I want to try this!! I see where you go in to mount, but there are a bunch of boxes, some checked, some not...
Its a SanDisc card and I've tried 2 different cards to no avail

If u have tried different cards then I'm not sure that would help. Did you try fix permissions like the second post said? Try that first since it is easier and less time consuming. I've never had to reformat a sd card before, so I don't know exact steps. It's pretty straightforward, just back-up the contents of the card on your computer first.
To reformat on windows you right click on the storage card from computer in start-up menu. Should give warning about erasing everything, but if you've backed up then no worries.

Oh, my bad. I thought there might be some way that would be different by doing it through TWRP. I've already wiped and reformatted the card. I'm pretty sure something happened due to the way the bootloader was unlocked or with TWRP or something. Nobody seems to know why it would happen, but I'm not the only one it's happened to. It's really annoying!!! I tried fixing permissions like 15 times... Nothing is working. Thanks for trying!
Don't know if this will work because of everything else you've tried, but you can give this a shot.

Hello!
Last time I can say that my phone is slowly and I have bugs that no one have! And I dont know where can be the problem.I flashed different roms - aways full wipe, even try with superwipe and format sd card...Still have really strange bugs...
The last time when i flash rom i i did this :
1.Remove the sd card, put it in other device, then format and copy the rom
2.Go to recovery wipe all
3.Put the sd card and flash the rom
4.Flash the boot.img
Is im doing it wrong ? Any advice when to format sd card, before or after flash the rom ? Cuz like now Im with mysensedx 5 and i have really stupid bugs...Before that I was with ics full sense...The first time when i flash it +CrossBreeder mod the phone was flying :victory: I was playing Minions without any lag...But the next time when i flashed the same rom was tottay different thing! And i didnt do anything else..But the phone was slowly and full of bugs...I really idk where is the problem. Now I dont have any mods/scripts and I want to reflash the current rom (mysenseDx5 rc4) with full wipe + sd card format just to be shure that everything is gone but not shure how to do it ? the steps...Any advice or info will be helpfull.
Thanks!
Steps are the same as usual... Just wipe your phone phone complete (without wiping sdcard), then install mysensedx5, and at last install any custom sense kernel for JB of your choice. Important is to install a JB kernel, not a ICS one. Then, you should be fine.
Okay I will try.So you say to not touch the sd card ? Cuz late can be problem or is no need to format ?
As long as the file system on sdcard is fine, there is no need to format it. Because you recently formatted it, I assume that it is fine already.
Not once have you mentioned an actual bug u encountered. Please elaborate so others can help. There is no reason for random bugs if others are not having them, unless u have a faulty hardware.
Ok ok....I wiped again and flashed the rom and...Still got the problem with the app that dont want to stay in the folders .I still didnt istall all apps that I use...On the restart Cleaner and ES Explorer that i moved in the floder before that are outside of the folder...Its annoying...Cuz i like to organize it on internet, social and etc...For now i installed dialer fix and bress back 2kill apps nothing else that can make this thing...Maybe I just have to get over it..Or move to supersensedx...
PS:
Maybe the problem is that i moved them to sd card ?...I will see now

That's possible. Which sd card class are you using? If it's a slow one, that could be the issue indeed...
