I wish I didn't have such a perfectionist mind and be crazy about the smallest imperfections, but really HTC, you need to get your **** together. I upgraded to the Evo3D because I had replaced my Evo4G screen 2 times already because of issues with dust and had my hopes very high that by upgrading to the 3D I might finally be able to avoid the problem. Little did I know, I was mistaken. I lurked for many days for some insight into the whole dust situation before even buying the Evo3D and could only find rare occurences so I figured I should be fine. 2 Months later I have one spec of dust. I said okay, its small enough that maybe I can let this one go, but then today I noticed 5 pieces total. This is a quality control issue and I have tried going to the repair center for sprint and they said it was not covered under the TEP plan. What bull****, and HTC wont fix it either. I'm in no mood to fight this issue with them again that this is a manufacturing defect so I decided I'm going to leave the HTC scene. I really regret to even resort to this but I'm very heavily contemplating an iPhone 4, mainly because of the build quality, and the fact that the screens are all on top of one another, there are no open spaces between any of the sheets of glass, therefore there is no room for dust to squeeze its way in there.
If anyone has any way to get the dust out before I jump ship, or rip my head off, please give me some insight. I really love the android community, and it's been very good to me. Thanks in advance.

I apologize that there was no question mark but I bolded this because I was asking for insight. If thats alright with you of course.
Let me rephrase this in the form of a question, Alex. (I actually am interested in the answer because I can't read my clock on sunny days due to the dust.)
"I have a forest of pocket lint growing in the upper right corner of my screen. Has anyone successfully remedied this? If so, could you please share?"

I only had this problem with my HERO. Got it replaced for free, no questions asked. Had the EVO 3D since launch-day. Not a single speck of dust under my screen. I'm not sure how people are doing this, but I'm beginning to think it's the way people treat their phones. The HERO I had was bought from a friend. I take VERY good care of all my phones, and never have these problems. I don't even use a case on my phone. At most, a matte screen protector.
But in all honesty, you probably should've sprung for the TEP plan. I recommend EVERYONE getting it. And if you get an iPhone, you CAN'T get it through Sprint. You'll have to buy Apple One Care, which I think turns out to be more expensive (I may be wrong).

Lifted it out ... after getting it super hot to make the adhesive gooey, right? I've actually built an EVO 3D from parts laying around, and other parts I ordered online. I don't recommend anyone else do this, it was brutal, but it works 100%.
The other big lesson I learned from ordering on-line: While the website may say: "Brand new parts" they may arrive and you find they are brand new, but did not actually pass quality standards in the factory! The 3D I built has tiny, hair-line scratches in the digitizer! Most time you never notice, but "Brand new parts" doesn't actually give you the full story.
Sorry, ranting here.

My phone has a dust spray on the bottom right corner. Been there since I bought. I'm living with it now since it's out of the way and doesn't usually bother me. But I agree that it's terrible that the phone was shipped this way. I do have Sprint TEP plan but been too lazy to go in.
I've had two HTC phones and do really like them but I'm moving to a Samsung next time for sure. Probably replace this before I buy a new one then sell it. HTC phones are beginning to all look too much the same. Time to move on.
I have the cheap $4 (not including the damage loss) TEP but:
1) I don't want to lose my 1.4 bootloader and get a lousy reman unit.
2) since a bunch of updates (thanks, freeza), it has stopped rebooting at random, which was the only reason I got TEP in the first place
I fear that blowing air in the left side (headphone jack) might move the forest (presently in the upper right) downward, not just rightward. I'm tempted to cancel the TEP and just break it open for a proper cleaning.
I think this was a qc issue. My old evo was 100% clean under the screen. This 3d, after fewer months in the same environment) looks like a freaking dryer vent.
I was just wondering around and found this: http://www.ghost-armor.com/HTC/717.html
i was actually surprised to see our devices were supported since we dont have otterbox or seidio.
has anyone tried this?
There are a couple references to the product if you search. I wish there was a kiosk in Houston. I would try one if it was installed by someone who has done it dozens of times. I doubt I could get it right on my own and good installation is key to these things looking good.

I have owned Ghost Armor on my old TP2 and my current Dinc.
As far as the back cover goes, I really don't see how much it really protects. Just basically lets you keep the same feel of your phone and look (clear protector) and protects from scratches.
The screen protector, I feel is one of the best available. If you install it correctly you barely know it's there.
As a test I took my Touch Pro 2 and rubbed the screen all over the cement sidewalk, the screen was still the same as when I bought it used. Also makes scratches on your screen disappear. The ghost armor seems to go back to its normal form and it was left almost brand new with faint scratches. I recommend it to anyone.
And, they offer a life time guarantee no matter what. Just pay shipping/install fee.
How do you guys like your Amaze? I'm looking to buy one and switch to t-mobile, as I'm on PagePlus and can get more for the same price.
And as for the price of the "Stick Plastic" It is fairly expensive $20 for the screen, but you can replace it as much as you want. I normally got a new one every 2-3 months just for the heck of it. It doesn't leave your screen with anything sticky either.

Yeah if their put on right they're amazing, nearly invisible.
Worth the money all the way. When you go to sell the phone a lot of the time the main selling point is the screen. Back cases can always be replaced and cases cover up sides.
Nice to see a fellow houstonian on the board! My brother ordered it for his GS2 - very simply install! He did it himself.

I was talking about Ghost Armor. They have kiosks too.
A little late on this one, but I would like to say I am happy with my Ghost Armor.
I was in SF and they have a kiosk at the Serramonte Mall. So I happen to be in town with my new Amaze and I first went looking for Zagg because I had great experience with them. But the 2 locations I called didn't have anything available in stock for the Amaze.
So I was walking the mall and saw Ghost Armor. 15 bux for the front screen protector and 5 bux to install. I figure I would let the guy put it on. He put it on and baked the phone for a little bit and it came out looking fantastic. It feels great and I would recommend them. They also say the material is forever warrantied. And as long as you have most of it left, you can bring it to a kiosk and pay 5 bux and they will install a new piece of armor. And I am going to assume that is pending availability of the product.

do they actually "bake" it? i dont like the sound of that lol
They put it in a type of air circulation box, not really baking it, but speeding up the process of evaporating the water they used to apply the protector.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
it does seem to somewhat "bake" it though. the box circulates air but it also produces a certain amount of warmth, kinda get iffy whenever I have a replacement screen protector applied.
that said, it works far better than zagg (which ive used for all of my previous devices) the only downside is that it produces small visible dents in the screen protector after time, none that inhibit the safety of the device but do take away from the aesthetic of the screen.

Bake was probably the wrong word... They do put it in some sort of box and the phone does come out warm. They do turn the phone off before applying the screen protector. The warmth of the phone from the treatment would be similar how warm a phone gets after some extensive usage.

it's been some sad days for me. as you might have noticed around this forum I loved my ultra. but some days ago it cracked, of no obvious reason. had it in my pocket and when I took it out there was one single crack over the screen. and the display refused to register any kind of touch.
so what is my warning? I removed the anti shatter film, and I think I shouldn't have done that. so my message to everyone considering this, just don't. there's probably a very good reason it's there and why it's glued.
now I got myself a m8 and it's probably the best device out there. the day the successor to the ultra turns up I will go big again.
Hope to see you around, mate! I'll probably stay with the Ultra until there's a new and interesting "phablet" on the market. Doesn't look like the Ultra 2 is happening, and I'm not going to buy a Samsung, so I guess I'm stuck, lol.
I would never changed phone if it didn't break. but I guess this is a culprit with such a big device, that it can bend and crack that way. next time I'm with a big one I'm buying a hard case!
Yup, mine just came from a screen replacement last week now it's alive and kickin. Hehe.

Dang that sucks dude. I still have the ASF on mine and holy crap it's scratched to hell and back. I've sat on it and keep it in my pocket all the time without a case on but sometimes I take it out. I'm lucky when it comes to the cracking screen part, but I'm bad luck when it comes to waterproof. I got water in it somehow last night in the shower. Water is now under the dang screen but doing the rice bag helped a lot and got most of it out as of this morning. Funny thing is even though water is in the phone and I can hear it splashing around, the phone was still working!!! This thing is a freaking BEAST!!! Screen started to flicker so I turned it off and dropped that puppy in a bag of rice where it's at right now. Turned it on this morning and it's still working and no more screen flicker. I'm going to keep it in rice for the rest of the day.

thats exactly what happened to mine i miss my z ultra but hopefully i will get the updated z ultra if they make one. Mine did it without removing the anti shatterproof.
I Found Several Good Hard Cases!
I've had my baby since 10/01/13 and I absolutely love my BEAST! I'll post pix when I get home but you guys ought to think about grabbing the camera attachment hard case. It's great and there's no give on the device, at all. I always keep it in a case and I've kept the ASF along with front and back glass screen protectors.
The cases I've found were all Sony OEM except for the RoxFit too. If you look around you can find them. Sony has even contacted a case maker so to speak.
My baby BEAST is running strong (don't jinx me please) bit I'm still waiting for the XZU II (2) I'd it every comes out. I ain't NEVER going back to Samsung after being spoiled with Sony's great build quality.
Damn Straight.
Just finally rooted it back in May, I was waiting for KitKat 4.4.4. Now I'll wait for Android L. I can't go back to anything the size of a toy anymore that's definite. But hey that's just me.
And hey guys, grabbing a screen and doing it yourself wouldn't been a hell of a lot cheaper by the way. They're always on eBay plus they cine with pry tools and all. Just sayin'.
The very same happened to me! ..It cost me around $250 to replace the screen..
I keep my XZ in a book-style hard-cover case, and haven't removed the ASF. there are light scratches on it which I can't see in normal use. I do polish the screen a fair amount to remove grease and spots, and that does seem to help reduce scratches.
I was actually considering buying a second XZU because of all the heavy discounting, especially since there seems no sign of a Z2 Ultra or Z Ultra2 model.

Did you try and get it repaired under the warranty? Mine cracked while in my pocket. Doing absolutely nothing at all. I heard others with the same issue, and most, if not all of them got it fixed under warranty. I called mine in and sent it off to Sony. Just waiting on a call back from them on whether or not they will repair under warranty. Most of what I read is that even though Sony says they will contact you they don't. You ship it off and then a few weeks later it is shipped back repaired. Crossing my fingers.

Lol. I couldn't help it.
I got water in it again last week by accident. Was getting ready for work and brushing my teeth with it on the counter by the sink and I splashed water all over it by accident when I was washing my face. Wasn't much but I could see the moisture building up under it so I rice it all day.
Still kicking. However when I power it on I can see a very faint "light" spot under the screen where it isn't well lit. It's only about 5 mm wide but oh well. Doesn't affect the screen when the phone is fully on and running though.
This is the strongest phone I've ever had since my Samsung Infuse «----that phone got the **** beaten out of it!!!!

that sucks. if you do decide to hop back into a z ultra, try running it with dual tempered glass screen protectors. it adds 0.8mm to the overall thickness but adds rigidity, and at 13$ on ebay for each protector, it makes it easy to replace without any huge blows to your pocketbook. :good:
I was cutting the grass today and when I finished I noticed my screen had a hairline crack across it. Everything still works but the crack really bothers me. Since this is an accessory how would I get it repaired? Does LG offer that?

You can chat with a support rep on LG's website. You should be able to RMA it and get it fixed but I'm not sure how much it would cost.

Sorry to hear that. I saw a similar post in the Gear Live forum, Gr8Danes was cutting the grass and ended up with a cracked screen. I have worn mine on weekends when I cut the grass, but since these 2 posts will take it off. Good luck with LG customer service. The Gear Live owner ended up talking with Samsung and they wanted $160 for a screen replacement. Hope they take care of you since you are an earlier owner/adapter to their first AW watch.

I just cracked my screen from the bottom left to the top right as well, while cutting the grass as well. Did you get the screen fixed? If so, how much did it cost?
As this is three people with the exact same issue, please DON'T cut the grass with it on!!
What is with the common thread here being "Cutting the Grass"??

Finally I've a valid excuse
I never got mine fixed, sold it for $40 on swappa.

I sent mine in to LG for a price quote on a repair; they want $111 to fix it. Considering I paid $29 net ($79 Best Buy Black Friday - $50 Google Play credit) for it, I think I'll pass and just wait for the next fire sale.

I paid full price, but the crack doesn't impede the usage at all, so I just deal with it. The only precautions I take are not wearing it in the shower and try not to get the face wet.
Cutting grass hazardous to smart watches
I too noticed a crack in my LG G watch after cutting the grass. Is it the vibration? I don't think I banged it up against anything...
I'm never going to cut the grass ever with my watch on...
They need to add a warning symbol with someone cutting grass on the product box.
This is weird. I've dropped my watch countless times, Smacked it against steel tables, and I've only gotten slight dings in the side. Haven't cracked it yet.
I wear my watch when I cut my grass and it hasn't cracked.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
I don't know if this is very usefull but I bought a protective tempered glass for my watch.
So if I crack it I'll just replace it and not the real screen.
I found mine on a cheap chinese website for less than $10 so I think it worth it.
(only problem : the glass is dirty quickly than the original screen)
Getting my LG Watch R back today. Had to sent it in for a cracked screen repair from, you can guess it, Cutting the grass. Must either be from the vibration of the mower, or possibly the weed eater throwing rocks into it. The repair cost was $80.00 to replace the screen.
Moral of the story people, please take your watch off when doing any sort of yard work.
Mine cracked last night. I leaved it on my side table and this morning I found it with a crack (maybe somebody took it at night and went to cut the grass with it).
Does anybody know where to buy a replacement display? I found the instructions to change it, and it doesn't seem to be too hard.
Gas mower or electric?
Might as well ask here seriously, has anyone bicycled while wearing this watch? Seems to me the micro-vibrations one would get from a mower would be similar (and as damaging) when riding a bike (at least without front shocks).
A bit concerned about mixing the two, but it is probably inevitable at some point.
This is interesting.
Yeah,If your phone is out of warranty, the LG will not offer the service.
You can buy the original screen at Amazon,eBay or HCQS.
So I had a Nexus 6p 2 years ago and it was the first phone I bought with my own money. It was also my absolute favorite phone, but it got stolen from me unfortunately. So then I got my uncle's LG G6 but I had to give that back after a couple of months so I went and bought some cheap Xiaomi phone since that's all I could afford. And then of course due to my luck it cracks. So I go hunting for another phone, only having $60 I found a a working Nexus 6p for $50! It was cracked but the Lcd was still good so I figured I'd just buy the top glass and repair it. The glass cost me $8.99 so in total I spent $58.99. The phone arrived and I thought it's finally time to get my money's worth out of this. So I start to disassemble the phone so I could start the screen and digitizer separation process having practiced on 3 junk phones and watching probobaly over 10 videos on it the nights prior. As soon as I get halfway done separating the screen from the digitizer, BOOM the digitizer cracks. So now I'm left with an empty wallet, shards of glass in my skin and no phone. Just thought I'd share with you guys and make sure you stay extremely careful repairing any phone. Now on to finding a way to earn money underaged in a trashy neighborhood.
I can relate to this on a molecular level.
You are not alone my friend.
