Cracked the screen - LG G Watch

I was cutting the grass today and when I finished I noticed my screen had a hairline crack across it. Everything still works but the crack really bothers me. Since this is an accessory how would I get it repaired? Does LG offer that?

You can chat with a support rep on LG's website. You should be able to RMA it and get it fixed but I'm not sure how much it would cost.

Sorry to hear that. I saw a similar post in the Gear Live forum, Gr8Danes was cutting the grass and ended up with a cracked screen. I have worn mine on weekends when I cut the grass, but since these 2 posts will take it off. Good luck with LG customer service. The Gear Live owner ended up talking with Samsung and they wanted $160 for a screen replacement. Hope they take care of you since you are an earlier owner/adapter to their first AW watch.

Thanks. The sad part is I was getting ready to throw it on Swappa so I can get the moto 360...

Reviving old thread.
I just cracked my screen from the bottom left to the top right as well, while cutting the grass as well. Did you get the screen fixed? If so, how much did it cost?
As this is three people with the exact same issue, please DON'T cut the grass with it on!!

What is with the common thread here being "Cutting the Grass"??
I don't get it.....
Are you people using mowers?

Finally I've a valid excuse

I never got mine fixed, sold it for $40 on swappa.

I sent mine in to LG for a price quote on a repair; they want $111 to fix it. Considering I paid $29 net ($79 Best Buy Black Friday - $50 Google Play credit) for it, I think I'll pass and just wait for the next fire sale.

I paid full price, but the crack doesn't impede the usage at all, so I just deal with it. The only precautions I take are not wearing it in the shower and try not to get the face wet.

Cutting grass hazardous to smart watches
I too noticed a crack in my LG G watch after cutting the grass. Is it the vibration? I don't think I banged it up against anything...

I'm never going to cut the grass ever with my watch on...
They need to add a warning symbol with someone cutting grass on the product box.

This is weird. I've dropped my watch countless times, Smacked it against steel tables, and I've only gotten slight dings in the side. Haven't cracked it yet.

I wear my watch when I cut my grass and it hasn't cracked.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

I don't know if this is very usefull but I bought a protective tempered glass for my watch.
So if I crack it I'll just replace it and not the real screen.
I found mine on a cheap chinese website for less than $10 so I think it worth it.
(only problem : the glass is dirty quickly than the original screen)

Getting my LG Watch R back today. Had to sent it in for a cracked screen repair from, you can guess it, Cutting the grass. Must either be from the vibration of the mower, or possibly the weed eater throwing rocks into it. The repair cost was $80.00 to replace the screen.
Moral of the story people, please take your watch off when doing any sort of yard work.

Mine cracked last night. I leaved it on my side table and this morning I found it with a crack (maybe somebody took it at night and went to cut the grass with it).
Does anybody know where to buy a replacement display? I found the instructions to change it, and it doesn't seem to be too hard.

Gas mower or electric?
Might as well ask here seriously, has anyone bicycled while wearing this watch? Seems to me the micro-vibrations one would get from a mower would be similar (and as damaging) when riding a bike (at least without front shocks).
A bit concerned about mixing the two, but it is probably inevitable at some point.

This is interesting.

Yeah,If your phone is out of warranty, the LG will not offer the service.
You can buy the original screen at Amazon,eBay or HCQS.

Cracked Screen after 1-week

Had phone since the Sunday it was released...screen has developed a crack at the bottom, just above the capac. buttons going completely across the screen.
Everything still works fine, but is obnoxious to look at.
Heres the thing... (and I know people will doubt this) but I haven't dropped the phone at all. Not even set it down roughly. This morning, everything was normal...went to go to work and put it in my bag by itself (correction - only other thing in there was a book and a wool hat). Got to work, took my phone out and BLAM, crack stretching from one side to the other. No marks around the bumpers or anything. I'm completely nonplussed at what could have happened. My thinking is flex *could* have done this, but that seems like it'd need a hell of a lot of pressure to do.
Well, ATT won't cover it, samsung won't cover it and the quoted repair cost is $200. Deductible for ATT phone insurance is...you guessed it...$200 (or $250 can't remember).
Anyone have any luck with these flybynight screen repair shops? I don't think they'd have the parts in stock for the phone since it is new and kind of a fringe product.
I'm seriously pissed...hung around with my iphone 3g for 3 years waiting for a good phone to upgrade to..finally blow my upgrade and a week later blam.

I called Samsung on the phone and they told me it wouldn't be covered under warranty... I did explain to them that it hadn't been dropped or anything. Should I call and pester them again?

I would take it to a different AT&T location and see if they'll replace it. Sounds like you got a rubbish device. I can't imagine they would replace it, as long as it's obvious it hasn't been dropped.

Some photos of the damage/device, I have more of just about every angle. I cannot find *any* indication of external damage which makes sense, but still the screen is jacked.
I bet the book fid that. That happened to our recrptionist to her iphone. A book in the back pack. She is a college studemt.

I would imagine the book definitely did that. Don't let them know that though ;-)

A paperback book could do that? Thats actually very concerning to me as a consumer. I'm extremely cautious with my electronics (ask my wife, she will eyeroll ) and to have something like this occur without any strenuous contact being made with the phone is appalling.
First Samsung phone, and unfortunately will most likely be my last. It looks and operates flawlessly and was exactly what I wanted... but I can't for the life of me see spending that kind of money on something that can essentially break through such light use.

buy a replacement from ebay and fix it yourself. shouldnt be too difficult, I have replaced my iphones and my sensations screen and they pretty much were the same
I tried looking on ebay for a replacement, but perhaps I'm searching for the wrong thing...
can you share a link?
After calling just about every ATT store in town and explaining the problem, I found one willing to exchange it for a new one no questions asked.
I'm still worried about the durability of the phone since nothing major occurred that should cause this amount of damage. Hopefully I just had a defective screen or something and this one will last me a long, long time.
i carry my note in my pocket (I'm a big guy) it rides in the front pocket all day was case-less for the first week i mean i worked played and goofed off with it there can't even tell. i think u just got a bad glass display it is mass produced product and defects do happen.
I myself was very impressed with the build quality of the phone how sturdy it felt despite its lack of depth. So i'd just be aware and keep ur books away from it
should probably just start storing my books on the damn thing

Im guessing you just had a faulty screen. Gorilla glass can take some serious pressure, and is even pretty damn good at shock resistance. I've dropped my old captivate and infuse countless times without a case and never cracked a screen. Hell, last summer my captivate took a kick from a full grown horse when it was in my pocket, and the screen survived. The hoof hit the back of my captivate, bent the backplate and battery, but the screen was fine. It saved me from a huge bruise, that's for sure.
I think you will be fine with a new device, because it sounds like a faulty screen. Don't let one faulty Samsung ruin Samsung for you forever. They make great devices, and their screens are matched by none. Other manufacturers are just as likely do have a defective device, you just got really unlucky with your first note.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I have already dropped my note face down on a corner (it was in a speck case and had a clear screen protector on) and knock on wood it was fine. It is very possible that its just a faulty screen. I would pesster the heck out of at&t and samsung til i got a new phone. They will budge you just have to be persistant.

I am anal about my devices also, and the thought of just throwing it in a bag makes me cringe! Always front left pocket for me, no exceptions!

No offense, but if you stuffed your Note in a bag with a book or anything else, you're not really that cautious with your electronics. There's a reason I have never damaged any of my phones or tablets. It's because I don't do things like that.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I "stuffed" it in a bag. The bag in question was a messenger style bag with separate internal pockets, phone was in one, book in the other. Book was a paperback (you can actually see it in my photos) about 200 pages thick.
UPDATE:
Second phone screen cracked. Top of screen near the front camera. Had it less than 24 hours - took it back and they exchanged it again with no issues.
Got it at around 4pm, took it home, put it in case (SGP) and put it to charge, went to the gym and then came home and did some programming for a few hours before bed. Phone stayed on charger the whole time. Next morning I put (note: did not "stuff") the phone into my right front pocket of my jeans (normal jeans, not skinny or anything). It was the only thing in the pocket, had a wallet in my back right pocket and some disposable eye contacts in my left front pocket. Walked about 3 blocks to a lecture checked email on the phone - no crack. sat with it in the pocket (front right) for about an hour and a half, then got up and walked home. Got home took the phone out...crack! About an inch long from the very edge of the glass towards the middle of the phone.
I can't make this stuff up. Took it to the store and they replaced it for me again. Manager said something about maybe they got tussled around during shipment or packing.
Both cracked were white devices. The phone I have now is a black one.
I'm trying to think of reasons why this could have occurred twice. First time could possibly have been from being in the bag, but I wasn't throwing the bag around or anything like that. Second time? Who knows... if walking with a phone in your pocket causes it to break...
I am super thankful that I found a store willing to do the exchanges, and I do love this phone...but what the heck!

Broke my glass today, where to get replacement?

Well it happened; after several smart phones over the span of 4ish years, I finally broke a screen. Sat the phone down at work, and it slid onto the hard tile floor and shattered the screen pretty damn bad. Everything still works, it's just an eye sore and I'm sure eventually a piece of glass will find its way into my finger.
Anyway, for those that have undertaken this adventure (because I'm not paying $150 to wait 4-6 weeks for US Cellular to send it into a service station), where is the best place to get this replacement glass piece? I've seen several places online that sell it, but am not sure who to trust.
So where do all my fellow Mophoer's recommend?

I dropped mine for the first time today, and actually ran over it with an industrial grade John Deere tractor, but somehow my MoPho came out of this all with nothing but a small scratch in the screen. Just saw this thread and it reminded me that I need to have some glass bookmarked.

Do you think my G2 is cursed? or did i just have bad luck

Don't worry broke my black G2 screen too, bottom left corner, fell in bathroom. Lol phone actually said detected damaged screen and showed menu for alternate controls . Eventually repair was free because Gophermods which sucks (replaced screen 4 times over one month), didn't do it properly and got intermittent grey lines. Eventually got a white one with refund money. Ironically original now works fine after screen lifted off from housing relieving pressure on ribbon cable inside.
What happened in your case, how did you drop and get repaired?

my case is fine, i woke up because my phone when off at 9am i went to put it down and it slid off my nightstand and i picked it up not even thinking about it, then when i got up went to go use it and it would not unlock so i restarted thinking it froze or something then turn it back on a resized it was cracked when it did not respond, and it was hard to see the crack with screen protector on. organically i took it to CPR: cell phone repair cost me $200 call them back to day and asked what they could do for me, guy said it would be $200 so i screen F**K you and hung up i, im going to just change it my self. i was hesitant back in october because there we no guides on line but now there are.

Lol. I don't get how it broke with a case. Just unlucky I guess. I have a thin diztronic case on and its been safe so far. Also if you look around for a cell phone shop they'll repair it for around 65-100 dollars depending on if they have the piece or not. I work part time at one and they charge 65 for iPhone repairs because they have plenty off screens fir it but they charge 100 for phones they need to order a screen for.
If u have the tools it's easy to do yourself. Just watch a YouTube video and follow along step by step. It's actually what we do at the store with phones we haven't done before

I hear LG will do it for about $140 according to another xda member, when I called LG they refused to give me a quote unless I mailed them my phone. Looking back I should have gotten it repaired by LG. Gophermods was $239.xx after taxes used that refund plus $80 more for a new one White this time on eBay.

I'm sure that's how the Gopermods guy repaired mine. I warned him to be careful about the ribbon cable the third time he replaced my screen, it's very sensitive. He repaired it a fourth time again got grey lines/imprint of previous activities. He didn't glue the screen properly each time. It eventually peeled off the housing after he offered refund and since pressure disappeared it works fine as long as it's not completely in the housing. They really screwed it up big time. I knew more about repairing it than he did. I mean he was nice and took my advice but was just incompetent. The day I got my refund a lady with a "repaired" iPad screen came back a second time because it didn't respond in some corners.... shows you how bad the company is. They are learning/schooling on our stuff lol.

well i think in the future im just going to put a Verizon insurance coverage on my phone. look at it this way the insurance is $10 a mouth and with a two year contract im going to be spending $240, and could break the phone over and over and just get it replaced.
Yeah that's probably best.

Well, it's just probably bad luck. With these devices, you just gotta be careful and not drop them. More likely than not, they will break when dropped. Also, I can't help but notice the amount if fingerprints on the screen (and probably the back). I suggest you wipe them more often to prevent the accumulation of fingerprints (and oils).

That's why I got a white one second time, harder to see fingerprints and smudges.
judging by the smudges you probably shouldn be handling anything of value when busy with lube
Or better buy a casing that is easy to handle. Not easily drop when sweaty or oily. A casing that worth a price.

Scratched screen out of the box (T-Mobile)

Just opened my brand new S6 Edge from T-Mobile and the screen has about 6 small scratches and 1 decent scratch on the top left of the screen.
You can barely feel them with your finger but if you hold it on an angle you can seem them.
On the phone with T-Mobile to have them send me a replacement.
On a side not this phone is beautiful. The display is AMAZING!!

The 6 or so little scratches I found are very light but absolutely there.

For the record it was a S6 Edge in black 32GB
I just checked my black 128gb one and it has a perfect screen,

Why is it so hard to believe his phone arrived with a few scratches? Every company has a few defects slip through QC.
I'm not trying to light a match here because I am a new member, is it really xda's thing to asuume everything negative posted without pictures means there lying.
Maybe I'm old, (I am) but I always thought forums were about a community for help and support and a way for people with like minded interests to come together. If that's the case I imagine I should just stay a lurker taking advantage of the developers Roms and not offering any input or help to others.
Bit of a sad world we live In if this is how we now define a community.
Guess I just still live in a different time.
I believe. I've had the same issue with Samsung and Other companies in the past. Just one of those things that can happen during assembly. Good thing is that they will replace it because it's a manufacturer defect.
Anyway thanks for the heads up. Good to know to look for this when I go get mine on the 10th.

If you actually followed the conversation, you would see that the member threw insults at me for no apparent reason. So I guess if you believe that is allowed and permitted, then by all means....
My replacement is scratched up as well.. wtf
Same problem here. About half a dozen small hairline scratches in mine (128GB black). Not a huge deal, but I'm paying almost a grand for this phone, so I want it to be perfect.
Got a replacement coming, so hopefully it's alright. If not, I may just exchange it for the normal S6. Might be a manufacturing problem with the curved screen.
There is another thread in the general section with several people reporting the same problem. Not sure if samsung or tmobile is to blame but it is clearly a problem.
My phone actually had scratches on the back and light bleed by the bottom left corner. Im on the phone with tmobile but they are telling me the system wont recognize my phone's imei, possibly due to the phone not being officially released yet. They want me to order a new phone and return this one, and I will be credited. Wtf how are you guys getting phones overnighted? I reported the damage one the 2nd full day and according to the rep there is a three day grace period for damaged or defective goods.

I wouldnt accept that answer I called T-Mobile and they ordered a new one and shipped it overnight for free. They tried to charge me for shipping and I said no way.

Too late. I was just so frustrated that I followed their instructions. I ordered one with next day shipping and was told my original order would be completely refunded, including shipping costs. So it will be a wash in the end, but I probably won't get the new phone until tomorrow and I am not sending this one back until I get the other one.
I will say that my phone came with a small scratch by the multitasking button but at this point I don't care. I was mad at first but I hate calling to complain.
My 32GB black one came yesterday (4/2) with overnight shipping and it had a couple of scratches on the screen and top bezel. Not deep enough to affect viewing on the display but noticeable when the screen is off and you see the phone in certain angles under lights.
Like the previous poster mentioned, the scratches are not all in one direction or in a pattern. Mine happen to go diagonally on different parts of the phone. I am guessing it is because the plastic front and back glass protector it ships in is not fully attached to the phone. It's like a plastic sleeve with a open top and bottom so the phone has a little room to slide around against the plastic as the box is thrown around delivery trucks. Mine came in a shipping envelope instead of a box so even the box with the phone in it had room to move around as it went through UPS.
These initial scratches are not a deal breaker for me for now though. The more concerning part is that it appears there has been no improvement in terms of anti-scratching/Mohs scale with Gorilla Glass 4. So my concern is how the phone will hold up over time without a screen protector if it was scratched so easily before I even got it.

Glass Back Cracked!

Nooooo!!!!
I have only had my phone for 2 weeks and I was sitting outside of Starbucks with my phone on my lap, and this yellow jacket bee kept flying around me. So I stood up to get away from it, while forgetting my phone was on my lap. CRASH! My V30 without a case falls off my lap about 20 inches down onto the cement.
It caused a small spider web crack in the corner of the back glass. One of then cracks extends to the camera lens area. On thr bright side the screen is fine and the camera lens is fine with no cracks. Plus its only mostly the corner thats cracked on the back. But still, it really really sucks since I just got this phone.
I know some of you are thinking I was stupid for not having a case. Maybe so, but keep in mind I pretty much never had cases on my 6P or my S7 Edge. I only dropped my 6P once real bad on a hard surface (fell out of pants with a smaller pocket while sitting) which only left a scuff on the edge with the display fine, and never once dropped my S7 on a hard surface in over a year with it. So I have always been super careful with my phones. Never dropping my phone in years that was a result of my clumsiness or carless.
I guess its just a matter of time though no matter how careful you are handling your phone. Its bound to fall somehow when its not your fault. Like sliding off a slippery surface, falling out of a small pocket, or similar. Anyways I called a local phone repair shop and the good news is the back glass is only $70-$75.
I don't think I am going to get it done just yet since the display is fine, camera lens is fine, and its only the corner of the back. But I probably will eventually before I resell the phone in 1-2 years. Anyways kind of disappointed a military certified phone cracked for such short fall. This is why I prefer metal backed phones so much more. Anyways hopefully this info of how easy it cracks and the cost to replace the back out there being pretty cheap helps some others out there.
*Puts case back on my V30*
Yeah, I watched a couple of videos on what happens to GG 4 & 5 with drop tests and decided mine would stay in a case. Added bonus of keeping finger prints off of the actual phone back and just on a plastic case.
I have several cases I've bought to put on my LG V30 when I actually buy the phone. You can buy very good cases for even a couple of dollars on ebay. I started the LG V30 cases thread, because most people don't know that.
You can even buy clear cases if you still want to show off the phone.

Just putting that out there for people who still need a case. At those prices, order 2 or 3!

Yeah I already have a case, I just didn't have it on because I don't really like having one. I got it on now though. Ita a slim fitting case by Lumion. I never heard of this case company before but I really like it. I'm probably going to give the Spigen Crystal case a try too.

I'm very sorry for your accident. Ugh.
At least you know it can be repaired easily.
If the glass is still smooth, you can always put a skin over it.
This is one concern causing me pause in my purchase. Why there can't be a nice carbon fiber replacement back for this phone, I don't know. Motorola had a good idea going with the "design your own phone" during the Droid Turbo / Turbo 2 days, they just gave up on it too early.

That's the beauty of carbon fiber composites. The resin it's molded in is waterproof, gluing is about the only way to attach it to anything, it can be built up as thick as needed to create a reliable sealing edge or stiffness to the back. And it's radio transparent, so no issue with wireless charging. It can be textured, to make it more grippy.
The ccf aesthetic isn't for everyone, I get that, but it would be great as an option, and would be completely workable.
That is a bummer that it cracked. I am super impressed by the strength of this device though, my embarrassing story about it. Bought a new TV for my living room, decided I needed to take my old TV down to the basement and thought I could wrangle the 60" TV by myself, took two steps down and slipped, fell super hard all the way down the stairs with my phone in my back pocket. Huge bruises on my back, butt, arm and legs, the phone I was positive was a goner. Took it out of the case and to my amazement not a scratch and the glass looks perfect, however there is a size-able dent on one side of the phone and it is pushing the screen out. Everything works perfect and like I said, it did not crack at all, I am not a small guy, between me and the TV it took a 300 lb hit on the edge of a step and then several more hits down the stairs.
Of course I went to T-Mobile and they laughed and said "We can't take a bent phone back" luckily I am still in the 14 days grace period and will be adding insurance so I can get a replacement. It works, but is a little annoying to use this way. And to end the story on a high note, I did save the TV, did not let go of it!

A quick and healthy recovery!
My wife had dropped her v30 TWICE already in a week... Both times it luckily hit a corner and no glass cracked or scratched. Just a scuff on the metal of each bottom corner. So damn lucky with that so far... her case finally showed up the day after the second drop.

Whyyyy couldn't have mine done that?!
Actually I think the sides of this phone are super reinforced. Way more than more glass phones. I think mine just fell at the absolute worst angle that hit it just right. Just thankfully it was not the display!

Thanks! I also found the glass back is on Ebay for only about $18 and comes with the little tool to replace it. So I might just do that myself. I watched a video of how to take the back off.
I only have 2 worries if I do it myself.
1.) Making sure the new glass back seals on tight enough still be at least mostly water proof and
2.) Removing the finger print sensor from the old back to the new back. The video I watched doesnt show how to remove the finger print sensor. But once I find a video on someone removing and reattaching the finger print sensor, then I will pull the trigger for the $18 glass back.
So much for military certified durability  :crying:
Also you'll lose the ip68 rating by replacing that yourself most lowly just a heads up. Watch the video of Jerry rig everything. When he made a clear v30. Really good on how to open phone
Happened to one of the phones on my account. Fell about 3 feet on a wood floor and the back has a hairline crack. I'll skin it, put it in a case and be done with it.

That's quite a story! That should be in a V30 durability ad. Opening shot of the big dent and bulged screen with the phone speaking in "android voice" saying, "yeah, I took quite a beating, but you should see the other guy!" Then a fade in shot of you looking all sheepish and bruised from head to toe with a final fade out slow-mo reenactment of the fateful tussle.
