[Q] Increasing signal strength? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I know with my old streak, there were some tricks that would help in low signal areas for me. Flashing radios, and build.prop tweaks definitely helped... is there anything like that for the note? I flashed the UCLD3 radio last night, seems to make it so I can at least get my email without using the rebel wifi we have set up in our office until the IT gurus take it down.

Try pulling your sum card where the bad area is...then wait for a min or two then place back in...a tech told me it helps! '

Take anything a tech tells you to do with a large grain of salt....

Back in 2003 or 2004 I overheard a tech tell somebody in a store that there was a recent bluetooth outage and that's why he had to pair their headset again.
Back on topic: any build.prop tweaks that anybody has used? I'll probably poke around it this weekend... I can't seem to find motivation to sit down with the phone while my car has a check engine light.

agree.
I think the term "REBOOT" is used WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much.

This thread is making me lol.

Signal strength mainly depends on service in the area, unless you move...you cant really do much to bump up the signal strength.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

141.6°F - "A New Record!" | What's the hottest battery temp you've seen?

So this week I've discovered a hidden feature on my Rezound: it doubles as a portable pocket burner. Not sure if that is too be expected (having read through the other battery threads, it seems that 120°F is typical eye-bulge territory), but if it happens again i'll probably start the replacement phone process.
This happened off charger, just playing a high quality graphics game for 20 minutes.
Just seems a bit high to me, but any further insight is welcome. (as a comparison i've read on the Galaxy Nexus forums that a few folks are getting ancy at around the 120°F mark as well).
Maybe the Rezound is just has a poor design in reference to heat dissipation? Maybe I have a defect? I can live with it, so long as I know its not that big of a deal. I'd like to avoid waking up next to a phone shaped melt hole on my night stand.
Did you try frying any bacon or eggs on the screen?
Phone would triple as a portable skillet! Lol

Udderly ridiculous.
That's 60 °c. That is way to hot for a phone. Hottest I have seen on my phone is 54°c 129°f

Hiyoooooo!
I haven't checked the hottest, but when I got up this morning it showed 38F and the screen kept fogging up.
I've never had a phone go past about 40°C. I haven't really pushed the rezound that hard yet, so I will try that later today.

If I remember correctly, I was using the new Onlive app for the temp in my OP (but it gets north of 125°F commonly on normal games). If you (or anyone else reading this) have that app, would you mind running it for few minutes & reporting back? It wouldn't surprise me if it played a role in tipping the temp over the edge (Onlive is a magical service // magic = power).

^^ Nice. This is what we all need to know. Can you do something fancy / intensive w/ your replacement phone for a few minutes and see if you can get it into bacon mode again? (gaming or streaming w/ 4G enabled, etc).
If we can confirm that "hot phone" is somehow a hardware issue, its warranty time.

Download mode clicking

Anyone ever go into download mode and notice that their phone is making a 'clicking' noise. Really the only way to describe it. If the phone isn't in download mode, no clicking when connected to the USB cable.
Yeah, I've heard it before as well. I just imagine it's tiny little Samsung elves laboring away inside the phone, making $#!t happen.

I get it too, but usually after installing a rom while rebooting.
Thats just the loudspeaker given short spurts of electricity. Or sparks inside your phone that makes the battery explode, not sure.
Its the LTE radio trying to connect to the towers so your phone can boot up to 10X faster than 3G boot times.
It's the BEATS hardware giving you a little somtin-somtin while you wait.
Its the awesomeness of this phone banging against the glass trying to get free

I don't normally post just to post...but had to say I LOL'ed a couple times. Wonder which one of these is true?
Maybe ALL of them! YES!
Sat here and tried to come up with my own add on...but I can't match those.

signal fluctuation issue *fixed*

so, over the past 2 weeks, the data on my phone would randomly drop out completely, then kick back in a few seconds later. it gradually got worse & decided to call verizon. beforehand, i tried the battery pull & then tried cleaning the antenna contacts(didn't work). i ended going through 5 service calls that did not go anywhere. they're supposed to call me back tomorrow & mentioned a phone exchange if the issue persists.
(btw i've been using the 2750 extended battery)
anyway, i decided to remove the extended battery & try going back to the normal for the hell of it. and that fixed the issue.... so now i just need to replace the extended battery door. i feel dumb for not trying it sooner, but also wonder why verizon never mentioned trying it.
I don't have an extender door and was having this issue. I reset the phone pulled the battery took my sim out and ad card. Put all back together and so far so good. Not sure what fixed it though.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
I have the extended battery and while I don't have signal issues I might try soldering the contacts on the door a little to raise em up.
Also, do you use a case? That might help hold it together tighter.

If your near an lte area your phone is consistently trying to search for a signal, and when its searching it's sending information to make sure the phone is supposed to be activated on the network. That's the downfall of Long Term Evolution.

WiFi reception drops when touching the phone with 2 hands

Hi guys, I just noticed that I can manage to reduce up to 2 bars from my wifi reception, just by placing my 2 hands on the both sides of the phone, like this (|) . Does this happen to you, too? Should I send it for repairs? Greets
It's normal. Hands blocking signal and both GSM&WiFi can drop even 2 bars.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
And is it normal to have around -60 dBm, when youre 4-5 meters form the router, but in the same room?
P.S. I ask all these question, because I had to send in my phone for repairs, cause of cracks in the silver bezel, and i dont know if they didnt mess up the antenna.
I think it's normal. I'm getting -70 dBm and router is just 2m away , through the wall tho.

Well, I will send it back if i know it's really something wrong with the antenna. Thats why I'm asking the people, if its normal or not.

Any masking of the antenna will have an effect on reception, and that is pretty much what they will say at a guess......it's not like you walk around using your phone clasped in both hands like that any way, so I really don't get your issue?

Youre completely right. I just wanted to ask, if I have a problem with the antenna or everything is because of the hands So its normal to have -60 or more dBm, when I'm 4-5 meters from a router?

Haha funny guy - not

I feel like my signal sucks

I just got S4 2 days ago I sitll have 12 days to exchange it for a new one not refurb.
I had iphone 5 before gave it to my mom and I live in NYC today when I was coming back from Queens to Brooklyn I would be stuck with 1 bar in a lot of places where before I had 2-3
call quality and everything is perfect however I can see that I don't get the same service as I did before.
I don't know if it helps much I did few sreenshots. On these 2 I don't 1 bar but with bar I think it's somewhere around -111 something very close to that I don't remember exact numbers.
How can I test better? someone help me please , like maybe some sort of app to test it out in various places?

The signal strength you are seeing is related to the LTE tower you are currently connected to. Use an app called "signal check lite", download it from the app store, it will show you your actual CDMA signal strength.
Advanced signal status is another good one to check as well. But your are right, -111 is about 1 bar. -120 is about as bad as it can get before dropping to nothing. -60ish is perfect but you will rarely see that on a Samsung device unless you actually climb the tower. Best I usually see on my s4, is mid 90s which is awful in my book compared to the mid 80s I get in the same location on my htc rezound. So you aren't alone out here. If there is another phone you like, I would get it. Wish I could still dump mine. I miss constant AND FAAAAST 4g on my Rez. :banghead:
