[Q] Determine Android Version? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

So, I rooted this thing using Indirect's method a few months ago. And this may be a simple question, but how do I know which version of Android I'm running?

You'll be running 2.3.4, that's what version B&N's broken OS is running and I doubt they'll update any time soon.

If it is just rooted it is the same version B&N shipped with. You should be able to look that up on their web. Both CM7 & CM9 are running gingerbread kernals, however CM9 sort of thinks it is ICS.

[Discussion]Flash 10.2 for Nook Color Honeycomb

So flash for xoom was allowed by an update to the os. So wouldnt the key to getting nc hc flash to work wold be to figure out what changed in the xoom to allow flash and applyit our own systems? Just an idea....

2 huge differences for now, unfortunately:
- deeper-blue's port is based on the HC SDK preview, so it's SDK version 9 instead of 11, without the finalized APIs; and
- the update to the Xoom was from 3.0 to 3.0.1, both of which are SDK version 11.
Once we get a port based on AOSP (or the final SDK), we will be on version 11.
My theory of the release date would be 2 to 4 months after release date, so that would be like April to June? Irk I just counted months after release date. I know all nook color luvers are dying for some honeycomb

CM7:Status?

What is latest status? Is this still being actively developed? I haven't seen any movement from Alpha stage...or am I missing something?
I don't want to risk running a buggy alpha, otherwise.
thanks.
I believe I read that Alpha 3 will be released before the ICS builds start showing up. Someone said Alpha 3 will be out in 2 weeks, but I have no idea of that's true. I say go ahead and run the Alpha 2.1 build. It's not too bad and you can always go back to WebOS. Otherwise you'll be waiting 2 months for the ICS builds to start appearing.

I've read that the code written for GB will be usable/needed for ICS so my guess is they will want to get cm7 to the point where they can merge all that work into the code base so they are not starting the ICS port from scratch.
I just installed Cm7.1 on my TP and in "about phone" it says its 7.1 RC1. Hmmm...I thought it wasnt even beta yet. In fact the file I flashed is named a21.

2 Weeks.
lets just say that this is an extremely busy time of the year: Thanksgiving + major papers/exams + ICS release + push for CM7.2.
Let them work out their schedules first imo.

That has nothing to do with the TouchPad. CyanogenMod 7 is currently at version 7.1 across a large number of supported devices. That just means that the TouchPad port is based on the CM7 7.1 RC1 code base, not that there's any updated TP-specific version yet.

Tablet apps not compatible with touchpad??

Why is it thy apps made specifically for tablets are incompatible with touchpad. Is this something that will be solved in the future releases of cm7 or ics?

Google forked Android when they introduced tablets, with 2.3 Gingerbread being designed for phones and 3.0 Honeycomb being only for tablets. As such, while Gingerbread and earlier apps could run on honeycomb, the reverse wasnt true. Honeycomb also didn't have its source released until very recently.
Because of that, CM7 is based on Gingerbread, so we dont get tablet apps. ICS 4.0 brings the fork back to one common open source code base, so once we either see a port of vanilla ICS or CM9, we'll have tablet app compatibility.
On the other hand, you can use them just fine on webos so stick with that if you want a tablet experience.
Hmmmmmm......thanks for the explanation. Im excited for ics port to touchpad. Android is making every penny spent on touchpad worth while.

[Q] Roms on 8GB?

Hey guys,
I think I know the answer to this, but CM7 is not ready for the 8GB tablet correct? I just rooted it last night and would love to get CM on there but I don't want to screw anything up.
It should be supported on the next release of cm7. Stay tuned.

ICS or JB for Galaxy Player 4.2??

Can someone port an ICS/JB ROM onto the Galaxy Player 4.2 (YP-GI1)? I really want to update my software, the 4.0/5.0 both have ICS on it and it would be great if my device could have it too, Thanks!
Development is still small. You are going to have to wait because I believe no one hasn't build a custom rom yet.

ICS porting worked chronologically:
The SGP 5.0 was the first to have working ICS ports and it took months before the Bluetooth bug was fixed.
Several months after 5.0 ports stabilized, some developers ported it to the SGP 4.0.
I suspect it worked this way, because there are a larger number of SGP 5.0 owners, hence leading to more output.
And, if my suspicions are correct, then it is going to be a very long while before the SGP 4.2/3.6 see any ports respectively, as I suspect that the number of people who own those devices is smaller yet.
It is feasible, but that would mean that a lot of our devs here who have done successful ports to the 4.0/5.0 would need their own SGP 4.2/3.6 to test their builds and ports on. And, I just don't see them spending money on an already under-supported device.
But, who knows? Crazier things have happened here on the SGP forums.
Is anyone working on this device? I have seen someone on the CyanogenMod Forums say that they have ICS on it but it's very unstable. Of course I can't believe that... But people got a root working using Odin3. If there is any developer that has this device and seeing this post, please.. reply! Thanks
Check this out

Being rooted is a state of existence. You can add it or take it away at your disposal. Being rooted just means that you have the Super User binaries installed on your device. You un-root by uninstalling those binaries. Flashing a ROM with or without root simply means that the ROM you flashed has or doesn't have those binaries.
So, if you flash a rooted ROM over your currently rooted ROM, that's OK. That simply means you have older or newer binaries on your device. (And, yes. You can update Super User binaries.)
there is a rooted gingerbread stock rom, but I believe the dev that made it doesn't even have a 4.2 and had to rely on others to test it, even the 4.0 has a very small number of devs on it, and half the ones we've had in the past have moved on to newer devices. I doubt there will be any ICS/JB goodness for the 4.2 simply because there are no devs that actually own one, atleast as far as users on here go, maybe some guy somewhere might be working on it but they sure aren't here.
Yeah I used that exact ROM anyway to get the rooted gingerbread ROM but thanks anyway

Does anybody know when developers might actually try a ROM for this device?
