Just a dumb question
I don't think so... although I think this was an issue when they were reverse engineering wimax to work on the OGVO
The reason I ask is because I use my phone for internet in my apt. I switched from Clean Rom to Viper and now notice consistent lag on xbox live games where as before it was rare to see lag
So you're "that guy" sucking up all of Sprint's bandwidth... I'm surprised at any point you could play on XBL without plenty of lag.

a lot of bootleg network 'tweaks' done in build.prop and from scripting can definitely have a negative effect on network performance. Half of these tweaks were designed for either GSM phones, old phones like the G1, or computers.

The speeds are great, on my old rom i didn't get any lag.
What am I supposed to do? I moved apt's and didn't set up internet because i had the free 4g tethering....am i wrong?

Mehh... I'm not gonna start up that debate, just do as you please. You could always try a different ROM to see how that effects your speeds.
No you shouldn't be. If your a gamer.. just pay for a real isp. You were just lucky there wasn't lag before.

Gotta agree with this one. If you're a gamer, get some real internet. It's not that expensive. And it's massive free tethering bandwidth like that that's causing Sprint to crack down on ****. Don't ruin it for the rest of us, man!

While it does cause them to crack on tethering what about downloading torrents on your phone with 4g ttorrent will let u do that. So its not just the few "rooted" people its also those people as well. Just in case u didn't know there are torrent progs for android.

Lol ok pretty sure the free tether people is a lot smaller number maybe I'm wrong tho. Reason I say this I see people always posting they use WiFi the vast majority of the time.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
since the debate is already in full effect...whether you are tethering (without paying for the hotspots service) or hitting up torrents, you are against your Sprint Terms of Service. By doing this, you are part of the reason that Sprint's network is so gotdamn congested and that they are slowly implementing data caps. I'm not gonna call you a crook but seriously, stop being so selfish and get real internet ...
This is hilarious....Is rooting your phone against sprints TOS? I'm sure it is...why would i root my phone to get the free wifi tether and not use it?
If you want me to stop, feel free to send me a check every month for comcast internet. I do accept paypal
You may find it funny now, but when Sprint cracks down and takes away unlimited smartphone data, you'll be one of the ones crying "Oh noes! Now I has to pay for interwebz! Why they take away my free unlimited! I was only circumventing their rules and not paying for it like I was supposed to!"
Besides, although you may not notice the lag, I'm sure everyone else on Live hates you for it.

When TeamWin reversed engineered 4G, it was for AOSP roms. Sense based roms never had issues with 4G (unless they were ports from other phones that didn't use WiMax).
The same applies to roms for the 3D. Shooter based roms shouldn't have any adverse effects where 4G is concerned.

'tis implied youngling... seeing as how Sense ROMs would never have had issues with Wimax working. I should've specified "on AOSP ROMs".

I just PM'ed him. I'll let you know what he says.
I was under the impression he was helping out some peeps over in the SGSII forums but was still going to be involved with the Photon in the future.
That is the last I read on it. Not sure if it is true.
He appears to have gone to the new Razr.

Good phone, but he could have told us!
He realized what we all realized... Photon was the bastard child Moto had in the basement. It's not a "Droid" and was the Atrix's evil twin. It had lots of promise but Moto has left it to be raised by wolves. No mention of ICS plans... Photon is dead... And due to the way they handle their phones (and especially their bootloaders) Moto is dead to me.
This is the only way they are going to learn. Back to HTC or maybe Sammy. I would trade in for the SGSII but all the hype about the screen is lost on me. It has a blue haze all around and it is annoying. But maybe still worth it for now on ebay.
Good luck to him and he will be missed for all his input. Personally, I do not get it with everyone jumping ship. I have had and/or played with every smartphone known to man (old job, mobile support was downstairs back when I started flashing Windows phones), I will stick by this Photon for years to come.
Business wise, this thing is all that and then some. No, not a bunch of flashing ROM's, no ICS. I just have SPB 3D Shell and @ 80 Apps including my banks, stocks, news, documents to go, games out the butt, music, ZumoCast to get to my desktop at home, Pandora, ..................
There are a ton of great phones on the market, but I still feel the Photon, neck and neck, can stand next to or surprass any of them.

Sorry AJC, but reading some of these post are in fact depressing. These phone are less than 6 months old and I have seen every excuse in the book to jump ship? SG2? When you look at the hardcore facts, Photon beats it to be technical.
And lets be honest, with the exception of a few here, who really uses these phones to over 60 or 70% of what they are capable of doing?

For 16 years old, he has been busy with ics, bulletproof, was busy with quicksense, beastmod, bliss 3.5 sense, and stock 3.5 sense. Along with all these roms for us he was/is also creating all in one tools, kernel flasher utility along with helping other devs and helping us the community with all these questions. When I was in school we didn't even have computer classes. We had a computer lab that we had an opportunity to use once a week for about a half an hour. Ah the days of Oregon Trail on floppy.
Heck in some public schools the students are given mac books instead of actual books.

You know what... I'm actually fine with that as long as it doesn't get out of hand.
A lot of mods don't like it. I even made a thread specifically for that in the General section called Off Topic Posts. I was actually expecting it to be like 20 pages long by now. Odd that it isn't. But I think that I'm fairly lenient as long as the OP is fine with the content of the posts being placed within their threads. But the moment I see someone posting duplicates, post pumping, flaming or violating forum rules... that's when I start getting serious. We should know how to enjoy XDA but we also need to be mature about it at the same time. Sometimes we forget how to do that though.

Good evening everyone! Long time Lurker, first time poster here. First and foremost, I need to say thanks to all the developers and contributors that make this site everything that it is. Thank you!!!!
Now lets get some Ubuntu running! The files and instructions are found in an app on the market, "Ubuntu installer". The links provided in the app are all still good, validated tonight. I was running cleanrom 1.2 the first time I tried, and I can vouch that cleanrom is capable of booting Ubuntu via terminal. This part was surprisingly easy.
Next part is making this useful! Mhl on cleanrom 1.2 worked great. So here I am throwing Ubuntu to a 50" flatscreen with no convenient user interface. I tried installing gmote server on the virtual Ubuntu. Fail. Linux newb. I try andromouse (gmote alternative). The program is an executable .jar file, this I can handle. Andromouse launches, the android device I was using as the remote doesn't detect the server or tunnel in with the provided ip. Fail.
Here I load up joelz cm9 alpha. I lose mhl, but want to see how Ubuntu plays with 4.0. Ubuntu runs noticably faster! Also, for whatever reason, andromouse server was detected by my other android device. For a brief moment I basked in the glory of remote controlling a virtual desktop environment running on my phone. Then I wanted mhl support, flashed back to an old backup of cleanrom, and now nothing works. Unzipping the Ubuntu image again right now for a fresh start.
Potential uses? 1. Having a computer anywhere there is an HDMI in & second android device for mouse/keyboard. 2. Run a virtual Ubuntu server on your android to act as a host server for multiplayer gaming (is this possible?) 3. ????
I love Ubuntu! This would be awesome!

and i have to say the battery quality is amazing
after conditioning the battery with the usual ways and benchmarking it, i found i could run it at on demand for govenor or performance all day with a max speed of 1.5 ghz without a problem with about 50% left after 3 PM, granted i get up at 6 AM and then my phone goes to roaming for about 6-7 hours after that so battery drain is pretty high. Now if i do the above with the stock battery im looking at my phone being dead by 3PM
the expanded batteries are worth it even if ubuntu for android isnt out yet, they allow you to really make your phone a performance device
I couldn't find if they announced when they are releasing this.... Does any one know?
