[Q] Can't install SystemApp APK (Galaxy Ace - Miracle v4 ROM) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed the CyanogenMod 7.2 RC1 by vo-1 MIRACLE Edition V4 ROM
but I'm unable to install any additional system apps (e.g. sms/mms, camera).
The thread says, I have to use CWM. But when using the CWM App to install any APK, after confirming, I only get, that the APK wasn't installed.
I also used a few apk installers and tried to install with a root filebrowser. Doesn't work either.
The allowing-non-market-apps option is enabled.
What do I have to do? Clearing any caches with CWM?
Found it!
TUTORIAL 5: Recover System Apps than have been removed from V3
-- Place your desired app or apps on your sd-card
-- Use Root Explorer and copy them
-- Go to system\app and press the Mount R/W button on right top
-- Paste the app or apps you have selected
-- Long press what have you just pasted and set permissions to rw-r--r-- for each app
-- Reboot phone

I would make it simple for u..
1) Simply flash the ROM as said in the thread from where u downloaded
2) Download those additional zip files he attached (system apps) at the bottom of his post
3) Download & install ES file explorer on ur phone (in its settings customize it to allow it to make changes to root directory and enable up-to-root directory etc. and grant it superuser access when it asks)
4) Now extract whatever system app u require from that zip file (say mms.apk) on ur SD card
5) Now go to /system/app and paste this file over there
I recommended u for ES file explorer so that u wont have to change any permission at all..just copy & paste
NOTE: First move the original file u will be replacing in /system/app to some other place to avoid any future problem

[Q] Clarification on apk files please

Is there a difference between apk files downloaded as an installer file and the apk files i find in my system/app folder?
The reason I ask is this:
I have both wired and wireless tether on "ROM a" and not wired tether on "ROM b". I want to copy the apk for wired tether out of my system/app folder in "a" onto my sd card so that I can install it on "b". Hopefully I could then flash "ROM b"(that doesn't already have the app) and navigate to the sd card with root explorer and click the apk, and have it install the app.
Should work right?
Or are there different kinds of apk files, ones that contain an installer and ones that just act as an application?
Thanks!
I believe that you could store the apk on the SD card, wipe and flash the new Rom, and then yes, use root explorer (be sure to remember and set correct permissions, have root explorer in r/w mode, and place the file back in system/apps) and then reboot. SHOULD work, but as always I'd suggest doing a NAND backup first, in case this doesn't work. If it doesn't, try using adb to push the file to system/apps.

[Q] LGs' Widgets and LG Keyboard on custom ROM

Hello to all...!!!
Today I flashed my first custom ROM (void) on my LG P500 and as a noob I have some questions...
1) Where can I find some LG programms (memo and calendar) and the other LG widgets? I mostly interested in widgets "Weather","Calendar","Analog Clock" and "News and weather"
2) Is it possible to have the LG Keyboard on SMS app on this custom ROM which has only the Gingerbread keyboard?
3) When I had the stock ROM I had made a backup with "Titanium Backup" all my apps and I have it saved in my PC.Can restore in custom ROM only the apps which I want?
Thanks in advance....
For 1 and 2 download this: http://sinap.se/oo/void-sapps.zip and apply in recovery.
For 3 the answer is yes, you can restore which app you want.
Thanks you...!
One more question,I don't want to flash back every deleted system app but some of them. How can I do this?
Of course I don't want appadvisor,Car Home and some other crupps...
extract just the app that you want an put the in them data/app folder you need root file manager or from adb
ΟΚ,I'll try it and I will be back....
Thank you!
With the "File Manager" of void ROM,I can't copy-paste the apps into system/app .
What can I do for this?

Yes, you can.
Anyway, if you extract the files from void-sapps.zip you will see 2 folders. One of the is "system", inside of it, another called "app" there are the ".apk's" that you need corresponding to widgets and programs.
The "News and weather" widget is called "GenieWidget".
You can extract the ones you like to the root of your SD and then, from the File Manager in the phone, install them one by one.
before i've said that you had to have root file manager to copy and paste in system/app
or as Noejn says : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887281
No, you have to re-sign it. Use a program like this one.
Tutorial: How to flash only some sapps
1. Grab the sapps/gapps package
2. Extract it
3. Go to the extracted folder "/system/app/" and delete the applications you don't want to flash
4. Use the above program (zipsigner) to create a CROM.zip, put the extracted files there so you have 2 folders on the root of the zip: META-INF and SYSTEM. Then sign it and it should create a CROM-s.zip.
5. Rename the CROM-s.zip to MySapps.zip, put it in sdcard and flash.

Right, that make sense (to me) if I want to install most of them and leave out just one or two. What about if I only want just -one- widget from the void-sapps.zip?
Isn't better to uncompress void-sapps.zip and take that one out and put it on the SD card, then install it from there?
yes is right what you say but sometimes (for some lg's app) this method don't work

(second part of Noejn questons/answer)
Also is not possible to install directly the Browser and Calendar.
I almost have found what I wanted from sapps zip,but I search for the stock internet browser.Which one of these is that?
I appreciate a lot your help!

[TUT]Downgrading market in ICSunday ROM

Hello guys, after much of my research on getting old market back on ICSunday ROM by jusada, I finally figured out how to do so.
So let's start.
1. Download Vending.apk (Attached) onto your phone and save it to your SDCard.
2. Get/Open Root Explorer and navigate to "/sdcard" copy "Vending.apk" from there.
3. Mount R/W in "/system/app/" and paste "Vending.apk" in there.
4. In "/system/app/" folder there would be a file called "8007005.apk" rename it to "8007005.apk.abc" (I don't prefer deleting system files, so I just rename them so as to get a backup in case anything goes wrong).
5. Rename your "Vending.apk" (the one you just copied) to "8007005.apk".
6. Change permissions of your "8007005.apk" to "rw-r--r--" and Change owner to Owner: 0-root and Group: 0-root.
7. Rename "MarketUpdater.apk" in "/system/app" to "MarketUpdater.apk.abc".
8. Navigate to "/data/data/" and delete folders called "com.android.vending" and "com.android.vending.update".
9. Reboot your mobile.
10. Finally if you don't see your market downgraded just head over to Root Explorer and navigate to "/system/app/", tap "8007005.apk", when the popup shows up tap "Install" and let it install like a normal apk file.
Voila you have successfully downgraded your market!
Post your queries here if you are facing any problems or need help with something.
On Cyanogenmod, i uninstalled the Updates from Market under Settings/Apps and deleted MarketUpdater.apk.
There is a better way for those roms fixed on the new market. It's automated: search oldmarket on xda it's a free root app.
how to stop market updating itself? i revert to the old one then it update it self once again.

Use titanium backup or any other app that can freeze apps, to freeze market-updater.apk

ICS ROM already comes with updated 3.3.1, so if I uninstalled updates, the market still remained the same.

Grab yourself a copy of Root Explorer (Root needed), head over to "/system/app/", mount R/W and rename file called "MarketUpdater.apk" to "MarketUpdater.apk.abc", finally uninstall updates of market and it would stop upgrading itself.

if you have root explorer [or any other] then you just can remove all read write permission of marketupdater.apk and uninstall current updates

paste the the facebook.apk in system/app/here and change the permission to rw-r-r
Make sure you are ROOTED.
For convenience I recommend install an app named ROOT EXPLORER.
*After installing, Download the Latest Facebook.apk extension file.
*Go to ROOT directory > then SYSTEM > then APP
*Paste your Facebook.apk file there.
*Long press on that Facebook.apk file and choose PERMISSIONS
*And Check as shown in figure.
Done

You are just modifying the current ROM, Not making the ROM.
If you over right with other ROM while flashing you will loose all the modified data.(like making a Facebook as an System App)
After completion I suggest take a backup of your device.
Edit: If you are getting error, then Move that Facebook file to your Memory Card. After that uninstall Facebook, make sure that FACEBOOK FILE IS NOT ANYWHERE IN YOUR DEVICE EXCEPT YOUR MEMORY CARD. If you find there exist any then Delete that.
Now you are clean, Move that FACEBOOK file from MEMORY CARD to SYSTEM>APP and move there.
After file gets moved, just click on it and choose INSTALL.
Done

I am going to sleep
So I provide you the link for the whole process.

Viper4Android (SOFF WORKAROUND)

I have successfully created my own bypass to get viper4android to work. Always create a full backup before attempting =)
1. Download viper4android APK
2. Download Root Explorer from the playstore
3. Install Both Apps
4. Launch Root Explorer
5. In root explorer go to /system/lib/soundfx and copy the folder to /data/ (make a soundfx folder)
6. Also copy /system/etc/audio_effects.conf to the /data/soundfx/ folder
7. Using root explorers menu you can create a shortcut (symbolic link) make a shortcut of the /data/soundfx/ folder and a shortcut of the /data/soundfx/audio_effects.conf
8. Boot into TWRP
9.Mount the system partition
10. Rename /system/lib/soundfx to /system/lib/soundfx2
11. Copy soundfx shortcut create earlier to /system/lib/ it will look like a "file" to TWRP
12.Rename the /system/etc/audio_effects.conf to /system/etc/audio_effects.conf1
13. Copy the audio_effects shortcut into /system/etc/ (be sure its name matches the old exactly)
15. Reboot
16. Launch Viper and install driver
I haven't dealt with LPA yet (hasn't had an issue) nor have I done any other modifications at this time which are avail on the viper4android thread.
I was just thinking about symbolic links to get around this S-OFF/ON issue and it appears they work and technically as a workaround we could symbolically link everything in system to another location and access it all. This could easily be put into ROM builds now at least as well!
Build.Prop may be useful to move out via sym link as well
I'll try this in a bit. Thanks
